  • The Sound Couple is out on a corporate gig without Stacy again!
    This gig was a relaxed and wonderful change of pace for us to focus on mixing styles of music that we don't receive many opportunities to do.
    The SC loves these midweek, early nights, and nice budget gigs! We go the extra mile, which includes assisting bands with their instruments on/off stage.
    Sit back as we take a pause to allow you to see more in depth how the Sound Couple works with new bands and plenty of action with Bart inside the van instead of Stacy!
    The Sound Couple primarily use PreSonus gear featuring:
    PreSonus UC Surface
    PreSonus CDL12
    PreSonus CDL18s
    PreSonus 32R
    PreSonus SW5E
    PreSonus NSB Stageboxes
    PreSonus AVB-D16
    Please see our "About" for a more comprehensive list of gear we use.

      @@thesoundcouple As a drummer myself, even if you are the only band setting up at a venue, it is still best practice to pre-setup the drums off stage, so as to not clutter the entire stage with cases, and then setup of cymbals last at the kit. This is especially the case if the sound engineer is still working through issues and still running cable, etc. And the same when loading off, take all the drums off stage as quickly as possible, and then break it down and put in cases.

    4:17 HAHAHAH I'm not alone!!!!!!!!!!
    I got a gig last year that was weekly on Friday for approximately 3 months. This year they decided to do every other week.
    Last year it never happened but there is a siren on the roof of this the tallest and only four-story building in a small town, a full on air raid siren and the fire department uses it as a fire siren. This year it's happened twice on a Friday.
    The local B&Bs have to warn their guests, thankfully I've managed to just barely get lucky enough to remember this year to warn the bands breaking my streak of luck I think.
    It's kind of weird because it's on the building that we're next to it sounds like it's coming from behind the area due to the reflections when it's in fact above and right next to the area.

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  6 місяців тому +1

      That's a great question that I will answer for you...the use of FX is something you need to find your own voice on as there is no really right or wrong...but perhaps some guidelines that we use. Reverb: drums/horns/vocals. Delay: Vocals. For both FX turn it up to where it's noticeable and then back it off (that's our preference). We prefer a short delay at about 150ms with minimal feedback for delays. All of this depends on the style of music and room acoustics. We will use a tap delay on vocals to for certain songs when appropriate. What style of FX? Whatever sounds good to you but there are certain definitions of what a type of effect is generally used for what...all topics that are really covered with an endless stream of opinions on the Internet. The point is for you to sit down with a mic and mixer and explore!

      Sure! We once were wired into 3 phase power and did not realize it. We had amplifiers then and it took two of them out...thankfully it was blown fuses, but the amps were out of service for that event. More recently, a sound buddy of mine was provided an extension cord that the venue wired 220v by accident. Took out his RCF sub...Our CDL cabs would have been fine since the power supplies are universal and can handle 220V...still doesn't make it right! In one of our gig logs, we were at an outdoor show and there was no ground! Didn't ruin any gear, but it was certainly a safety issue and we got rained on....what disaster did we potentially avoid? ua-cam.com/video/ro9rZaSBdRI/v-deo.htmlsi=D9C38L9Teo1P1PYX

      For this style of music this is absolutely enough. Some solid overhead mics will catch so much detail and dynamic playing... the dynamics are so important for this.
      I've recently had the opportunity to mix some instrumental jazz music, the stage plot I received asked for 2 overheads only. No kick or snare.
      I brought along two SM81s and it was absolutely enough. 2 well placed overheads can go a long way.

      @@davidbrock6263 for rock and pop I'd absolutely get the snare with a mic too. If it's a quick throw and go gig I might just do kick snare. But would rather close mic every shell. In smaller venues vocal mics will pick up all of the cymbal you could ever need.
      For quick 15 minute changeover multi band festivals I've done kick/snare/overheads with great success.
      But if I have time, I want a mic on every shell. 2 OHs, and a high hat mic.

Generally not safe and can cause trips or slips etc. Sturdy footwear please. • @thesoundcouple

      Yeah...I think that's just how he rolls. Part of the challenge was the fact that the shortest distance was through that fence. In addition, we needed to stay staggered which lead to me doing most of the pack in the van. I am not as good at it as Stacy and hand carrying slows down too. As I was watching, I wondered if carting everything up and going around would have been quicker for both of us to be at the van....but then Jed would have been waiting for me to call things out to pack. Stacy and I definitely have a system, and thanks for noticing how things change when we aren't doing this together and our process is hindered. Excuse me, can I use a PRESONUS NSB Stage Box for a studio live 16r and what exactly is it for? Sorry for the question, I'm new to this.

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  3 місяці тому

      Yes you can, but I believe the 16r is limited to 16 channels total, so you would need to stick to an NSB 8x8 or 16X8. They allow you to distribute your channel inputs beyond just the mixer.

    When you are on the MAIN (FOH View) on the iPad and making a track Solo (at 31:20, making OverheadR SOLO), does it make only Overhead R to be heard on the FOH? Or do you still hear everything else, I am a bit confused?!!

      I was a little off camera, but I was sol'ing so I could listen in my PSM 300 in-ears. The solo did not impact what you heard through FOH.

    Hey Bart, at 29:53 Sarah (the vocalist) is giving you a signal to lower something. It seems like you are doing something on your iPad but it didnt reflect on the iPad screen of the video. What did you do, lowered the volume on Sarah's mix? Thanks.

    • @thesoundcouple
      @thesoundcouple  5 місяців тому

      We will likely be using our CDL12's more because that's what we have more of. If we were starting again, we would consider whether 4 CDL 10P's would do the job....which they would for the majority of gigs we do. However, we still some bigger shows or outdoor where the CDL12's are needed. So the CDL10's would scale us at our limits where the CDL12's leaves us some space....which makes sense, they are a bigger cabinet. Aaah, to answer your question on this video...the CDL10's would have worked just fine here.

      Not sure what your goal here with this comment with no basis. Do you need to see our receipts? PreSonus sent us the CDL 10p’s/Sub18’s to review…we fully disclosed that in our videos. Other than that, it’s all us pal. Nobody owns us or tells us what gear to use. We have no contract besides an NDA with PreSonus which is standard business They were nothing but helpful and asked for nothing from us but to use the gear if we had a use for it, which we actually do! Seems like a win/win. The rest of the gear we own with a lot of sweat and hard work. Your comment is extremely offensive to us as our channel is about as real as it gets- we would appreciate if you and don’t watch us or comment. Utter BS!

Unfortunately, that can be considered "boring" to some, but there is so much to be learned and we don't have the opportunities to see others work in this capacity...whether it's us or anyone else.
