Dad had a '74. 400ci small block, auto and two wheel drive. Slapped on a "heavy half" kit. Hauled everything from kids to feed. Doubled as jungle gym and play fort. We kept it until the body fell off the frame, and still got trade in value just for the scrap.
Agreed, then the suburban was the people mover. I remember when my parents bought one new in '77, they were hard to find back then, was a common step from a station wagon.
Dad had a 78 K5 which was the last year with the full removable top with a lift, large tires, lockers, and KC roof lights. We had a summer house in the Catskills on a old logging road up a mountain pass. Not paved, rutted and tons of snow and mud in weather. Remember being a young kid in the early 80's and my dad just bouncing up the pass, Steely Dan and Genesis always in the tape deck :) We never got stuck or felt in trouble. A fantastic capable truck. Best part was we lived in NYC, so after a trip my dad would need to street park this giant rig still full of mud in a sea of cars. He did not was it right away, as it was a mark of the journey he said.
March 14th 2024, and I just bought a 74 Suburban K20 4x4! However, there was one thing about the truck I have never seen on a 67 through 95 Chevy truck before. I have an all working, factory dealer installed winch right under the front bumper. The winch is a Hinkley sidewinder and is in perfect condition!
In case anyone is interested there was a flaw in the frame of these chevy trucks on the drivers side where the steering box mounted. The frame would crack and the steering would wobble on many models if you did any repeated heavy offroading. It would happen over time if you jumped the truck through the air where the front wheels would land hard (as depicted in the beginning of the video with the K5 Blazer bouncing off the ground) !!!!
I drive a c 20... Still going... toughest truck I have ever owned...Ran better than my new Toyota Tacoma... Tows...twice than it can... It gets 10 no matter what... Never buy a Toyota... My Tacoma got 7 miles to the gallon towing.... My old Chevy got 10... And it pulled better up the hills .. never struggled....They knew how to build trucks...
It's too bad those Chevy square bodies rusted so badly. They were good looking trucks. My uncle bought a 1974 C20 brand new. Within about 8 years it had considerable rust.
Yes these squares and the 67 to 72 best trucks ever made ive owned a couple 4x4s and acouple twowheel drives and i loved them each one i drove daily and did everything in theze trucks and still have an82 scottsdale in my driveway and still a nicce little bitch im just changing thr trans to TH 400 instead of the 700r4 and drive shaft .3/4 ton camper special.
I'm going to Blazer was considered an actual full size truck and man truck on top of that not today's Blazer that's considered a crossover single mom suv
i had a 77 and 79. they looked as gay as what was in the video but they got the job done well enough. i have two trailblazers to this day, the old mid size body on frame units and i love those sons of bitches, each one has over 350k miles
these are not video tape but actual movie film. the dealerships would get a set of these each year when the new models were released. they are in super8 format with optical sound. they came inside a continuous loop cartridge made by technicolor and only could be played on special machines. in order to post them I have to remove them from the cartridges and put them on film reels, then have them scanned too digital. the films can't be played on a normal super8 projector due to most only have magnetic sound. then the scans require a lot of work on color correction since they have lost about 90% and are basically red and white. there are always plenty of these up for sale on eBay but most people don't want to spend the time or money to restore them. search Technicolor dealership cartridge
@@theemulsionalchemist5688 that’s amazing!! I subbed to your channel. Love this content! Thank you for putting in the work to upload these, they are really cool to watch!
My 2023 Chevy Colorado Trail Boss has 9 and a half inches ground clearance, 4 cylinder turbo plus 310 hp and calibrated to 430#s of torque! I have a dial to put it in 4x4!
And 48 years from now, there won't be a single video on it or anyone who cares, as it will have been in the junkyard in 2038 due to unobtainable Chinese parts. Meanwhile, there are still 1975 vehicles on the road today.
Back when gm could make a truck that was actually reliable and wasn't broke down they had a little rusting problem but when you turned the key you were driving today chevy builds crap I had a 2014 that in 20000 miles the transmission shit the bed totally and completely shameful

400s were excellent
1975 was the first year for the HEI too replacing the distributor with points and condenser
You are spot on. I think Chrysler introduced electronic ignition in 1972 or 1973 if my memory serves me correctly. Ford I think in 1975 as well.
@@claylyons6447 Chrysler was mid 1972

@@theemulsionalchemist5688 Yes I do. It has a new transmission and holley carb and only has 90,000 miles! I paid $500 for it last year.
One day I will get my 79 K5 back together. It’s got full time hubs too.

Same here. Grandfather had a 74 C10 and it was toast by 82
I would hate to have been the one who got that K-5 in the beginning splashing through the saltwater.
The only reason I got into extended cab pickup trucks was no one was building true full-size Personal luxury coupes no more
GMC Denali?
Cadillac?
I dont mind getting out to lock the hubs gives me a chance to take a pee
Nice videos, good Job 👍
thanks, many more to come
Bonitas ,pero a partir de ese año desmejoró la suspensión trasera al volver a poner ballestas
