  • In this video I compare the difference between using a 600Hz roofing filter, a 300Hz roofing filter, and DSP in combination with a roofing filter. Some of this can be accomplished with other radios but in this case, I am using my Yaesu FTdx5000MP.

I started ham radio at 15 years old - I'm now almost 51. My father and I were deep into ham radio but when he passed 20 years ago I lost all interested and divested all my gear. After 20 years of pretty much radio silence I've gotten the bug back - a bit of going back to a happy place in my life. I've been pouring over your videos and love your balanced approach of practicality and technical info. Again, I'm starting from scratch -- I think I've settled on the FTDX10 and this video was to help me determine if I should install the 300Hz roofing filter they offer. In the old days.. lol... any crystal filter available was a good thing - my Yeasu FT101E was loaded up and it was a monster. I did progress to the Kenwood 570G and then the Icom 756PRO so I'm somewhat DSP knowledgeable. Anyhow, your videos have been great to see the state of play today and what's out there. Thanks for all your sharing of knowledge and equipment - I know this takes a ton of time and I appreciate it. Maybe someday we will work each other. Best 73s, N9YI

Many of the things I show are possible with other radios. I’m glad you found the information helpful.
