Years ago, there was a Q-Code joke something like: "QNB 47/12" = 'My rig has 47 knobs and I know what 12 of them do.' It probably wasn't QNB, but you get the joke.

I though my radio was broken i heard signals barely could understand the transitions but all it was was the filter was set to 500hz

Many contacts or QSOs are "drive-by 5&9" and one wouldn't have much time to be fiddling with filters for 10 minutes. That said, the ideal use case is when you find yourself on some reef somewhere trying to work a massive pile-up, and other use cases exist of course. I just find that most of the time there's not enough time to optimize the reception.

I am currently experiencing a problem tuning in to stations in SSB with my FT-857. The only way to get the readable signal is to "shift IF" which comes pretty annoying. Does that situation mean something is wrong with my radio? de EU1MEV
