Hi Holly. I greatly appreciated this video. I, too, have a passion for growing pumpkins. I live on Long Island, NY and even though I'm on the other side of the globe your methods of growing pumpkins are similar to mine. An attestation to the durability and adaptability of this great garden gift: the pumpkin! Thanks.
Thanks Bob! I do love a pumpkin 🎃🌱🙌

Thank you so much, I am going to grow mine vertically in my new garden, following Monty Don and being in Denmark, which will give a short growing season. I have taken notes from this video of yours and thank you for the details in it.
Yum. Love growing pumpkins 😊😊😊
Excellent video!
Thank you 🌱
Hi Holly, finally some rain here in Perth. Off to Bunnings to get some Rainbow Chard, thanks for your video on this beautiful vegetable 😀😀🌈
It was a nice change to wake up to in the morning! Yay fantastic choice! 🌈
Try a local nursery rather than Bummings! Locals have a extras at great prices, support our local suppliers and the staff are knowledgeable and helpful, even recommending other nurseries if they can't help you out!!👍 My mum and bro went there for blueberry bushes and the lady carried on about how they aren't available for sale due to a biohazard and she didn't know when there'd be more and no one else would have them so don't even bother trying... At the local nurseries, there was no issue at all!
Yummy recipe for pumpkin leaves!
Thank you so much!
Thank you for such an in depth guide! I'm excited to be trying several new varieties this year and I'm also going to try growing a few of the smaller ones (Uchiki Kuri and Sweet Lightning) up a trellis. Any opinions or advice about doing that? I know they can send roots into the ground along the vine so I worried they may not do as well on a trellis.
Queensland blue is the number1 tastiest pumpkin in my opinion..great idea2 put a stick in where you plant the pumpkin plant! I just fertilised mine.my neighbours are not going to be happy!😀It was home made fish solution..great pollinating tips.Thankyou.🧡Apple cider vinegar is also a great tip!
Great video presentation I will be giving them a go later in the year
Thanks Tony! What variety do you think you will grow? 🎃
@@SustainableHolly hi Holly Butternut pumkin most likely

Thanks very informative I had a good crop of self seeded grey pumpkins this year from a retired chook run and looked for a video on harvest and storage but am inspired to do allot next season my idea being to grow 1/4 acre next year for our local foodbank/community sharing stall that this year I supplied a couple of hundred Kg of Tomatoes and Courgettes to. Cheers from NZ.
Hi Holly, love your video.
Thanks John! 🌿
Been wondering why my female pumpkin flower have been failing to produce mature pumpkins or rot. Now I know through your informative video. Thank you sister.
Thank you for sharing a huge amount of helpful info. That soup looks amazing. My favorite squash is kabocha. It's so sweet rich and dense and it's like having the best sweet potato I've ever roasted. It's not dry but solid and the condensed flavor was amazing.ive yet to get it grown at the proper time to harvest a ripe one but look at the market for them. Sadly no one really seems to know about them and so it's hard to know for sure the steps to see it through. I was told they need another k I ND of squash like buttercup to have fruit but I grew three plants and they all had fruit but needed a couple more weeks before frost. The plants died before they were ready.
My mom gave me a kabocha. Lovely squash. Mine tasted like cucumber and the skin tasted like pistachio. All with a sweet potumpkin flavor.
Was told it tasted like a melon mixed with a squash and pecan. But mom hadn't tried her own yet XD
Those pumpkin leaves are genius
💚 move over Kale chips haha
Thanks
Thanks so much Robert! 🌱
Thank you
The best video I have found on growing pumpkins 🎃! Thank you very much for creating this video. I am attempting to grow some for the very first time in my tiny garden. Question??? Once the pumpkins begin to form, can the vines be trimmed to keep the energy focused on 1 or 2 pumpkins 🎃 or is best to let it grow wild? Love any input you may have.
Love the recipe ideas 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
I have been gardening for years and Im growing pumpkins that volunteered out of my compost this year for the first time. They are so much fun, so thirsty and hungry and fast growing 😋
Hi my name is imawni and am from Jamaica i like your pumpkin video i plant pumpkin in my garden all so thanks for sharing your video
Hi ya always so informative thanks 🙏🙏for sharing cheers from a very wet Qld take care.
Thanks Barry! 🌿
Complete video on pumpkins and squashes thank you! Soup is my favorite dish and I also add half a teaspoon of cumin powder along with curry powder. Tastes amazing. Didn’t know we can eat young leaves as well. Brilliant. Any tips on eating seeds without the hassle of tiresome peeling ?
I mainly just use the squash seeds for eating. Yes sometimes I add cumin too. Or make a Thai version with lemongrass!
grow pumpkins that have hulless seeds, I got my seeds called "emerald naked seedless pumpkin" from The Experimental Farm Nestwaork, Pepitas are hulless pumpkin seeds
Fast forward to after 8 mins. To get steps on how to grow them. Thank you for sharing & for the tips♡ Ive watched like 10 different videos lol. Going to give it a try :)Subscribing & going to check out your other videos. Im going to try to start my 1st garden ever this year..so going to definitely need some help
Yummmmm dishes
Thank you for the video; very helpful. When you water and feed the pumpkin, it is only at the base of the plant, or do you need to do it along the anchor roots as well? (without wetting leaves)
I got a bit lost when you started talking about when to plant... Then I remembered that you're in a different hemisphere. LoL I'm still so glad I watched this though... Lots of useful info for pumpkin junkies! :)
Thank you 💚
I grew squash last year, loved it. I collected pumpkins after Halloween and froze a lot for crustless pies, can always use more info...thx
I die a little inside seeing how much food gets wasted with Halloween pumpkins 🎃 freezing is a good option!
Thank you, very informative. I have neighbourhood rats too, it’s very discouraging. When you cover the fruits or pumpkin, does it affect the ripening process?
I listen and watch many and all over. As Iisten sounds like you may be in Australia. Your area sounds a lot like mine which is Florida in 🇺🇸 I thank you for such an informative channel.
I am from New Zealand 🥝 but live in Australia 🦘 I think we do have similar climate to Florida. I think we are 10a ish 🤷♀️
G'day Holly👋..& thanks for this excellent video👍👍
I'm a nearing 60yo Sandgroper and haven't 'gardened' much at all.
Over the last couple of years I've been educating myself about making my own soils ... composting, worms, teas etc.
In that time I've mainly grown from seed.. tomatoes, strawberries, as they're pretty easy to get going..too easy sometimes lol.
But I just threw some pumpkin seeds into a pot, that was half-full of soil and it actually germinated. It was the wrong time of year as it was summer but it's still growing down the back there, but no fruit on it as I guess it was too late.
But thanks to your video, I know when, how and every other thing on how to grow them.
Also you being from Perth helps a lot, on planting, harvesting etc 😄👍
Really good video!
Subbed 👍
✌️
Edit: now to go through the rest of your videos and learn more. Cheers.
Yay welcome!!! It’s an incredible journey to be on! If you can join us Live tomorrow arvo I have some more WA gardeners coming on my live show 😁🌱
@@SustainableHolly oh brilliant👍👍 I need all the knowledge I can get lol
It will be another beautiful day for it ☀️
Thanks👍
Great information! Do you have a list of all the varieties you’ve grown somewhere? I’ve heard that moschatas are more resistant to vine borers, so I’m trying to collect all the kinds I can. And that tip about roasting skins with seeds…🤯…I’ll be trying that!
I am so very happy to see your video on pumpkins, I have a few very healthy ones that have come up in the compost area, so am looking forward to see how they produce , wish I could get those seeds that you showed on the video, but I am not able to obtain them here in the philippines, have a good day,
Thank you! Yay love free plants from the compost! They always do so well!
Awesome video! I use my better tasting pumpkins to make pumpkin pies. The larger ones I carve into jack o laterns
I’m yet to try pumpkin pie! It’s on the list
Loving your videos. Where do you buy your straw mulch from in Perth? If you don't mind me asking.
A little all over the place but sometimes Green life soils 🌱
This was the best pumpkin video I've seen and so many great tips.
Have you tried spraying garlic onto your pumpkin to deter rats?, would a glass cover or clear pot work better to protect the pumpkin and allow natural light?
Hi your videos are so good to watch😃 just wanted to know can we use butternut squash leaves for cooking
Yes! Young squash leaves are great for cooking 🍃
Wish I could find kent pumpkin seeds in the U.S. it's a beauty!!
Thanks for the pumpkin tips mine always die off did'nt know why
I love pumpkin soup! I'm new to your channel. Do you have any native plants?
Yay welcome to my channel! I do have a few 🌸🌱
Hi Holly I would love to join your membership is that still possible?
Enjoyed your video, but recently i lost one of my pumpkin as it starts to grow in a pumpkin. I am wondering if it was eaten by a slug or rat as they are running riots in my garden when the cats are not around. Thanks in advance for your advice.
Hey so do you only consume pumpkins? Or do you eat other foods❤❤❤. Genuinely curious thanks so much
Why the side of the leaves are brown? And can you explain a schedule to give niutritions. For example 4th day after germination give a fertilizer which has high nitrigion. Like that can you give a schedule?
Your "Autumn" looks like my "Summer"
Ny the end of this video I will be asleep 😴 if I am still watching- you must love listening to yourself speak. Pull have said it in 10 minutes or less.

I was just seeing some female flowers and I was wondering if that's what they would look like bc the male flowers looked different.
And I was correct 😁
And somet of the flower were already fertilized so now I know what to do when the other female flower blooms.
Yay 🙌🙌 I kinda feel like knowing how to hand pollinate is good insurance to make sure you are getting some pumpkins 🎃
Hi, which variety has chewy flesh or are they all soft flesh?
Would really like to know what zone your garden is in.
I think 10a ish 🤔
Where can I get some seeds for the heirloom pumpkins?
I'm selling all my organic seeds
Strange. My vines this year were only producing female flowers. No male flowers. Dozens of unpollinated fruits dying off on the vines.
Oh wow I wonder if conditions can effect that 🤔 be interested to find out. Having multiple vines can help to try get more but I have also had big flushes of the same a few times.
This happened to me too last year! Although it was my zucchini’s. 2 plants and both only gave me one each to harvest and after that they only produced female flowers.
Mine did the exact opposite! I don't think I was watering enough this time though, I was gone quite often
Up north pumpkins went crazy. Too big really as will take a few weeks to get through each now our bully has passed, as he loved pumpkin which got us growing them. We aim for 30 a year to store, normally lose a few to rot when storing so we allow for that. Courgettes give us half a bucket every few days for past 6 weeks and still pumping, from 4 plants and I grow them in a tomato wire cone support so off the ground . Haven’t watered hoping to slow them down as have used all of google recipes now haha …still 4 or so a day. Got a 2 week holiday in Aussie coming up. Can only imagine what we are going to come home too.
Great cooking info at the end. Delish
How do I fight beetles?
cool they grow well in the humid tropics but some verities are better than others because of fruit flies or some kind of bugs
