Ben, please use your connections with CRKT to try and get them to do some BHQ exclusives with premium materials. Things like the pilar, minimalist, or squid would fly off the shelves!!!
Ha! I wish it were that simple. Here's my take: CRKT plays a certain game a certain way, and they do it quite well. Indeed, the squabbling in the comments on this video are a vocal minority of Knife Knuts that don't see the sales data. In fact, the Pilar is one of our very best sellers of 2017, despite its 8CR13Mov steel. The Minimalist and Squid have perpetually flown off the shelves for years now. CRKT plays the budget game, and while I wish they would offer more premium models, that's not their game. I'm OK with that. My personal opinion is that the industry needs quality entry-level offerings to bring more folks into the market. CRKT is many folks' entry into knives and ALL the brands need that to survive. My 2 cents. -Ben
Blade HQ true but what I'm seeing with their M16 is great with the better steel. They play the budget game but they also play the military utility game. And in my opinion I should not have been sharpening my CRKT knives on deployments as much as I was. Especially for their price in military models and what they are meant to be used for.
Blade HQ valid points about crkt and why they do what they do, makes total sense to me. However as someone who has moved well past intro knives it would be cool if they started an upper end line, even if under a different name, that could take some of these models to the next level. It's not like they don't have the resources or the know how to do so and they would keep those customers they got into the knife market once they become knife nerds/addicts.
Jed Berg sadly the one time where they offered the hootenanny in s30v it turned out to be carbon steel. I would love that knife in s30v. Don't know why they don't do sprint runs. I think they would sell well (unfortunately their exclusives don't tend to be upgrades).
Notice how not once there is no mention on blade materials on any of these knives. It's because they are cheap Chinese 8cr13mov is my guess. CRKT just will not use quality blade materials!
They did mention that their using Sandvik steel on the 'new' m16's. Whether it's 12C27 (likely) or 14C28 (which Used to be proprietary steel between Kershaw and Sandvik, until China copied it as they do everything else). Either way, made in China, so who knows how well the heat treatment is - which is critical.
Ben, please tell them to use at least decent heat treated 8cr13mov and Aus8 or better steel. CRKT's history of using poorly treated, lower quality steel has ruined many a good design and hurt the Brand. (like the M16 series in Aus6 with a rc of cheap tin). Then as others have pointed out they need to come out with a line with 154CM and S30V etc steel. IKBS on everything does not make up for crap steel...
We need to get the guys from SOG and CRKT in a room and them put a beat down on them for some of the designs and poor blade steel. Two companies that could be so much better with just a little more effort and attention to detail.
Crkt if you are reading this you should do your designs in better steel for a little more money so people can check out the designs with the cheep steel and if they like it then they can buy the better steel version of it
I notice you don’t say anything about the steel. What’s up with that. Just go sell them at Walmart or in the display case at the gas station!!! Y’all think we’re all stupid!!!
I live in Oregon and there is CRKT, Gerber and Benchmade close by. Guess which one I’m going to do a factory tour next weekend? Bet the tour doesn’t include the cheap Chinese steel area.
CRKT I will buy your stuff if you make higher end versions and charge a premium! WE knife, Kizer and Reate are always willing to make knives for other companies with stellar fit and finish and materials.
Rodrigo Teresa you guys can trust Reate, WE et al, but the facts are their designs are crude but with better steels. However, it's the heat treatment that matters, regardless of steel. For the Chinese, counterfeiters are put on a pedestal like the US does for designers. Therein lies the difference!
Red rum1 Well CRKT is manufacturing in China anyways, and it's well established that the lower-end manufacturers are more likely to be counterfeiters or involved with counterfeiters. And no matter what you do amazing AUS 8 won't hold up to your average S35VN, and steel will never have the density of titanium.
I was thinking the same thing. You nailed it. The first thing I look for when buying is blade quality and any tempering info I can find on that particular seller.
So if spyderco put a patent on the circular thumb hole, other companies (like benchmade for instance with their griptillian 550hg), would have to approach them first?
A lot of the comments are regarding blade steel...I did hear mention of Sandvik steel at one point but I'm not sure if it was on one knife or all of them?
Well actually if you have a good enough reason it is legal, and I'm hoping to use one of them for hunting, so I probably won't meet anyone to challenge me, also it's just a good addition to my collection.
Please update the steel on the other M16 Knives to Sandvik as well. I'd love to get my M16-01KZ (with AutoLAWKS) in a better steel. I love how the knife feel in hand but would love something less "eh" when it comes to steel.
Not trying to be a butt but, there are still a bunch of people that do not like deep carry clips. It looked like all of those knives, except the m16s had a deep carry clip. I don't like them on any knife but, if you put it on a tactical knife you've totally defeated the purpose. How hard would it be to make both? At least give us the choice. This goes for all knife companies not just CRKT. Thanks
Active duty here. I love the m16 models so much but the m21-14 SFG has always been with me on my travels. Any chance we will ever see the m21-14 SFG upgraded?! I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the original by any means, in fact I'm quite attached to mine! The crossguard can be used like a wave opener, and applying filmstrip technology to it would make it a perfect choice for service members
I was going through my grandparents stuff today and I found a traditional pocket knife. The blade isn’t rusty but it is almost stained. I don’t know much about knives but can you tell me a easy way to get this stain out without any proper equipment.
I was gifted a smaller crkt knife a few years ago. The blade centering was a little off, but it was a good folder for 20$. I left it in my brother-in-law car and was like fuck it whatever, keep it hommie.
There was nothing on this list that wowed me. I think the minimalist line is by far the best bang for the buck that CRKT has done. I was hoping to see a smaller fixed blade or two in this lineup. Appreciate the video though, gentlemen, thank you.
See a lot of comments about blade steel but none mentioning the poor fit and finish of many CRKT knives ruining what would be a really compelling knife. Plus a ton of their knives are tip down only which ruin it completely. Just little, silly, or easy things that CRKT clearly isn't listening to their customers about. I like the designs but damn, they can do better.
I like tip down with a lanyard hole on knives up to about a 2.25 inch blade because then I can hang my keys off it using the knife as a pocket clip. That's why I got the Pilar. I would have chosen a Spyderco or something but they don't offer tip down on many of the models that are the right size for a keychain knife that disappears in the palm of your hand when carrying your keys.
TheMawsJawz TM I just bought a M16-04KS today and the knife has a critical design flaw. The way the frame is cut, for the lock, leaves very sharp corners right against the pocket clip. This makes it impossible to draw the knife without it snagging on your pocket and getting stuck. The handle is also way too thin for a knife of its size. The pocket clip issue can be solved by moving it to the other side of the knife, but I’m right handed. I had an old pattern M16 years ago, thank god they still make it. I just went back to the store and got the old M16-04Z, superior in every single way. The old M16 doesn’t even have the final round hole machined out of the scale where the pocket clip goes, for easy draw. It comes with a lock safety, not that I’m a fan, but a more secure lock than the frame lock. Even the black paint on the blade of the 2018 model got a tiny scratch when I cut an envelope. Kit Carson would roll in his grave if he knew how they f-ed up his design.
You guys do realize that these are grown men that work around knife literally all day everyday right? It comes to a point where you can trust someone to not not stab you or have someone stab themselves. If nothing else just let them stab themselves and learn the hard way. You don't have to parent full grown men. Breathe. It'll be ok.
They have a new model that is awesome at slicing pig carcasses in half. Then there is this other new one which is also awesome at slicing pig carcasses in half. They are also doing a line of traditional gentleman's folders for slicing pigs in half. And an edc machete, it's pretty good at slicing pigs in half too.
Everynaut Did you see the one that can cut through the bamboo and then slice into the denim covered meat? It's only like 8in long folded. It's an EDC must
haha, I honestly literally pocket carried a Talwar today. I took my Hold Out 1 out of my shoulder bag because it would have been overkill carrying both. I guess I was being dropped into a wildland fire by helicopter though. Actually that still doesn't justify it...
Everynaut I got a RAT 1 pocket clipped on me though technically I could lose my job for it. But the box cutters suck so bad. It's not the most work friendly knife, but it does what I need it
Upgrade the Hootenanny!!!! Best large edc ever! Some of the knives are gentlemen knives some for tactical. Gotta pick my knife based on day clothes and events.
If they coul use ganzos g locks then they would have a folding knife . Almost no liner or modified liner ( intergul or however he spells it)lock can pass the spine wack or lock strength tests .
Almost every comment is about low grade steel blades. Would be interesting to hear crkt's reason why they haven't upped their game in regards to blade steel.

What kind of steel is the hatchet made of, I'm looking something better than 440.. I throw cold steel Norse Hawks, and I have a set of sog throwing Hawks (the older ones with the plastic or glass handles) but I wouldn't want to take it camping except for fun.. But not utility, the sogs don't hold an edge and the Norse are bladed on both sides neither gives a surface to use as a hammer.. And the Hawks at hardware stores I'm just not to sure, the full tang are too heavy and the wood handle ones are pretty poor blade/edge design, thick and flat ground (not that that's bad just the one I have is very soft steel
Andrew Gordon Then get a 'Prandi' or 'Estwing'...i think prandis are made in italy have an american hickory handle and sth like 1095 for the head, quite nice axes for the price
I had the old small m16 at one point and it was one of my all time least favorite knives. I might give it another shot now that they have been updated though.
I am really sad with those M16 models, i may be alone here but all i want is for them to keep the handguard and autolawks, and just give a full edge to the M16-14SFG. The handguard is the one thing that really made the knife stick out to me and it sucks they decided to ditch it

Couldnt you at least use 14c28n or 12c27 in the more popular models or ones designed by popular designers? That seems like a reasonable middle ground that wouldnt cost CRKT pretty much anything and would improve the entire knife community's opinion on them. I would LOVE to buy the new vox design with the field strip feature, but probably won't solely because of them using 8cr or AUS8 instead of the pretty much equal cost 14c28n or 12c27 and also partly because of the Teflon/plastic washers.
It would be nice to see XHP blade steel in the M16, M21 and other knives. I guarantee they would sell like hot cakes. AUS8 is getting long in the tooth. CTS-BD1 at the very least.
Oh and I wish they wouldnt ask for at least 40€ (In germany) for a knife made of 5Cr15mov. The scales arent perctly in line with the blade too... I mean the Blade shape is awesome and the sheath is a dream but still its not worth 40€ I would order at Blade HQ but paying 30$ for a 25$ knife is a bit of an overkill... And taxes will come on it too so Im defenetly not paying about 70$ for a piece of 5Cr15Mov steel blade.
I really like CRKT and have many of them. They could upgrade the steel, but many of their designs are amazing. In my opinion CRKT could go with s110v or Maxamet and some people would bitch that they are too difficult to sharpen.
No more 8cr Crap Please ... I thought this would be the year that they upgraded their steel , too bad , I won't be buying a CRKT this year. Its sad to see how they kill a decent knife design by putting a crap steel on it . Don't they ever read the comments, the knife community just doesn't want that cheap steel anymore , especially when we can get 14c28n or D2 for almost the same price. They did up grade the steel on the new M16's to Sandvik , but they didn't say which Sandvik steel or how much it was. We need to stick together this year and send a message to these knife companies , No more 8cr Crap steel , or aus8 or 420 ect. Im a collector and I'm good for 15 -20 folders a year and not one of them will be in any of those steels this year or from now on for that matter .I Hope you guys feel the same way.
Okay, so you (CRKT) decided to go with 8CR13 -- again -- which is why I completely understand "the inferiority complex" (that seems to be rampant) with the M16s. See, I had one years ago, whenever it first came out, and I REALLY tried to love it. I was trying to replace a Kershaw Blackout as my EDC-- the Blackout was a bit too big & the M16 seemed perfect. Unfortunately, the CRKT's blade rusted (in spite of the fact that I take care of my equipment) & it had that Gawd-awful auto-lawks sys. I remember somebody, at the time, describing the knife accurately as "a good design with poor execution." And, to be honest, it completely put me off of CRKT products for more than a decade... (In favor of Kershaw & Buck, tbh). That said, I now own the M16-01KS & I love it. (#1) You got rid of the awkward lock & (#2) you, at least coated the ((still)) 8CR blade... The knife (DESIGN) is STILL perfect for me-- discreet but there when I need it. I'm with you, Ben, in your preference for smaller knives. The way you describe it in the video is exactly how I think. *Only time will tell if the rust issue is gone, tho-- and, thusly, if I remain a CRKT fan-boy. Sad thing is, CRKT could have ensured that -- this time -- with just a marginally better steel.
I don't like the pocket clips on CRKT'S most are too short and thin. Protech has good pocket clips. They should be atleast half the length of the knife.
I like CRKT designs but they use such a low grade steel that I will never purchase another of their products until they update the steel to at least D2, sandvik 14c28n or VG10.
Ben, please use your connections with CRKT to try and get them to do some BHQ exclusives with premium materials. Things like the pilar, minimalist, or squid would fly off the shelves!!!

I would pay good money for CRKT designs WITH at least S30V. Upgrade your steels CRKT!
Jed Berg agreed
Jed Berg sadly the one time where they offered the hootenanny in s30v it turned out to be carbon steel. I would love that knife in s30v. Don't know why they don't do sprint runs. I think they would sell well (unfortunately their exclusives don't tend to be upgrades).
Jed Berg cpm s30v or s35vn
Hell I’d take a crkt in vg10
Jed Berg just ordered a Kershaw blur in s30v it ran about $75 ,my first blade in this Steel, I guess I'll figure it out as I go.
Notice how not once there is no mention on blade materials on any of these knives. It's because they are cheap Chinese 8cr13mov is my guess. CRKT just will not use quality blade materials!

Junk knives with cool designs. So they rope you in with the design but then you find out how bad they are once you try real knives.
zero 4U it is fine so long as you oil it
The material won't matter when the knife is inside of you
Ben, please tell them to use at least decent heat treated 8cr13mov and Aus8 or better steel. Couldn't agree more. I like the company and product designs, but I do want a higher quality steel
Hear hear!
Agree
Even 9Cr18MoV would do!
Lorem Ipsum hipsters run crkt I think.
I notice you don’t say anything about the steel. What’s up with that. Just go sell them at Walmart or in the display case at the gas station!!! Y’all think we’re all stupid!!!
Knives are interesting, but im watching all of theese vids for the awesome editing
Wow great line up CRKT is stepping up their game. That new M16 blows the old ones out of the water. 👍
I live in Oregon and there is CRKT, Gerber and Benchmade close by. Guess which one I’m going to do a factory tour next weekend? Bet the tour doesn’t include the cheap Chinese steel area.
Use better steel and get over your obsession with cheap liner locks and people will buy more crkt knives
CRKT I will buy your stuff if you make higher end versions and charge a premium! WE knife, Kizer and Reate are always willing to make knives for other companies with stellar fit and finish and materials.

Great video, love the pack axe, the HVAS, and the cuatro, cool collaborations of CRKT with some of my favourite designers, well done!
I never turn on notifications for anyone but you are the first one i have done this to.
Why did they not put a reversible clip on all those knives, especially that lightwight one 2nd one in, poor choice
A lot of the comments are regarding blade steel...I did hear mention of Sandvik steel at one point but I'm not sure if it was on one knife or all of them?
I love the fact that ( as I live in the UK ) the field strip is coming to number 1: a small knife
Number 2: a non-assisted opening knife.
But it has a locking system still, so...illegal to carry.
If the materials on the siwi are even decent it could be a great necked or edc belt blade. Imho
Also. I don't think no ever spent a day in Afghanistan without a crkt m16 somewhere on my person.
Not trying to be a butt but, there are still a bunch of people that do not like deep carry clips. It looked like all of those knives, except the m16s had a deep carry clip. I like the look of the prototype Hvas. Clean and simple. Hope they keep it like that.
Love the content keep up the good work guys. I believe I have one of those pack axes in my future🤔
Active duty here. I love the m16 models so much but the m21-14 SFG has always been with me on my travels. Any chance we will ever see the m21-14 SFG upgraded?! Where is the goken? I have been scouring the internet looming for it do you possibly know when they will release them, please any info would help.

Finally some steel upgrades!
If spyderco has the patent on thumb hole openers then why does the Benchmade Griptilian have a thumb hole?
They licensed it from Spyderco.

That LCK is where it's at, friends and neighbors...
Omg! So many cool knives!!! I should dramatically amend my wishlist)
I was hoping for a fixed blade James Williams model. He seems to be doing some mid-tech work on this front, but nothing on the production end.
Are the new m16s running on bronze or nylon washers ? or is it one nylon one bronze like the first seriers ?
What about this BHQ exclusive Pilar that was alluded to in the last CRkT video?????
See a lot of comments about blade steel but none mentioning the poor fit and finish of many CRKT knives ruining what would be a really compelling knife. Plus a ton of their knives are tip down only which ruin it completely. Just little, silly, or easy things that CRKT clearly isn't listening to their customers about. PutOutMyFireWithGasoline
It's frustrating. If they have half a shit about their product I'd love their knives
Everynaut Yeah, that's neat and dandy, but rip down ONLY is just a mistake when it comes to designing a knife.
Agreed, I can see the space restriction for tip down on some designs, but there is rarely a practical reason not to include tip up

Super Snappy = Use your wrist to throw the knife open?
captainsewerrat then the other guy from Blade HQ tried to flip it and it only halfway opened! Nothing snappy about that at all.
Wartching you guys hand off knives hurts... You don't thrust the knife towards them blade first, you grab the blade and give them the handle smh
Even better would be to close the F*ing thing first! I've always heard that it's "bad luck" to hand someone an open folding knife.
You guys do realize that these are grown men that work around knife literally all day everyday right? It comes to a point where you can trust someone to not not stab you or have someone stab themselves. If nothing else just let them stab themselves and learn the hard way. What's cold steel new line up for 2018?
looking foward for that!

Upgrade your blade steel CRKT. You can get an Ontario Rat 1 in D2 for cheap. IKBS sucks too. Little ball bearings flying all over the damn place!
It would be awesome if you could get different blades for the feildstrip knives
I love your reviews. I always enjoying during talking your vision, aaand these coments, replicas and sings are well maded ... :)
I think I am getting the m21 -04G g10 large should I ?
Is love to see you guys review bushcraft folders like Bob folder, Finwolf, Cold Steel folding puuko, Enzo Birk 75, or other scandi grind folders.
Can’t wait for the Hvas to release
Upgrade the Hootenanny!!!! Best large edc ever! Some of the knives are gentlemen knives some for tactical. Gotta pick my knife based on day clothes and events.
Are they getting read of all the other m16s
I look everywhere but where can I buy a clip for a CRKT M16-03S Classic
I have the m16-03ks and it's great with the 12c27 steel
Really liking that siwi fixed blade, y'all should have covered that sheath system more
How come then the benchmade griptilian you can get a thumb hole on it
My understanding is they've licensed it from Spyderco. -Ben
I just bought a M16-04KS today and the knife has a critical design flaw.
I’ve yet to purchase a CRKT blade but I think that M16 tanto is going to change that!! 🤘
How come Benchmade uses round hole also is Spyderco has the patent?
Love love crkt knifes they work well and take a hell of a beating
Why did you leave out the Kuk?
Food or knives? What should I chose?
Are you going to make a 01KS spear point
@bladehq can you guys do a video on axes for camping. but not hatchets or tomahawks
Andrew Gordon
I like the hultafors hunting axe and the gransförs bruks outdoors axe ;)
ya but they are pretty explensive for me
Andrew Gordon
Then get a 'Prandi' or 'Estwing'...i think prandis are made in italy have an american hickory handle and sth like 1095 for the head, quite nice axes for the price
Finally. Have been waiting for an m16 upgrade. Was really hoping to see the Rasp in this vid.
I'm confused, is this a video about knives, or a video about CRKT shirts? I can barely see the knives...

Vid on new benchmades???
What's the grand total because I want all of them.
Nice new designs. Cudos. Agree with others, better steels needed. Consumers see the value. Food for thought. As an aside, tip down support please.
If spyderco put a pat on the thumb hole how does benchmade do it on there griptilian
Nothing on the new kukri?
Reversible pocket clip with a frame lock. What's the point?
Can you scout carry the SiWi?
Just returned my first CRKT back where it belonged. Hope this video will change my mind.
The CRKT designs are hampered by mediocre materials and outsourced production to substandard makers.
Wish the M-16s had a use for the holes in the sides, make it a wrench.
spyderhole is not patented. its a design trademark.
I like the ax, but the Birler received bad reviews from many people. I hope the new one does better.
I like the SiWi as well.
Do Benchmade pay royalty too Spyderco for 555 model
show more of the knives up close
Oh and I wish they wouldnt ask for at least 40€ (In germany) for a knife made of 5Cr15mov. The scales arent perctly in line with the blade too... I mean the Blade shape is awesome and the sheath is a dream but still its not worth 40€ I would order at Blade HQ but paying 30$ for a 25$ knife is a bit of an overkill... And taxes will come on it too so Im defenetly not paying about 70$ for a piece of 5Cr15Mov steel blade.
It appears that the "price point" was lost after the first few offerings. That's a "negative" for me. TBH
Bahahaha great banter really enjoyed it
Price point of the SIWI is (??)
I really like CRKT and have many of them. They could upgrade the steel, but many of their designs are amazing. In my opinion CRKT could go with s110v or Maxamet and some people would bitch that they are too difficult to sharpen.
Liking that Maven.
The designs are nice but please use better materials, for now I pass.
I remember somebody, at the time, describing the knife accurately as "a good design with poor execution."
And, to be honest, it completely put me off of CRKT products for more than a decade... (In favor of Kershaw & Buck, tbh).
That said, I now own the
M16-01KS & I love it.
Hvas is not danish, it's ancient norse. In danish, sharp is called "Skarp". Just swap the h with a k.
can't wait for the VOX x Fieldstrip model!!!! Please don't make it in 8cr thou, go with VG or S30V. I sure as hell ain't paying $80 for AUS.
I like CRKT designs but they use such a low grade steel that I will never purchase another of their products until they update the steel to at least D2, sandvik 14c28n or VG10.
I sorta kinda like the hatchet, I guess. The rest I didn't see anything that calls to me.
I geeked out so hard
I would pay a bit for a LCK with S30V
