Hand carved spatula using sharp knife

Using a knife to carve a spatula. This is the next step after roughing out the shape with an axe. The knife is a Morakniv 106 carving knife. The hook knife is from Wood Tools.

What wood was used? And would it need to be sealed with an oil?

This one is Alder. I typically use a thin layer of Walnut oil to finish.
