While at our cabin in Alaska, I decided to hand carve a cooking spoon and use it to cook our meal. The wood is Alder. I only used traditional tools such as an axe, knife, and hook knife. I then used the spoon I carved to cook reindeer sausage and vegetables on a skillet over campfire. ASMR Video has no talking; just sounds of carving and cooking. I carved two spatula blanks from an alder log at our cabin in Alaska. Alder is a nice piece of wood to work with. I really enjoyed carving at this spot while listening to all the birds and other nature sounds. It was still relatively cold which was great since there were no mosquitoes! I planned on bringing the spatula blanks on a trip and finish them while traveling. I was using the Adler Clas...

This video shows the entire process of carving a spoon. We had tree fall down during a winter storm. After cutting it up with the chainsaw, I got a bent branch and carved it into a small ladle using an axe and knives. I still have a lot to learn and need a lot more practice. I learned by watching UA-cam videos from: @Zedoutdoors @andyspoons @BertramCraftAndWilderness Cheers and enjoy...

Clearing the area around the firepit after a long winter. Lots of small trees were leaning over and had to be cut down. I plan on carving here throughout the summer. #alaska #spooncarving #outdoors #bushcraft #woodcarving #wood
Perfect 👍👏👏👏
What wood did you choose?
@@ericmallory9700 Alder. They’re everywhere.
Boy scout I learned from lesbians and didn't have to give up my butthole for it
Excellent. I use the Mora 120. You are making consider the 106.
Thanks. I need to get me a 120 just to try it out. A lot of the folks I watched on yt recommended the 106 so that’s what I started out with.
That is an excellent spoon…. I was sitting in my backyard next to the wood stove under a lean-to type pagoda shelter, drinking tea and playing chess with my neighbour. I had built the shelter myself, I had carved the chess set by hand and also carved to spoons we were using to stir our tea by hand as well. He looked up at the roof of the shelter, down at the chess set, then looked at the spoons and said, “If we dropped you in a forest with nothing but a saw, an axe and a knife…. you could making everything you would need couldn’t you” To which I replied, “that’s the whole idea” The creative act of making something is the very thing that elevates us up to a higher level. Anyone can be a consumer, if you want to feel good about yourself become a creator.
That’s awesome! Carving a chess set is a whole new level. Thanks for sharing.

Great work!
Thanks. Great little axe!
Ugly
What wood was used? And would it need to be sealed with an oil?
This one is Alder. I typically use a thin layer of Walnut oil to finish.
This video shows the log and the axing process for this particular piece: ua-cam.com/video/ZgdVcXQt6hQ/v-deo.htmlsi=coaidodLnopT8eSv
Very nice spoon! I like that chainsaw. 16" Ryobi cordless? What's the ballpark price for something like that?
Ryobi 14inch 40V cordless. Looks like it’s around $300 with 4Ah battery right now.
Those finishing cuts look so satisfying haha. Loved seeing the full process. Keep up the good work sir!
Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback and greetings from Alaska!
Parabéns pelo ótimo vídeo. Sucesso e boas vibrações
Thanks!

Hi there. Alaska.
At the beginning of your video I thought your dog was going to either introduce you or give some sort of tool use warnings by the way it was looking at the camera and sat up when you started recording.
I see what you mean. Lol
Awesome! Hope to see the knife work as well!
Thanks! Working on the knife work now.
Posted the knife work.
Hey man I gotta say this is very impressive and just keep up this great work and never give up on your amazing talent
Thanks for that! Have a good day!
@@frozen_toes_ak your so very welcome!!😃
What oil do you use? Very nice spoons. I like them a lot.
Hi there. Thanks a lot. I use walnut oil most of the time. I also use flax seed oil sometimes. Cheers!
What kind of wood?
I’m more than 80% sure it’s Alder. Lol. Will confirm once the leaves are back.
Amazing! Beautiful
Thanks!
Right on! Hey! we have one of these!! :)
Enjoy!
Amazing chainsaw 👍
Excellent, nice work.
Thanks! Cheers!
Never carved ash before, was it still green? Beautiful soon btw!
Thanks! That piece was sitting in the garage for a couple of months. It was still relatively easy to work on.
I’m from here! Are you native or were you visiting? If so, I hope your stay was nice. I also like your woodcarvings 💜
Hi! I was visiting family there. Glad you liked the spoon carvings. Hoping to carve a spoon next time I’m in HI. Thanks!
Not trying to be rude, but it kinda looks like goldfish
Goldfish sounds good too. I forgot to put “whale tail”.
Gorgeous! Did you use a spoon knife? If so what kind?
Yes. I used the compound spoon knife from Wood Tools.
What type of oil is that? Wallnut? Thanks!
Yes, it’s walnut oil.
Done.
Yup. Finally!
When they used to tell you to pick the stick you got spanked with:
Just like back in my day…

yeah, it's a nice sound

Thanks for the videos. I still go back and rewatch them when I'm struggling with specific areas.
Smooth!!
Thanks
Nice spoon man
Thanks!

Very therapeutic. Love it. What type of wood are you carving from?
It’s therapeutic for me too! Wood is mountain ash.

Thanks, you too!
Not too shabby! Very relaxing. 👍👍
Thanks! The carving process is very relaxing for me.
@@frozen_toes_ak Same. On youtube, I mainly throw shuriken; in reality, I'm nearly as passionate about spoon carving. Looks like you got a nice, thin bowl to that one; should be very comfortable to use, aye? 👍👍
@@TheShurikenZone nice! Just saw your kolrossing short. I need to learn how to that one of these days.
@frozen_toes_ak Kolrosing is a lot of fun. Laying out the grid with pencil is the hardest part, I think. That, and knowing that mistakes can't be corrected, and an over-cut of half a millimeter will be an eyesore. hah I just try to put that part out of my mind.
Nice work
Thanks
Looks good
Excellent video
Thanks @DaveCollierCamping
"There is no spoon"
Not yet :)
Excellent work. 👍👍👍 Word of warning to anyone doing the same.. *Don’t use ‘Kiln Dried Wood’.* During the forced drying process the wood develops internal cracks and splits inside that you cannot see, you get 3/4 of the way through your carving project and suddenly come across the internal cracks as you carve, [I’ve done this and ended up with spoons where I have had to fill the cracks up with resin glue or even abandon the project. Extremely annoying.
Good to know. Thanks!
Btw, this birch log was felled by my neighbor last summer. I meant to carve it while it was still green but didn’t get around to it until recently. Didn’t want to waste the piece so I attempted it anyway. I’m glad it didn’t crack during the process. I agree, that would be really annoying!
Maybe it will, maybe it wont
Que isiste😂

You do this WITHOUT a Kevlar glove?? Someday😱😱
Hi, do you have good Kevlar glove you would recommend?
@@frozen_toes_ak NO, I don't carve. Have attended many woodworking shows and have NEVER seen a carver who didn't use one. Several taught classes and unless people taking classes had one I was told they would not be allowed in class. Believe it or not. Good luck.
@@ronallen6578I appreciate your feedback. Cheers!
