I have tears in my eyes hearing about your hedgehog's story. I fostered several hedgehogs, and I miss my lil angels. They lived a long, healthy, and fun life when I had them.
With Augusto standing next to you nearly still for most of the video, I notice more of your body movements. Weird. Also, yay! Augusto finally appeared on camera!.
I know it must be heartbreaking knowing that you can't help all the animals in need that might come your way, but I am happy that you do as much as you can. I hope you can continue your mission for a long time to come!
Poor little Budgie :( I hope she recovers. My childhood pet was a lovely little Budgie. I would adopt her in a heartbeat if I didn't live on the other side of the continent.
augusto's in the video! yaaay! i love you two together - you're both so well-informed and articulate, as well as being generally adorable. keep doing what you're doing. love from pennsylvania
We were contacted by the state once for a confiscated alligator. We couldn't provide her the proper care so we found and offered them a suitable placement out of state. Most of our animals were once private pets that came from pet stores, vet clinics, and the owner themselves. Some are from private zoos, and some are unreleasable wildlife from rehab centers.
We're working on making a tour episode! We owe this to all of our Patreon supporters for reaching one of our goals. I'm excited about making it, but the logistics are complicated, so it's taking longer than we had hoped.
I didn't know hedgehogs could hurt themselves by running too much... Now I'm a little worried about how much my hedgehog runs in the morning. He sometimes runs for hours at a time, is that too much?
As long as his body condition is good then running is great for his health and happiness. Many hedgehogs are overweight so exercise is needed, but sometimes one will choose running over eating, or they are poorly nourished and can't sustain the amount of energy they are expending. If you can see his backbone or hip bones protruding then be concerned. If he looks well fed then let him do what he likes to do. If you can't tell, take him in for a checkup and physical exam. A vet will be able to let you know how he's doing. Thank you for wanting the best for your hedgie friend :)
Happy to see these new animals in good hands! Unrelated, but I just got back from Costa Rica and I got to see one of Kemosabe's relatives in the wild! If it hadn't been for your videos I wouldn't have known what the sleeping black creature in the tree was.
I own a african pygmy hedgehog and he is my best friend! They can be difficult pets to care for, it it so sad when a animal gets abandoned because an owner does not realize what kind of care they need. Hedgehogs can make great pets, for certain people. I love my little hedgehog and he's the best pet I have ever owned! Great for you guys to take on that little one! She is going to be much happier and healthier with you guys! How is your other hedgehog, Groucho I think his name was? :)
How did Animal Wonders get started? Do you have a degree? I'm a 2nd year college student, currently pre-vet. I am extremely interested in doing what you do. I'm sure the costs of running a place like this is pretty high considering all of the different animals needs. Can you do a video for people like me who are interested in becoming an animal rescuer and caregiver like you and the rest of the people at Animal Wonders Montana?
+brightlightsbigcites Hi! Maybe I could do a more in depth video about the day to day trials of running AW? That might give a better idea of what goes in not just caring for the animals but how we know how to care for new species, raise the funds for their care, and also keep the business side going as well. Have you seen this video yet? ua-cam.com/video/Wd-OMmqTTzM/v-deo.html It tells about how it all got started.
Hi Jessi! I just recently rescued a yellow fronted Amazon named Ollie. His previous owner could no longer care for him due to family issues but took great care of him while he was with her. However, I'm concerned he might be developing some cage aggression (he spent a lot of time in his cage the past few months) and unfortunately this has caused a couple of pretty painful bites. He takes food through his bars and when he is out of his cage and seems to love when we are around. Any suggestions on working with Ollie and his biting and cage aggression? Thanks!
I am a business major in college and thinking about doing some sort of a none profit once I am done with college. Could you do an episode on how to start a business like this, the legal and financing hurdles you have to go through and also training.
Great question. I've gone over this with so many people and it was something I needed help with in the beginning too. Thanks for asking, I'll put it in the mix of potential scripts!
How often do animals get put up for adoption? I'm curious because some of the pets you keep are considered wild animals (foxes, skunks, etc.) and would obviously have to stay with you, but some of them are common pet animals (rabbits, rats, parrots) and could be re-homed. Is it simply when you run out of space?
+ohbthr It depends on the animal species, temperament, and what our resources are at the time. Animals that need permits to have are not rehomed unless we cannot care for their life-long needs appropriately, and then to a zoo or comparable facility. Domestic or exotic animals commonly kept as pets are sometimes put up for adoption if their temperament is suitable for a regular household and we don't have space or already have their species represented by an ambassador. It's not often since adopting out is not our focus, but it does occasionally happen that we have the extra time to rehab an animal that we might not be able to keep for their entire life.
+animalwondersmontana hi😊, like yourself i love animals and had a hige set up in my house in syria but i had to move to lebanon after the war in syria. some of my pets are still cared for in syria, however my 5 greek tortoises were in bad condition so i moved them over with me and now they temporarily have no enclosure and live freely on my roof I feed them every day with pellets and fresh greens. Do you have any suggestions for how to make an outdoor enclosure for tortoises on a roof or balcony? please help because i saw my male mate with 3 females and they might need soil to lay eggs and i just need help. i was thinking about letting them roam free on my balcony and have a soil pot that they can enter, or just an enclosure. #askjessi
Do you have to worry about rescues carrying something contagious? I remember Hara has some kind of parasite that's raptor specific, but what about something could affect other ambassadors, like even just fleas?
Hi I've been a subscriber for about 2 years now and have been watching every video that gets uploaded since then and I've always had pets and have always kept rats especially and I have started breeding my show rats and I watched your video on the scishow talk show from last year about how you selectively breed rats and would love for you to make a video about your experience Thanks , Tyrese
We don't know exactly what happened, but the inflammation of the tissue around the site suggests they were forcibly removed. I'm thinking they got caught in a door of some sort or they were pulled out. Her left wing is also damaged so I'm imagining she was very roughly handled at some point. She's a sweetheart and deserves to be treated gently. She's on the mend after just a few days and I'm expecting her tail feathers to start coming in any day now.
Where do you live! Love you animal wonders I want to come to your place I could bring all my dogs eat at my dog when do you want me to come I can come anytime only when I get my passport I'm at Mom's bye

Augusto you did great :)
Yes! I know you're shy and don't like the camera so much, but you're awesome too, I'd like to see you on the show more often :-)
The way Augusto looks at Jessi tho.>v

I have tears in my eyes hearing about your hedgehog's story. I fostered several hedgehogs, and I miss my lil angels. They lived a long, healthy, and fun life when I had them.

Augusto, you did fantastic! As did you, Jesse. 😊
Hi, Augusto! You're Awesome! :)
I love it when your family helps you with your videos.
Omg... U look like the real life couple version of the couple from the movie "Rio" 😍 Love you guys!
That is so nice glad you rescued them
Are you ever contacted by law enforcement about cases of animal abuse and neglect? Or are all your rescues from owners/vets/pet stores?
We were contacted by the state once for a confiscated alligator. We couldn't provide her the proper care so we found and offered them a suitable placement out of state. Most of our animals were once private pets that came from pet stores, vet clinics, and the owner themselves. Some are from private zoos, and some are unreleasable wildlife from rehab centers.
I really enjoy this channel and also reading the comments. It is reassuring to see such a healthy and friendly cummunity around here!
Isn't everyone here awesome! Good work comments section, you guys rock!
Who else whistles along to the intro?? I love it :)
+imElaine ee I can't whistle.. :( So I hum along like I do for all the SciShow and Crash Course videos xD
Aww a hedgehog and a budgie, they're both so adorable :-)
I love seeing Augusto! Also, I squealed when I saw the hedgehog. I'm looking forward to more videos with her! (And Augusto!)
it about time we got to see more of Augusto :-)
Thank you for all of the wonderful hard work that you both do!! You two are such beautiful inspirations!!
Is there any chance that you can do a full tour of you facility for 50k subscribers?
We're working on making a tour episode! We owe this to all of our Patreon supporters for reaching one of our goals. I'm excited about making it, but the logistics are complicated, so it's taking longer than we had hoped.
Augusto was great, hope to see more of him.
I hope one day I find someone that looks at me the way Augusto looks at Jessi 😍
Augusto is the luckiest man around and at least he knows it!
What a cute little hedgie good to know she will be socialized well and not be neglected
Good to see Augusto in the video!

Saw the title, saw the guest Augusto, automatically assumed that Augusto was the new rescue before thinking about how that couldn't be. lol
Cool to see Augusto in the video!

Y'all do good work. Proud to support. :)
Yay Augusto! Good to see you, man :)
Thank you for all you guys do! Also, on Smile Amazon, you can pick Animal Wonders, MT. 🌈💜 👍😊😸
I'm wondering why Augusto isn't in many videos. is he more camera shy or is he simply busy with other aspects of Animal Wonders?
Augustoooooooooo! :)

Literally linda and tulio from rio

Hi Augusto!
What do you think of keeping birds in captivity to be more specific breeding them to keep them here
My mom had to watch my sister when she was young do to my sister constantly smuggling kittens into the house, and my mom is allergic to cats.
My name is August !! :D
You guys are so cute, how come Augusto stopped appearing in videos like this?
+animalwondersmontana hi😊, like yourself i love animals and had a hige set up in my house in syria but i had to move to lebanon after the war in syria. some of my pets are still cared for in syria, however my 5 greek tortoises were in bad condition so i moved them over with me and now they temporarily have no enclosure and live freely on my roof I feed them every day with pellets and fresh greens. Poor little pygmy hedgehog, and poor Jessi getting splattered about the 1min mark.
How's Rook? :)

Thanks for watching and for writing in! I'd love to talk more about rats, they are one of my favorite animals!
So, what happened to that budgie's tailfeathers? Were they plucked, cut, or is it some kind of birth defect?
We don't know exactly what happened, but the inflammation of the tissue around the site suggests they were forcibly removed. I'm thinking they got caught in a door of some sort or they were pulled out. Her left wing is also damaged so I'm imagining she was very roughly handled at some point. If jessi could bottle her energy to sell she'd be a multi
billionaire.
have you been to peec anybody??
DOPE
Well I see where the idea behind sonic the hedgehog comes from then.
*Augusto, woops, spelled your name wrong I was too excited
Kim and Kanye? Beyonce and Jay-Z? Nah, how about Jessi and Augusto for relationship goals? I think yes. :D
Budgie smugglers
Mexican Markiplier
Sooo...Did he pee on you? :D
+OtherSideOfMorning Shame on you! Augusto would never do such a thing! D:< Oh, wait... Were you talking about one of the animals...? #Kappa
+OtherSideOfMorning Haha, apparently I used my shirt instead of a towel to dry her off after her bath.
+AnimalWonders Montana Haha... I just noticed you were getting progressively wetter as you talked about Hedgehog.

I have contacted Immigration, this guy will be out of our way shortly.
