sadly according to AnimalWonders today "We had to say goodbye to our dear friend Curly Bird. He was a teacher his whole life and has touched an incredible number of lives in his 17 years. Curly was always surrounded by affection and dedication. He started his career as an ambassador at America's Teaching Zoo where he inspired hundreds of students to selflessly give their time to help animals. He spent the last 6 years of his life at Animal Wonders spreading joy and education to Montanans. It's amazing that this quiet little bird born with a malformed leg and crooked beak has created countless ripples in this world. What a magnificent legacy."
I feel like Hank has very similar moments of sheer "I'm excited to be learning" as I would in these situations. Therefore I love him as a host. Ahhhh! Birds!!!! Dinosaurs!!! I I've be excited about this since I was 12.
I died laughing when she was like "he also sticks it up when he is trying to impress a female. So he might be trying to impress you, hank." And hank just stated "I'm impressed", completely oblivious that she just called him a female. 😂
Curly's feathers look really awesome! and whole talk about birds are just really fascinating. When I was a child I couldn't imagine those pretty little birds were actually related to huge dinosaurs that were featured on children books and movies
I love when the first guest also knows quite a bit about whatever animal Jessi brings in, because that always makes the conversation much more interesting. In other words, bringing in an evolutionary biologist whose study is focused on dinosaurs, including modern ones, as well as a living bird, made for very good questions.
Hank, I want to thank you and your crew! My daughters and I watch SciShow and the Talk Show, together. It's a great bonding experience for us and my girls have learned SO much from you! The wide-eyed expression on my six-year-old's face when I confirmed that Dinosaurs didn't go extinct was priceless! I sincerely hope you're still doing this when we're both old and grey, so I can introduce the next generation to the wonders of Science! IMHO you rank right up there with Mr. Wizard and Bill Nye!

Reminds me of the last time I was at the Boston Public garden, there was a large swan growling and hissing at terrified kids through a mesh enclosure. I pointed out the fact that birds are direct descendants of dinosaurs, a fact that becomes very obvious when you deal with larger birds like swans, geese, and emu's and ostriches. They can be very territorial and quite nasty, especially in groups.
This was such a great episode, sometimes in the natural history museum I contemplate how great it would be to stick feathers to their models/animatronics- accuracy vandalism. Also the collapsable puff on curly bird is adorable.
That last bit with them chatting about birds was fantastic. I wanted to shout "Bird Nerd Alert!" I like when people of similar professions start going off about it together.
I think this is one of my favorite episode of talk show so far. Very interesting! Beautiful bird and the stuff about dinosaurs was really cool. You learn something new every day! :)
exactly! It's hard to put it into words. I think the bright feathers plus limited gliding abilities would make medium-sized therapods far more frightening in the movies. Often nature produces the best cinematic effects all on its own.
For the Cheetah question, my first thought was it's heart. They require a tremendous amount of blood flow to sprint and the Cheetah has an oversized heart to obtain its top speed.
yep, they're both amazing animals. I personally find the antelope agility more impressive mind you. Especially with their jumping, if you've ever seen impalas virtually take flight on a jump!
which is why I included evolutionary history. Torosaurus and Triceratops existed around the same time, and are easily classified within the same family due almost completely homologous skeletons. However, pterosaurs and avian dinosaurs, which I assume he was referring to when he talked about "flying lizards" and "flying dinosaurs", have established separate lineages in the fossil record as evidence of their evolutionary distance, in addition to their flying being more analogous than homologous
I can never understand how people think the feathers make therapods look less scary. if anything, I think it makes them more...chaotic looking, and therefore more frightening. I am all for feathered raptors.

That bird... Has a retractable mohawk. Holy awesome...
I died laughing when she was like "he also sticks it up when he is trying to impress a female. So he might be trying to impress you, hank." And hank just stated "I'm impressed", completely oblivious that she just called him a female. 😂
@@MatthewSmith-sz1yq yep. I thought it looked like a really dense, fluffy huge makeup brush on his head.
She looks so happy sharing all those info about birds, i love to see people passionate about the stuff they do!
Jessi is crazy awesome! I'd like to hang out with her and listen to her talk about animals all day. :-)
"He won't flap."
"E-even if you..."
*plop*
Oh god that was just adorable xD
When Hank said "I love grapes too" I expected, and even hoped, that he would eat the grape himself.
You guys are awesome and I'm so glad that you are on the internet and not Discovery Channel or National Geographic Wild.
Anytime cheetahs and dinosaurs take part in the same episode is awesome.
Best talk show yet! Thanks!
You know what makes scishow the most real, honest nerd show out there? That awkward, unedited ending, every single episode.
THIS is reality TV.
I loved this episode so much. So captivating!
You can just tell Jessi is a great person who loves what she does. It's refreshing to see someone so passionate!
Brandon Jackson is the best interview Hank has ever had. This was a great show.
I love the guests! They both know their stuff! I love Curly Bird too!
i liked having both of the guests contributing with complimentary knowledge
That was definitely one of the best scishow talk shows!
15:20 I laughed far harder than I should have at this demonstration.
Curly's feathers look really awesome! and whole talk about birds are just really fascinating. When I was a child I couldn't imagine those pretty little birds were actually related to huge dinosaurs that were featured on children books and movies
I like it when the 1st guest and the animal guest complement each other like they did on this episode.
Love the longer episodes
That bird is absolutely beautiful, such a great green and red in its feathers, amazing.
I love when the first guest also knows quite a bit about whatever animal Jessi brings in, because that always makes the conversation much more interesting. In other words, bringing in an evolutionary biologist whose study is focused on dinosaurs, including modern ones, as well as a living bird, made for very good questions.
I always love seeing Jessie and it was especially neat to see the conversation between her and Brandon. Good picks, Hank!
Jessi always seems so enthusiastic about these animals! It's fantastic!

Best scishow talk show ever. Loved the guests and loved the conversation.
all i needed to hear from this show was fluffy baby t-rex's...

Every time I've handled a chicken, I seriously just think "Velociraptor."
This was such a great episode, sometimes in the natural history museum I contemplate how great it would be to stick feathers to their models/animatronics- accuracy vandalism. Also the collapsable puff on curly bird is adorable.
This was a great episode! I love the reactions of people who study fossils/evolution when they see live animals.
These episodes are so interesting. That bird is really beautiful.
Jessi and Brandon's interactions really upped the interest factor of the show.
Hank always sounds so professional during SciShow Talk Show! Live it! Gorgeous bird and very interesting information. :)
hank smoking at 3:27 haahah
Oh wow. Nicely noticed.
I love when Brandon is surprised by the bird not moving his wings
The was a great episode, keep up the good work.
This was one of my favorite SciShow Talk Show episodes. Good stuff!
That last bit with them chatting about birds was fantastic. I wanted to shout "Bird Nerd Alert!"
I like when people of similar professions start going off about it together.
best episode so far. you brought in an animal that your guest can relate to which is perfect. keep up the good work
Thanks for the episode its so much fun to see Jessi super excited about the bird! Really love the Talk Show :)
This installment of the talk show was super interesting. Evolutionary Biology is awesome.
JOY!
Thanks so much!
When he just flops in your hand that was hilarious!
I like when Curly Bird just flopped upside when she tilted him, LOL.
I think this is one of my favorite episode of talk show so far. Very interesting! Beautiful bird and the stuff about dinosaurs was really cool. You learn something new every day! :)
Me too; biologist (or biology enthusiasts) make great SciShow Talk Show guests.
I LOL'ed so hard when she turned the bird vertical on her hand and the bird plopped on the other hand xD
Awesome show - I loved how you had 2 people with different perspectives on the same topic.
"T-Rex, at least as a baby, was downy and fluffy."
IT'S SO FLUFFY I'M GONNA DIE!!!
Brandon was the best guest yet! Hank, please bring more scientists on the show
Fluffy tyrannosourus rex! :D
Fluffy dinosaurs, the new teddy bear for bed time
Do these more often. Had fun watching this, very informative.
Oh my god, he is ADORABLE
Thanks for the show.
All covered with soft downy feathers. Sounds pretty adorable honestly
exactly! It's hard to put it into words. I think the bright feathers plus limited gliding abilities would make medium-sized therapods far more frightening in the movies. Often nature produces the best cinematic effects all on its own.
always joyful to see pretty animals.
one of your best to date
keep 'em comin
I love this. It always makes my day when there's a new video up. ::)
Sci show is my favorite blog brothers project
that turaco's hairdo! beautiful
I love these vids, always pumped to see them!
The bird to the Brandon "Hey..Hey...Look at my hair...don't you wish you have this" 10:00
Definitely one of my faves!
R.I.P Curly the White Cheeked Turaco
Wow, the Turaco is a fascinating bird. I would love to see it in person. :D
For the Cheetah question, my first thought was it's heart. They require a tremendous amount of blood flow to sprint and the Cheetah has an oversized heart to obtain its top speed.
This was awesome! Thanks Hank! :)
Thank you, I am now imagining parkouring baby velociraptors. Thanks SciShow
I love the guy walking in the background
That bird's little crest is just screaming "pet me".
the bird is adorable, instead of flapping, it just gives up and falls
:) I love scishow! You guys make it fun and interesting to learn about anything! ♥thankyou!
That was a really good talk show.
Also I love the bird, *nope* "I don't mind flopping..."
I Love Scishow! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
That bird has a 70's Hair-due. I am picturing him with a guitar and singing the blues.
I love how Hank uses the word lithe, and then the word bendy XD
yep, they're both amazing animals. I personally find the antelope agility more impressive mind you. Especially with their jumping, if you've ever seen impalas virtually take flight on a jump!
1:47 "And this is probably what it DUD". Lololol
It is the live animal factor that does it!
I think this was your best guest yet.
16 years old and only expected to live for 12 years! Curly Bird Lad
Excellent show! Would like to learn more about Brandon Jackson's research!!!
Curlybird's puff is almost as magnificent as John's.
Baby T-Rex: the most adorable of carnivorous dinosaurs.
which is why I included evolutionary history. Torosaurus and Triceratops existed around the same time, and are easily classified within the same family due almost completely homologous skeletons. 16:17 creeped me out, i have a good eye (guy in the background) lol
omg Jesse looked so happy to have someone else who knows about animals (well, birds).
Very cool! Awesome looking bird and loved the info!
Awesome episode guys.
Great show everyone
Dinosaurs are so great, and now we know they were fluffy.
It has a John puff!!
This was so awesome.
Love turacos!
I like Jessi more than any other of the visitors.
Jesse and Animal Wonders are the best!
I can never understand how people think the feathers make therapods look less scary. if anything, I think it makes them more...chaotic looking, and therefore more frightening. I am all for feathered raptors.
Awesome episode of talks how!
