Nice to see you again, new pretty picture. So how many lights are there? What did the soft light box do, and why did it not appear in the 43 photos that followed. Hope to see the specific position and Angle of the light more clearly. love you
Yes sorry, it was a bit unclear. You can forget about the soft box, I did not use that flash in the final shot. So, it's only two flashes. One from top and one for the background. The idea with the soft box was to get a bit more light on the crown side of the watch and then add only that area in Photoshop BUT, I forgot to use the soft box image in the retouching process so. Just forget about that light, it will be more clear when I soon post the retouching video. Thanks /Martin
Well, I just program one of the modes C1, C2 or C3 so the scene look the same in live view. For example, I shoot in Manual mode at F13, 1/200, ISO100. When turing on live view that settings doesn't work - screen pitch black. I then start to change the settings so I can see the modelling lights in live fire mode. Probably something more like F2.8, 1/200, ISO800, White balance Light bulb or what ever it's called - just changing the settings so it looks the same in live view as when taking a shot in Manual mode. And saving this setting to C1-C3. Hope you got that... it's late here in Stockholm... .)
@@botvidsson Thank you for the clarification. Became your recent fan of your video's. Highly appreciate the reply, despite the video being old. Please keep doing what you're doing. We respect it. Its sunny afternoon here in Chennai,India.
Oh nice! So you actually only used two lights to make the final shot, cool! I am wondering though how and if the 3rd stripbox would add onto the watch. Looking forward to seeing post, cheers
I actually forgot to add in the strip box shot in the post video... totally forgot we took it so... yes, only two flashes. And the post video will be called: Dirty Little Tricks in Photoshop 😉 Thanks!
Amazing job. I have a little question, for the focus stacking, in this case, you manage the focus with the focus ring on the lens or did you use a micrometric slide?
@@botvidsson Thank you so much, next step...buy a slider! I noticed that changing the focus on lens makes big trouble :D Thanks to your videos now i have many ideas to try. Your work it's inspiring! :)
I have this from Manfrotto, never used it though www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/554343-REG/Manfrotto_454_454_Micrometric_Positioning_Sliding.html I think it's way to pricy for what you get, probably better to look for some kind of Chinese knock off brand. I started to use a motorized slider from Rhino that works great BUT I just realised that the best and free way is to shoot tethered with the software like Hasselblad's Phocus or Capture One or maybe even the totally free Canon Utility (not sure if it works) and then you just switch the focus in the software!
hey great tutorial. nice to watch :) can I ask u if thats difference in "watch" photography if you have makro lens or not, it would be cool to make dial even closer and see everything inside. Croping not working like that.
In this kind of photo you probably don't need a makro lens but as you say, if you want to go close up on the dial you must have a macro lens. If you like to do super macro shots you need another specialised lens, I happen to have that. Yes, maybe it's time for a macro shot next episode! 😃
Well. It wasn’t really needed but I think the watch look nice when you’re showing the lume. We used a longer shutter speed to capture the lume. Don’t know if that answered your q.
@@botvidsson Thanks for the quick reply! So to reiterate, the longer shutter speed lume shot is to capture the blue color on the table which was missing in the original shots?
@@IannWu No, the long exposure lime shot was just to capture the luted index markers on the dial. In Photoshop I added the markers on the first main focus stacked shot. Might make more sense if you watch the retouching video.
A few questions for ya. How I (amateur photographer) break into doing product photography for businesses? Are you using capture one? If so I heard say that you were going to be doing some focus stacking. Is that capture one? If so do you have any tutorials?
Yes I use CaptureOne when shooting with my Canon. Focus stacking you do in Photoshop or in Helicon Focus, I have tutorials on that. Look under the playlist retouching tutorials on my channel. Look after this watch and the Photoshop icon.
I use D2, D1 and Pro heads and Multispot from Profoto. I use D2/D1 monolights cuz I shoot in studio, don't need battery stuff that often. And the D2's have very fast flash duration if I like to freeze stuff.
You could do that but there's a limit how "high" you can go on the aperture until the overall quality/sharpness goes bad. I don't exactly remember what I said but I guess I stayed at f11 coz we were doing the focus stacking. To get the best quality I should probably shoot at maximum f8 or something like that. Every lens has a sharpness sweet spot, if you focus stack, stay at the sweet spot. When I shot with my Hasselblad I always shoot at f13 or f16, the 120mm lens, sharpness sweet spot.
Awesome vid! Can i ask what kind of diffusion paper you use? is there any difference in how much that paper are transparent? can you link something from amazon? :)
Thanks 🙏 Under the video you'll find a Amazon link: GEAR I USE The first 3 items: Savage translum diffusion I use, if you get one roll it will probably last the rest of your life and I recommend the MEDIUM one.
