Marshall Tucker - "Can't You See", Allman Bros - "Mountain Jam", Skynny Lynyrd - "Free Bird".....and on, and on and on. This music is relavant today. It is timeless!
I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in Charlotte, NC around 1975, MTB opened for them and put on one hell of a show. Skynyrd came out, RVZ was drinking from a bottle of Jack, drunk, fell off stage, broke his arm and was taking away by Paramedics. The show was stopped for about 20 minutes, lights down and BAM, MTB came on stage with Skynard, 7 guitars across front of stage and a lot of raising hell. Great show, great times. Tommy and Toy, RIP, you are missed.
I saw Marshall Tucker open for the Eagles in Chicago around 1975...... I love The Eagles, but the the Marshall Tucker Band, in all reality, blew the Eagles off the stage..... After they got done, there was really nothing left for the Eagles to do.............
@@jackoshaw I can see that. The Eagles never kicked ass "live".. They were like an ATM, strictly about the money. Bands like Skynyrd and MTB hit the stage every night like a German Blitzkrieg. It didn't matter whether they were making 50 grand or 50 bucks.
Wow. Great memories there. I saw LS in 1975 also but nothing like that happen. They were one guitarist less was after Ed King left and before Steve Gaines. Saw MTB 3-4 times in the 70’s. Love MTB! Great times for sure.
I was at that show too. MTB was great of course, but man I was disappointed that Skynryrd didn't play an entire show. I remember Doug seemingly trying to coach Artimus to lock into some kind of groove they all could jam on at least but he couldn't seem to find what Doug had in mind. Doug just gave up after a bit and Skynryrd ultimately did FB without vocals. Goodnight. It's only rock n roll but I like it.
Holy shit! Talk about dynamics. What a band. Toy could solo his ass off. But Paul Riddle and Tommy Caldwell and George McCorkle held it down big time. Just the freaking best.
I hate how The Marshall Tucker Band always had to live in the shadow of the Allman Brothers when they were nothing like the Allman Brothers AT ALL. Don't get me wrong, I love the Allman Brothers Band but they were more on the bluesy side of things. MTB was like a cowboy version of Chicago or something, they were in a category all by themselves that's for sure. Like I always say, my favorite rock group is the Marshall Tucker Band and my favorite country group is the Marshall Tucker Band.
Now this is a great way to enjoy any day or night.. old school days and old school classic rock music.. I absolutely love this band .. always have and always will
This is a perfect example of how each member collectively brought their own sauce to the BBQ. Without each of their collective parts, it just couldn’t Cook like that. I’m as happy as anyone the legacy is being carried on today, but is just the perfect example of putting the right guys in one room and it just WORKING. Proud to be from Spartanburg.
Saw Marshall Tucker March 16, 1980 in the Uni Dome, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Awesome show, awesome night. Little over thirty days later Tommy was gone. Damn shame. Rip Tommy
There have been a lot of versions of this song since Robert Johnson first recorded but for my money I think this is the best withthe up tempo and hot guitar licks.
Been listening to MTB since the early 70s in high school and actually got to spend time with the band in Meridian Mississippi in 2013. Doug Gray is a class act!!!
Toy and Tommy played so amazing together. Nothing more exciting than Tommy and Toy, side by side, playing the strings of their instruments with their thumbs creating incredible tone and distinctive /creative powerful riffs. Losing Tommy crippled the band.....yes they still played and played well for a few years after, but, just goes to show how valuable Tommy was to the band. Cant think of a bass player as important? GET NASTY!!!!
100% agree. The original, and ONLY MTB died with Tommy. He led the band, and Toy was never the same after losing two brothers within a month or so. Sad
Saw them a couple times in the very early 80s. Always had their vinyl. They had 95,000 dancing at Philly's old JFK stadium 6/20/81. They closed a show (The Roundup) that featured 38 Special, Molly Hatchet, the ABB, and The Outlaws and were NOT outdone. Also saw them in a 2,000 seat theater (The Ritz) in Elizabeth, NJ. Fabulous band! Doug Gray is one of the most underrated male vocalists of his era.
Doug had a great voice up through the 1990's... I saw him do this song at the Wis. State fair when they still had Rusty Milner and Tim Lawter.... They were a sight to behold...... What a great version of the Marshall Tucker Band that was...
Saw them In 1974 at the Bob Carr auditorium Orlando Fl. opened for Elvin Bishop. The Bob Carr held maybe 2000 at that time. And yes it was totally awesome.
Este es mi número favorito de la banda. Me lo sé de memoria desde los 16 años. Ojalá hubiera podido presenciarlo en vivo. Puro sentimiento y electricidad. Nada mejor.
Back in the DAY, almost every band finished with this song...Sending a msg or whatever, this was the last song to many bands and often it was only music and never any words.
One of my all~time favorite videos on UA-cam was the color version of The Marshall Tucker Band Can't You See Live 1973. I have watched it many times. Now when I try to view it I am not allowed to and I see this message: This video contains content from SME, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds. Is there anyway we can still see that video you posted? It is Southern Rock history and we should not be denied its beauty in color. Thanks!
Yeaahhh Baby..Now, put that in your pipe and smoke it !! Love me some MTB,CDB,ARS,ABB,SKYNYRD,and TC3 !!! Hey, ain't it good to be alive and be in Tennessee!!..Now,just keep it loud, fire it on up and give me another shot of JD !!!!! Peace yall ! TL 2015
First album debut road tour? Sounds just like the record! Love Toy's 4 Twin Reverb's stacked - look like two with a MV and two without. Must have split all nearby eardrums.
4:05 sweet, saw them many times "back in the day" and 2 things I always remembered was the encore was Ramblin Man and Doug Gray at 4:22 and Toy shreddin after. OK it's more than 2!
Wow back in the Days when Musicians Played not Programmed Music. Hard to the Soul and Straight to the Gut Classic Southern RocK Would surely be cancelled today. Good Jams like that now long in the Rearview the last 35 40 years Most todays Pop is Putrid Pitiful Pablum as Soulful as a Flat Tire in the Dessert and Talented as 4 Babie3 6 mos old screaming in a Crib
Haven't thought about this song in years. My old band used to do it in the 80's. Music was so good in the 60's 70's 80's. It's a damn shame that most of what sells today are tits, ass, and studio tricks.
I mean, I met the late, very great Toy Talmus Caldwell in Feb 1991, his brother Tommy led the band, awesome bass, Doug Gray wonderful, powerful & soulful voice, Jerry Eubanks could blow like no other, Paul Riddle...adequate, but...can someone please give it up for one of the most underrated, awesome rhythm guitar players in George McCorkle? That man helped make the MTB sound!
That is definitely toys 1958 Les Paul that was stolen this video shows a better pic of the bridge pickup ring is the half inch tall ring of the 50s Not the 3/8 ring of the late 60s 70s norling error also The Binding in the Cutaway does not follow the maple Maple cap like Northern Air Les Paul's and current The Binding thickens and follows the maple cap in the Cutaway been searching high and low for pics of this guitar maybe it will surface one day can at least be recognized as this guitar
Good Lord! Look at the crowd clapping! They weren't hearing the same song! Buford is on upbeat while Cletus is on the down beat (apply white stereotype here)!
I saw them on this tour. Freddie King opened for them. Then Toy walks out. I have never seen better guitarists since that day. Two legends.
😳☠️💀
Man what a time capsule of greatness we're so lucky to have this to watch and listen to...total enjoyment ❤️

LOL. This is THE funniest comment ever on You Tube...

Love seeing the audience jamming to the solo. It was a great time to be a music fan.

Thank you Toy for your service to our country. May you RIP as you gave us so much

Rip Tommy
Thanks. That is a wonderful performance. Thanks for posting it.

Toy's right thumb RULES THE WORLD !!! luv this stuff. 10 thumbs UP
Wow.. Great stuff.. I grew up with this music, (thanks to my parents). And to have this offered now on UA-cam.. Long live the internet! :-)
Great stuff. Saw them a few times in the 70's. One time a triple bill with The Outlaws and The C.D.B. Wonderful shit.
Been listening to MTB since the early 70s in high school and actually got to spend time with the band in Meridian Mississippi in 2013. Doug Gray is a class act!!!
Doug Gray, Toy was the man but I was always more impressed with Grays vocals. The band wouldn't have been what it was without either.
This song kicks some SERIOUS butt! Toy Talmadge Caldwell Jr.!!!
Amen!
This band was incredible
THEY STILL ARE!!!

100% agree. The original, and ONLY MTB died with Tommy. He led the band, and Toy was never the same after losing two brothers within a month or so. Sad
I agree I saw Tommy's last show, and the first show without him.. very emotional gig
Love how Tommy introduced the song and what a great harmony singer he was, didn't realize it until now. Thanks!
Saw the boys in 1976 at Hirsch Memorial Coliseum in Shreveport. One of the greatest memories of my life!
Saw them a couple times in the very early 80s. Always had their vinyl. They had 95,000 dancing at Philly's old JFK stadium 6/20/81. Like everyone else here, I love this music! Thanks for posting!
That guitar playing is fierce.
I wish Doug could still sing like that!
Doug had a great voice up through the 1990's... I saw him do this song at the Wis. State fair when they still had Rusty Milner and Tim Lawter.... They were a sight to behold...... What a great version of the Marshall Tucker Band that was...
Another priceless late ‘50’s Gibson Les Paul Standard in Cherry Sunburst expertly played by the superb Toy Caldwell.
Saw them In 1974 at the Bob Carr auditorium Orlando Fl. opened for Elvin Bishop. The Bob Carr held maybe 2000 at that time. And yes it was totally awesome.
What great SOUTHERN ROCK 😎🎸⚡️
People in crowd are about 70 yrs old now
Get it Dougie, Get it!! (perhaps his finest moment?)
one of the best bands i`ve ever seen
Este es mi número favorito de la banda. Me lo sé de memoria desde los 16 años. Ojalá hubiera podido presenciarlo en vivo. Puro sentimiento y electricidad. Nada mejor.
Back in the DAY, almost every band finished with this song...Sending a msg or whatever, this was the last song to many bands and often it was only music and never any words.
Amazing and FANTASTIC! Thank you for this.
And explain to me again why they aren't in the R&R hall of fame !!!!!
Because that place is a joke.

Did some excellent work with CDB as well
Every time Doug sang was a fine moment!,dang?

Do you, by chance, have this entire concert? Thanks for posting these three songs. I sure miss music like this.
Incredible

great music
Did anyone else notice Matthew Mccounaghey's character in true detective stand there clapping his hands at 0:42? Great band
We drove around listening on the cassette player. When they played the bay area Dana always went backstage and gave them a gram of coke.
My Favorite MTB song..
First album debut road tour? Sounds just like the record! Love Toy's 4 Twin Reverb's stacked - look like two with a MV and two without. Must have split all nearby eardrums.

Toy and Tommy.... both thumb players!
1973 was a very good year( free bird was released )
Toy Caldwell wrote 95% of MTB'S songs.
"White people can dance, you just need to play the right kind of music" Chappelle Show
Wow back in the Days when Musicians Played not Programmed Music. Hard to the Soul and Straight to the Gut Classic Southern RocK

I'm Like # 420! One for the boys....
Total jam band.
love this
Oh hell yeah!
Looks like I'm going to have to fix another one for them. Bad over over bleed... haha!!
Toy Caldwell was an amazing picker.
Remember them as Toy Factory
Smokin!
Haven't thought about this song in years. My old band used to do it in the 80's. Music was so good in the 60's 70's 80's. It's a damn shame that most of what sells today are tits, ass, and studio tricks.
Music was good in the '60's and '70's. That's it.
My generation
Damn.
Nice you can se the future here the struggel betwen Toy and Dough,Toy was the winnwr at last.
That man helped make the MTB sound!
amazing!!! of course this cant compare to modern music, with its pushing a key to create your sound!!
we used to do this tune..its a bit of a workout for the drummer and that's me so that's what i say..but Ive seen worse workouts too so....keep rockin
@nttconductor
the dude didn't even use a pick, mostly just his thumb nail!
Yep . had it on eight track. Stuck a pack of matches under to keep from dragging. 😎
Thats marshall tucker
They definitely aren’t on any amphetamines.
Probablyjust had some cornbread and sweet tea they was thinking about gitting to after the show

ben and holly's little kingdom
Hey Weldon - how bout you take the Weldon off the screen!
Nobody is clapping in time to the music. They are all out of sync. Funny. Toy Caldwell was a helluva guitar player, huh?
Good Lord! Look at the crowd clapping! They weren't hearing the same song! Buford is on upbeat while Cletus is on the down beat (apply white stereotype here)!
They are not clapping in time because they are white. And stoned.
