Firstly…happy (belated) birthday 🎉 secondly, I was shocked at the colour choices of your Rosa Gallery paints, because I bought 12 a few weeks ago, and they’re all EXACTLY the same as the ones you’ve chosen, except for the chromium oxide. Every time you picked one up and read out the name, I was going “no way!” My cat thinks I’m bonkers 😂

Belated happy birthday, Helen! I'm a Roman Szmal user and I really like taking Qor breaks, just turning them loose to see what they want to do with each other - and with Roman. People who like a lot of control over their watercolors get frustrated with Tor, but to me it's like having a houseful of puppies - just less to clean up on the floor. Usually.

I adore Qor, I bought a set of 6 to try and fell in love with their vibrancy. They are pricey, so I treat myself occasionally to a couple of tubes.
Are there any colours you particularly like?

Lovely haul! I love your hauls, painting videos, in short every video. Have literally binged watched your channel since I have found it 🙈 you sketched with the pen so well. Loved the bunny. I prefer a slightly longer riggers. I find them easier to control even though the the brush fibers are like extra long. Can’t wait to see you do a full painting with Qor watercolor and the new Rosa Gallery watercolors!!

You definitely received some beautiful gifts and such a nice variety of different items! I picked up the 12-tube set of QoR paints about a year ago when we were in the US for a long weekend. I really like them, but they’re hard to find here in Canada (or very expensive if you do find them). I hate it when paints explode out of the tube like that. I started having empty half pans at my side whenever I open a new tube now 😅.
I have a few Lamy pens with different nibs, I like them okay. I haven’t crossed to the dark side of collecting expensive pens, so Lamy suit me fine lol.
It's a shame you don't benefit from lower US art prices for some brands! Glad to hear you like them too.
I definitely feel there is a dark side to nice pens, so I think I need to stay on this side for a good long time yet!! 😬

Happy belated birthday, Helen! Your family and friends are truely wonderful. It was great to see all of their lovely gifts. I'm finding the Cor watercolors tempting too but I always talk myself out of buying them because I also already have so many paints. Getting them as a birthday gift from one's husband is a great idea - so thanks for the inspiration.😉 I'm curious about your virdict on the Arches hot pressed paper. It reacts so different from the cold pressed one. Personally, I think it's better for colored pencils than watercolor, but it certainly comes down to the individual painting process as well. As for rigger brush I love to use it for long and thin leaves or blades of grass (with a bit of pressure applied in the middle of the stroke). It's easier to paint them with a rigger than with an ordinary round brush. Anyway, enjoy all of your new supplies!
Yes, I'm definitely very lucky in the friends and family department! Though my husband wouldn't have a clue what to get, so I just choose all my own stuff!
I'm not sure I'd have got the QoR otherwise either, to be honest - or maybe just the 6 pack.
Oh, that makes me especially interested to try out the paper now - haven't used it yet.

Hope you had a marvelous birthday! What a great bunch of new toys to play with. Looking forward to your reviews. I too love the flowy watercolors; QOR is a favorite for that and the rich pigmentation. They market their binder, Aquasol, separately and it can be added to water to give other brands more energy. I love seeing what it'll do to more contained colors. Have fun experimenting!

What fun new supplies!! 😍 Thank you for reading aloud the pigments of the Rosa Gallery paints. It's so interesting to hear what different brands use and mix together. The black grape sounds especially unique and interesting!
Qor has a synthetic oxgall liquid medium that you can add a few drops of to your "clean water" water jar, and paint with. It improves the flow of the paints even further than they already do, as well as slowing down the drying time a bit so you can really work some wonders in wet wash blends. You can use the medium with other paints as well and it will work the same as with Qor paints, albeit not as significantly due to differing binders.

Happy birthday Helen! Tombow brush pen is amazing for line and wash, it’s like soft fude nib fountain pen for me as it’s perfectly waterproof.
Ahh, I've only ever tried them for brush lettering, never line and wash, so something new to consider, thanks!
I hate to say this, but REALLY....the only reason that I bought the 24 Qor set was because I wanted the palette! The paints are good, but really love the bubble mixing areas. Hope you are still enjoying your birthday haul! Oooohh! I JUST ordered the Khadi watercolor paper.

Thanks, that's very kind! At the moment I'm not managing to do art every day, and when I do, it's feeling a bit haphazard. I seem to be flitting from style to style, and medium to medium right now, with no plan and actually feel a bit stuck myself.
I think often I'm led by whatever the latest art materials I've bought are.
One thing I sometimes find useful though is having art books, and looking through, and copying something from one. That way you're forced to use maybe new techniques or styles, that can help you practice or may trigger new thoughts for your own art.

I was watching Toby urbansketch and he uses a lamy fountain pen with carbon ink so I was looking at them. It looks really good. I think I might get one. Happy birthday.

Happy birthday. You will love the Qor paints if you expect how quickly they disperse. Their quin magenta is the best out there. One thing I found with Qor is that they have very little drying shift, which I really like. I have found that on hot press paper, the colors don’t look as bright. However, hot press is ideal for pen & ink and if you have ever used liquid watercolors, I think it’s good for those. It’s also good for gouache because gouache sits on top of the paper.

It was funny that I was browsing new watercolors brand that I discover while watching this video, and then hear you talking about it! It is Rosa gallery! I was pleased to find this Ukrainian brand as Ukrainian myself, now I am eager to try it out. The price is pleasant too and now I see that artists do appreciate it, no reason not to go for it

Happy belated birthday. Very nice selection of presents. I enjoy the chromoflow pencils but I will warn you when sharpening, don’t sharpen to a sharp point because they will break.

I went to the Moleskin shop in Liverpool Street station on Sunday and it was a complete wishlist dream! So many beautiful notebooks and sketchbooks, pens etc - I love Moleskin sketchbooks I already have and it was torture to see everything there in front of me and not be able to buy anything (weight/bag restrictions for flying back to Scotland 😢)
