Those inks, honestly your videos are the best with your showing why we need something and how we can use it. So dangerous, so encouraging. Love it and your deliver is perfection.
Oh wow, the ink swatches are so pretty, wild and beautiful! Loved the uniqueness of the Isaro w/cs, İ have never seen or heard of them before so big thank you!
Thankyou Helen - find it very peaceful and meditative when you’re swatching - as well as interesting! 😊 And thankyou for the info re the Mitchell Albala book - just bought a copy😊
I’m so excited and have so much to say! 😂 Acrylic inks are my favourite medium! The ones with mica, while beautiful, are a PITA to get ready to use…I had a word in my head but lost it so had to make up a sentence 😂 You’re supposed to mx them by rolling then between your palms so you don’t get bubbles but I’m very impatient so shake them. Missy Dunaway has the most beautiful travel sketchbooks done with acrylic ink and I have her book and have taken her classes on Creativebug and they are great. I consider Tracy Verdugo the ultimate guide to acrylic inks, and she has a free abstract class here on UA-cam which I think you would find very enjoyable and a great way to loosen up, she also has a lot of other videos if you get hooked 😁I’ve also been to Tracy’s workshops and consider her a friend because she is just as lovely in person as she appears in her videos…highly recommend her! I think I need some of those Isaro watercolours now!
This is wonderful, thank you! I will probably be an energetic shaker! Thanks so much for the recommendations - I've not really seen many people using the inks before, so can't wait to go and look these up!
Hi Helen - your videos are dangerous! The Isaro paints looked so unusual and lovely so I splashed out and picked out 14 of the more unusual colours. I absolutely love them and I am finding them very inspiring. The pearlescent colours are amazing when they catch the light. Thank you for your videos as always. Fiona
Yes, well, got carried away with all the lovely colours. Now I just have to keep using them! I really like your follow up video of what you have used and liked or not.
Thank you! So many intriguing possibilities. I love my Isaro palette - maybe I’m imagining it, but it seems more luminous than my others somehow. 😂 I’ve had my F&W inks forever (years)- they are still in great shape. Missy Dunaway uses these for her classes on Creativebug. She’s not precious about them, lays them on heavy with brushes and nibs with glorious results. 😊
I use the white fw ink but now I can see so much potential for the colours in my watercolour paintings. You’re right, they really are delicious, my daughter walked in just as you were saying that and she commented you sound just like me when I talk about my art supplies 😂
@@helencryer I use it to highlight areas and paint details on the birds and animals I paint, it works really well on painted pebbles too for details. It works well as it’s so opaque although on the pebbles it sometimes needs 2 coats xx
That's kinda funny... i bought the bird book too after seeing it in katies video... i love that it is so big.... most similar books are quite tiny so you can carry it easily for bird watching....
That bird book 😍 As soon as I saw that landscape book I thought ooh I wonder if the library has that. They do! I downloaded it immediately! Now I need to go but some acrylic ink 😢😅
These are all lovely. I have been on the French about the acrylic inks, but your swatches have convinced me to try them. I love Isaro paints and these are colors I do not have - yet. Thanks for sharing😘
Really useful and interesting Helen. 🙏🏻 Just got into the FW inks and have some in my Cult Pens basket so it was very helpful to see you swatch them. They are a great mixed media addition. Loving the Powdery pink watercolour, it’s one of my favourite colours. I’ve also kept all my pencil tins after organising them into pencil cases, makes it so much easier to use and a great use for empty tins. You are the Queen of organised swatching. Loving the folders too. Thank you 🙏🏻 looking forward to seeing the revamped tin. 😍🤗😍
I live about two hours from Dakota Art Pastels in Washington state (truly THE place to get professional quality pastels so of course have been sucked into soft pastels). Mitch Albala teaches there every year...usually 3 day workshops and he welcomes all media. I hope to take one of his workshops, although I feel I need a bit more practice to be "worthy of his class (he specifically says his landscape classes are best for intermediate and advanced painters, and I'd put myself in the "advanced beginners" level at this point. I've heard he is a fantastic teacher from the staff. (& I have the book and workbook too)
Thank you! I love your calming videos. The perfect mix of gentle delivery and your excitement to try out your supplies! 😊 Could you let us know how you get on with the spray paint on your tins, please? I have 1 or 2 I'd quite like to try to paint white, but wasn't sure if the paint would adhere ok ir just flake off easily.
Isaro are always a bit surprising, not always what you expect. I have their chartreuse as my green gold of preference, and their steel bleu which is lovely and thankfully not as mica filled as other brands would be, I like the subtle nature of the colours. A lovely haul, the more earthy inks are really lovely…
I also ordered that gorgeous bird book after watching Katie Moody. I just fell in love with all the beautiful illustrations. I think I probably paid a bit over the odds for it tbh but it was a treat to myself and your flick through has reaffirmed that I'm going to love it😍 I have some Isaro paints, they are lovely, especially Boreal Blue........I'm sure you'll enjoy using them! Another fab haul, thank you for sharing❤️
Another fun order!! Love the Holbein gouache (of course) and I’ve often wondered about the Isaro watercolours! That landscape book has been on my wish list for quite some time.
I just bought the ugliest color Royal Talens sketchbook for the exact same reason! First, it was the cheapest color, and second, I wouldn’t feel like I had to *save* it for something special. I love your videos! Your voice is so soothing.
@@helencryerThere are very specific orange colors that I like, but this one is NOT one of them! Haha! I actually bought the yellow one a while ago and ended up liking the color and it is still in the plastic. I have SO MANY that I haven't touched, but I didn't have a square one. Like I really needed the square one. What is wrong with me?? LOL
I really enjoy the FW inks as well. It's great to throw them down in a sketchbook and work over them. I am going to see if matte medium will give the page a little more tooth for colored pencil. I have heard it is much the same as using pastel ground. That might be a fun experiment on your end as well?
Oh that's great to hear you enjoy them!! Interesting! I'm not sure yet - I'd like to play with thinner washes in mixed media, I think. I'm going to have a play today.
thanks for the video, particularly the book flick throughs :-) btw don't be hard on yourself re your copy of Steal Like an Artist falling part - the very same thing happened to me - not long after I bought it and before I got very far into the book- frustrating as I agree it seems a useful book
Unboxing! I love these videos! What you said about sketchbooks becoming precious and that it becomes difficult to use them freely, I've had that happen to me in the past and then I'd just start on a new sketchbook. Never figured out how to combat that (the color of the books won't help, I like lots of colors). I also really like seeing the comparison of the new pants verses the paints you currently have stored in your Big Book of Pigments!
Oh well, I can live in hope!! Actually, because I did a load of exercises where I didn't like the outcomes on my art course, I've been using that A4 cartridge paper sketchbook (it's what I did the rough ink drawings in, in the video), and feel pretty relaxed about that one now too. Big Book of Pigments! Love it!!
Since you like drawing birds, might I suggest The Laws Guide to Drawing Birds, by John Muir Laws. It focuses on structure, color, position and bird varieties more than any other that I have found. Also, I appreciate your complete flip-through of books. I’m much more likely to purchase a book if I’ve had a really good look at it before I make my decision.
A lovely haul,I loved the Isaro Nordmann green, beautiful. Those inks look like great fun. I have the Holbein gouache on my Christmas list🤞.Do you have to have special paper for gouache or can I get away with my watercolour paper? 🤔

Very nice video! Enjoyed seeing yoyr new colors. You have a beautiful setup for yoyr swatches. Thanks for sharing🎉❤
Thank you!
That was very nice to watch. Thank you.
Thanks ever so much!
Tha landscape painter's workbook looks very inspiring and useful. What a nice haul. Looking forward to all the videos of lovely creations from them.
I'm really pleased with it, yes!
I really like your paintings with the acrylic inks
Thanks!
Acrylic ink should only be used with a dip pen. If you use it in a fountain pen you’ll ruin the feed and nib. Love the colours of the inks
Great, thanks very much!

I have really been enjoying some of the Isaro paints since getting them!
I love all of your art hauls! They are the most descriptive and really have helped me decide what products might work for me
I'm glad - thanks!
I like watching people going through there new art supplies. Today I like to say I will be buying the steal like an artiest so thanks for the tip
