Such a tragedy. Karen had accomplished so much in her short life. You see everyone(including myself) having opinions on who should have done more or placing blame. Obviously Richard loves his sister, and you can see the pain he is in. I only wish, something in her life was different and she would still be here. I wish I could just hug her and make her feel better. You just have to wonder how painful and alone she must have felt. That disease is just a horrible thing to see. So drastically devastating the body and I imagine also the mind. I think the whole solo album would have been a positive thing for her. There’s a few songs that could have been hits. And Richard only released those songs after mother passed. I can only imagine what else she could have done in life. I think she would have been even greater! The knowledge about anorexia was in early stages, when Karen died...maybe nowdays doctors know more about it, but despite this....it is still quite hard to cure it....and sadly, till to this day...many victims are dying from it 😞

All because Society demands you look like a Death Camp or Gulag survivor. You have to be thin to look attractive. Yuk! Some girls and women are so thin you can,t see them when they stand sideways. You shove that you have to thin attitude, into your teenage daughter your going to give her a serious complex. If the person feels they can't control anything else in their life they damn sure can control what food stays in their body. But it WAS a period of time when famous woman were held to ridiculous standards for body type. I still believe the family was ultimately responsible for starting her down that path. Much like Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears. The cash cow must perform. Have ZERO empathy for their families. THEY did this.

Karen was a great singer, possibly the greatest, but she was just the singer. EVERYTHING else on those Carpenter recordings, the song choices, the writing, arranging, producing, multi tracking, keyboard playing, etc...was ALL Richard. Karen sang like an angel, but Richard was the one who created all those big, puffy, white clouds that Karen floated on.

I'm as big of a Karen Carpenter fan as anyone, but on their (and her) albums, she was the singer. She didn't play any of the instruments, she didn't write or arrange any of the songs, and she didn't produce or engineer any of the recording sessions. Richard did most of that stuff (with some help, of course). So when you say it was 90% Karen and 10% Richard, I'm the one who's laughing. Actually, I'm shaking my head in disbelief. 😟

First of all, she played drums AND bass guitar on a couple of their songs on the Offering/Ticket To Ride album AND she did co-produce on some of their albums (the album covers themselves list her as one of the co-producers, duh! AND she was stiffled by TPTB around her to stay with A&M only, AND God forbid that Quincy Jones himself came in on the last week before her solo album was to be released, AND did some rearranging to some of the songs on her album, less than 24 hrs before it would have been released, BUT she was STILL pressured to shelve the album, even after Quincy was 100% behind it and lent a helping hand to get it out there to the fans, AND I could go on and on... What does this date mean?
