- Antique Firefighter axe restoration with broken edge, handle, and spike. See me restore this old fireman tool and decorate it with a custom laser engraving.
ABOUT THE FIREFIGHTER AXE
This Is an old firefighter axe that I bought for around 10$ from an auction a few years back. This rusty tool has been in my garage since I bought it and it have “begging” me for a repair every time, I saw it. I felt that now it is the right time to a restoration video.
Did you know that a firefighter axe is one of the most common tool among firefighters. Firemen often use two kind of axes, the flat head fire axe, and the pick head fire axe, the one with a spike like this one I restore in the video. They often use them to gain entry thru a door, window, or chop holes in walls to gain ventilation after a fire.
ABOUT THE AXE RESTORATION
I started by removing handle from the axe. This handle is secured with two irons who holds the axe handle steady on place and at the same time these irons protect the handle. I sandblasted the firefighter axe with high-pressure 125PSI. I used aluminium oxide as my sandblasting media this time.
The edge on the axe head had sign of many year in service, so I was forced to cut off ¾” of the edge and grind a new edge. A firefighter axe doesn’t need to be super sharp - just need to be strong. So I grinded a new 30-degree angle. I did also repair the spike, there was missing 1 inch after many years of hard use. I used stick welding to add axtree iron to the spike and I grinded it down to look nice and clean.
After I had done all the repairs, I hardened the edges of the axe and did a quick cleaning job after the heating process.
I Added a laser engraving on the cheek of each side of the axe head. The motive for the laser engraving was an Native American chief skull head. The engraving was measuring approx. 2x2 inch.
I also decorated the front iron on the axe handle with the text “Semper Paratus” which is the firefighter’s motto and means “always ready”.
I gave the edge and the spike a nice polish and hand crafted an axe handle out of some beautiful smoked oak tree that I had in my shop. I put the axe together and I gave the handle some Nordic teak oil.
I am really satisfied with this Awesome Restoration. I think that this came very good, and the engravings make a tough feeling to this old tool!

I don't know anything about this guy except that he's obviously a genius. Is there anything he CAN'T do? I doubt it. Amazing.
Oh thank you so much Jefferey 🍺💖👌 have a great weekend buddy
He cant make a bad video thats for sure😂
He don't know anything about you, this guy who's obviously a genius
I bet he can't birth a baby
@@cumminsrocks1 nope, but with those tools, he could probably build one.
My son and I love watching your videos every night. He is learning to talk and at the beginning says broken and at the end says fixed. Awesome restorations indeed! Look forward to every video!
thank you so much I am glad to hear that you like to watch my videos. All the best to you and your family 😊
Being in the fire service and seeing a lot of axes during my time I'm excited u did a restoration on a fire axe it brings memory's when I was growing up around the firehouse
My only complaint is that he sharpened the edge but outside of that I found it really cool even being a younger guy in the field I still like to see the older equipment back when firemen were badass
I’d like to see a Pulaski Wildland Fire Axe on here someday too.
I am sorry to hear that your house burned down. My house was almost a fire house once because there was a small electrical fire. I hope you and your family were able to recover :)
I've been a Volunteer FF in the US for more than 30 years. That is the coolest axe I've seen. Great Job!!
Thanks for sharing Chopper 😉👍
As a Firefighter in the US, one word. AWESOME 👌
Thank you for your service. My county is stupid and won’t let good people become firefighters or cops. Even just on a voluntary basis
@@DanaOrtiz Yeah it definitely seems like it’s near impossible to enter into many job sectors anymore. No one wants to take on new people and train them, instead they want all sorts of “past experience” and certifications out of nowhere.
As a person that likes to restore and repurpose items to avoid excess, skills like this amaze me. It is satisfying to see process before and after, the perfection was unexpected. He is a great artist. Thank you for sharing your talent. 🇺🇸🌹
Thank you so much, i really appreciate it 👍
I agree. He never overdoes restoration. He simply enhances original beauty
Couldn’t agree more 👍🏽
Woooo I love it! I am a retired paramedic and have worked with firefighters many times and it was an honor. They are my heroes. What a beautiful restoration. I continue to be impressed with your tools, your talent, and your assistants. Thanks for another great video. We miss you! 😁🙋🏻♀️
Ahhhh thanks you so much Alex. ❤️ We love paramedics too 😉 very glad you liked it. Have a great evening, cheers Martin
‘SEMPER PARATUS,’ = ‘ALWAYS READY.’ This is also the motto of the U.S. Coast Guard.
75 like in 2 minutes.... After 1-2hours its gonna be thousands of like... Keep it up dude...
Naaah, those likes are from patreon guys.

That was very moving. Firefighters are heroes, and this is an axe for a hero.

Looks fantastic. I love the laser engraving too. My dad's cousin was a firefighter in the days of his youth, amongst having numerous other jobs and skills. He would've loved this axe.
Thanks a lot for sharing 👍

I loved the hour of hand filing video edit. That was so cool. Your videos are even better when there is video editing I haven't seen before.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, I never knew restoring a firefighter axe could be so intense! Watching you bring this axe back to life with such precision and care was truly inspiring. It's amazing to think that this tool was once used to save lives, and now thanks to your skill and dedication, it's been given a new lease on life.
Beautiful job, true craftsmanship. 👍

A blank canvas that comes to life. Watching the old become alive is so refreshing. From beginning to end and including the added musical selections I’m just for a time in this beautiful transformation of your craft. Bravo 👏🏼
thank you so much Bridgett :)
Как всегда, отличное видео. Приятно смотреть за работой мастера.👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks buddy :)
Далеко не каждый сможет проделать такую работу, ещё меньше кто может это так интересно показать! Отдельные позитивные вставки очень радуют! Как например, герои следящие на пескоструйной обработкой или весёленький карандаш ;-)
thank you for your comment 😊
I haven’t commented in a while Martin. Time gets the better of us sometimes, but I always watch and enjoy your restorations. This one was special for me. My father was a firefighter in Baltimore City for 35 years. He started his career in 1966. I remember seeing these all over the fire apparatus and they were ALWAYS shiny. I’m guessing back then that was part of the job…keeping your tools pristine even in the worst conditions. I appreciate your love for your hobby. I’m sure many wouldn’t have that kind of patience. This brought back a lot of memories of my childhood and when my dad was such a young man.
thank you so much for your comment I really appreciate it. Yes I think you are right that firefighters are very serious at keeping their tools in best possible condition ❤ yous father was a great hero, I have the deepest respect for those men and women who risk their life for others
Another piece of art from Martin.
Your videos take me to another world.
Thank you so much 👍
Mais um bom video parabéns !! E esse machado ficou muito bonito

Fantastic job bringing a dead tool back to life. Every time I watch a video, I think this was the best. Once again, you've proven me wrong. This fire axe turned out beautiful. It looks like something that should be ready to go with a fire truck. Thank you for a wonderful restoration. Epic work! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for watching and for your kind words I really appreciate it 👍🙂 cheers buddy🍺🍺🍺

My workplace looks like "Sh** now ;-)
@@AwesomeRestorations it looks so cute and funny
Really good production on these videos and love to see the end results!
Interested to know why you chose not to go for a new hickory shaft for the axe, though.
Thanks and Good question! ... I actually improvise these videos and do what I feel for in the moment ;-) I just felt for the smoked oak because it looks so good with oil on. But Hickory is a MUCH better choice - its so much stronger. 👌 thanks for watching :)
@@AwesomeRestorations Thanks for taking the time to reply, broseph! Love your work.
The King speaks!! I listened to that NordVPN sponsorship clip just to watch AR break character. 😂
The restoration was just added gravy.

ha ha Thank you :) 😄😄😄👌
You remind me a lot of my uncle, I mean that in the nicest way possible. Him and I used to bond over fun little projects we’d create with each other, I really miss him but watching your videos gives me comfort in these sad times💖

I'm nearly speechless after watching this one Martin! Wow in it's purest sense! The graphics, bluing the steel, all that you did made that old fireman's axe a masterpiece. Semper Paratus indeed (Always Prepared). Awesome stuff brother. Thanks for speaking, your English is better than a lot of Americans! :) Bravo sir once again. God bless. Rev. D.
thank you so much I am so happy you liked it 😊

That is an excellent restoration. You and "Screws and Tools" are the best tool and implements restorers on You Tube. Bravo!

Honestly, i am so delighted people like you exist, instead of just throwing it away after assuming things like this are unsalvageable, in comes a man that takes an Axe for example and breathes new life into it.
Thanks for your kind words 😉👍
