Welcome to the Big Boss Rank Guide! Check out the description for time-stamped sections if you need them, and here's a basic list of the requirements. More details are found in the description. I worked really hard on this video, so I hope you enjoy it! 😀 1. Complete the game on any difficulty. 2. Complete the Tanker-Plant scenario on Extreme or European Extreme. 3. Complete the Tanker-Plant scenario in under 3 hours. 4. 0 Continues 5. No more than the 3 mandatory alerts. 6. 0 Kills 7. 0 Rations 8. You must take less than 10 life bars of damage on Extreme or 9.3 life bars of damage on European Extreme. 9. Less than 700 ammo used 10. Radar must be turned OFF. 11. You must destroy fewer than 60 mechanical units. 12. No Special Items used
For those having trouble. OLGA fight can be looped the way in the fight, but if you drop the loop - you can pre aim where she is standing behind either the far right boxes, or the far left boxes, wait for her to shoot a burst (usually 3 bullets) hold L2 to lean how and put a bullet in her. let go of L2 fast, and wait for another burst. and repeat. It's a simpler loop and the pre aim takes a little longer - but it works. FORTUNE, the only way to really survive is using the box trick. Do the back and forth the same way the video shows, but bounce between the barrels. If a barrel gets hit, avoid it until it explodes. Save the containers on both sides for when fortune reloads, as it can mess up the rhythm of your back and forth juking. FATMAN, follow the video - however place claymores around after you tranq his head. if one hits, it'll save some ammo. Also do your best to chase him down. if he starts a timer, it's never enough time to defuse more than 2 bombs. So freeze bombs when you knock him down if the opportunity arises. After fatman SAVE - In the guide, he saves after the fatman fight. I highly recommend saving before the harrier (or at least after ames) instead. The stretch between fatman is tough and you really don't want to replay it over and over before the harrier. especially as the harrier can bug and kill you through walls. It's better to fight fat man multiple times and bank a better much better save point than doing the whole stealth stuff over and over just to die to a glitch over and over. HARRIER, his missiles sometimes go through walls. The tutorial recommends using the wall up the stairs, however it's not very safe due to the bug. Stand around 3/4 up the main stairs (near the start) and put on the box. It's a little more consistent and faster as you can shoot more. You will have to hide behind the grey box downstairs when he starts machine gunning. SAVE after harrier - If you saved before the harrier instead of after fatman, I'd recommend playing out the next part until the vamp fight. This section is pretty easy except for the tricky jump after the harrier (which you can go down the pipe) and hitting the control panel with the nakita (which might kill the president). But everything is simple, its just scary. Saving here can give you much more breathing room between vamp and tengus. VAMP - if you drop the loop, quickly shoot the same pillar to make him come back up and do the same stuff. SWIMMING - the low mine near the door has a big hit box. Hold B/circle instead of tapping to get more control and shrink your own hitbox. TENGU 1 - the door skip is difficult. You can instead tranq everyone by in this entire room by keeping max distance and peeking over boxes, then crouch (not prone) in the middle front side of the box the tengu are taking cover behind. Use your coolant to spray the sword tengu and snake will do most of the work. You may need to switch to your M9 and hit the shooter on the stairs, or the shooter up top. If you get hit, you can regen your health quickly by switching to the m9 and not aiming. Tengu 1 is hard and this strat will still take a few tries. Also it takes a long time. like 5 minutes. When the tengu stop spawning, you can spray the box to choke the shooters snake can't hit and deal with them yourself. TENGU 2 - for some reason bumping into snake on your way to grab the first guy breaks the glitch/skip. Go all the way around him. SOLIDUS - make your save when the fight starts rather than when the game prompts. He is pretty easy to learn if you can fight him back to back. Also the cutscenes/codecs are long and you won't get carpal tunnel in your hands after doing the insane mashing every time you fight him. (even if you have 1hp for the fight - it's enough, as he gives you a lot of opportunities to crouch and heal)
It took me all day today and I finally got it. I had to come up with some of my own strategies but I finally got that mother fucking door skip. The worst part was I saved it after the first torture so every time I died I had to go back to that stupid place.
With the help of your guide, Perfect Stealth’s guide, and coming up with some of my own strategies, I finally did it. It took me like 4 days and really took over my life. I’m probably a worse person because of this mode but it’s done. So satisfying. Thanks man. Def the hardest challenge of my gaming career. Been playing this since 2001 and I never even attempted this craziness before. I honestly think Fatman was the worst part.
The randomness of the Fatman fight is what makes it so awful. I really think that's the peak of difficulty in the game, and it gets significantly easier and less random after that point. Thanks for following along, and good job completing this tough challenge!
I'm doing this right now dude, using both guides you mentioned and still changing things ever so slightly to suit my style a little better or to be safer 😂
Just want to say thank you for this amazing guide! I think it took me about 20 hours overall with save reloading but I achieved Big Boss and it was something else! Appreciate the effort and skill gone into this and will move onwards to MGS3 and use your guides for sure! ☺️
Thank you so much for your guide. Without your help and strategies it wouldn't have been possible. When I saw the requirements to get the BigBoss title trophy, I said I wasn't going to do it but Metal Gear is my favorite game series and I said I'm going to do it no matter what it costs me because the series really deserves all my time playing. Thanks again
You’re very welcome! To be honest, I felt the same way looking at the trophy list, and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do it, but with enough time and practice, it’s possible!
My dude! JUST finished mgs1 elite with your guide. When the time comes, you'll be my savior again 😂 first have to go through every other trophy. Gonna attempt this last. Should be a cakewalk with your guide 🤝
My brother, I spent the whole day with you, started at 1PM (GMT+1) and finishing the game right now around 2 AM You carried me all day, I kinda went crazy around 8PM, I didn't manage to beat fatman until then and everything went 'kinda' smooth after that Didn't comment on the MGS Fox guide but you carried me there too :) Thanks a lot for the work Have a nice day and I hope your channel will blow up that's some damn quality guide
I'm amazed that you could get it all done in 13 hours! That's really impressive! Congratulations on finishing this beast. I'm finishing up the MGS3 Foxhound Rank video, so expect that to come out soon!
@@MaskedMatador Thanks, I'll probably watch it out of curiosity but I won't need it since I manage to get it by Myself several times already, mgs 2 was really the scary one :)
For anyone struggling with Harrier, here is how i recommend going about it. 1. Start, pick up the launcher try to get two shots in and then aim vertically then shoot right before he flies above, normally it will hit. 2. He will then go into the distance as shown in the video, but i highly recommend not doing the ledge trick here. Sit by the little tower/wiener shaped object, when you see the flash in the distance shoot at the harrier. Then quickly hug against the opposite side of the wiener object. You should be safe there. 3. After that the Harrier will fly to the side you’ll be facing. Lock on and let him have it. If you dont do enough damage he won’t trigger the carpet bomb that destroys part of the stage. He’ll instead likely do the heat attack, which is not cool. 4. Once the cutscene starts for the carpet bomb, do as he does in the video, drop down over the railing. 5. Run to the safe spot, now this is where my lunch was eaten by this boss. Be mindful of where the Harrier is if possible. Just because you duck and hug the wall doesnt mean you’re invunerable. For the attacks he does WAY out in the distance you can still get hit if not tucked in the right spot. I found more luck tucking myself against the wall closer to the building. Knowing where to tuck yourself depending on the location of his distant attacks will take practice, but you WILL get it. 6. For his 100 missile strike do exactly as he does in the video 7. For the machine gun part do exactly as he does in the video as well This may not be worded the best but if someone is struggling and looking for reasons the Harrier may be acting awkward I hope this provided some assistance. 57:56 Have a great day!
This is my favorite game of all time. This is the last trophy I need. With this guide, I feel confident. I'll get it! Much thanks. It'll be the first thing I've gotten 100% on since Ground Zeroes 😂
It’s very interesting that MGS2 is your favorite! I’m sure you’ll be able to do it. Please let me know if you have any questions while following along with my guide.
god damnit you did it once again Masked Matador. You not only helped me through MGS1, but now you've helped me through Big Boss on MGS2. I have a few achievements left to clean up but I couldn't have done it without you. Subscribed my friend, and thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Bro, Fatman is taking so much of my time. Spent 6 hours trying to beat him the other night to no avail. I came so close a couple times, but I just get so shaky when he's on his last sliver of health I just crack under pressure. Gotta keep tryin, I guess.
Amazing guide (including your MGS1 one!). There is a safer way to beat vamp 1 (though it may take longer). Just go to the top right of the room and lay prone facing southwest. Then shoot him in the head when he crouches down to hit you. He won't attack you in that spot aside from when he slowly walks toward you.
53:00 if you first shoot the guard like in the video and then shoot the other regular guard thats patrolling you can get by and grab the PSG-1 without him seeing you on the way out. Main Problem is he got an assault guard behind him and if u take too long they call the assault team off so you waste even more time. By shooting the second patrolling guard you get him out of your way long enough to make the same way out without him even turning the corner.
Considering that time is looking so tight that no matter what I'll be late on the 3hour limit I went back to save #1 Strut A. Now from 32 minutes I went batshit fast and flawless right from all bomb disposal to past fortune to Fatman start and saved.... Guess what it still took 33 damn minutes and that full pelt all the way!! So my previous Fatman start time was 1:07:00 get there now and the save is at 1:03:00. What in the actual...... !!!??? Saved 4 minutes by not getting the SOCOM suppressor or extra boxes or making game pauses.. I thought I'd have at least a 10 minute Headstart but no. Uggh.. Just maybe I can restart completely and cut tanker by a couple of minutes but that is still strict timing for me. I thought I'd free up more than afew minutes. This extra 4 to 5 minutes will only make it from impossible to maybe scraping thru with major luck. Plus redoing Fatman and harrier far out.
Great guide, appreciate the help. I would just add when anyone's doing the plant part and at a node (specialy at the start been a mandatory one) becareful not to mash button when it goes to the option menu as I noticed I turned radar on by mistake
Bro your videos are awesome just finished my plat trophy on MGS1 gonna start MGS2 today and use your video. @everyone subscribe to this man if you like MGS - he is a BEAST.
From the L Perimeter to the death of Solidus Snake I've studied this guide and realise from my save time at 1:58:00 it will sit on 2:48:00 by then plus end credit skips to the scorescreen so it'll be tight as, but I'll have just enough time Oof! ;)
@@MaskedMatador awesome, thanks for the guide mate, I think I could have made it there at about 60 mins but my harrier fight lasted like 4x longer than yours and I also messed up the segment between fatmana nd the harrier, put the guards into caution and they took forever to go back into normal mode.
Hey man, I’ve been following all your FF pixel remasters and recently your sea of stars walkthrough. I would LOVE to follow you through a baldurs gate 3 platinum walkthrough if that’s in the pipeline?
I got the plat back when this came out on PS3 and the extreme run still gives me PTSD, just wait until you get to the Ray fight...I'm not gonna bother with this game again I'll stick to 1 and 3
thanks for making this, loved your mgs1 guides! do you have any additional tips for the guard rush in the tanker section? i absolutely cannot for the life of me get past it and it's so frustrating! i can get to the section so fast now because of just how many times i've had to restart 😭 i'm absolutely horrendous with shooting on a controller in intense situations, so i feel like me getting the bb achievement might not happen LOL edit: i managed it! i moved my first save way up to just after it because this fight took me a shocking amount of time - i'm much better and make so many less mistakes in the stealth sections than the fights where i need to be somewhat precise
In Strut D - Sediment Pool one of my bombs isn't showing in the same place as you (under the stairs) for some reason it is over on the right hand side (towards the exit to Strut E)... No idea why. I'm on the same difficulty as you obviously...
I played on New Game + (just loading a completed save file), but that bomb's position will change if you are either selecting a brand new game or if this is a new game + 2, 3, etc.
I cant survive the very first camera at 3:50, i roll over and over again and the thing keep seeing me. I am afraid to get past it and be killed by Olga
Help. Im shooting fast at the Rays but the middle one always gets the laser beam off. Than the right when i get last head hit on the right he gets missile volley off before i reposition.
@@bhdtt54gh6 but finally i did it. You have to get down on the ground when the harrier is shooting and not lean against the wall. That was the key. Next step vampire ))
It is a measure of how much damage you take. 1 life bar of damage is equal to going from full health to dead. The game automatically refills your health after boss fights, but you still don’t want to take a lot of damage within the boss fights.
Mate sorry for all the comments, but just have to say after I went back to my 32 minutes save file. From my not so great 1Hr 58, that I'm at Fatman now at 1 HOUR.. so I'm only 20 minutes behind your run. :)
@@MaskedMatadorhey mate. I'm at the Rays now at 2:16:51 within all the stats... The one that's abit tight is Ammo Used coming in at 537. That's with 8 stingers X 20 RAYS so 160 stingers? That'll be 697 just within the limits after the rays. So close for that hahaha. But I'm trying to follow your guide. After the initial three left and right attacks, dodge hit twice kill aim at right one X2 kill ( it's right after that I'm finding that the additional Ray on the left is not coming after me, he'll do machine gun or rockets allowing a different Ray to land stuffing up getting the easy loop to get locked in afterwards. I'll keep trying though as I find the loop will still happen occasionally even when I'm out of place. But then when I risk hitting the left side ray available too much he'll be like cowering to sideways and another ray out of the loop will drop in on me I did get to 11 Rays left last night so I'm definitely on to something woohoo!!!
@@MaskedMatadorThankyou :) I definitely Will get it. After over 4 hrs of failing tonight it finally clicked on me that I absolutely Have to hit the "trickshot" Ray 1st on his *left* knee ( Right knee to Us ) that's near instant after the previous ray dies from the headshot.. because I was shooting "any" knee it's absolutely correct that it sends all the rays off into random crap patterns. So when I play again tomorrow I'm bound to get it right. - funny thing me playing random AF earlier I actually got 14 of the buggers right upto C05H..
We just know that we are on track for the Big Boss rank knowing that we have no kills, the right number of alerts, low damage, low ammo usage, etc. We have confirmation we are meeting the required metrics, so we’re in good shape for the Big Boss rank.
That’s a good question, and in some ways you could say yes and no. A boss is typically an encounter that has a certain amount of enemy health that you need to deplete, and your health is restored afterword. Tengu 1 is supposed to have you eliminate a certain number of guards before moving on (like the guard rush toward the end of the Tanker), and that is kind of like depleting an unseen boss health bar. However, you do not get your health back after Tengu 1 like you would with a boss fight. Tengu 2 is completed through a certain amount of time and many other factors being calculated in the background, not just damage you do to enemies. In that sense, it is more of a timed sequence like the Fortune fight. Your health is also not restored during the Tengu 1 or 2 sections, but it is restored after the Fortune fight. In total, you could say that Tengu 1 and 2 do not count as a boss fight, but when you go directly into the Metal Gear Ray fight, that is a continuation of the sequence with the same amount of health, so perhaps it is either one long boss fight divided into three sections or a timed sequence followed by a traditional boss fight.
@Kerplunk-tj8pa Yes, that counts against the total number of life bars of damage you receive, so you want to try to avoid taking as much damage as possible during those sections.
It depends on which playthrough you are on. The first playthrough vs loading a completed game changes the location as well as changing the difficulty, so it’s not random, but there are a set number of different locations it could be in. I think there’s one on the upper floor.
I hate that there is no rations Fighting Olga took me 100 tries to finally beat her. Fatman was a living nightmare damn near through my controller. I’m not looking forward to fighting the jet or the rays. No rations suck. Solidus will probably be a walk in the park compared to the rest of the game. Vamp is horrible to
Hey mate.. I'm trying to pass the Harrier battle. Done it twice but then stuffed up and fell lol.. plus another 30 odd failures just tonight on the Harrier . What I DON'T understand is that top left safe T - JUNCTION where your meant to be 100% safe from that 1 missile he does saying "I'll let you go down in style"??? Whether he says it or not I'm sure too. But the left alcove of that safe area I've been almost had him done and I'll hide there AND I didn't shoot back before ducking for cover there and his dumb Missile actually 1 shots me to game over so wtf is that about!? I know to be in that one good area for dodging the barrage, and the top left safe spot with the rightmost alcove works wonders for dodging that one off big missile. But the left is either bugged or I'll have to jump over the nearby right side fence to avoid this dumb unavoidable leftside 1 shot crap that is definitely not 100% safe at all. I thought maybe it depends on his angle or something but it really shouldn't matter???
I think that's happened to me too. If I remember correctly, you need to be pressed up against the wall to block the missile. Simply crouching down there isn't enough to stop the damage.
@@MaskedMatador it's cool though. Thanks. I was pressed and crouching but the game let him anyway. But I used the right fence to jump each open left missile shot so he couldn't stuff me up again.. and I beat him. I got to the Perimeter area just after the harrier and said that's it I'm making my Vamp 1 Save here instead because it's close enough and saves me stuffing up and redoing the blasted harrier hahaha.. oh at the Perimeter area near those windows? The save #4.. my time is 1:58:00 so I guess I gotta be extra sharp til the end but should be enough time??
You really don’t have any extra time to spare going forward. The time limit is 3 hours, and it took me one hour from the harrier fight to beat the game, so you’ll be cutting it close. Hopefully you’ve been using new save slots instead of saving over old data. You could always go back and redo areas to see if you can do them faster.
@@MaskedMatador thanks. Yea I'm using the seperate save for each spot I progress which I've seen people doing that on the YT guides. I hope the credits if unskippable like MGS1 Won't count towards the time like that one too. I have heard that pausing does & doesn't stop time as well? Earlier on the run I was pausing between watching guides. It's definitely possible I could go back even 2 or 3 saves either way to try to shave off some time and surely save myself like 15 to 20 minutes maybe. But somehow from the shell 1 B1 core ( right after Ames ) to the harrier.. super quick really... And after beating the harrier and reaching the KL connecting bridge Perimeter that alone took from 1:32:00 until 1:58:00. Harrier took awhile to kill
@@MaskedMatador I noticed your video from the perimeter to the solidus fight on the roof is like from 1hr 4 minutes to 1hr 54 minutes.. so if I follow your guide and don't pickup the ammo etc I won't need like Grenade launcher I skipped etc and be super fast I should finish on like maybe 10 minutes spare or even say 7 or 8. Which will be fine. It'll just depend on how close the in game to real time speed of time.
@@MaskedMatador yup I got it today. Thank you for your guide. Helped me so much. Means a lot with Mgs2 being my favorite game for literally over 20 years. Probably the most rewarding platinum i'm about to get. Last rewarding was re4 remake and rebirth, there's good challenge there
There’s a bit of randomness with that part. Generally the game is looking at the amount of time you are in that section and how many eliminations have happened (Snake is in charge of that). Snake’s actions are not consistent, and he can die, but you’re generally looking at him killing enough guards right around the time we knock out the guard. You can also go out and help him or stand in the doorway blocking to distract the guards and give Snake a hand.
I didn't manage to do it, but I did it legit after I got bored hahaha No it's time to do Ray, who got me crazy 10 years ago on a regular Extreme Dog tag Run It's really nice of you to answer that fast, thanks a lot man :) @@MaskedMatador
No problem! Customer service has been drilled into me over my normal working career, so responding to people quickly and answering questions is important to me!
For the most part, yes. There is a brief second between her being spotted and the alert becoming active, and if you get rid of the enemy in that split second, you are still okay. However, it is best to assume that the enemy seeing Emma means you have to restart the sniper section.
@Jose__6681 Thank you! The MGS3 platinum is way easier than the other ones, so at least you’ve got that to look forward to. I’ve got those guides as well for you on my channel, and I hope you find them helpful.
@@MaskedMatador no it's new game plus I did all the dog tags before on that save The bomb was actually above the right side lower door, thanks for the guide man, I saved before Fortune I kinda got scared and I did well I got spotted in strut E Now fatman is Killing me but it's a learning process
@liquidocelot666 Yeah, practice makes perfect on the bosses. Fatman has the added challenge of being so random, but he’s not too bad once you get the hang of it and get lucky with the movement.
Yeah I managed to get a fight similar of yours, he didn't even try to plant a bomb, it was a nice fight Now I'm struggling against the Harrier hahaha It's kinda annoying to do the all Ames things before, the 8 saves limit is really what's hard about that rank First time I try this on MGS2 but I have done that on all the other MGS before with no issue, it's Tidious hahaha @@MaskedMatador
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but Olga is absolutely not going into this easy loop method you do. Is that because I'm not playing on NG+? I figured I'd practice your boss methods on this run in preparation.
She kind of has two opening moves. She either runs straight ahead or to the side. One of those yields the good opening shown in the video with the easy loop and one is a little tricker with her running around more. Even with the not-ideal opening, you can still shoot her on the run going back and forth between the rack in back and the crate up front. You’ll need to be good at leaning back and forth into cover when she shoots and then pop out and hit her. Luckily, she slows way down the lower her stamina gets, so the hardest part of the fight is the beginning. You are smart for practicing the fight; it took me a ton of tries to get past this hurdle, but eventually you’ll get through it.
@@MaskedMatador Thanks so much for the fast reply, I used your MGS1 guide and it got me through perfectly so thanks so much for that too. I'll keep at it.
You can make it half way there by blocking with the sword and slowly moving up while Snake kills everyone on the way. It’s not perfect or very fast, but it may help.
It’s actually way easier than you think. What I did was I kept practicing the fight by hitting continue when I died and do the fight over and over again until it clicks. Then reload your last save and do it for real.

This section is pretty easy except for the tricky jump after the harrier (which you can go down the pipe) and hitting the control panel with the nakita (which might kill the president). But everything is simple, its just scary. Saving here can give you much more breathing room between vamp and tengus.

Just want to say thank you for this amazing guide! I think it took me about 20 hours overall with save reloading but I achieved Big Boss and it was something else! Appreciate the effort and skill gone into this and will move onwards to MGS3 and use your guides for sure! ☺️
Awesome! I’m glad it helped. MGS3 is WAY easier, so it should be smooth sailing for you. Enjoy!
@@MaskedMatador after MGS1 and now MGS2, this is SO good to hear hahaha
Thank you so much for your guide. Without your help and strategies it wouldn't have been possible. When I saw the requirements to get the BigBoss title trophy, I said I wasn't going to do it but Metal Gear is my favorite game series and I said I'm going to do it no matter what it costs me because the series really deserves all my time playing. Thanks again
You’re very welcome! To be honest, I felt the same way looking at the trophy list, and I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do it, but with enough time and practice, it’s possible!
Fantastic guide! Thank you! Seeing that Big Boss trophy pop up at the very end was well worth it 😅👏
Dude that Ray section is insane. Super impressive run
My dude! JUST finished mgs1 elite with your guide. When the time comes, you'll be my savior again 😂 first have to go through every other trophy. Gonna attempt this last. Should be a cakewalk with your guide 🤝
Same 😊
My brother, I spent the whole day with you, started at 1PM (GMT+1) and finishing the game right now around 2 AM
You carried me all day, I kinda went crazy around 8PM, I didn't manage to beat fatman until then and everything went 'kinda' smooth after that
Didn't comment on the MGS Fox guide but you carried me there too :)
Thanks a lot for the work
Have a nice day and I hope your channel will blow up that's some damn quality guide
I'm amazed that you could get it all done in 13 hours! That's really impressive! Congratulations on finishing this beast. I'm finishing up the MGS3 Foxhound Rank video, so expect that to come out soon!
@@MaskedMatador Thanks, I'll probably watch it out of curiosity but I won't need it since I manage to get it by Myself several times already, mgs 2 was really the scary one
:)
6. For his 100 missile strike do exactly as he does in the video
7. For the machine gun part do exactly as he does in the video as well
This may not be worded the best but if someone is struggling and looking for reasons the Harrier may be acting awkward I hope this provided some assistance. 57:56
Have a great day!
Thank you! I’m glad you like the guides and found them helpful!
Bro, Fatman is taking so much of my time. Spent 6 hours trying to beat him the other night to no avail. I came so close a couple times, but I just get so shaky when he's on his last sliver of health I just crack under pressure. Gotta keep tryin, I guess.
You make it look so easy
That’s because you don’t see the 100+ failed attempts! ;). It’s a lot of practice and muscle memory.
Thank you for the Guide! Was finally able to Achieve the Big Boss Rank.
Legend. Thanks so much. Weirdly became easier after the harrier fight for me
Considering that time is looking so tight that no matter what I'll be late on the 3hour limit I went back to save #1 Strut A.
Thank you for the video. This will be a great help for me for my Big Boss rank run.
I loved ur mgs1 guide and I will definitely use this guide thank you so much
Your RAY strat is amazing. Saved me so much trouble. It’s not hard to master.
I'm glad it helped!
Great guide, appreciate the help. I would just add when anyone's doing the plant part and at a node (specialy at the start been a mandatory one) becareful not to mash button when it goes to the option menu as I noticed I turned radar on by mistake
This guide is incredibly helpful, thank you!
Bro your videos are awesome just finished my plat trophy on MGS1 gonna start MGS2 today and use your video. @everyone subscribe to this man if you like MGS - he is a BEAST.
For some reason, Olga has been my biggest obstacle so far. It seemed so random whether she would loop or not.
From the L Perimeter to the death of Solidus Snake I've studied this guide and realise from my save time at 1:58:00 it will sit on 2:48:00 by then plus end credit skips to the scorescreen so it'll be tight as, but I'll have just enough time Oof! ;)
Thank you so much for this video. I finally get the big boss rank. 🎉🎉🎉
Good work! Congratulations!
What was your save time on Vamp? I am currently there at 1 hour 15 minutes, you think that will be enough time?
@@michealfisher2887 this is enough dont worry about the time.
Yes, you should definitely have enough time.
I second this! BG3 let’s goooooooo
olga killed me...
Literally me. So many times. I can’t pull off this technique.
I got the plat back when this came out on PS3 and the extreme run still gives me PTSD, just wait until you get to the Ray fight...I'm not gonna bother with this game again I'll stick to 1 and 3
@ScotsmanJ Have you watched the Ray fight in this video? It’s probably a lot easier with this strategy than you remember. 😀
@MaskedMatador I just got to that part now and I still don't think I'm ready to plat this game again lol. The dog tag grind is just too brutal
@@ScotsmanJit’s actually not too bad on the master collection. Should only need about 2 more runs using a guide :)
Thanks to you I could make it you are my hero
Hmm that harrier strat isn't very reliable, I've hid in that corner and missiles have still killed me multiple times
Hey buddy great video! - Do you have a walkthrough of a "trophy run" for MGS2?
Thank you, that really helps.
Just to be clear, if an enemy spots you and you hear that ‘!’ It doesn’t count as long as you take them out before they radio it in?
Correct. They can see you, but they cannot finish the call over the radio to request reinforcements. If you enter the alert phase, you have to reload.
thanks for making this, loved your mgs1 guides! do you have any additional tips for the guard rush in the tanker section? i absolutely cannot for the life of me get past it and it's so frustrating! i can get to the section so fast now because of just how many times i've had to restart 😭 i'm absolutely horrendous with shooting on a controller in intense situations, so i feel like me getting the bb achievement might not happen LOL
edit: i managed it! i moved my first save way up to just after it because this fight took me a shocking amount of time - i'm much better and make so many less mistakes in the stealth sections than the fights where i need to be somewhat precise
I feel the same way about the fighting stuff. Stealth is way easier, and the aiming controls in MGS2 are no help!
The safe space during the harrier fight doesnt work. I always got killed by the rockets😢
Yeah it's not consistent, better to use the lean out of cover I frames
@@bhdtt54gh6 but finally i did it. You have to get down on the ground when the harrier is shooting and not lean against the wall. That was the key. Next step vampire ))
This is just amazing thx
Does the game still run the timer when paused?
No, when you pause the game, the timer is also paused.
What does mean life bars of damage ? I didn't understand
It is a measure of how much damage you take. 1 life bar of damage is equal to going from full health to dead. The game automatically refills your health after boss fights, but you still don’t want to take a lot of damage within the boss fights.
Oh ok i understand now thanks u
Mate sorry for all the comments, but just have to say after I went back to my 32 minutes save file. From my not so great 1Hr 58, that I'm at Fatman now at 1 HOUR.. so I'm only 20 minutes behind your run. :)
Oh, you got it now! Go go go!!!
@clintchapman6099 You got this!
Hi, can I ask at 1:40:15 , you say “when we are in good shape with this one.” What does that mean? What are you waiting for and what’s happening?
We just know that we are on track for the Big Boss rank knowing that we have no kills, the right number of alerts, low damage, low ammo usage, etc. We have confirmation we are meeting the required metrics, so we’re in good shape for the Big Boss rank.
Life saver bro!!
I’m glad the video helps!
I have another question : Are tengu 1 and 2 considered like bosses ?
So if i take a lot of damage in tengu 1 and 2 : Will it count for big boss rank ?
I mean the condition about life bars of damage which says to be less than 10
@Kerplunk-tj8pa Yes, that counts against the total number of life bars of damage you receive, so you want to try to avoid taking as much damage as possible during those sections.
Because from what i understood life bar of damage is the red bar below the blue bar, right ?
31:29 that second bomb in the sediment pool isn’t there for me? Are the bombs randomised?
It depends on which playthrough you are on. The first playthrough vs loading a completed game changes the location as well as changing the difficulty, so it’s not random, but there are a set number of different locations it could be in. I think there’s one on the upper floor.
I hate that there is no rations Fighting Olga took me 100 tries to finally beat her. Fatman was a living nightmare damn near through my controller. I’m not looking forward to fighting the jet or the rays. No rations suck. Solidus will probably be a walk in the park compared to the rest of the game. Vamp is horrible to
The strategies I’ve got for those fights make them not too bad. You can do it!
I give up lol, I think already did this on the ps3 but with keyboard is way too much for me.
can the camera see a sleeping bodyguard with a yellow indicator or does ruin the ranK?
That should be fine. You just can’t have the camera see you and set off the alert.
@@MaskedMatador yup I got it today. Thank you for your guide. Helped me so much. Means a lot with Mgs2 being my favorite game for literally over 20 years. Probably the most rewarding platinum i'm about to get. Last rewarding was re4 remake and rebirth, there's good challenge there
I don't understand how the tengu skip 2 works tho
I manage to do it twice with the guy fainting but nothing happened when I got into the corner
I didn't manage to do it, but I did it legit after I got bored hahaha
No it's time to do Ray, who got me crazy 10 years ago on a regular Extreme Dog tag Run
It's really nice of you to answer that fast, thanks a lot man :)
@@MaskedMatador
No problem! Customer service has been drilled into me over my normal working career, so responding to people quickly and answering questions is important to me!
in bridge semtex location I accidentally killed a seagull, does this invalidate my run?
No, the seagulls don’t count against you. The game cares about “persons killed.”
@@MaskedMatador thanks
If Emma is spotted It counts as an alert on the sniper section ?
For the most part, yes. There is a brief second between her being spotted and the alert becoming active, and if you get rid of the enemy in that split second, you are still okay. However, it is best to assume that the enemy seeing Emma means you have to restart the sniper section.
Can you use the stealh wig? Or does that kill the run
You cannot use any special items like stealth camo, bandana, and wigs as using them voids the rank.
@@MaskedMatador good to know, thanks for the info brother
@Jose__6681 Thank you! The MGS3 platinum is way easier than the other ones, so at least you’ve got that to look forward to. I’ve got those guides as well for you on my channel, and I hope you find them helpful.
"you can shoot him in his bald head" lmao 41:35
Jesus.. this one is gonna be a lot harder than 1 and 3 😫
Wait, I don't have the same bomb placement in strut D, is this random?
If you’re playing on New Game instead of loading one, it’ll be slightly different. There’s one on the upper level.
@@MaskedMatador no it's new game plus I did all the dog tags before on that save
The bomb was actually above the right side lower door, thanks for the guide man, I saved before Fortune I kinda got scared and I did well I got spotted in strut E
Now fatman is Killing me but it's a learning process
@liquidocelot666 Yeah, practice makes perfect on the bosses. Fatman has the added challenge of being so random, but he’s not too bad once you get the hang of it and get lucky with the movement.
Yeah I managed to get a fight similar of yours, he didn't even try to plant a bomb, it was a nice fight
Now I'm struggling against the Harrier hahaha
It's kinda annoying to do the all Ames things before, the 8 saves limit is really what's hard about that rank
First time I try this on MGS2 but I have done that on all the other MGS before with no issue, it's Tidious hahaha
@@MaskedMatador
does pausing still run up the time?
No, pausing stops the in-game timer.
I'm missing some stun grenades for the Tengu 1 phase, it's going to be fun hahaha
F*ck me right
You can make it half way there by blocking with the sword and slowly moving up while Snake kills everyone on the way. It’s not perfect or very fast, but it may help.
no way am i going to be able to beat vamp doing this
It’s actually way easier than you think. What I did was I kept practicing the fight by hitting continue when I died and do the fight over and over again until it clicks. Then reload your last save and do it for real.
I would master boss rush hard first
That’s definitely a good idea to get in the practice to help make the run smoother!
