I too have painted and stenciled my concrete patio. A word to the wise. If you are painting on raw concrete - concrete that has never been painted before, you must etch the concrete first, with an acid solution, to prep the concrete so that your paint will stick. U went through a lit if time and expense, to paint a large concrete patio, only to have it peel in the first winter! Now I am repainting it, after power washing all of the previous paint off, etched it, painted it, stenciled it, and you must put a sealer on top. For me it was a lot of work, but it really defines an outdoor space.
3 words i can think of. Wow wow wow. Really like the finished look. Well worth the effort i bet and has given the garden a lovely focal point. Thanks for an amazing tutorial. Given me lots of inspiration for ideas in the garden.
It looks amazing but don't forget to put a sealer, that stops it from fading, you have to have the patio spotless and bone dry before you put the sealer, good luck
That look fabulous! The darker color on the edges looks much better than the light grey did as it is a better transition into the green grass. I want to do this but where I live I have to pressure wash my concrete regularly due to large oak trees that make a mess and I don't think paint would hold up. :(
I am in the process of stenciling my back porch and appreciate your video. It is definitely a process but I think the out come is going to be stunning. How is your patio holding up after a few years? Did you seal it?
I absolutely love this. The video, explanation, paint, how you have applied, accessories used, everything was perfect. Well done, it looks amazing. On my way to B&Q now. Already have the stencils.
Wow kerry! That turned out amazing! Who would have thought that a lump of concrete could turn into a thing of beauty! You have certainly put your STAMP(😉) on your new garden! 👌👌🙋♀️
I love it,I'm doing mine today. I came across a post two weeks back of a lady who did her garden for £100 and was fascinated. Now I'm hooked on doing mine but the weather is not on my side but today I'm determined come rain or shine. I've done the base colour white today I'm stencilling with black colour though I wanted duck egg
I've just started painting my patio and have the same trouble as you, as the grey is very light. had white for the stenciling but I think I'll do same as you. outstanding job
That looks so pretty Kerry! I'm seriously considering this now for our unsightly patio, but I'm wondering if it's as easy as you made it look? Is it easy to make the pattern match up? Can you see through the stencil so you can match it up? I'm not very artistic! Xx
Love this video! Im tempted to have a go once the weather warms up a bit. Roll on spring! I hope its easy to match up the stencil pattern. Wonder how it look now mid Winter?
This is such a fun project to do.. its very easy to match up once you have done it once or twice, then it just comes naturally!! Good luck.. you will love it :) xxx
This is great. I've been wanting to do this on our front porch. I will do it when the weather warms up! Thank you! Nice job! (Oh, one small tip; I would put brick pavers all around it, to finish the edges.)
This is really inspirational! Could you tell me how it fares in wet weather? For example has the painted surface made any difference to surface water? Is it at all slippery when wet?
Kerry looks amazing I think im goona do something like that my partner she keeps telling me to do something but I couldn't think of something bcse my garden patio is massive area and its slabed too..
@@KerryWhelpdale gotta say when I first saw the video come up I was wow patio stenciling that's a new one ,, ok then lol . Was very surprised, it's amazing so glad your pleased with it x
The paint is still looking great a year down the line.. you can also paint over it with a sealant.. I didn't and it still looks fab, but it is a good idea just for it to last even longer :) xxx
I didn’t seal it but lots of people say if you do it will last longer.. but I would say there is no rush, but I probably would seal it just to make it last as long as possible :) xxx
I didn't put a seal on and a year on its still looking fab.. but, I think if you have some then put some on.. our colour hasn't faded one bit though over the time xxx
Hi I bought Santex masonry paint but some people say it’s a no no for patio area. Can I ask if you used a primer or sealer. I’ve bought 10Lts don’t want to waste it. Love your comments.thank you.
I got the Valspa masonary paint and it’s brilliant.. 4 months in and it’s still perfect :) I didn’t use any sealant either, just the paint and it’s stayed on so well :) xxx
Nice job. I see its been almost a year since you put the video up. Is the paint still intact? not peeled away or faded? Did you put a sealer on the top?
It’s still perfect :) I’m so so happy with it and it still looks as good as new :) I didn’t put sealer on it either, so if you do then it will last for even longer :) xxx
Hi. How much paint did you use to paint the whole concrete? My area is around double size of yours and I would like to know if one small bucket like yours would be enough paint. :) If you could remember how much gray and black paint you used separelety, I would thank you very much!!
I used about 1.5litres to paint mine so if yours is double I would say a 2.5litre pot to do the base is plenty.. then to do the stencil I hardly used any paint at all.. less than 0.5 litres for the stencil ing :) xxx
Oh no I didn’t prime mine and it’s stayed on perfectly :) it will probably last longer if you do prime it, but will works really well without primer :) xxx
@@KerryWhelpdale how is it holding up now? I just painted/stenciled my patio but forgot to prime it first so now I’m wondering how it will hold up over time. Your work turned out beautiful!
