His knowledge and use of language, his comedic timing is brilliant. The nuance of English humour delivered with great skill. And he comes across as a lovely bloke.
i moved to germany half my life ago, and the more familiar you become with germans and german jokes around the country, the more you realize how true this really is lol
Probably because his English teacher was obsessed with them. You wouldn't hear a German teacher teaching German idioms to native German speakers (same with British I suppose), you just pick them up along the way. But some foreign language teachers really love idioms and phrases.
@@just-tess he probably learned english on the go, in some bar and found out he sounds very funny - in several ways. The stories/adventures, the accent, the wording. woo!
Henning is a very wholesome and genuine person who comes across as very likable. I love his sense of humor and the way he uses British verbiage when he speaks.
@timothypowell8624 That's true. I live in France since 28 years and being Dutch, really did all I could to learn the language. I'm really very good at it; but sometimes I have jokes in my head I can't translate in French. Makes me regret people don't realise how funny I am !!! 😊
The "Schöne-Wochenend-Ticket" (Nice-Weekend-Ticket) was very nice. You could get 5 people on one ticket and use every regional train in Germany for the weekend. It was dirt cheap.
Henning since "Henning Wehn know's best" is British/German treasure. His use of English idiom is sublime...and there is always this cold German distance that just makes us Brits want to make him ours....it is very clever comedy. I love Henning....he makes my eyes flood with tears of laughter. Such a funny man.
German here, i just found out about Henning Wehns carrer in the UK last week. This guy makes me really lough hard. I spend a lot of effiort reducing my german accent, i think i will give up on it.
He's long been a comedy legend in the UK. Just by being instantly, continually humorous. Wehn knows the detailed intricacies and subtleties our language. But deliberately retains and uses a strong German accent for added entertainment value. Genius. 👍
It for most people is a wasted effort, so don’t feel bad about it, and henning still sounds completely German, in case you think he doesn’t. He’s not fooling 1 British person
I love how everything Henning says is in the mid '90's........Bob Mortimer's saying is always " as I've said before, it was a long time ago "..........Love WILTY.....David and Lee are exceptional also.....
00:00 "For three weeks, I was listed as a missing person by Interpol" 07:04 "I was once arrested by border guards for ilegally entering another country" 12:23 "For three weeks, I carted an empty box around without realising that what I bought wasn't actually in it" 17:02 "As a kid my parents denied me chocolate, so every Easter I had run around the garden and hunt the Easter onion" 21:05 "I once refused to use a dressing room because I could sense the aura of Derek Acorah" 24:56 "Because I already know what I look like, I do not have a single mirror in my house"
I agree. German comedians are not my up of tea, most of them are about as funny as James Corden, in my opinion. We have a couple decent ones not originally from Germany, but I much prefer British comedy, and Henning really hits those British comedy vibes with his own flavour added.
There are couple of good German comedians. Helge Schneider or young Otto Waalkes for example. But tbh British comedy is also not what it used to be. Still better than 90% of German comedy though. I think Henning only really works as "the German" in Britain.
11:48 - David makes a great comical point.... and then the lady to the left of his just says the same thing again but in different words in order to make it seem like that was actually *her* original thought... right...
Yes people are often reported missing at embassies by concerned families and 95 percent of them are found. The reasons are numerous. Changed travel plans, drunken benders, got arrested etc.
His knowledge and use of language, his comedic timing is brilliant. The nuance of English humour delivered with great skill. And he comes across as a lovely bloke.
I love Henning's sense of humor about himself. It's one of the most charming and endearing aspects of him. He's adorable.
Could not agree more, as British people we are very appreciative of self deprecation and he is amazing. Not only that he is fucking just lovely.. 🤣🤣🤣😂
Lay off the crack pipe!
'I mean you know what it sometimes is like isn't it?
....like a....
Well, I can't quite think of an example.'
He's like a German Bob Mortimer.
😀
My god you’re right!
Except David usually gets it right.
It would be awesome to have both of them on.
Some say Henning can split a tin of sauerkraut in two with his bare hands.
”Otherwise I’d say Pete”. Love it!
He's so funny...I'm literally crying 😂
"Maybe I've chosen my words, not very wisely "
" German sense of humor" cracks me all the time!
That line had me burst out laughing
i moved to germany half my life ago, and the more familiar you become with germans and german jokes around the country, the more you realize how true this really is lol
When he uses British phrases it is so bloody funny… “in for a penny, in for a pound!” 😂
I know, right! 😂 "Your local bobby"
cor blimey!
There's nothing like hearing Brit phrases in a non-Brit accent (speaking as a non-Brit 😅)
That's what always makes me laugh too

Rob imitating Henning's parents set me off. 🤣😂🤣 Then Henning just in tears from laughter. Just brilliant.
I always attributed it to him thinking of his father, who passed away. 😢
@@tunnfiskOh dear, I never knew what to think... 😮
@@tunnfisk Indeed, I have always seen that as him being strongly moved by the memory of his father brought on by the unexpected mention.

Thank you bot.
My beloved late Nan loved Henning Wehn. She used to get his name mixed up and say “Hemmingway is on Would I Lie To You” 😂 I miss her 😂
As a non native speaker, his use of English idioms is outstanding
@timothypowell8624

To be fair though, hes been living in the UK for about half his life (20+ years).
Maybe he's just British and the accent is his joke
He intentionally studied them as it's an easy laugh when a foreigner uses a native idiom.

I have watched compilations on this man so many times and even though I know every word of the stories I still find myself in tears laughing.

'It was in the mid 90's' Always a great start

Henning and the wonderful Bob Mortimer are my two favourite guests on WILTY.
The "Schöne-Wochenend-Ticket" (Nice-Weekend-Ticket) was very nice. You could get 5 people on one ticket and use every regional train in Germany for the weekend. It was dirt cheap.

Henning would improve any comedy show. I just love watching the guy.😂
"No... He's a sort of Savage Rationalist!" is an amazing compliment coming from David.
Unfortunately, he was wrong!
@@truthteller99999 True. Such is life, for David Mitchell on WILTY.
He was only wrong on that occasion. Savage rationalism perfectly describes not having mirrors because you know what you look like already.
Henning, Acaster and Mortimer had some of the best stories on WILTY
Even Rhod!
Kevin and the horse
Claudia Winkelmann is excellent at this game.
You can't leave out the inventor of Music Practice Room Snorkel Parka and Cushon!
@@pknicky1One of my favorites!😂
I could listen to British idioms coming out in his accent all day long. It's hilarious how comfortably they fly out and how much he leans into it!
I love this show....and Henning!
"But they knew there was little point executing us"
😂😂😂 priceless!!
😂😂😂
It takes a lot for me to laugh out loud watching something on UA-cam - but I did!
The dressing room and mirror stories were new for me. The others I've watched a hundred times over. Still enjoyed each story, old or new.
I love Henning. He is such a funny likeable guy.
Henning & Bob Mortimer are the WILTY masters 🙌🏻
Henning tells the most fantastically unbelievable stories that are almost always true!

So much love for Henning. Love him on this and Cats Does Countdown! 🥰
He's BRILLIANT on The Unbelievable Truth. Just hilarious. And everyone, but especially David, ignores the "Don't Mention The War" rule. 😂

Except for the last clip, I'd seen them all. Henning is great though, and well worth watching again.
So, so good. A highly underrated comedian.
