It's been less than 6 months and he's still very traumatized.
Unless you’ve testified in a courtroom full of people staring at you, including a judge, lawyers, full jury box and press/cameras, you really shouldn’t be judging this guy’s demeanor so harshly.
He may be having the equivalent of “stage fright” on top of everything else he’s been through.

So sad to read some of the comments. I know everyone has a right to their opinions, but wow. This man lost his wife in a very tragic way, yet people are critical of his demeanor, actions, testimony. I can't imagine, or do i ever want to, being in his shoes and having to go through this.
While I to some extent understood his reasoning, but to minimise the catastrophic effects of his step daughters actions is not only doing a huge disservice to the victims, but also to any potential future victims of hers should be sway the judge to go light when sentencing her, particularly beibg so young could see her free before she's 30 years old and I truly believe she will categorically find herself in an identical situation should thst happen.

Well if mom was afraid of her ex husband, she kept the gun by her for protection. They didnt leave the guns laying all around the house, the gun was in their room in a cubby on moms side of the bed. Who’s to say she wouldn’t have gotten into the gun safe if that’s where the gun was?
In today's day and age, yes! Kids today are crazy! I can't recall these incidents happening when I grew up. Most of us had guns in our homes. My dad had a gun case full of them.
Why guns at all??????
Interesting how she only started screaming once she saw her stepdad; on the footage of her at the time she murdered her mum, she was calm, quiet and collected enough to use her mums phone pretending to be her in order to send a text. If you're in a state where you're terrified and out of control as he claims she appeared, you'd be terrified the entire time...she was even clear headed enough to go back to her mum and shoot her numerous times again after she heard her mum cry for help and realised she was still alive. How convenient that the hysteria began only when he arrived home. Insanity isn't selective like that.
Keep guns in a safe or otherwise locked.
Because guns kill people? You don't think she would have used a knife?

My husband and I keep most of our "tools" in the safe to prevent anyone who might gain illegal access to our home from getting them.

This man wants people to believe there were no signs of any problems in the house. So yeah, he'll defend her and say she snapped out of the blue to protect himself.

He has no reason to protect himself regardless he wouldn't be in trouble this isn't a school shooting case where a child got ahold of the parents gun and shot up a school either she shot at him and killed her mother I mean are you even listening to his testimony his exact words he's not protecting her he said she knew where his guns where at that they were in the closet anyway.
