*already seen coverage of all 3 parts* “Oh shit datto? Gotta watch it”
same lmao
Yep
Josh Todd read all three too
Datto just has a way of explaining it that I like and he’s honest
The truth hurts 🤧
Excited about how transparent Bungie has been. Looking forward to future of the game.
It really reminds me of the old Halo era vidocs, where they come back from E3 and they are like "dude the game sucks." Lars Bakken, who funnily enough you can see in those old vidocs, recently opened up on Twitter saying the 4v4 change in crucible was his idea, and that he thought getting rid of multiples of 3 was a mistake they needed to fix. So open, so honest, really great stuff.
Activision was like the crackhead holding a knife to their throats
Oh how wrong you were
What a mistake
We’re in the future now, and it’s a dark one for destiny
R.I.P to the 10 power level travelers chosen in my vault, you'll be missed. 😪
Topu I still have mine too rip
Press F to pay respects.
Topu why would you want those
imagine not keeping your starting gear in the vault
Yup rip my forge farming :( i can still do it but i feel bad for kinderguardian trying to do forge first time
Totally got whiplash when you mentioned Rift. I completely forgot about that mode but now I'm outraged it hasn't been reintroduced yet
Ah Rift... the easiest gamemode to mercy rule (or get mercy ruled)
Honestly my favorite gamemode from D1. At least 60% of my favorite memories from D1 Crucible were from really close Rift games
I loved Rift when it came out in d1 ahh the memories
Haha imagine using code of the missile to dive in an snag the ball
@@travisbewley7084 true that would be amazing for it
I'm honestly loving how open Luke and bungie is being with the community ❤
Chris Clarke I mean they said they want too, but the console limitations won’t let them
@@PhoenixAU Sure, leave behind what makes more than 50% of your salary.......
Chris Clarke console is 80-90% of the player base the game will have no player base if they ditch console it sucks that console has limitations but I guess it’s hard for bungie to optimize the game
@@PhoenixAU "let's make our player base spend upwards of 80 quid to play the game, on top of the base price" is probably the stupidest idea I've heard all year. That would get laughed out of every pitch meeting. The backlash would be fatal
@UCJjOCrPe8Rx5D4t5-zWTkEw You idiot might think that, but Bungo don't and that's what matters.
I WIN BYE BYE
All I wanna say is:
1. Trials of the **NINE** is on hiatus indef
2. 3v3
3. A warmer home
Please...
EDIT: **NINE** is in italics in Part III.
BerryFruit It’s not happening. EDIT: I didn’t notice the italics first time around. I understand what you are saying, and I agree that it may come back.
Don't do that. Don't give me hope.
Cullen and Friends it was said as trials of the nine and then called trials of the nine in italics being on hiatus.
BerryFruit Yeah I hope for it to return as well
Nick Cachor I didn’t notice that my first time round. Ma bad
"You live, ya learn, and hang on the edge of tomorrow."
Datto...why'd you have to hit my nostalgia button so hard?
"WHERE is RIFT???" *smashes like button so hard he hopes Bungie hears*
Skillscapers that was literally my favorite PvP mode back in D1
Exactly my feelings
This is how I feel about SRL, even though bungie has clearly said they don't have the time/resources for it. And it's not popular. Ugh.
I loved SRL, I grinded the heck out of it for that sweet racing armor lol
Rift was fucking amazing especially playing with randoms when we all coordinate and they escort me to the rift and I come up and try to do a backflip but fail.
Dat Sonic Adventure 2 reference tho! :D
Actually had me out of my seat, and then the room, and then the house. LAST place I'd expect something like that.
@@qiuzo3828 LOL i did exactly the same
I didn't spot the reference oh nvm xd
Where exactly?
Beelzebub What’s the reference?
The fact that Luke said they are open to reworking power makes me very excited. The one thing that I always felt that was missing from this game (and something they addressed way back in the original State of the Game post from Jan 2017) was the lack of "Prestige." Being a high or max power doesn't mean much anymore like you said. Pinnacle Endgame activities should be one of the only ways to get to max power and there should be Pinnacle Endgame Rewards alongside those activities that are equally meaningful. Raid loot has lost a lot of its charm, there's no Trials rewards, and with Eververse being a big part of the game now, truly unique rewards from outside the store have been few and far between.
They've pretty much covered every single thing I was hoping they would and most of it sounds great! -- except for more prestigious top tier rewards. If they give us just a little more cool stuff to chase at the very top (for PvE and PvP), then I've got no more complaints!
Yo Ninja, nice to see your channel bloom! I think everyone knows the PVE content will be strong and bountiful but none of this stuff matters if PvP remains fundamentally the same. Not for me.
@@wrongthink3885 yeah I should clarify I would love to see these kinds of top tier rewards for both pve and PvP!
Hell yeah man! Thumbs up from me. I really really REALLY hate the changes to damage stacking. As a numbers guy that wants to do the most damage possible and instant kill something if possible... it saddens me. But I understand it. I definitely gave this video a thumbs up. I appreciate this long video. I played the whole thing, only pausing to take calls (because I'm at work).
Datto went from getting criticized for stating he didn’t like the meta to being validated by bungie
Why would he be criticized, how could anyone disagree that the game is broken rn?
@@cosimodepaolis5192 My psn bio is "Ask me to run Well and I'll block you."..I've got into tons of arguments with people who like Well being broken
@@cosimodepaolis5192 people that have been enjoying the power trip Crucible puts players in if they build around it. Just had a QP match with 6 titans that chained all their Fists of Havoc from the two minutes in until the end of the match....there was ALWAYS ONE Fists running around at all times.
@@jordanuniverse1475 what a sad mentality... I'm pretty sure you're that kind of person who announces they're a dick and so you are basically doing us all a favour by announcing it
People don’t like it - but he is right often
I am a very lapsed player but I think max level light 100% should be for raiders etc.
I remember in D1 seeing players with VOG gear and thinking 'that's something to aim for'... rather than just grind strikes etc and sneak up slowly.
Not going to lie, I'm throughly impressed how ahead of the curve you were realizing how certain exotics and supers broke design mechanics. Throughly impressed.
0:49 Ah, a man of culture! How much more can you make us respect you?
In terms of vanity I would like to see certain cosmetic items (emblems, ghosts, sparrows, etc.) be given out for doing harder things (like the Prometheus/LoW emblems). In particular I think you should get something special for doing the Mountaintop or Wendigo before the quest changes.
Luke Smith: Datto, this is what you wanted right? This is the promise I made to you.
In Part 1/2 (I don't feel like going back into the vid) Luke said that he thought players would want to chase looks first and second powerful/god-roll items, although as Datto said power is always the #1 focus I don't think that it would have been as much of an issue if the art design team didn't massively downgrade the looks of armor between D1 and D2, I feel like if we had some sweet ass armor that really made you go "holy shit" (I'm not talking about you titan shoulders) then it would have been more captivating.
purple Shadow exactly this has been my main problem with d2. I made my hunter look cool as shit but compared to my d1 hunter I’m a kiderguardian. Back then my guy actually looked like I just got done killing gods and their minions
Can't wait for you to get a boost of subs for when new light comes out, I've been watching since y2 of d1 and your growth has been awesome
Same here, the future is bright and I'm excited
Of subs*.
Totally agree with ya though.
First off....why do you think ALL the content creators for D2 just absolutely LOVE the idea of D2 as free to play. It’s absolutely in their monetary interest! And I am totally fine with that....it’s capitalism and this is how they make their living and they work hard at it. But at the same time......they are NEVER going to mention some of the less desirable things free to play will bring. And they are there. From more emphasis on monetization of micro transactions to a bazillion 10 year olds invading our game space every night. I frankly am very much NOT looking forward to D2 going free to play.
I still just can't get over how gorgeous this game is. From the art style to the graphics/textures to the animations and UI. Everything is just polished to perfection.
With all due respect, are you joking?
@@hoxton_hummingbird Why would you think that?
Trials of the Nine with Nine in italics has me freaking out
Henry J. Explain?
@@joewhitehouse9714 in the cut, luke says "Trials of the *Nine* will be on hiatus indefinitely" implying that Trials of *something else* may not be. It's a hint towards trials of osiris or something similar entering the game again. That combined with the reintroduction of elimination really strongly hints towards trials of osiris coming back sometime next year, like season 9 or something.
@@RotatingBuffalo whoop-de-do ....
@@jotunheim5302 yeah some of us liked trials believe it or not. it's the main reason i played the game, alongside many other people.
Great video Datto. You took out Ghaul. Woke up the traveler, and now half of what I hear on the streets is how much you and your clan are making a difference. That's why I started this whole clan thing in the first place. People are still waiting for the vanguard to solve all their problems for them. People like you are making a difference. No pressure.

I think theres a "hint" for trials of Osiris return in the post. When he was talking about Elimination he said- "we fully expected it graduate out of Labs and find a WARMER home"
Very well done video Datto, commentary was informative and hit the right points. Glad you met with Luke Smith to discuss these topics.
oh my friggin god "but ya live and you learn, and you hang on the edge of tomorrow" Datto has to do a play through of SA2
Was that a Sonic Adventure 2 reference 0:50
I was not prepared to be honest
Yes, yes it was
I don’t even play destiny anymore but I’m rooting for u hitting worlds first datto! You got this man
You should try D2 again at some point. It’s a great game now and if you don’t have it then just wait until New Light releases so you can download the game for free.
Even though I don’t play Destiny anymore(got done after Year 1 D2), I still enjoy Datto’s videos abt his thoughts & general state of the game. Maybe I’ll jump into Destiny again with Shadowkeep. Not sure yet! I still like these videos & I hope you keep me coming. Stay beautiful, Datto!!!
Well its gonna be free
Datto I never expected to hear a Sonic adventure reference in a video by you and it was the best surprise I could imagine
0:50 “you live and you learn, and you hang on the edge of tomorrow.” I see you there with the sonic adventure 2 reference datto. Great video as always!
Alright so here's my theory on the next year of Destiny content. Shadowkeep comes, we get to the black garden and truly find out what the darkness is. Us raiding the Black Garden (Vex) leads us into the next season. Our actions in the Black Garden, draw attention from Osiris, he returns and brings back the Trials of Osiris. (To help train us against the actual darkness.) This would be a PvP focused Season. Next season, we actually meet our new enemy race, (The Darkness) and that season is about them. After that Idk I'm only one guy.
They won't introduce the Darkness/the veil as a race in game until D3 or year 4 D2 (which is less likely to happen)
Guess what bro
As always, Datto hits it right on the head! Love your commentaries and content man. Keep it up!
"You live and you learn, and you hang on the edge of tomorrow."
Immediately paused to write this comment and like the video. I didn't think I could like you more, Datto. Nice one lmao
Thank you for breaking it all down in simplistic terms. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait for shadow keep and videos breaking down the new mod system because we will need the math class to sort it all out. It seems very complicated. Hopefully they make raid armor/weapons perks for the raid again.
My dream patch would be making all "automatic reload" abilities only provide an Auto-loading holster effect instead. It would make bosses much more difficult and engaging
Edit: And maybe like a 5 min cooldown on Res tokens in raids, to make them less of a migraine to deal with.
have i read the information for myself and seen videos of it already? yes. am i gonna watch 30 minutes of datto anyway? absolutely
Yesss Datto thoughts are my favorite D2 content, love hearing your perspective and thoughts.
Great coverage of the cut, datto. Literally was waiting on/pumped for your thoughts video since the first cut was released
Sonic reference in the first minute? Thats a demonetization.
Always love your commentary and I enjoyed the way you broke some of these down. Story is a big one for me so anything that would move it forward is a plus. Looking forward to Shadowkeep and many new videos.
Thank you for making a commentary on this. Some other creators are making 3 or more videos on the directors cut series. I really appreciate you waiting and making one good video instead of making multiple meh videos.
I love that Datto pointed out “WHERES RIFT” cause I loved and miss that mode so much
I'm dropping all my armor right away. I can deal with being weaker for a bit
Great vid Datto totally agree with you. Some content changes i'm waiting to see before making judgment on. Power ammo spawning once during a match would be ideal in my opinion. I was kinda hoping for more changes for pvp but i guess we will see how these changes play out. stuff being taken away from season to season they where pretty vague about and not sure what to think about that. I understand they need to sustain the game to give them more room for added content which is understandable i guess we will just have to wait till they give us a clearer view of what that looks like. Cheers

Your videos are well presented, no bullshit and straightforward Datto, Good Job
theres no way the must raid to get max power thing lasts. datto says it was prestigious but most players hated it in D1. 80% of players dont raid so thats gonna be a lot of pissed off people. for the record, i do raid so it doesnt affect me, but i hated it in D1 before i found a clan
Bungie has made it very clear that they're not catering the game to casuals anymore. As they shouldn't, because even though casuals help their overall sales, they aren't the ones who stick around long-term and keep the game going. I personally think that reaching max level really should mean something. Currently, it means very little. Whether you're 730 or 750, for example, has zero impact on a vast majority of the game. Being 20 below max level only matters in 2 activities: Crown of Sorrow, where you'll still be just fine at 730, and Heroic Menagerie. Technically there's Iron Banner also, but the 20 level difference has negligible effects there and it really doesn't matter. That's it though. There really isn't much of a reason to hit max level, and even if there is, the least accomplished players can do it without ever stepping into a single end game activity, which isn't sound logic. Love it or hate it, that's your preference, but it's better for the game and the community for max power level to have a certain prestige to it as well as meaningful to the game in some way.
must have (insert rng dropped weapon that xur never sold or is really rare drop from the raid ) to join this raid group.
@@Xn2th3blue i'd argue thats what emblems, raid armor and pinnacle weapons do right now. i think this will end up making it harder for people who dont do the activities to try them before on the "must be 975 to join" posts. I get the dont cater to the people who only play an hour or two a week but look at percentage of people who have the complete a raid achievement sometime. its at about 25% of the people who play
@@rbritt that percentage is skewed. It factors in the number of people that have ever logged in to the game, whether they even play now or not. Or if they played the game for just a couple hours, decided it wasn't for them, and didn't play again. Of the currently active playerbase, the percentage of people to complete the raid is much higher. And I don't think the pinnacle weapons mean that much either, save for the comp ones. The Gambit weapons don't even require you to win a single match to complete them, and the Vanguard weapons are just plan old strikes. Again, things that literally any player can do by themselves. Max level needs to actually mean something. You should look at someone who is max level and know they've done a lot to get there. Right now, it just means they did some of the powerful rewards each week. Strikes, story missions, basic crucible, etc. And like I said, being max level doesn't matter anywhere in the game except for Heroic Menagerie, which barely anyone even does since they nerfed the chest farm. Like me, for example. I'm a fairly proficient raider and have completed all the raids in the game many times. You know how many times I've done Heroic Menagerie? Not once, because there's no reason to do it. I have zero desire to complete it and so, even though I am and have been max level for a long time, it hasn't mattered at all. That's the problem. I personally shouldn't even be at max level since I haven't done that activity even once. And nothing about my character will change even if I do it. Zero incentive to do an activity like that.
Also, even though it isn't relevant to this directly, I have always had an issue with the way level scaling works in this game. That is to say, me walking into the Prestige Leviathan at 750 gives no added advantage compared to someone at 350. I get it that they don't want people being way over leveled for an activity and steamrolling it, but that's part of the power fantasy from basically any RPG out there. Take Diablo 3 as an example. If I'm level 70 with a Paragon Level of 1000, and I load into a lower difficulty instance of the game, I'm able to basically one-shot every enemy in there. They don't scale me down to match the level of the adds. I can actually experience and feel like my character is growing exponentially in that game. That content that was previously very difficult is now a breeze after grinding more levels/better gear, and it feels rewarding. It's not really fun to have the same issues and same restraints in any activity no matter how much better my gear and my character is compared to my first experience. They want us to feel powerful, and there are ways to make it possible. Not to mention that an example like this is actually another reason to not grind to max level, because it doesn't even give you any kind of advantage on lower activities.
When he screamed "where is rift" I felt that
Splitting from activision was a really great decision as far as listening to players
TeSean Cook if I could like this comment twice I would do it 5 times
But I this shows that they were always listening just that Activision wasn’t letting them go express themselves and show transparency
It really warms my heart to see Bungie employees being so open on Twitter and with this Director's Cut. They've come such a long way. And it equally pains me to see so many ungrateful cretins on the Bungie forums tearing them down like they're some outlet for their own real life frustrations.
How was the Summit Datto?
What summit?
Fruit summit?
Row Claw yes
watch the spicy wings video, thank me later
ThePlague207 that was so funny 😂😂
Datto: I should have spread this out over multiple videos.
The 5 ads spaced throughout the video: Nah this is fine. You good.
Taken king. Rise of iron. Age of triumph. Vault of glass. Trials of Osiris. Original D1 iron banner.
The best content in destiny’s history. Just go back to those roots.
Tom Bombadil and that is what is so astounding about the last two years. It has taken them this long to kinda (we hope) realize what you just said. They had a great 1st product and they threw it out the window and all we have done for the last two years is do overs and backtrack. And.....here’s what really gets me....all people want to do is blame Activision when they did their entire first product under Activision just fine!
Really enjoyed listening to your thoughts on it. I can't wait to see what's coming!

Finally a Datto video, needed someone to tell me what to think.
Just realized there was no mention of faction rally in the director's cut. Hope we actually get them back in y3.
indeed.. unless its some ultra boring lost sector grind again, then Bungie can keep them for..
They should just bring them back as perma vendors like D1 and then just have faction rally weeks where you earn XP faster from doing shit and maybe ornaments for doing something that week.
Year 3!!!!! 2017 wasn’t 3 years ago idk why people say year 3 can you not count
@@MrAjking808 because we are going into the 3rd yearly cycle. Base game up until Forsaken was y1. Forsaken up until Shadowkeep was y2. And Shadowkeep up until the late 2020 DLC is y3.
I feel that whatever you think of the changes that he mentioned are being made and his consideration of the future, his thoughts came off as very genuine in everything he said.
im curious datto..what do you mean by pvp pinnacles weapons becoming easier to get??? cause you may think getting 2100 glory points is easy..its not. especially for people who aren't as good or you get bad teams and go on losing streaks..mountain top is far from easy. maybe for "hardcore" players may think it's easier cause more people can actually get it which i don't see a problem with that. i know how much you and a very small part of the community like those very rare items where the "casuals" can't get.
Pinnacle pvp weapons are getting easier to get. I mean if I wanted to I could probably get recluse but...Luna burned me out of pvp like hell.
Redrix, Luna, And mountain were and still are insanely hard to get but recluse and onward is pretty easy.
chang yang don’t forget not forgotten. The hardest of them all
Getting to 2100 is easy at least on console (PS4) I have no clue what it's like on PC
The damage numbers thing is absolutely not a nerf, Luke was very clear on that.
Will clash be in its own mode like control? I prefer to kill people rather than cap zones. Cause they better
Not at launch, mabe in the future. They decided to put control on its own for new players to get comfortable with pvp and a single basic game mechanic.
live and learn sonic reference? a man of culture uh, LOVE IT
Most people that are mad about the 750 change is the people who collect level 10 gear
Dom G you’re goddamn right! I pride myself on my ability to reach a power level lower than 10.
My bad, that was in d1 with eververse armor dropping at 3. With that said, I’m gonna miss rocking like power level 11...
Right now in Destinys story, we are in the context, and slowly learning more and more. Although Shadowkeep doesn’t seem be the climax, I’m excited for what season 9 and on shows for the story.
So basically Bungie is leveling everything to 0 (and calling it 750)
Yes, it's a soft reset until they decide how they're gonna get a handle on it.
Yes to fix the game for the lazy casuals.

Power grind did feel like a chore. From the time Forsaken launched till Black Armory, I just gave up the hardcore grind. I hated going back to the dreaming city for power and I accepted to play D2 casually since then... until Shadowkeep. Moons Haunted and Im here to bust some ghosts of the past 👻🔫🧙♂️
Sincerly a hunter main turned warlock main since Black Armory.
Datto could make a video about him ranking different kinds of dirt and I’d still watch it
I can listen to Datto talk about this stuff all day regardless if I already know the information or not
Yea I don't get why they don't shrink our power level numbers since 750 is essentially now 0
I was kinda thinking the same thing, but ended with; you and I became powerful, and this new flow of guardians were rebirthed under that incredible power flow. I can't see d3 climbing as high though, to be honest. It was probably a mistake bungie didn't intend
Because hitting 999 ties in with the dreaming city lore
Re: Max Power vs Artifact. The artifact's bonus power WILL NOT take you over max light level. A character who is max light from pinnacle activities, and a character who is (effectively) max light thanks to the artifact will perform identically. The difference is that one of them will have a bigger number on his emblem so that everyone can see what a badass he is.
I hate people calling all players who don't do pinnacle stuff "casual players". The game is still not very friendly with solo players although the fireteam search function is much better now.
Really enjoyed this video
Best part? When he mentioned rift
Bungie and streamers still don't get that most people play single player. If single players can't get to to max level people will just leave. Don't like it. Tough. Less people playing means less money in the pool. And that means less quests like whisper and less people to play with.
Catering the game around the playstyle of the casual playerbase that can't be bothered to group up is what caused D2 to launch in such a shit state and remain like that until Forsaken.
@@Zeethos and yet most people (the majority of the player base that still invest 100s of hours) play alone. Should have more matchmaking options.
Thank you Datto for reminding me of my favorite D1 game mode... Rift!
Id rather EARN cool looking gear rather than spend money on ridiculously expensive silver for cosmetics from eververse
That goes for lots of players however, it is not going to make Bungie enough money
The Sonic Adventure 2 reference was a nice touch me dood!
That Bungie forums burn mate. That was killer. Honestly that place some high quality stupidity.
For me personally. Trials of Osiris in D1 is what kept me engaged and for the most part helped to reach my 3000+ hours of play time. I loved that game mode. It was hard and so rewarding when you finally did it. It just wasn’t that great in D2. If it came back I would probably return to Destiny.
Real question, wtf is Uldren doing right now and when is he returning in his guardian state? I don't want this plot thread going out to Destiny 3 because like Mithrax, there is so much potential they can work with for Destiny 2.
I’m glad the buff/debuff stacking is being reworked. One thing that hasn’t been addressed though is auto reloading. That completely bypasses part of the sandbox for DPS phases and is part of what makes GLs so effective (aside from their other buffs). But Lunafaction’s and Barricade still just seems too powerful. I’d love to see those effects be reworked to slowly reload your weapons over time instead of instantly (think Titan’s auto rifle exotic) or reload stowed weapons (like auto loading holster).
I don’t think this whole “Armor 2.0” system is going to go over well with the community as much as they hoped it would. Idk, maybe that won’t be the case & I hope I’m wrong but we’ll just have to wait & see.🤷♂️
Why is that?
Oofer Bc it’s essentially the same exact perks & mods that we have now, just with some restrictions & re-tuned to cost a lot more (the armor costs a lot more to uprgrade/Masterwork). And all for what purpose ? It’s going to give you the same effect that it does currently. It doesn’t seem to really have any benefits over regular armor.
Like why spec into Intellect when you can just run 5 Super mods on current armor, or why spec into Discipline when you can just run grenade mods...etc 🤷♂️
I give this video a solid 27 out of 26 cookies and honestly, forsaken brought be back into the game. Then I got super bored with the next 3 content drops and now it’s starting to get me back into it again. So hopefully it stays that way. Thank you for being my news source Datto, wub ya
If and when battle passes come to Destiny? Bruh wtf do you think seasons are?
Well now they are just being blatant about it with today's news. Feels good to be right all the time.
Agreed on cosmetics vs. power. I get the thinking from Bungie, but there SHOULD BE at least one of each type from pinnacle activities: emote, projection, exotic sparrow, ship, and ghost...every season. I think that would go a long way to keeping people happy
28 minutes is "a long one?"
Datto, I come from the school of MauLer. This isn't long. This is downright brisk.
The best cosmetic awards should always be earned through the most challenging content. Won't ever come back until that is the standard system in place for the game.
Unless they make Cosmetics ADDITIONAL drops to gear they can stay in eververse. I don't want to play any activity and get a dam ship/sparrow /ghost in place of actual gear.
You made a really good point about Zero Hour...EVERYONE got it free, which is how these eververse funded things should be actually. Because I guess some guys who don't have certain dlcs may have actually still spent cash on so items...so good on Bungie for including everyone in that.
In other words, I'll wait for the 6 month review.
Shadowkeep is looking strong. I'm skipped out on the season pass for a number of reasons, but I'm excited to be coming back with the new expansion. This really does seem like a new Bungie, the overall vibe I get now is a freer and less strained company.
