I really wish you would do another project like this. The first back 40 was such a beneficial episode for so many people. Please look into doing another back 40 property.
This great content, I had no family to teach me and I learned from a similar program that takes out disabled veterans. Amazing stuff and getting guys in the field can save people.
"I think I need this every year...I think I need deer camp." Truer words were never spoken, brother. Welcome to the tribe. Pretty work here, Mark. Your project is in good hands. Time for your next one!
It’s a cool piece of ground, learned controlled burning there this last summer with The NDA, and have been a member for over 10 years, good stuff with the field to fork program.
I wish you would do a more in depth explanation of why you gave up on the project. I think many hunters fall into the same trap that I'm guessing you fell into with this property. Was it too far from home to reasonably maintain? Were the neighbors killing anything brown, so it was impossible to grow a big deer? Were trespassers a problem? Was it just a money pit and it's cheaper to lease or pay an outfitter for a few good hunts each year? What were the real reasons that this property didn't work out? I think you'd help a bunch of folks if you did a break down. Thanks.
The property/project/area was awesome from our perspective. It wasn't that we decided to give up on it, but rather that the plan had always been for it to be a relatively short-term thing. Two years and then pass it on had been the initial idea, and that's what MeatEater stuck with.
I have also argued with myself on whether I should do something like this myself, and a few of your examples are what hold me back. Plus, without having another "entity" to back me (financially, or with experience) to help/advise with local tax ramifications on a yearly basis as well
@@markkenyon5329 no, you told fans they could win it, had them sign up with their info and their email, sold that info and email, and then changed your minds and gave it away.
There's just no explanation of the joy and excitement that even a close encounter will bring us as hunters, newbie or seasoned, like at 15:48. Also, much respect for still abiding by legal shooting hours, even when so much is on the line. I get it that you're on camera and kinda have to, but I genuinely believe you guys respect the wildlife too much not to.
Great start for these guys! I mentor many people in hunting, and it has been the joy of my life. It's time to get these guys out of the deer blinds on field edges on managed property and into bowhunting 2.0 on public ground, seeking their own hunting spots with a mobile set-up. Keep going!
Was a piece of land I was lucky enough to hunt the past several years that just recently got sold …800 acres of incredible hard wood bottoms big creeks and few open areas ! I always though if I’d had the money to buy it what an awesome place to bring youth and their families to to teach them how to hunt and camp all in one spot but 6 million was a long ways out of my dreams range
You said this land would go to a fan, had people sign up, then sold their email address and gave the land to an organization. That's one way to make money
As much as ur "trying" to mentor new hunters ( a great thing) most of them will have to hunt state land, so ur letting them hunt basically a refuge instead of the real world!! Take them where they'll do most of their seeing n dealing with other hunters!! That's probably more important than what ur teaching them!! State land is a VERY tough hunt!! U have to try pattern people as well as the deer!! N it's not possible!
I wasted a bunch of money on an FL system. All their marino wool falls apart very quickly. Even Cabelas last much longer. Clothes fall apart too. Not worth the money.
@@warrenturnbull3436 Just the opposite. I watched his content more frequently before then. My wife and I recently started watching the newer content for an hour give-or-take after dinner. I think he probably has a small mini-Mark.
I don't believe he 'gave up' on the project. What he did was true stewardship that will benefit not just conservation but create new communities of hunters for future generations. I greatly respect and admire what he accomplished.

Funny, watching the Back 40 again brings be back to the recovery room when I was watching this after we had our now 4-year old!

Great job Mark, your work with the Back 40 is something to admire
I never thought we would see another video out there. God bless you boys for going back

Really cool, I went to the NDA website and signed up to be a mentor because of this!
Thanks Clay!
Great stuff! Fellowship is the important thing about the outdoors for me.

Guessing you didnt watch the original. Its not his private place to hunt its was can we make this an awesome spot and give it to someone..

This is still the coolest thing meat eater has done in my opinion
Glad for this update!
Man I've been following back 40 since 2021
Man this is such a cool concept! Which there was something like this near me. Great work Mark!
Great job Mark
I've found that I've seen more deer in rain during the day then hunts with no rain. Same with snow ❄️
Good luck this season 🤞 get out in the woods!!!!!!
Nice, I wonder about this land every once in a while.
I been on carnivore diet for the past 5 years.
Best decision of my life
This a certified hood classic
Let’s go! 🤘🏻wondered what happened to the state of the back 40 after the handoff.
Mark wishes his mustache was as amazing as Cal's.

Any programs like this in California? Would love to meet a hunting mentor.
Had to google the word "chritened" in the description lol. Thought for a second Meateater had a new fancy word for me but alas it was a typo :(

Yeah. Any comments on this truth bomb Mr. Kenyon? We deserve an explanation.
If I remember correctly, a hunt was offered to fans via signups. Not the property.

A hunt was raffled off, never the property
@@Scott_Seward no. I remember specifically it being a giveaway of the property to a fan. Then it went quiet for a bit, then qdma got it.
The property was essentially a prize to be donated.
Its not their property to keep up with the episodes

Go vegan!
Lol
Why?
Go carnivore
Plants can't even escape at least the wildlife has a chance to get away
