    Previously I was using a Strymon Ojai R30. Low profile yes, but it only has 5 outputs. It uses a 24vdc external power supply to power the box using the same connector as the “extension” connector on Cioks DC7 24v output. So instead of a DC7 I purchased a DC8 and used my existing strymon 24v connection. Works perfect, I don’t have to have an IEC power cord at my pedalboard, and I get an extra output with the DC8. Win, win!

    • @mattgilbert7347
      @mattgilbert7347 3 роки тому

      I was looking at those Strymons. So you don't have to buy another Ojai, you can connect a different PS to it? I was thinking of maybe the big one, "Zuma" - it has 10×500ma outputs (I think)

    • @stomplink6844
      @stomplink6844 3 роки тому

      @@mattgilbert7347 The Zumba has the AC/DC conversion internal. (It uses an IEC power cord that plugs into the wall) but it also has a 24Vdc output that would power an Ojai as an “expansion”. In fact you can buy the Ojai in either a stand-alone version with external
      AC-DC power supply, or as an “expansion pack” that would rely on a separate 24Vdc power source. ( like the Zuma’s 24Vdc output)

    I've owned both. They are both great. The CS6 costs less so it's a great option if you don't need to power as many pedals. The DC7 is more low profile and has tons more power available and is expandable (plus you can charge your phone or ipad off it). IMO the DC7 is more future proof as so many new digital pedals these days are drawing more and more power,, and it also feels more quality. Can't go wrong with either, but budget and power requirements should be the main deciding factor.

    I use a custom sweetfoot pedals supply. One output for the stomp and 3 other 500mA outputs which I split to power other pedals. And it's tiny 4.39 x 2.34 x 1.29 inches. In addition it's under $100. Admittedly I was a little apprehensive going with a smaller co. So far no issues after 1.5 yrs.

    Stupid question. I have a cs6 with a current doubler to power the hx stomp. I didn’t know I could use just one 500ma outlet for power with the adapters. Would I be harming the stomp or power supply by using the current doubler still?

    I have been a fan of the Truetone power supplies for years. I Started with the CS7 and eventually upgraded to the CS12 as my pedalboard grew. I still use both to this day. The CS12 is for my electric rig, and the CS7 is for my acoustic rig. My only gripe is the CS7 has to sit on the top of my board, taking up valuable space, since it’s on a flat board. But now thanks to this video, I know there’s another option without spending too much money. Thanks HWL!

    I use two wallwart 1-Spots and a Joyo PS-04. Joyo on my PT-Metro, it has 10 outputs but am only using 6, with a 1-Spot powering a couple of digital pedals.
    Spare 1-Spot for a grab 'n go situation.
    Time to upgrade, methinks.
    What about the Strymons? I've heard good things about the Zuma. They also have a "modular" system with a smaller one called the "Ojai" - and each output supports 500ma!

      Depends on your pedals. Check each pedal's power requirements; mV's add them up look at how many outs and what they have for use. I use a Caline P-1 pwr unit. 8 outs 5 9v -1 12v- 1 15v-1 18v. Each is minimal 300mV. I've been using mine over 2 yrs with no problems. I see them just at $50. I still think this is so worth it.

    I think it's possible that silence of the whole rig may have to do with the noise gate on the HX Stomp? It's a great power supply and all that I fully recommend, but I think that noise gate deserves some credit in this case.

    This is a great video at the right time. I’m in the middle of building a board. The NUX videos have me considering buying those and I’ve been debating on power supplies. And because I’m on a budget your videos are perfect. I’d chose the One Spot. Might even bump up to the CS12

    • @mattgilbert7347
      @mattgilbert7347 3 роки тому +1

      Those NUX pedals have my attention! They just released a new one, dual overdrive called the "Ace of Tone". It's a Tubeman and Morningstar with a similar layout and routing capabilities to the "Masamune" - including the external jack for their proprietary footswitch.
      An all-NUX pedalboard is looking increasingly likely and (maybe) affordable. The Fireman dual distortion sounds rad, and the Atlantic sounds as good as any boutique Reverb+Delay in demos and whatnot.
      I wish they'd do a dual modulation like a Jam Pedals Ripply Fall - just without the $575.00 pricetag!
      All the tone without the financial pain - that'd be nice :)

    • @RedUnited30
      @RedUnited30 3 роки тому

      @@mattgilbert7347 I agree. I saw the demo for the Ace of Tone and will be getting one when it’s released in the US. The Atlantic and duotime are are also on the list. The Masamune and Solid Studio look good too. I’ve bought a few pedals to start my board. Already have a compressor, boost, amp/cab sim (went with the simplifier) a drive and looper. The NUX pedals would round out and complete it.

    Are there any alternatives to the existing power adapter mess with the CS6? I find that the length of the first piece with green tip, prevents me from fishing the cable to the side of the HX Stomp and throw the rails below. Kind of annoying.
    EDIT: Answered my own question. Both the HX Stomp AND the CS6 are center pin negative. Just get a regular 2.5mm to 2.1mm (non-polarity reversing) cable off Amazon and you're golden. I actually called Truetone and confirmed.

      The CS6 is a great great power supply today I tested it with the Strymon trifecta and 3 UA FX and was a champion, but once I hooked the daisy chain pedals one of the UA wouldn’t power and had noise but I pushed it over the limit and was surprised that it worked. Truetone is a super brand. This time I’ll try the Cioks and see 😊

    Jimmy. You are the man, and I look to your videos for most all of my questions. I have eight pedals (two tube screamers, keeled compressor, giga delay, revelation, volume pedal, chorus, and the strymon iridium) and possibly getting a few more. I'm looking at getting the temple board 24 but I neeeeeed to know and understand what power supply I would need that would fit under the board and be able to power all of my pedals. There is a deal I found with the cioks hi5 and ac adapter already installed for 340$, but that only has 5 spots and they say daisy chaining isn't a big deal with the cioks but idk man I mean is there a better option that I would need to look into? Like maybe just piecing it together myself, also looking for the most cost efficient way of doing this. I really value your advice here man thank you so much for all that you do. God bless!

    Me, I'd rather have the DC7, because by the time you get to the 1600 mAs on the OneSpot Pro, the voltage that you can power your pedals at is lower. At 50% draw, it's fine. 50 percent draw on the DC7 would be 2310 mAs. How many boards would be able to be powered off that and be fine?
