- Richard's wife's dream is to skydive with her partner. There is one problem though: he’s petrified of heights. So, he’s sought the help of VICE's Oobah Butler via his app, Oobah, to solve his issue and fulfill his wife's dreams.
In the wake of sending doubles of himself to collect awards and be interviewed by media outlets around the world, Oobah decides to audition lookalikes and send a fake version of Richard to skydive with his wife and fulfil her dream.
But can he get away with it?

i mean technically, he was sky diving with the diving instructor, so the husband would have been diving with the same stranger. They just dove withitn proximity of each other but they did it individually. That's why it worked. She wasn't Tandem with her Husband, she could have done this all along.
This works until the wife ask to see the show she had been filmed for.
The documentary could have gone over budget and production ceased indefinitely. Investors could have lost interest in the direction it was going.

She was also so sweet when they announced it, instead of just being like "YAYY WE'RE DOING IT" she kept thinking about him and asking if he was sure that he could do it 😔

Some people are just not ok with jumping out of airplanes. There is nothing wrong with that. It's actually kind of sweet that he didnt want to ruin her dream so he came up with a way to make it still happen despite bot wanting to jump. It's not that serious guys.
People think this is horrible but my husband is deathly afraid of heights and I'd rather him plan this out to allow me to fulfill my dream than say no and me never get to do it lol its adorable and creative
That doesn't make you horrible. It is a kind gesture on his part, but the thing is, He was not holding her back. She was. Because she thought she HAD to do it with her hubby, she was allowing herself to make him the barrier and that is unfair to him. That he went through all of that so that she could have the experience that she truly wanted but didn't think she deserved shows that he thought she deserved it whether or not he was with her. Relationships are great but it doesn't mean you have to do literally "everything" together for it to work.
If you loved your husband as much as this man loves his wife, you should let him know you love him despite his fear of heights and that you want him to be there , on the ground safely and confidenlty, when you land to to give you a big hug and say how proud he is of YOU!

This series is more like a moral teaching on 'why you should always be your most authentic self'
Her most authentic self was going sky diving. She shouldn't have let herself think she couldn't do it on her own just because her husband couldn't.
But like, this is a lifelong dream for her and she’s so proud of him for getting past his fears to make that dream come true. I would feel awful finding out that my partner did that. And vice versa, I’d feel awful for doing that to my partner. This just kinda makes me sad.

This is an interesting thought. I’m 6.2” and I’ve got glasses and I don’t like unsafe high places but if I’m buckled or somehow secured it’s not really a problem. I never counted skydiving as a problem with heights tho as it’s so much different than standing on a silo ladder.. Idk it’s by far not as scary imo

It's just a comment.🤷🏽♀️ I only said it b/c some stuff is a good indication of character, and if he's that much of a coward in real life it will bite him in the but at some point. The video is meant to be fun for Oobah and us, but that doesn't change the fact that the people who actually want the service his app provides don't have serious personality flaws that will bite them in the butt at some point in life.
You can see that in his other video like this where a deeply insecure guy hires Oobah to find a double to go to his high-school reunion in his place to make his old friends believe he's more handsome now, and has a "cooler" life than he feels he actually does.
It's really light subtext, but beyond the jokes you can tell Oobah thinks these people who actually go through with this service have some real thinking to do.

There’s an excellent Argentine TV series (fiction) called “Los simuladores” (2002) and it reminds me of this. A misterious group of people that gathered their abilities to simulate situations for people in order to overcome problems with their marriage, problems with the mob, etc. Great vid Vice!
