Yes & horrible what Anorexia did to her that she failed to see. When you look in the mirror & see an 80 lb lady, how is that considered a success & an inspiration to continue the dieting?
They seemed like two genuinely down to earth people and Karen's humility and class makes you think that she'd be exactly the kind of girl you'd have been happy to have married.
It is interesting that the same sentiments were echoed in a radio interview here in Australia in mid-2018 between a veteran(60 years) Australian broadcaster called Philip Brady and the star of an Australian Karen Carpenter tribute show. Philip, then a TV quiz host, met Richard and Karen when presenting a gold record during their 1972 Australian tour and spent some time with them. He described Karen and Richard as" like normal everyday people, I mean ,they really WERE superstars but never acted that way." There was an interesting moment as well when the young tribute star described Karen and Richards parents as "controlling", Philip replied, "but I can remember meeting their parents, THEY WERE LOVELY PEOPLE!!".
I have a real fascination for the difference in a pop star between when you hear them SING and when you hear them TALK. It's like they're a different person. The best example of this is Elton John, but also Karen Carpenter. If you only ever heard Karen sing, you would get the idea that she is this wise, mature woman whose lived a little---and then when you hear her in an interview, she becomes this innocent, playful little girl that she really was in real life since she was just barely out of her teens at this time.
Richard Carpenter was born and raised in Downey on a street called fiddler. The cross streets was Clark and Foster Road in Downey I know I went to school with Karen back in Downey Senior high school back in 1967 and 66. I was in the band with her. They are what they are apple pie and everything else which is very true and I was very honored to have them as my friends.😂
Wrong Richard was not born and raised in Downey California...... Don't know where you find that incorrect info .... Here's the correct info on Richard where he was born and raised.....Richard was born on October 15, 1946, in New Haven, Connecticut, in the United States. As of 2023, he is 77 years old.
Had Karen took a different path of career maybe just playing as a drummer which Karen truly loved playing Karen's life would be some what different than the life she had as the lead singer
I've been listening to the Carpenter songs from the early beginning one song that just is beautiful is song for you this song really compliments Karen's voice I recommend this song to all the Carpenter fans and folk who love Karen's sweet voice ...let me know your thoughts on the song I have mentioned 👍🎶😍
@@Tiffany.1970Seriously! What gives you the right to pass judgment on people you have never met. Karen loved her parents. You don't know their arrangement. You don't know the whole situation. To call them money grabbers, especially Mr. Harold Carpenter, is out of bounds. Mr. Carpenter loved his daughter and it literally killed him after what happened. So before opening your trap and speaking like a fool who got stuck in a hornet nest, you might want to re-engage your brain-that is if you have one. It's none of our business to assume something we don't know 😎
This is really cool to get a rare glimpse into the life of superstars Karen and Richard Carpenter back in their prime! Also loved seeing them in the recording studio too! Karen was so beautiful and healthy here before her mental illness took over three years later and she died of a heart-attack on February 4, 1983 at the age of 32. Richard is gorgeous here.
When an album was 4 bucks and a candy bar was a quarter. When you put a”aluminum foil on your tv antennas and went outside to play because tv was limited to just a few shows. When people could record based on talent rather than a fat wallet. Miss those days.
The Carpenters and their Music have had a Great Impact on My Life Growing Up. I'm so Proud to have Grown Up Listening to their Good Stuff. It's also Awesome how Karen was a Pisces as I Am.
Poor Karen. Never got support from her parents. Especially her mom. That's why she never felt good enough. Her mom would never tell her she loved her or give her hugs. Sad.
When i watched karen carpenter dies 2.4 1983 her dad harold was devastated when he lost his only daughter at such a young age his eyes were in tears i can see the pain of her dad and richard in their eyes but her mother was the only one who didnt cry when her daughter died early.
Karen's Dad clearly was proud of BOTH of his kids. Their mom clearly had a fascination and eyes only for Richard, very strange. So many parents would have loved and adored children such as Richard and Karen. Mrs. Carpenter knew what a fool she looked like to the world after Karen died and how she treated Karen leaked out. My opinion of their mom will never change. I don't refer to her as a mother, because that implies someone who actually is a loving being.

People kept telling her that she was fat and she was chubby as a little girl. The eating disorder wasn't just about not being fat. It also seems to be tied to the heavy touring schedule that they adopted. Sometimes people have difficulty adapting to schedules, different circadian rhythms, jetlag, etc. and integrating a decent diet into that lifestyle. So, I think that also played a HUGE role in the development of the disturbing patterns that formed. Very complex situations.
The performing arts center he and his wife donated to USC wasn't cheap, he has a vast car collection, 5 kids, and charities he donated to. So, Richard has done a lot of good with his money and enjoyed some things himself. Good for him.
Karen looked great there. Her mom seems cold dozen look at her its sad to treat ur daughter like that. l think when Karen started her eating disorder it was destroying her inside of her mom love. and wanted sone from her.
Now i am realizing, what' s gone wrong there...Karen was cooked smaller flame, not much respected....later not got producing her own LP. But I like to tell the world. ..that i ever loved her as free woman, respecting what she liked do...❤❤❤❤I am stil loving her
So sad Karen thought she looked heavy when In today's world she would have been considered perfect for her size. Still do not quite understand how people close to her let this go on. She should have been hospitalized and forced fed or something equivalent to that for that time. Such a shame to lose her

There’s something not right about the parents . Well the mother . I’ve read that the mother was pure unadulterated evil , is that true? I also wonder if Karen wore a hair piece or if that was all her own hair
In the 70s everyone wanted to look like I dream of Jeannie. You could buy a fake hair pony with a braid crown on it for 30 bucks at an Oriental wig store. Then if you wanted a nice real hair one it was about 100.00. I bought lots of those til I got the high dollar one. You put your short hair in a piny tail and you put the crown over it and hooked it in with the little comb inside it then you pinned the crap out of it and you could swing it around even . I grew up.loving to listen to the music of the Carpenters Richard and Karen Carpenter.
Karen would have been a great host on SNL
I can just see her in comedy skits with Gilda Radner!
She totally would have!
Karen was a natural. An actress who sang. Every song was like it was out of a musical.
When Jack Daugherty takes the coat off Karen at 10:20, she is absolutely beautiful! I enjoyed the whole recording studio segment. Thanks for the post.
Gladly I know how beautiful she was because I couldn't tell by the bad quality of this video.
And then Jack stabbed them im the back tried to take credit for producing wich he clearly didnt

Karen will never be duplicated. She was a one-off. Being similar in ways is still not the same thing.

How come Richard owned shopping centers in 1972, and has a net worth of only 12 millions in 2020?
