- In honor of National Preparedness Month we'll take a look at the RUSH 72 from 5.11 Tactical as a travel, tactical, bug-out-bag.

Got the same bag and it's amazing! I use this even for a day hiking because I don't like to compress all the stuff in a 24h pack but always prefer to have extra space for more

If you loosen your shoulder straps a good bit it takes that pressure off your shoulders and allows the waist strap to sit perfectly on your hips. You'll feel your lower body pickup the weight that was once being held on your shoulders. A lot more comfortable hiking that way. I'm 6'2".
Really! I’m 6 ft and it doesn’t seem to sit on my hips. It’s really that adjustable? I haven’t had a second chance to re try it

I have this bag - the inline of the bag is coming apart but what would you suggest on a bag to ruck-march in specially as I’m 6 ft because like you said the 511 bag does not go round my hips
Nice video, thank you!! I was looking for a more realistic review of the 5.11 Rush 72. I had back surgery 3 years ago and I need a pack that distributes the weight really well. I'm glad I saw this review before buying the Rush 72. I'm going to probably go with something like the Eberlestock.

Go Army. Hoo - Ahh. I have to tell you that i absolutely worship my Rush 72 Hour Bag, which i Piggy Back a MOAB-10 as an Assault Pack and the Medical Harness pack makes a Perfect Hood for a very comfortable 2 piece pack system... But it is Not a USMC ILBE Pack System as far as Capacity... So i use my Rush Pack System For EDC, Week End Fishing Trips, and Get Home/But Out Pack System and i have found this configuration to be absolutely perfect for me...
totally agree with you on this pack. I had it for about 1 year and tried to use it for backpacking and hiking. the answer is no no. definitely its famous as a bug out bag. like u said its a gear bag. you're not gonna load this thing upto 5~60 lbs of heavy gears and walk around everywhere..this pack basically has no load bearing capability..the bag is huge though. for me Rush 12 is more reasonable and it's been a great work pack. btw I cant find any vids on your alice pack.

The RUSH 72 is good against a drizzle or some light rain. If you need to travel a short distance such as from a parking lot to a building it's fine. But you probably wouldn't want to be hiking with this in the rain for a long period. All packs like this will get soaked through eventually in that case.

The only draw back to this pack is hip belt. It isn't all that. I found a solution!!! For $20 on Amazon you can get the CONDOR GEN2 BATTLE BELT. It attaches right to the existing hip belt perfectly through the Velcro flaps on the battle belt. I use mine regularly for miles at a time. Ranging from 35-50lbs of gear. And I am 6'2 265
Could you explain a bit further, i'm 6'3, 242, and will be taking my bag out for field test at around 41 pounds. Would love to see a picture of what you wrote about too =)

You're the same height as me. So you'd appreciate the fact the Tactix Day 1 Pack has an adjustable harness, and can carry a rifle.
Now if your wiling to go the eBay route you can pick up some sweet Eberlestock packs for under $200.

I am considering another backpack too and have many already. I was looking at the simillar 5.11 Hazard Prime pack. I have a 5.11 Covert 18 that I really like for most of my EDC stuff. When I was in the service, we actually used the medium ALICE packs so I got one back in the early 80's but decided it was simply too heavy for my needs.
Everybody has great opinions on what constitutes a bug-out-bag. To me, If you have the obvious important quality gear, train with it and maintain it in ready condition, you're gold.
I think I could survive wih the basics and a small pack. If you're resourceful, and experienced, that goes a long ways along wiith preps to survive.
I had a 5.11 AHP backpack for a short while. Well organized, and modular. It's not a bad bag. Also, thanks for your service.
