Thank you for somehow being about the only review of this product on UA-cam (odd with how popular the brand is). Great overview of the product! I agree that the admin section isn't great, but I see it has been "dumbed down" from the old one with less pockets now. Infact it seems like the whole 2.0 had removed more than they have added. The laptop pocket is actually super nice for me, but I'm quite sad we lost at least 5 pockets for it.
Thank you. That really is odd. I figured there would be hundreds of reviews out on that line once the 2.0 came out. I’m definitely going to have to pick up an older one and see how the 2 compare. I’ve heard a lot of people say they are disappointed in what was done to the bag. I personally like it but we’ll see how that goes after getting a older version. Be safe out there.
@@simplepreparedness The 12 and 24 packs have a few videos (still much less than I'd expect) and you seem to be THE Rush72 2.0 video. I'd 100% agree that the new 72 is still an awesome bag, but it used to have 2 magazine pockets in the admin section and a few smaller pockets like the 24 has. Plus the small top compartment had a divider in the back instead of just the mesh on the front flap. It would be hard to call these missing features deal-breaking but paired with the two lost due to the addition of the laptop area, that starts to add up to a lot of organizational space. Plus I don't understand not having drain holes even in the hydration pocket.
I rather confused myself by the loss of the drain holes in the bag. To me that really doesn’t make a lot of sense. As you said, not deal breakers but I think there were a lot of missed opportunities when they redesigned the bag. For me they ccw pocket was a complete miss. I still use it for other things but I could have done without it. I just think they could have done more to really make the bag stand up to it’s reputation. The ccw pocket and laptop pouch are done by everyone. I would have liked to see something fresh. Still I do like the bag and look forward to years of use. I appreciate your thoughts on it. Thank you brother.

Hey, how are you doing? That’s great, I hope you enjoy them. I’ve been thinking about picking up a 12 but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Be safe out there my friend.
@Simple Preparedness Nice video indeed. I ran into same issue when I pulled out the supporting aluminum spine. At 12:53 note that the end cap got pulled off and stayed in that sheath. I had to nudge it all the way out, capped it back and there goes that insert to the bottom. I bought mine today btw :)
I got it figured out. Not a great design in that area but it worked out in the end. I hope you really enjoy the bag. I’ve been getting mixed reviews on it. I’m really curious to see how the newer one is different from the older version. Be safe out there and take care.
Thank you for the info ! Just to let you know, each side of the top handle, you can open the velcro flap to pass trough your water tube at the midle of each squares...
Hey thanks for commenting. I’m kind of torn by this bag. I’ve been getting a lot of comments about how the earlier version was better than the 2.0 so now I’m thinking about hunting down the older one for a side by side comparison.
I received my Rush 72 2.0 today (in ranger green). I like it a lot! Just like you, I pulled the Aluminum bar out from the back plate and the same happened: The lower black plastic cover got stuck inside the channel. This happened to you as well and because of that you couldn't push the bar totally down. The end of the bar did not slide back into the cover easily. I managed to get the cover out and I will fix the covers to the bar ends with super glue. I noticed one more thing: On my bag the bar was inserted upside down. So the bigger arc (radius) was below. I believe that one should be above, but maybe it depends on the individual frame of the owner. Howsoever - I am looking forward to the first test hike on the weekend!
That bar is a bit of a pain to get back in, not sure why it was designed that way. I haven’t pulled mine back out since I got it back in place. I look forward to hearing about your thoughts on the bag after your hike. Be safe out there.
@@simplepreparedness The bar design is basically OK. It forces the plastic plate into a shape close to the one of your frame. My Tasmanian Tiger Modular Pack 45+ has got two of such bars, which works better.
Thank you. Yeah they are a little pricey but it should last many years. Just loaded mine up and it is very comfortable. Ready to get it out and run it through the paces.
I’m 6’5 and I’ve been using the 72 for traveling I tried using the 24 but it looks like a kids backpack on me. So I wanted something bigger and it works great. It’s a really good quality backpack 👍
That’s great. That’s the big thing , what works for you. Being a bigger guy myself some of these packs are more like a lunch box to me. The 72 is really a nice fit. I’m glad you chimed in. Be safe out there brother.
This and the Moab 10 have become my favourite camping, hiking, traveling combo. 5.11 products aren't the easiest to get up here in Canada because they don't sell directly up here.
When the Rush series disappeared from their site I was shocked.....then I got the email about 2.0. Thanks for the video, I was wondering how they would hold up along the originals.
I have put a bed roll on the bottom and had no issues, however the straps I used are only 1 inch. I’m sure 1.5 would fit just fine in there. Hope that helps.
Thank you, I appreciate that. I’ve heard a few people say they use it as a carry on for trips. I honestly wouldn’t know personally since I haven’t flown in many years. Be safe out there brother.
Such a shame that I cannot test this product before buying where I live. I'm a minimalist. I want to get a backpack that can be used for everything. Traveling, hiking, camping, gym, you name it. My question is would it be weird to carry this big of a backpack to everyday use or gym? I know I can go for Rush 24, but I'm 195 cm tall and 90 kilos, so I'm not sure how 24 would look on my back.
Appreciate the question. I try to keep things simpler myself. In my opinion the 72 would be overkill for day to day use. It’s pretty big. I’m 6’4” 220 pounds and that bag is just about right for my size. The 24 or 12 might be a little better but as a minimalist even those might be a bit much. It also depends on the weather in your area and what you would really need to carry. There’s a lot to take into consideration. It’s not a bad bag though and should last a long time. In the end I think the 72 would be too much bag. Hope that helps.
The only upgrade they did to the 2.0 is the larger opening for the glasses pouch, but thats just my opinion. It's a shame that they removed so many pouches/dividers, 8 in total. Even the felt they used for the glasses pouch is cheaper than before. If you can still get version 1 I would recommend getting those, although they are scarce now.
I’ve been wanting a 1 to see what I missed out on. Like you said they are hard to come by. When I do get one I will do a side by side. I appreciate your input.
Greetings from Germany! Thanks for your great review of the Rush 72 2.0! You made me aware that a 2nd generation of this pack was released lately! I ordered the pack right away and I am waiting on its delivery. I used to have the old model and I sold it, because it had too many pockets, especially in the admin pouch. Also, because of the water drainage grommet in the lower part of the back panel, which caused the aluminum bar being too short. So the fit to my lower back was not optimal. Now 5.1 Tactical changed finally, what I didn't like! They removed 4 pockets in the admin pouch and 1 zippered mesh pouch in the main compartment (it was placed above under the sunglass pocket). I do not necessarily need a compartment for a laptop or for a weapon, but I can use them for different purposes.
Germany, that’s fantastic! I appreciate the comment. Unfortunately I never had one of the older Rush 72 bags so I didn’t have anything to compare the new newer one to. I’ve gotten some mixed feedback on the review. I’m glad I was able to help you out though. I recently did a video where I loaded my gear from my Rush 24 into the 72 and I have to say I’m liking this bag. I agree with you about not needing a laptop compartment and ccw pocket. I’ve made some tweaks since that video and now store some freeze dried foods in the laptop pocket and they fit in there absolutely beautiful. Makes the inside look a lot cleaner and more organized. The ccw pocket is empty, it’s just in a inconvenient place and the bag would have been better off without it. I’m 6’4” around 230lbs and I have to say the bag fits my frame incredibly well. I plan on getting out soon and running it through it’s paces. It weighs about 28 lbs but with the support system in it and the waist straps it feels much lighter. I’m looking forward to getting some real world use out of it. Again I appreciate you commenting and hope you’ll enjoy some of the channels other content. Be safe out there my friend.
@@simplepreparedness Thanks for your update! I am going to run the bag in the same weight range like you. Be sure I've checked already your Rush 72 and 24 related videos and I subscribed to your channel, too! Good luck and stay healthy!
@@simplepreparedness, good discussions here and thanks for the good review. Been eyeing this pack for some of my uses cases and have to agree with @o.brygier2364 comments on the 2.0 changes. Looks like a lot of the 1.0 aren’t seeing the new changes as a good thing which just means 511 marketing and products team has to do a better job at communicating and a video explaining why the design changes were made. For me, the pockets are nice if you only have one pack which I have many and lots of use cases. So I use more modular pouches so I can switch bags and just move the pouches to the other bags without having to dig into all the compartments and forgetting some key items when doing this as I’m not diligently checking every single compartment. As for the drain holes, it could be put in the water bottle compartments but better implemented in 1.0 where there is a mesh and water or debris doesn’t come in if place in a puddle. I would just do a DIY if it really bothers you but I figure the thinking was most newer water bottles are air and leak tight so they skipped it but there was a design and logical choice that wasn’t shared. As for the pack, I think 511 are starting to add torso lengths and hip belt sizes for different types. I noticed that you have a long torso and tall. I’m much shorter but I have almost a 21” torso which is same as my brother who’s 6’1” and others your height has shorter torsos. This is important for comfort and load distribution especially where the hip belt need to sit to carry most of the load and ensure no long term back problems. Also not everyone has small or big waist. I’m a 29-30” and on the smaller size while my brother is on the bigger 35-36” so the hip belt fittings need to cover a wide range of waist sizes. I like how 511 is implementing the hip belt velcro to remove it easily on the new Skyweight packs. Maybe I will wait on 3.0 and if some of the implementations done on the Skyweight will move over or a larger Skyweight pack, 45-55L.
They really dropped the ball on there bags. I guess because everyone else was doing a laptop compartment and a ccw pocket they had to jump on the bandwagon. Would have liked to see something new and innovative. Is what it is. Appreciate the comment and be safe out there.
@@simplepreparedness gidday mate, thought it was funny cause here in Australia us blokes use to say big ole in another terminology. Keep up the good work, loved ya video, I hate those videos of folks unpacking all they carry in their bags and they concentrate on their gear not on the bag or product they are supposed to be reviewing.
@@simplepreparedness it's something you say to a female who's a floozy/ tart that is giving you a hard time at a bar to get alcohol and or money out of you and she becomes aggressive and you want nothing to do with her. Alternatively you might have a mate who does a huge fart. With the "ole" just add an "h" to the front of it.
Hey brother. Yeah it’s a good bag and big. You probably could fit a sleeping bag inside but it might be easier to strap it to the bottom. Hope that helps.
I completely agree. Best guess I have is because there’s a laptop sleeve now they didn’t want anything coming in from the bottom when you set it down. Still doesn’t make sense any way you look at it.
Hey my friend. Sorry for the slow reply. I went through the bag completely and all it says is shell 100% nylon. Lining 100% nylon. That’s it. According to the 5.11 website it’s 1050d. Wish I could have helped you more.
@@simplepreparedness thanks man!!! My girlfriend and I travel a lot so I think I’m going to get the 72 for me and the 24 for her! They look like a good dependable bag!
Wish I could have helped more with the material. As for dependable, that I can help with. I’ve used the 24 for a lot of different things and the bag looks practically new. They are very dependable and time tested. The 72 I have not gotten to use yet but if they stuck to their standards that bag will last for many years. I put my complete confidence in the 5.11 line and if you can afford it I’d say do it. Love all my 5.11 gear.
I’m sure this would be a good hiking pack and I’ve had no issues with 5.11s durability. As far as 100lbs goes I doubt that would be comfortable in any bag.
Soldier here. Ive got the rush 72 1.0 and I've had it up to about 70lbs for the field and yes it's comfortable. Definitely better than the issued ruck though it is smaller.
We all have those companies we just don’t like, it’s all good. Lol here’s the link for them. www.amazon.com/dp/B081V8DJ14/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_glt_fabc_TKNAWNZTJQ33HW55EBKS
Thanks for the presentation. Exept the not really used CCW-pouch and the padding in the Laptop storage way less features than in the older model(details in the admin pouch, in the side-pockets sn so on). So i don't think this thing deserve the Name 2.0. Way better to call it "Rush 72 0.75". I am afraid, the only real "improvement" is the pricepoint. Really a shame!
Unfortunately I’ve never had one of the original 72’s. I think I’ll have to hunt around and see if I can pick one up so I can get firsthand knowledge of the way the bag used to be.
There is a small compartment on either side to tuck the waist straps in but they are small and I find it uncomfortable. That’s just me though. Hope that helps.
@@simplepreparedness ah i see, yeah ive had an issue before like that with waist straps being tuckable and just leaving an awkward feeling in the lower back when using it that way. Just needed to know because i may be buying this and using it for work as well and wont be needing the waist straps for those occasions. I was looking into the smaller rush24. It comes with rings to attach a waist strap but im not sure if it comes with it or if you buy it seperatley. I wasnt able to find a waist strap attachment for it on the 5/11 website which is why Im considering getting this rush 72 instead. A little overkill when taking it to work as a daily but I want the straps for when going on hikes.
It’s definitely a big bag for edc. I have my rush 24 as well and even though it has a place for a waist belt 5.11 never made a waist belt. Most people just use a regular belt which isn’t ideal but will work. It’s a hard choice. Best of luck in your decision, let me know which route you decide to take.
Received mine today. Really disappointed because it looks like a cheap version of the old version to me. I think the remove a lot of pockets to reduce their costs but as a long time 5.11 user and lover I'm vert upset. I wanted a true new version, not a prototype. They promote a new (useless to me) CCW pocket and a laptop pocket but remove more than they add. In addition it is more expensive. What a brilliant idea.
A lot of people are unhappy with the 2.0. Removal of the drain holes was another complaint. I never had one of the old ones so I had nothing to compare it too. I could have done without the ccw pocket and laptop pocket myself.
Yep. All the bags and about 98% of everything on here is bought by me. The little that’s not is sent by friends. Nothing on this channel is sponsored in any way shape or form.

Thank you for becoming a member of the family here. If you ever have any questions I’ll be more than happy to help out. Take care my friend.
Maybe I will wait on 3.0 and if some of the implementations done on the Skyweight will move over or a larger Skyweight pack, 45-55L.
definitely for a tall guy a 72 rush is just right, i'm 6'+ and i find the 24 small already
I agree. I’m 6’4” and that Rush 72 is a nice size for me. Feels like a legit backpack.
You think you could put a armor plate in the back reinforced spot instead of that plastic thing? I wonder
There’s definitely enough room for one. That’s a good idea. Be safe out there brother.
@@simplepreparedness Same to you, thanks for the quick reply bro
No problem. I always try to get back to y’all as soon as possible.
i don't know what they were thinking with the mid section open. When it rains am i collecting water in there or something?
They really dropped the ball on there bags. I guess because everyone else was doing a laptop compartment and a ccw pocket they had to jump on the bandwagon. Would have liked to see something new and innovative. Is what it is. Appreciate the comment and be safe out there.
Count the big oles, funny.😃😃😃
Gotta have fun.
I didn’t know that lol. I’ve fallen into that gear trap myself but things are changing. So what is big ole. Lol
@@collector7993 that is absolutely hilarious. Thanks for that. I needed a good laugh.
Hei Buddy. Do you still like this bag? Does a larger sleeping bag fit in?
Hey brother. Yeah it’s a good bag and big. You probably could fit a sleeping bag inside but it might be easier to strap it to the bottom. Hope that helps.
@@simplepreparedness Great. Thanks for the quick answer. Have a good one bro. 😊👍
Absolutely brother.
Fckn laptop bag with molle
The old version one love.
Unfortunately I never had the old one. I’ll have to hunt one down. I do agree the laptop pocket and ccw pocket were unnecessary.
예전 모델 72가 있는데 새로 나온 2.0 너무 갖고 싶네요! 멋집니다!
You got me beat on that one lol
@@simplepreparedness Creator Celapa I have an old model 72, and I'd love to have the new 2.0 too! It's nice!
The only downside with this new pack, no drainage outlets. The original had three. Why they didn't implement this in the 2.0, I'll never understand.
I completely agree. Best guess I have is because there’s a laptop sleeve now they didn’t want anything coming in from the bottom when you set it down. Still doesn’t make sense any way you look at it.
I’m buying this bag but I can’t decide, black or kangaroo???
Also is the kangaroo material like easy to stain and scuff? That’s why im debating on kangaroo or black.
It’s all personal preference. I prefer the tan look.
The probably will show dirt a lot easier than the black. One of the downfalls of light colored bags.
Can you tell me if the nylon on this bag is 1000d or 1050d every Paige I click on gives me a different spec and was wondering what the label said
Hey my friend.
Love all my 5.11 gear.
it look like rush 24 funnn
They look about the same. A few differences.
Will the be good ruck hiking or durable for having closing to 100lbs in it?
I’m sure this would be a good hiking pack and I’ve had no issues with 5.11s durability. As far as 100lbs goes I doubt that would be comfortable in any bag.
Soldier here. Ive got the rush 72 1.0 and I've had it up to about 70lbs for the field and yes it's comfortable. Definitely better than the issued ruck though it is smaller.
I’m going to have to get one of the older ones. I hear a lot of good things about them.
i wont talk about why i hate the rush 72 and 5.11 in general but i am very interested in where you got those mini plate carriers behind you?
We all have those companies we just don’t like, it’s all good. Lol here’s the link for them. www.amazon.com/dp/B081V8DJ14/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_glt_fabc_TKNAWNZTJQ33HW55EBKS
@@simplepreparedness yup sure do btw i love those thank you for the link
No problem at all. Happy to share. They are pretty cool.
Do the waist straps tuck into a compartment or are they always sticking out?
Great video! Do you think you can use this backpack as carry on luggage in an airplane?
I haven’t been on a plane in a while but I don’t think this would work for that. It’s a big bag.
I was wondering too, have you used it as a carry on bag on the plane?
I haven’t flown in many years my friend. I would seriously consider using it if I did though.
You’ve earned yourself a subscriber. Extremely well done review. Thanks
Thank you, I appreciate that. Welcome to the family. I hope you’ll continue to enjoy the videos. Be safe out there.
Hi, is this allowed for carry on baggage in the plane?
To be honest I have no idea. Other than just being big I don’t see where anyone would have a problem with it being used for that.
Probably not under seat
Is that the new kangaroo color?
Yes it’s the kangaroo.
how tall are u ??
I’m 6’4”
codura nylon which one better?
Not sure what you are asking.
not a fan compared to Rush72 1.0 I want to R and D the next bag
I’ve heard a lot of people say that. I’m going to have to grab a 1.0 and see for myself.
Очень хороший обзор 🤩👍👍👍🤝
Спасибо, мой друг
how tall are you?
6’4”
hm did you buy rush 72 2.0?
Yep. All the bags and about 98% of everything on here is bought by me. The little that’s not is sent by friends. Nothing on this channel is sponsored in any way shape or form.
Amp packs are better
I completely agree
Too many pockets
Have a lot of people saying it’s not enough pockets. Not the same as the old 72.
Wonder why they removed the drainholes
Not sure about that one myself. Guessing so it can set on the ground and bugs or moisture won’t get in.
What color is this?
That is kangaroo.
@@simplepreparedness thanks. Looks great
Thank you my friend
