There's a ratio of inside rim width to tire width that gives maximum tire volume. If the rim's too wide, the tire is overstretched. If the rim's too narrow, you get the "lightbulb profile."
Good example of rim being too wide for the tire; Look at that thread on top it is flat! So is the sidewall. The tire profile almost looks square. This tire profile will cost rolling resistance and handling smoothness.
Yeah, they look pretty square on the thread part. It should be a more round shape. I’ve ordered a pair of 30mm for Enve’s 4.5 with 25mm inner width, and I’m starting to think they will be too small.
@@outdoorbros_ no doubt they will roll but that profile is not optimal for rolling resistance or cornering. A lot of teams use Corsas in TdF, compare the profile and see the difference, no one has just side wall on the side, the thread’s shoulders should slope. On a side note, Pogi runs 28mms on C25 enve this year and his tire profile doesn’t look like this for whatever reason.
I will never understand y people care what size the wheel comes in at. Almost Everyone is mesuring the extra width of the sidewalls instead if the actual tread that u ride on. And of course their number r different from rider to rider, most of us have different wheels and tires
I get the same measurements with GP5K STR, 35.5 with the 32’s. I have two sets of these wheels for my gravel rig, so I was able to compare the different sizes and I was pushing 20 more watts with 32s mounted to maintain the same speed at around 20mph, so maybe an aero issue?
If you like the wide wheels, I also have the 52/63 on my Supersix with 30s, they are supremely quick and lateral stiff, and much less affected by windy conditions compared to my older Tokens Konax Pro or Duraace c50s. They also have a 25 internal width, but a little wider externally to maintain closer to the 105% rule.

I’m using 28c Schwalbe Pro One, and it goes 31.5 for front and 31 for the rear

I have around 500 hard miles on them now and they’re great- no issues.
Totally fine on my Reserves. Had a friend use the same size on his 3.4’s and no issues.
