I have read 3 of Sanjeev Sanyal's books. The facts are woven nicely into a great story. Even school kids would enjoy reading these books. Whenever i read or listen to him, my heart skips a few beats out of excitement. We need more and more people to dig up Indian history.
I am so glad to get a view about real history...I always had this question that how come after ruling for years Britishers left just like that on the request of Gandhi...seems so unconvincing. Feel proud that bloodshed and other sacrifices were not useless in front gandhi' s movement. Thank you for an eye opener speech.
South India has played an equally vital role .This must never be suppressed in the newer upcoming narrative In fact it should be more highlighted on a national scale
Nobody tells Indian History like Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal, making it personal, engaging and even amusing when needed. I wish he was my History teacher. Salutations to you sir for doing a great service to mankind. Much love.
In Kerala there is a hero, Pazhassi Raja. There is a great memorial to him in Malabar. The docent there was very knowledgeable on my visit last year. There were a few visitors, but definitely need more. Students should go for history field trips to fill the gaps in school history education.
Looking at the strength of south Indian movie industry , we would love to watch movies based on these grand stories. The storyline is definitely more interesting than “Dunkirk” like movies. We can have our own revolutionary universe based on real recent history.
Very inspiring talk on revolutionaries. In Andhra agency area ( then It was in Madras province) there was a revolutionary by name Alluri Seetarama Raju who inspired and trained teams of rebels in around circa 1925.He fought with feudal forces and police.Looted guns of "Rampa chodavaram" "Adda teegala" , police station. He operated these revolutionary forces for few years and later caught and executed by British police along with his key persons .There is a popular moovie on his biography in Telugu. The picture's name is "Alluri Seeta Rama Raju" .Moovie producer and lead actor is Krishna.
Congratulations Sanjeev Sanyal! You are erudite and a good researcher. You have given a penetrating account of the armed struggle that failed so many times. The alternative history needs to be told along with history of Manipur and the role of the Tibetans who assisted the INA in Imphal. I visited the museum and the shack where Subhash Chandra Bose hid. A little history of the INA movement and the establishing of the Army is present in the records and photos on the wall. The lack of any history of the NE, the tribal resistance among the hill tribes is sadly never part of the chatteretti discourse that gather for talks and conferences in DU. No department of History in DU Colleges has any reading material of the history of Assam and the Frontier provinces. 🙏
Ballavbhai Patel acted against Subhas Bose within and outside of Congress Working Committee. His elder brother Vittalbhai Patel who was a true patriot broke away from Gandhi and formed Swaraj Party with Chittranjan Das and Motilal Nehru. On his deathbed in Switzerland Vittalbhai met Subhas Bose and donated an asset for Azad Hind Fauz. Ballavbhai Patel confiscated that donation in the Bombay High Court. ‘Jai Hind’ slogan and INA marching song was banned in the Government ceremonies until early seventies. Subhas Bose is still recorded as a War Criminal in the UN.
It's always an honour to listen Sanjeev sir! He is just extraordinary... The kind of facts and stories he put out certainly makes us able to think other side of history which hasnt given due attention in our mainstream Curriculum...bt the efforts of u will surely help in changing that perspective
This lecture by Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal is very illuminating and much impressive. I wonder about how much public support the revolutionaries enjoyed in India at that time. Many other reasons are important for Indis'a independence like non violent movement, Britain's economic downturn, change in world order and rise of usa to take Britan's place in the world stage. There is still lot of ground to be covered. Sanjeeb deserves lot of credit for starting the conversation. Thank you so much.
Fantastic Story and a fitting Tribute to the Bravehearts who contributed so much towards our freedom. May their efforts be glorified in the new history of India . Vande Maataram 🙏🇮🇳
This is a great talk. I did my schooling in Maharashtra. And we were exposed to all of this information either through the history textbooks and the biographies of freedom fighters in school library. Savarkar was the first one to document the revolt of 1857 from the Indian perspective. One can disagree with Savarkar's ideas in later years but they should overlooks his contribution and personal sacrifices for the freedom struggle. He spent 10 years in Andaman and another 16 years in house arrest.
at 33:17 he refers to the revolutionary Sachindranath Sanyal along side Rashbehari bose ... how did he not brag about the fact that he himself is direct descendent of Sachindranath Sanyal !!! (I believe Sanjeev is Sachindranath's great great grandson.. at least that's what wiki says)
Another important member of the Anushilon Samity, Mr Jyotish Chandra Ghosh, too was from Chinsurah, as well. Vande Mataram was written in Chinsurah. The hose still exists. It's under ASI.
My school though affiliated to CBS E, didn't follow ncert history books. School had its own books covering chola, Vijay nagar, Sikhs rajput history. Private schools should follow the suit and teach true history and not the Khan Market history.
Excellent ressurection of the role of the revolutioaries of our freedom movement who fought a vain and futile battle though not outright succeeded but contributed to a large extent to our independenCE but were pushed to oblivion by the mainstream Congress who dismissed their contribution and propagated the role of their non-violence struggle solely responsible for our freedom . Many generations have been fed with this one sided history which is a great injustice to our unsung heroes. It is high time we bring them back to mainstream history . Thank you very much Dr Sanjeev sanyal for your enlightening speech on revolutionaries. It has been an eye opener us all. Thank you.
What a wonderful way of telling the story of revolutionaries in a connected way 👏👏 We can see a pattern of the way the strategies of the revolutionaries are connected from 1890s till 1946. Ofcourse the way Rashbihari Bose and Satyendranath Sanyal carried their operation post first world War till woth HRA and INA of the 1930s and 1940s. One important character not covered was Arjun Singh, uncle of Bhagath Singh
I am shocked about the Yashpal. We were taught his work in our Hindi books. And here I was of the impression that only our history books are crap. Also, I have heard stories that many prominent authors, poets were brainwashed by the KGB to drive the communist agenda in the Indian literature. About Netaji, well there is no doubt in my mind that Gumnami baba was Netaji (Read Conundrum by Auj Dhar and Chandrachur Ghose ). The forensic handwriting evidence is decisive and almost unquestionable. Its time we accept his second life and force the government to reveal his life and activities after 1945.
sir sri subramanya siva had rested in final days in pauparapatty in dharmapuri district 636829 . the high school is named after him . he built a temple for bharath matha on hogenakkal road two kms from school. i and my two elder brothers are students of that school. sadly what history lesson we read was hiding all these facts.
Mr.Sanyal has done good research on Indian history in particular, the talk was informative. What surprises me is the fact that, most of his videos are on historical topics. He is India's principal economic adviser. I haven't heard anything of depth from his side regarding the state of Indian economy of present and what lies ahead in future. Are we really lacking good journalist's who can ask though questions and demand answers or this has become a trend. India's current economic condition is very stressed out and we are all looking forward how the Govt. is going to revive it.
Mr. Sanyal your lecture is awesome. You shoud write a book on this. As weell as you should condem the role of of plitician who thought that indipendence came through non-violence. We are ashemed that the indipendence did not came through khadi dress oiling with the British Raj. Thank you.
Wish in history books of school we had these two chapters, The revolutionaries from North and South in the struggle for Independence. Feel so deprived not knowing these contributions.
A great talk about the contribution of the revolutionaries. I am sorry that the story of Surya Sen and the Chittagong Armoury Raid did not find a place in Sandals impressive lecture.
It's not supposed to be an expansive history in this lecture itself. It was a presentation to say exactly that - that a lot of important characters of Indian history are left out in our history.
Mr.Sanyal I don't know if I am right but among all the armies which fought on the Axis side, the only army which did not formally surrender to the allied powers was the INA. So our INA can be proud that while the Japanese Army and the German Wehrmacht surrendered they did not formally surrender .
Start new chapters in our History books especially of the Delhi Board by rewriting it and giving more light to contributions by our revolutionaries to our freedom struggle.Let the younger generation know and decide if we got this hard fought Independence by peaceful means or through the contribution of our revolutionaries.May God give our historians a sense of true enlightment and show them the correct perspective.
A trail should be created of the places these revolutionaries lived/worked or carried out operations against the enemies of India, so students locals and tourists can visit!
People from Odisha who keep shitting about Bengal and indulge in frivolous Rasagola wars must listen to Sanjeev Sanyal, a Bengali, who perhaps has far better knowledge of the proud and rich Odia history than most Odias. It is very pleasant to hear him call Odisha Odisha and not Udisha or Urissa or Orissa like most outside Odisha and some inside Odisha do. But I am sure most Odia do not fall into any divisive Bengali-Odia narrative and value our shared history. Most Odia come from very humble background and yet they never shit about their country and traditions. We Odia are a patriotic lot and will remain to be so. We all are same, we all are Indians first.
I would suggest few names of illustrations persons like Sh Sanjay Dixit, IAS, Sh Neeraj Attri, Mr Ankur Arya, Mr RVS Mani, Sandeep Dev, Maj Gen GD Bakshi, Sh Pushpendra Kulshreshta, Mr Sushil Pandit, Sh Vivek Agnihotri(Film Director, Producer), Sh Rajiv Malhotra. And Few more friends are there... Who can contribute, coordinate and give suitable shape to the Text of Indian History .
Although this talk was published almost a year ago... but still relevant to understand some of the failures of revolutionaries before our independence ....however post 2014, BJP under PM Modi has assumed role of colonial britishers .. where they want to suppress even common citizens... leave aside revolutionaries... its sad to see systematic dismantling of public institutions such as CAG, CBI, RBI, Supreme Court, Parliament, Defence, Police , BSNL. And many more...
Excellent revelation. What happened to the INA prisoners who were kept in near Kolkata and subsequently massacred by Britishers. So pathetic incident. Is there any video or book. 🙏🙏🙏.
Talk with full of fine facts, narrative that India needs ahead,we must leave and forgot Gandhi for better future, sacrifice made by revolutionary, I think Sanjeev sanyal is also a revolutionary by with his knowledge and writing skills he will free India from the leftist, Marxist narrative of Indian history than we will be independent in true Sense. i pray to God that Sanjeev sanyal lives long so we can get history which is not taught to us in school, and India can become the golden Sparrow again.
Why this channel is not get public attention.. please do something ... Where fraud lallantop.. very bogus and suspicious activity handler is getting subscribers in a large amount... Please promote your channel 🙏
If we were told the true history of India like shri Sanjeev Sanyal is telling now, we would not worship Nehru Gandhi like demi gods. may be that was the idea of our leftist historians who are enjoying the fruits of freedom along with congress party.
Sanjeev that house is still there. The street is named as Arobindo Sarani. There's a palque which tell you about the ' Alipore Boma Kelenkari'. I don't know if the Boma matta still exist. I am from Chinsurah, Hooghly. Kanailal Dutta and Rashbihari Bose were born in Chandanagore. Just 4 km from here. Infact, Kanailal Dutta studied in Mohsin College, Cinsurah and the Hindu hostel of Mohsin College, Cinsurah is named after him.
Excellent as always Sanjeev sir. ❤️❤️ Don't understand noise of south obsessions of some. As he was speaking on India's independence from revolutionaries perspective. Which includes south north everything.
The dimwit Prakash Javadekar should have been made to compulsorily made to attend such lectures. The foolish minister flaunted his incompetence as his achievement by stating that they haven't changed a single History book in 4 years of Modi raaj.
Actually india never got independence. India which doesn't made anything forget defence equipment, notveven dams, engg institute. That's why presidential democracy is designed. Who is taking long term decision of India. Indira Nehru also contributef a lot as both diplomatically got grant to open engg colleges, of ndusyrial complexes and Nehru was very smooth Indira was little blunt she granted fundsbfor satellite, rockets, nuclear bombs but being a slave country opposition was funded after nuclear bomb testing. And she was assaisanted when she did grant permission for development of indeginous aeroplane.b
Have studied about Marathas cholas cheras pandyas etc in school (1974-1984) And it was the Ashoka's and the Mughals who almost unified India. India was a bundle of many kingdoms prior to Independence and it is impossible for a child to learn about the whole history as it will sum up to a Himalayan curriculum. Every ruling dispensation will put up their agenda. If Congress gave importance to freedom struggle and their leaders the present government will definitely dilute freedom secularism and pluralism. History will always remain distorted. By the way was this the financial advisor who advised the government on demonitization???
Sanjay Sanyal’s understanding, info is hotch potch. Unworth incidents lot of attension, worthy items ignored. More like revisionist theory in the name of nationalism. Waste of time. Look else where for more in depth on nation’s history, culture, heritage rich tradition.

Lolz
Completely agree with you buddy. Us North Indians are sick of the Delhi centric history being taught to us
To divide India British develop a fake theory of Aryan and Dravidian, sad reality is people also believe such theory.
Yes, you are right. But we Indians are taught about morons like EV Naicker instead of brilliant revolutionary fighters of the South.

Modiji. Pls select him, Rajiv Malhotra, Mandana Mishra to rewrite Indian history books, from the lowest to the highest level.
I also wish this to happen.
He is a close affiliate of Modi .
kyu bhai..abhi ki.history mai kya problm h?
It should be historical scholars like sanjeev Sanyal not religious scholars, go see rajeev malhotra and Nityananda video
Rajiv Malhotra is not good enough
Time is running out very fast.. Rewriting of our Indian History should be done with Top Gear by all concerned authorities..
India got freedom because of the great people of india, not becoz of Gandhi or Congress party
