Thank you, your video "4x4 broken" saved me hundreds! I was having the same issue that you had shown in the video when changing from 2 wheel drive to 4. I purchased the front wheel drive actuator off Amazon for $107. It worked out that I was planning to do a gear oil change so I was able to do both at the same time. Everything is good as new now.
Such a good feeling when you can diagnose and repair something on your own. Nice work my man! I'm not nearly as handy with repairs, but this gives me hope if my truck ever reaches this point. Ha my 2022 Longhorn doesn't even have 8,000 miles yet. I need to get on it!
I have a 2019 Ram 1500 since new with 55k miles currently. I have had both cracked exhaust manifolds replaced the last month of the powertrain warranty. Even a 20 year ASE master tech like myself can apprecaite you taking the time to make these vids so I know what to be prepared for.
Love your content. This makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside - my Limited won't get to the miles yours does, but good to know what i'm getting into. Keep up the awesome work!!
Your vids helped me make my decision to buy my new 2021 Ram 4x4. This series has been great! I only have 23K miles on it but it is an awesome truck. I bought my 2001 Silverado new in 2000 and it has been amazingly reliable. But I didn't like the new Silverado's and test drove the Ram and this truck is awesome! Quiet, quick and fun to own...thanks for this series!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I was having the same issue, then started doing some research & came across your video. Thankfully it was only the Actuator. Keep up the good vids man. Subscribed!
@@MrJustinWheelerthanks for the video. I just swapped my actuator out. Not a ton of fluid lost. Is it worth filling the front dif back up, or was it not enough fluid lost to worry about?
I was hoping the fix was going to involve the Deko stick welder, but still a great video. As I've said before, Ram owes you a commission as this series helped convince me to get my Ram truck last year.
It happened to my 2019 DT twice. First time under warranty, fixed, second time refused warranty because there was oil all up in the connector harness from messy oil changes. The filter sits right above that harness and oil can get inside. They blamed me the second time. Thanks FCA!
I have the exact same car and model with almost 150,000 KM and got the exact same problem yesterday so I hope it will get fixed as easily as you did it. thank you sir for sharing this video
I have a 2020 Ram 1500 BigHorn. I've been having this issue since i bought it. I have only needed 4wd twice. This last time, it finally locked in after several minutes. I will definitely be doing this soon.
Always look forward to your videos! Thank god this one was quick and easy for you, haha. Definitely going to keep this nugget in the back of my head if my 4WD ever goes out. Same as you, I have a good 4 months where I need it in winter. Keep up the good work!
The wiring connection was the hardest part. Blast it with wd40 before the fight. I also don't know how he got the part out with the wiring still attached. I had to get the wiring off first, then the shift motor twisted upright and turned 180 from how it sits in the truck. Then you could get it out.
I have a 2004 Dodge 1500 (before they became RAM) with the hemi, and what I like is how easy it is to get at things. I replaced the alternator last year, and was quick and easy. Had a O2 sensor go bad and was $30 and took 15 minutes. Had the same sensor go bad on my 2010 Acura MDX and took 4 hours and $100 to replace. I swore I'd never buy another vehicle with engine mounted sideways. And my Dodge has surprisingly been more reliable than the Acura. I know RAM has a bad reputation, but I've had great luck with mine.
I haven't put my 2012 into 4x4 until yesterday on Sunday and it's been well over 2 years since I did it as I live in Florida. No problems, went right in. Is there fluid in my front diff ..... 🤔🤔🤔 I hate finding another problem when fixing another one. Nice to know this if I ever have a problem like this. Thanks
You're like the foremost expert, on this Gen Ram 1500, thanks for taking all the hits 12:21 to inform us. Quick question, do your front USB ports(ones below the screen) ever stop and start working? I'm looking for a fix for mine a lot Android Auto.
Read once that with a Ram, you should shift your truck into all drive settings at least once a month, supposedly this helps keep the systems in working order. Not certain how true that it is, but have been doing it just in case.
Thanks again for great content and info on the ram, as I have the same vehicle minus the 4X4. Question for you though, have you ever had any issues with your GPS/Nav system? I am and it seems as if I’m not getting any connection to the satellites and I just wanted to ask you and the group before I head to the dealership.
Hey justin 👍 Very nice congrats! Yeah it feels good as you said when repair is that easy! Thanks for that, knock on wood...just incase my needs require that in the future 😊 As i have a 19 rm limited aswell just maximum steel color... Id like too rewind back too the brake check video i had too oddly have the same finding on the front pads at 160k/kms in miles about a 100k in mile being in ontario canada ....anyhow my rear pads were in the total opposite condition prob 90% of my rear pads have evaporated over that duration i wondered if it had relation too? Maybe adaptive cruise uses rears too a % or something but have a look at the rears too make sure when you get a chance see if you can relate...maybe maybe not but other than that calipers are all good! Great video keep up the great videos and updates 👌
I have a 2019 1500 Laramie and it’s always something with this truck. Every time I fix something I think “that’s gotta be the last thing for awhile “ The last 3 months I’ve replaced the water pump, right rear brake light, and now this. Btw if your dash ever shuts off and just blast your defrost full blast it’s a bad ground in your right rear brake light.
My ‘19 makes a stripped gear sound on the transfer case when trying to shift. I’m curious if these work together to shift together and indicate to one another and if one doesn’t go the other won’t shift properly? Seems like an interesting system.
I really hope this is what wrong with my rebel!!! I’m wondering if it’s a damn big puddle I went through few weeks ago from a storm. Just annoying I only have 100k on my dash
I just performed this same fix yesterday (1/23/24) on my '19 Laramie. Part came out easy enough, but was a bear trying to get the new one back in. When I realized the 4WD was inoperative, a code scan reported a C147B (Front Axle Disconnect Sensor Circuit Performance), U0403 (Implausible Data Received From Transfer Case), and U0415 (Invalid Data Received From ABS Control Module "A". After replacing the Front Axle Disconnect Actuator, everything is working properly. However, the codes remain in the system and will not clear using the BlueDriver scan tool. The codes are part of the "Enhanced" codes specific to FCA vehicles. Did you perform a diagnostic scan after you finished? I'm curious to see if others are having the same issue with the codes not clearing. I'm about to head to AutoZone to see if they can read and clear the codes. I'm also wondering if these are some of those codes that automatically clear after a certain number of drive cycles. Anyhow, good job on the video. Thanks.
Same exact issues but my truck started this 4x4 nonsense at 53k miles. Not including the active air dam fault, leaking rear light, laggy gps, and sometimes this weird groaning sound when I coast. Truck was probably built over an Indian burial ground.
I’ll never understand why manufacturers stopped using the manual gearbox with the shifter by the console. I have a 2020 Silverado dually and I went out of town for over a month disconnected my negative battery terminals to keep the drain on the batteries low and came back hooked the batteries up just to get a bunch of codes for the parking brake and 4x4 not shifting bunch of BS that you can’t simply disconnect a battery anymore without having to take it to a dealer and have them reset modules.
No idea what you’re talking about. It’s shift on the fly PLUS this is an electrical issue with the solenoid and I fail to see how that could be caused by shifting into 4 when moving if you’re not supposed to.
*4 wheel drive, 2 wheel drive, 1 wheel drive... whatever it is, this truck is making it to 1,000,000 miles!!*

Nothing wrong with preserving on them if you can!
My 2021 only has 23K on it as of yesterday...love this truck!
My 2020 dually has 58k plan on this being my retirement truck even tho im 25😂😂😂
And here I am with my 22 with 51k miles 😂

I bought my ‘21 for partially the same reason 🤙
This reminds me of my Jeep Comanche. It had air actuators. When you were saying what was wrong I was hollering, it's the actuator! Great video!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I was having the same issue, then started doing some research & came across your video. Thankfully it was only the Actuator. Keep up the good vids man. Subscribed!
The more than a tablespoon but less than a gal killed me lol and gotta love a self diagnose fix actually fixed the problem
Thank you!

This is truly one of the best vids I have seen
I hope my ram last as long as yours. At 100k now and just had to replace the water pump. But that’s been the only thing done to it over 3.5 years
No electrical issue ? Any software issue?! My 2019 is like a liberal hot wife. Gorgeous but no brain

@@MrJustinWheeler and this is why you’re a man of the people! Very kind of you. Thanks Justin!
Keep up with the excellent content 👌
Thank you for making this bro, been looking for this fix for months
Thank for a great and helpful video. I have 2013 that works now and then!
Thanks for the great content sir. Your videos are simple, truthful and informative.

Very nice!!!! Everything I learned about my vehicle is from your videos. Have you had your media hub glitch or possibly stopped working?
Not yet! Fingers crossed. 😅
Excellent video! I’ll keep this in mind!
If only the Tesla was this easy.
Hate doing oil changes on the Hemi Rams....but they're great trucks! As soon as I saw the title and the beginning of the video I thought "actuator!"
Thanks so much for these vids!

Love this content! Glad it was simple for you to fix.
Thank you!
Thank you for this video. Saved me a bunch of money.
Wonderful 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Thank you So much for sharing this. I have a truck just like it so far zero issues!
for your next video try cleaning the camera lens with a microfiber cloth. It’ll make a huge difference in the image.
LOL 😂, the problem was the overhead lights.
Yeah sorry about the glare. First time filming in the new garage. Will work on that!

75k miles this same this happened to me thankfully extended warranty took care of it

When are you going to do a fluid sample on the transmission?
250,000 miles

Holy Smokes same here at 53500
is a new gasket needed? What type of fluid is in there?
Huge question! When did you change your coolant? And when or did you change your transmission fluid and filter?

I know what I'm doing next weekend
Ya’ll ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait till the all electric Challenger comes out.
Yo I’m a have to do it , mines same problem
How can a truck have so much problems?!
It’s funny my is the same model but 2020 and also im at 75k miles
So is there a engage sensor on the actuator unit?
Mine has 200k on it same problem
I just fixed mine without issue. Took me 20 mins.
Has anyone kept MDS and has high mileage without issues or is it best to get a tuner/computer and turn it off.
The problem is on the grill.
The solution too.
Your not supposed to shift while driving only in park.. do not switch 2 x4 4x4 while driving u pretty much messed up your own truck 😂😂😂😂😂
Shift on the Fly my friend. Be even more wrong next time.
No idea what you’re talking about. It’s shift on the fly PLUS this is an electrical issue with the solenoid and I fail to see how that could be caused by shifting into 4 when moving if you’re not supposed to.
Have you ever had code p0304
My ram is still under warranty for 96 months or 75,000 miles 🤔 i only have 18 600 miles in 2yrs so I'm ok 👍 good cheap fix 🛻🛻🛻
