I've been told by my band director that i will be receiving my dream instrument, the french horn, by this christmas, if not sooner!!! i seriously can not wait!!!!! (im in the 6th grade band)
When he jumped to that high C at the begining of beauty and the beast my jaw litterly dropped. I play French Horn decently but this is incredible. The Disney fan and french horniest in me love this so much.
You both inspired me to do horn, it all started with Patrick's cover of viva la vida, and Marc's tribute videos to John Williams.... and i was originally a percussionist! and now i'm first chair at a 12th grade level in an 8th grade band.... so keep doing what you horn gods do!

I know I’ve commented here before. But I just had to comment again. Whenever I feel so lost with horn I revisit this. Like someone else said, These “9 minutes in heaven” give me the motivation I need when I need it to get better and better. After I graduate, I know I will never stop playing horn. There’s so many fun things with it through every challenge. It’s a very difficult instrument, but hearing even my own improvements each day is worth it all the way. Right now I have something in the way for range (braces) but once they come off I’m going full force!
Marc, You have been such an inspiration in my life. For the past 3 years your videos have been the sole factor that kept me motivated to keep going on with my music career. Its been difficult but thank you
The hand of God touches some, but He surely holds Marc firmly in His palm. How one can do ANY of the things done in these videos is an amazing feat. And Marc does them all, unbelievably creative arrangements, beautiful syncing with the video, and playing that is the most talented and expressive horn playing that I have ever heard. We are fortunate to have You Tube to be able to partake in these masterpieces. Thank you God and thank you Marc, you make life fuller and richer.
Alan Menken is truly a genius. Very, very few composers in the world can do what he does. He's tackled so many different genres throughout his career. He understands all of them and captures a unique musical identity with each project. What he did through the 90s was just phenomenal.
Thank you ! The original piece is breathtaking, an absolute masterpiece :) I guess when played only by horns it makes things a bit more.. epic maybe ? ^^
Ok also a French horn player and I almost quit last year (in secondary school now) but I stuck with it and got my braces off and got some great solos! It’s so motivating to hear this guy play and to see people listen too

So at 1:29 you play a high D above the staff. What tips can you recommend for expanding one's range to play notes that in that high of a range and still having them sound like notes, not just futile whispers?
TRY FOR THE NOTES!!! If you keep trying you will constantly be able to pop out high notes. A couple of years ago a high c was un-fathomable, but I practiced playing high notes and now I am somewhat consistent with high c's (and high d's).
First off, you must hear the note. The intervals are so close together that you have to know what you're trying to play. Secondly, the key to high horn playing is air. You need lots of support from your diaphragm. When playing high for a while you should feel it in your diaphragm not your chops. It does take chop strength to hold the enbrochure, but you need to let the air do the work. Also, high horn tends to get a harsh sound because people start closing off their air stream. If you say "E" then that's a good physical example of how people's throat feels when it starts closing off, but if you say "O" then you get the feel of what an open mouth and throat is supposed to feel like. Anyways, I could go on and on, but those are a few main points about high horn playing.
@Angel Gutierrez I'm not exactly sure what you mean that your notes sound the same nor do I quite understand what you mean by your second issue either. Without being there to monitor and help you, I can't fully assess your problems, but some common problems with buzzing are 1stly that. Don't think of it as buzzing, because that makes you believe the power comes from your lips. What should be happening, is your lips should be doing minimal effort and your air should be driving the sound. Gentle set your chops and put your mouthpiece to them with light pressure, and when you blow it will vibrate automatically. After you get that going, you can then start adjusting the engagement of your chops to produce a better tone. Your chops and air should work in harmony with each other, and it's about finding the right balance. The mouthpiece placement does also make a difference, but that's dependent on your own physical attributes, so just experiment to find where your strongest, and best sounding positions are. I don't know if that helps, but good luck with those issues!
@Angel Gutierrez If all of your notes are sharp, (I grew up with the same issue), then your embouchure is probably too tight/tense. Relax your lips and tighten the corners of your mouth and it'll give you a better tone
With this video, you have reminded me how respected animators should be in their hand crafting of individual frame that each could work as a peice of art on its own, as well as the greatness that are the composers that write under the umbrella of Disney.
Increditble! Your range, intonation and arrangement are phenominal. A true talent. Plus, those high notes! A true pleasure to listen to, that I was hoping would not end. Thank you for the great number of hours that obviously went in to your preparation of this!
