I knew Bobby in his later years. He was the father of my neighbor and spent the summers there. I had him sign my picture cover of Monster Mash and the records I had including this one. Both of my singles were original Garpax labels from their first releases and he said he never saw the sleeve I had. I hold them as the top value of my record collection. I have other records probably worth much more, but the sentimental value of these is higher. RIP Bobby. I miss those days.
This brings back the joyous times in the early sixties, when we just had fun. In this present, my now, this song is still just as fun to listen to as it was back in the early sixties ~~~ ~ Rock On my Brothers and Sisters
I once had this song on cassette tape but it happened to be recorded by Lon Chaney, Jr. of all people. I don't think that recording is on UA-cam but it could be. Chaney Jr.'s recording happened to be on a various artist tape called "Christmas Comedy Classics". It may still be available on Amazon in some format or another. The collection arrived in 1985 on cassette and 1991 on CD.
It was the night before Christmas when all through the castle My monsters were having a Yuletide hassle The tree was all trimmed in ghoulish things Like werewolf fangs and vampire wings (It was a monsters' holiday) But they were up to no good (It was a monsters' holiday) Didn't act like good monsters should (It was a monsters' holiday) They found themselves a new play (It was a monsters' holiday) They planned to rob Santa's sleigh They were making a list and checking it twice Frankenstein wanted a shiny new trike A new chain for Yarnush A brace for Igor's back A speed shaver for Wolfman A new cape for Drak (It was a monsters' holiday) But they were up to no good (It was a monsters' holiday) Didn't act like good monster's should (It was a monsters' holiday) They found themselves a new play (It was a monsters' holiday) They planned to rob Santa's sleigh The Mummy was to signal from the castle roof At the very first sound of a reindeer hoof As Santa slid down the chimney wall The zombies were to make off with sleigh and all From beyond the moat, there arose such a clatter I jumped to the window to see what was the matter Like a bolt of lightning, it happened so quick And there in our midst stood old Saint Nick He began to dig down deep in his sack And came up with the traction for Igor's back Drak got his cape Franky's trike made him behave Even Wolfman was happy, now he can shave (It was a monsters' holiday) And all ended well (It was a monsters' holiday) And Santa was really swell (It was a monsters' holiday) No need to rob Santa's sleigh (It was a monsters' holiday) Maybe next year he'll come back So the children everywhere were spared the grief Of losing their presents to a monster sleigh thief Now the monsters love Santa and say they'll behave And never again rob sleighs or graves (It was a monsters' holiday!) Igor, what do you think of Santa now? "Arrrrrr, Santa good!" And Santa said as he drove out of sight "Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!" Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way Oh what fun it is to ride in a one-wolf open sleigh Dashing through the snow Where is that reindeer with the red nose On Dasher and Dancer and Comet and Cupid
perpetual61 I believe Yarnush is just a play on the name Janos, which is Hungarian for John. I think it's in the song Nightmare Mash by Billy Lee Riley as well.
No, that happened around Halloween in 1974. I was a young musician then and I liked it so much that my band and I included it in our Halloween shows from '75 onward. As for this song, I heard it the first time in 1988 on a novelty cassette. And yes, it was indeed Lon Chaney Jr. I'm 68 now and retired from the music business over 30 years now, and to this day all that great old music still rings in my head.

Very cool
So fortunate, even never knowing him it's certainly a loss with his passing.
Great story, thanks for sharing!
This is forever my favorite xmas song!
Bobby Pickett was an excellent entertainer ❤
Even the monsters celebrate the holidays. It's a christmas song that should be on the radio during the holidays
Fun fact: I've been playing it myself a couple of times after I came across it in the late 2010s early 2020s.
This brings back the joyous times in the early sixties, when we just had fun. In this present, my now, this song is still just as fun to listen to as it was back in the early sixties ~~~ ~ Rock On my Brothers and Sisters
What a great song!
Who'd have thought the concept of Halloween and Christmas together was possible decades before "The Nightmare Before Christmas" immortalized it?
Because it snowed at Halloween time of 2020 this what made this the perfect song for this year.
It also snowed on halloween in 2011.
Here after Halloween we switch to this song.
ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHRISTMAS SONGS! R.I.P.BOBBY (BORIS)PICKETT! THANKS FOR SHARING! R.K.3/14/2021.
The best song forever

ACcountryFan Yes, Chaney's version IS on UA-cam now. I just listened to it. Enjoy.
OMG Bobby didn’t let any of his tunes fall far from the original formula. Hahahahahahahhaa!!!
Oh yeah; the song was great, but he was very much a one trick pony.
Thanks for posting. My four-year-old's favourite song this christmas. Cheers!
Classic!
Love it 😍 I bet this was where the idea for Nightmare Before Christmas was born!
This is the song I walked down the aisle to
Merry Christmas!🌲🌲⛄⛄🎅🎅
This needs MORE air time around Christmas.
.
Unfortunately I have never heard of Canadian radio playing this song. Only "Monster Mash" with limited airplay
I only heard this once and it was when I was like... ten or so. For years I thought I had simply imagined the song... glad to know I wasn't
He did the Halloween song Munster mash and this one pretty good to
Wow love it! :)
Excellent!!
Awesome!
Robbing Santa's sleigh? That's pretty funny right there - what a great sequel to the Monster Mash!
I wonder if he had to pay Boris Karloff royalties?
Didn't know this song even existed. Great!!!!!
1st November anthem
It was the night before Christmas when all through the castle
My monsters were having a Yuletide hassle
The tree was all trimmed in ghoulish things
Like werewolf fangs and vampire wings
(It was a monsters' holiday)
But they were up to no good
(It was a monsters' holiday)
Didn't act like good monsters should
(It was a monsters' holiday)
They found themselves a new play
(It was a monsters' holiday)
They planned to rob Santa's sleigh
They were making a list and checking it twice
Frankenstein wanted a shiny new trike
A new chain for Yarnush
A brace for Igor's back
A speed shaver for Wolfman
A new cape for Drak
(It was a monsters' holiday)
But they were up to no good
(It was a monsters' holiday)
Didn't act like good monster's should
(It was a monsters' holiday)
They found themselves a new play
(It was a monsters' holiday)
They planned to rob Santa's sleigh
The Mummy was to signal from the castle roof
At the very first sound of a reindeer hoof
As Santa slid down the chimney wall
The zombies were to make off with sleigh and all
From beyond the moat, there arose such a clatter
I jumped to the window to see what was the matter
Like a bolt of lightning, it happened so quick
And there in our midst stood old Saint Nick
He began to dig down deep in his sack
And came up with the traction for Igor's back
Drak got his cape
Franky's trike made him behave
Even Wolfman was happy, now he can shave
(It was a monsters' holiday)
And all ended well
(It was a monsters' holiday)
And Santa was really swell
(It was a monsters' holiday)
No need to rob Santa's sleigh
(It was a monsters' holiday)
Maybe next year he'll come back
So the children everywhere were spared the grief
Of losing their presents to a monster sleigh thief
Now the monsters love Santa and say they'll behave
And never again rob sleighs or graves
(It was a monsters' holiday!)
Igor, what do you think of Santa now?
"Arrrrrr, Santa good!"
And Santa said as he drove out of sight
"Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!"
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
Oh what fun it is to ride in a one-wolf open sleigh
Dashing through the snow
Where is that reindeer with the red nose
On Dasher and Dancer and Comet and Cupid
