Phil Lynott the lead singer was once asked "what's it like to be black and Irish" and he said "Like a pint of Guinness" pure genius.
@Doc Marten YUP! He's the true Black and Tan sweetie! I LOVE HIM~YES, HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN MY SECRET BOYFRIEND! 😂 #ExBartender #GenXBikerLady
LOL....I have been asked the same, and I just say ...I got the best of both worlds. lol
Phil was badass ! Cowboy song is a must.
@@vandalayindustries3057 That is a genuinely famous thing that happened and it's great because of the response he gave to it, which was pure genius. This was in the 70s when asking these sorts of questions happened a lot because here in the UK at least boarding houses would commonly have signs up saying no blacks, no Irish. I'm glad things have gotten better here since then but we still have a long way to go.
@@vandalayindustries3057 What?
At a gig in England, Phil asked “ any ladies got any Irish in them?” which got a great reaction ..
then he asked “ would any ladies like some more Irish in them?” .. place erupted.
Phil Lynott was a complete legend. He is missed very much in the UK and Ireland. R.I.P.
And the United States ???
@@Mojo19692lizzy never break american market
It's hard to imagine that some people have never heard this before. Bands don't kick ass like this anymore.
That`s why it is fun to watch these reactions...
Back in the late seventies we danced like crazy to this! At 67 years old, my knees are screaming “NOOOO”.
Mine too!
I know what you mean girls!
But your head says 'YES'
@@Shining_Whit and your heart says NOW ! 😎❤️
They opened for Queen, my very first concert! 🤩😍😊
The lead vocals and bass player was late Phil Lynott, a young , black Irishman who made a great impact on the music world. His death at the age of 36 was a tremendous loss for the industry.
Fuck the "industry". He was a loss for music, period.
@ Correct. The "industry" killed him one way or the other, no doubt in my mind.
Thin Lizzy were epic - such a shame that Phil Lynott died young: they would have been one of the biggest bands in the world, no question. I love his singing: the smokey tone and the 'lazy' timing, where he comes in slighty behind the beat are so engaging. Loads of good suggestions below, but one I haven't seen is my favorite, Don't Believe A Word. You can't really go wrong with Thin Lizzy. Loads of artists have covered their stuff too. Check out Sade's cover of Still In Love With You for a gorgeous, very different take on the original. Alas, there's no good quality video for it so you're best off with the audio-only version.
I saw them give a free concert in my local park in Dublin when I was a kiddo. It was epic!!! Part of a run of free summer concerts.
I seen Phil Lynott's last performance on 18th December 1985 at the Ulster hall Belfast with Gary Moore playing parisienne walkways he died 22 days later 6 Jan 86!! Its on youtube.
Yes, Harold! this was "anthemic" as was Jailbreak - my other favorites include "Dancing in the Moonlight" and "Cowboy Song" - and of course, "Whiskey in the Jar" -- I so them open for Queen when I was a teenager - I was major Queen fan, but was hugely impressed, especially by Phil Lynott - he was magnetic!
Lizzy could do rock, metal, ballads, pop songs, like an Irish Queen and as talented.
The band out of Ireland that really hit pretty big. The song used to get played on the radio constantly.
Yes they did after Horslips opened the door for them and U2 and Lizzy to go further.
Thin Lizzy is probably the most criminally underrated rock band in history.
You can add them right after UFO.
@@charleslord4502 UFO is one of my favorites as well. And you can put Saxon and King's X on that list of underrated bands.
Add them to the list with UFO, Blue Oyster Cult, Horslips, and Jethro Tull.
No they are not.
@@sretePtraB so are you saying you don't know anything about Thin Lizzy or just being a troll?
"Whiskey in the Jar," "Cowboy Song," and "Dancin' in the Moonlight" would also be good choices from this band. One thing they are famous for is that twin guitar sound.
Whiskey in the Jar is a great song!
Cowboy Song is very good
Chinatown
Emerald
Cold Sweet
Massacre
A lot good songs 🤘
Both Dancing in the Moonlights! King Harvest and Thin Lizzie had two different songs but both in the same vein! Soft dreamy songs!
"Jailbreak" is another good one.
Man,when a band can recreate the studio version, with just enough difference to show that they're playing live ,that makes me a VERY HAPPY CAMPER!
His vocals live were impeccable.
"Jailbreak" is your next Thin Lizzy song.
Jailbreak is another jam 🔥, Phil Lynott & the great Irish rock band Thin Lizzy 🍀
The entire "Jailbreak" album is flawless.
Phil Lynott, the coolest man of all time. When he was asked, “What is it like being black and Irish?” He said “Well, like a pint of Guinness”
He was so cool i feel guilty for not being as cool as he
I agree. You could take Phil from any point in his career and slot him in a modern setting and he would still out cool anyone.
The guitar player you see with the long blonde hair, John Sykes, is the guitar player you will hear on all of the Whitesnake hits you have or will react to. He wasnt in many videos, he had been fired after the big album was out, yet that is him on the guitars on those songs, and if you like him, he has a band called Blue Murder that is really good, sounds just like Whitesnake. He also reformed Thin Lizzy and was the singer and guitar player with them for over a decade till he went back to being a solo artist/recluse.
Thank you for pointing out John Sykes. He's the reason Whitesnake finally made it big after years of struggling.
This song came out in '76. RIP Phil Lynott! Such a great group
Geddy Lee, the lead singer for Rush, is a bass player, so you have heard another lead singer who plays the bass. Did you know that Rush was inspired by the band "Yes" and even inducted them into the R&R Hall of Fame? Please, play some Yes. They have so many great songs. "Roundabout" would be a great place to start.
Several bands have had bass players as lead singers...Cream, Mountain (on some songs) and Robin Trower.
Jack Bruce of Cream anyone ?
"Roundabout" is one of my favorite songs of all time, although Genesis is still my favorite prog rock band ever. Would love to hear them react to "Supper's Ready" by Genesis. 23 minutes and 5 seconds of prog rock perfection.
Sir Paul is also a bassist. this was 70.'
Don’t forget Sting
My absolute favorite Band. This isn't even their best song. They have incredible songs and Phil Lynott was such an amazing song writer and loved the double guitar attack. So so great.
This song's chorus has been used in so many sporting events. Wrestling, boxing, darts, football, hockey. You name it, its been used.
Back in late '92 and early '93, when the Dallas Cowboys were making a run at the Super Bowl (after sucking pretty bad for 5 or 6 seasons) there was a local radio station here in southeast Texas that began playing The Boys Are Back In Town several times per day in tribute to the team. Oh, how we Cowboys fans loved jamming to Thin Lizzy's song every time it came on the radio. How 'bout them Cowboys?!!!
It's always been associated with the beginning of baseball season where I live.
Boys Are Back in Town was their biggest hit, but check out Dancin in the Moonlight by them for a little different sound...
Tune bud good choice. May be still in love with you would be a good choice.
Phil Lynott, African-irish lead singer, composer and bassist for Thin Lizzy...R.I.P.
His father was actually from British Guiana, (no Guyana), which is in South America, so technically he is not African-Irish.
Looks like Mo doesn't know this time,...he's not African
@@tommccafferty5591 did he meet his father or did his father know that he had a son and who he was? There was a documentary out this year , made it look like he looked for his dad in London but gave up
@@lmc4964 I'm sorry, but I don't know if they ever connected.
@@lmc4964 yes his father got his mother a place to stay in England, she was Irish and had a mixed raced child so it was hard for her to find a place to live without family or friends there. She ended up sending Phil to her Dublin when he was 4 because he was being bullied. She ended up having more kids but give them up for adoption, because they could have a better life with a family. She waited until her parents died before coming out and saying about the kids she give up for adoption because she didn't want her family to know.
RIP Phil Lynott. The boys were back in town...and the town was DUBLIN, Republic of Ireland.
Phil Lynott, black, Irish, genius, musician, bass player extraordinaire, wonderful singer but unfortunately an addict that could never quite get clean, still missed in these parts, and loved.
The Boys Are Back in Town was played in the film Beverly Hills Cop so you may have heard it there.
Loved the sentiments regarding Phil and the band, Eamon. Being a big fan of Thin Lizzy here in the U.S., I always wished I could have seen the greatest Irish rock band live. Sad that Phil died so young. The band was really getting popular here.
@@chuckhutton5087 - Thin Lizzy were huge in Canada too.
Nobody cares about what race he is, it’s his singing and performance that makes him great
Great song. "Jailbreak" is another great one by TL. So is "Whiskey in the Jar" (which was covered by Metallica!).
That song dates back to the 1700’s, so everyone who recorded it covered it.
Their song Bad Reputation is awesome!
Yes! These two songs!!!!
Patrick EMERALD is one of there best song imho
One of the guitarists for Thin Lizzy was Gary Moore. He went off on his own for a solo career. You should give his song "Still Got the Blues" a try. His guitar solo is what really kills it... He really makes the guitar cry... Try and get a live version if you can. Another great one by him is "Empty Rooms"
Out In The Fields with Gary Moore and Phil Lynott is a great song.
Gary Moore doing "Parisienne Walkways" Live is fantastic especially the extended guitar solo
Gary Moore
is the guy who SRV loved and tried to emulate.
I can't believe this but I had no idea Gary Moore was in Thin Lizzy! I LOVE GARY MOORE!
So much makes so much sense right now!
Moore, one of the great guitar virtuosos of the rock era.
Derry says thank u. Phil is one of the best bassist ever. What a voice. Ty again
While on the subject of Gary Moore, "Parisienne Walkways" is another that has to be seen to be believed. What a brilliant guitar solo. Look for a live version.
Outside of radio play, I know this song was in the movie "A Knight's Tale" along with a bunch of great 70's songs.
The use of the music in that movie was INCREDIBLE. I was amazed when I saw it in the theater, so not what I expected, and so much better. Great family movie!!!!
Also in Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte movie " 48 Hours"
@@ericsherer3505 actually same title, different song.
A great movie.
On the DVD extras of "A Knight’s Tale", the director or producer explains the reason they used these songs. They wanted to show how each generation has its own "cool" activities and music. So using contemporary music for a period piece film would give this feel. I love this movie so much!
Thin Lizzy were formed in Dublin Ireland and were highly influential because of their twin guitar harmonies s , check out ...dancing in the moonlight 🎷(sax solo) or jailbreak or cold sweat (amazing guitar solo ) most metal icons have covered a thin Lizzy song they are legends .great channel guys .
Don't forget Whiskey in the Jar-O (Thin Lizzy's version and Metallica's) and the Cowboy Song.
@@jackwells8107 hi Lizzy have too many great songs to mention ,love all the albums , Brian robberston and Scot Gorham amazing ,Gary Moore on the black rose album John Sykes is amazing on thunder and lightning album.legendary stuff .
Jail break is one of the best rock songs
His mum was the landlady of the whalley pub in whalley range in manchester, there were always in there.
Dancing in the moonlight my personal favorite
One of the best get up and dance songs at our local rugby club. I 've loved this since it came out, but only just heard the lyrics. ...... get your knickers down!!!!
One of Rock's Greatest Hits !!!!
Thin Lizzy are the "OG's" of the Twin Lead guitar sound in Rock !!!
The late Phil Lynott (vocals and bass) with his gaelic soul and the twin guitar by Scott and Brian, so good. Coincidentally this song comes out in Detroit Rock City (which I sent) one of the movies you unboxed today.
In this particular iteration of the band that is John Sykes (Tygers of Pan Tang, Whitesnake, Blue Murder and solo), incredible guitarist and quite good vocalist in his own right. Other than the guitar solo on Here I Go Again (overdubbed by A. Vandenberg), he is responsible for all the guitars on the incredible 1987 Whitesnake self-titled album. Too much ego for he and David Coverdale to co-exist for very long, but that is not Adrian Vandenberg or Vivian Campbell playing guitars on that album, even though they appear in the videos and we’re in the touring band that supported that album. Nothing against either one of those guys, love them both. Dio’s 1st 3 albums with Vivian are my jam too, but have to give credit where it is due to Sykes. If you have never heard the first Blue Murder album, check that out as well.
You forgot to mention Brian Downey - one of the greatest and most unsung drummers ever! Technically pretty much perfect...
He was born in England
The song was used in an Applebee's commercial and was part of the Toy Story trailer and its sequel.
It was also used in A Knight's Tale with Heath Ledger.
Wasn't it on the Ghostbusters 2 soundtrack?
The outro tune in The Expendables movie.
Phil Lynott's mum ran a pub in Manchester, UK. Some of the people that frequented the pub were "members" of a well known group of business men from Manchester that were referred to as the Quality Street Gang and, although running legitimate businesses, they did not accept inappropriate behaviour, though the response was usually very violent. The group often had to leave Manchester to avoid scrutiny by law enforcement authorities (as per Jimmy "the Weed" Donnelly's book). According to Jimmy the Weed the title of the song "The Boys Are Back In Town" was a reference to the gang returning to the UK after having left to avoid investigation. Some of the places referred to in the song by Phil Lynott e.g. Dino's (from recollection) were places the group of business friends/Quality Street Gang would frequent in Manchester. My dad's (deceased 2022) cousin, Jimmy Riley (deceased 2021), was part of the group and is mentioned in Jimmy's book. I couldn't see an explanation in the comments so thought I drop it in for more understanding.
I was 10 years old when this was released. I remember going out and buying the single from my local Woolworths and walking home feeling very grown up. I have always wondered how massive they would have become if Phil had lived because they were a Terrific band.
If Phil wouldn’t have died, thin lizzy would’ve been one of the biggest rock coming out of that time. IMO Talent wise their dueling guitars which were some real heavy hitters are equel to Iron Maiden. They could do slow songs and could most definitely do heavier and faster songs. It’s shame we never got to see where they would have taken their music
YEAH.....Way ahead of their time too!
I have always believed that Thin Lizzy as one of the first to play solos with two guitars inspired bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden etc. with that dual solo with one slightly off pitch solo. Cowboy Song is another great Thin Lizzy song to react to Rob-Fam.
Hadn’t they already changed to a one guitar attack with John Sykes prior to his death?
Actually, by the time Phil died, Lizzy had long been disbanded and Phil had done some work with Gary Moore, most notably the awesome songs Military Man and Out In The Fields. There was no talk of him starting the band back up. But I do feel that had he lived, there would have been a resurgence at some point. In my opinion, Phil Lynott was one of the greatest lyricists of all time. Everyone defaults to Jailbreak and Boys, but songs like Black Rose and Emerald are just so epic and amazing. I think Ace Frehley covered Emerald on one of his solo albums. Ace has great taste in music, as well as flash and balls (some old school KISS fan will get that reference).
@@demonhoopa hi the for the thunder and lightning album( their last album )John Sykes and Darren Wharton joined with Darren on keyboards to make a five piece for that tour ,
I paused what i was watching on youtube to catch this one.. Once I saw Thin Lizzie I had only one choice to make, Pause the playlist and catch this one. Lizzie wre the group that were the influence for many other bands you hear today. Phil was one in a lifetime. a Pure genius and an Icon. Proud as an irish man to have had such a top grade Irish group like Lizzie.
Their Live and Dangerous live album is possibly the best live record ever, certainly up there with Purple’s Made in Japan and Maiden’s Live After Death
Yep, put it on in the car, crank that player to level 11, they do not make records like that anymore.
Not forgetting "No Sleep til Hammersmith" 🤘
One of my favourite rock songs. Phil was such a talented writer and performer.
Paul McCartney also is a bass player and lead singer. He is considered one of the best but he is very humble about it. He plays many instruments.
Paul… humble??! 🤣🤣🤣
The very best Bass player is Carol Kaye. An amazing bass player. She is a session musician she has played on over 10,000 songs has books and devoted to everything in bass world with her Fender Precisson bass. Now in her eighties I keep in touch with her every year on her Birthday & Christmas She started as as a single mum in the late 50s and is renowned worldwide by the music industry even. Paul McCartney
Another lead singer/bass player is Lemmy. Completely different style of music though.
Chris squire from yes,one of the best bass players
I was getting ready to say Paul McCartney. Glad I ck the comments! LOL. I grew up with a family of guitar players. Nothing like the sound of 2 guitarist jamming off each other.
The group Foghat did this in their live concerts. Ck out the video of 4/25/1997 concert. (There's other live videos btw) This video shows up close their playing skills. RIP Rod and Dave! May you both keep jammin in the rock n roll heavens! (The Righteous Brothers)
Best Thin Lizzy song...however..I always liked "whiskey in the Jar" !!!!
My favorite Thin Lizzy song is between this one and Jailbreak
I really like Metallica's version too.
This was always a late spring classic. When you heard this you KNEW that summer was almost here. So many memory's and emotions rapped up in this song!
Wow, I guess I, along with many other's my age(62), were quite fortunate to have seen most of these band's live (in the day).
And how good is the fact that most of the concerts can be found on the web. You do know there are not enough day's in a life time to hear "everything" but, don't stop trying.
Peace.
Yeah mate. I'm 60 and saw these guys in the late 70s. I've seen some huge name acts live over the years but none better than Thin Lizzy. I remember when they came to my town like it was yesterday and it fills me with joy.
They did a take on old sea shanty called “Whiskey in the Jar”, that is absolutely choice.
And made it their own!
An awesome version of the traditional Irish song. And then almost 20 years later, Metallica did an almost note-for-note copy which had great success and didn't credit Thin Lizzy. :-(
That's not true Metallica, did credit Thin Lizzy for Whiskey in a Jar. They originally recorded it for their Garage Days Revisited album, which is entirely a covers album and cited it was a Thin Lizzy cover. In fact they said in interviews, they didn't know it was a traditional Irish folk song; they just thought it was a Thin Lizzy song.
My personal favourite of theirs, what a fantastic track...
@@thesedreamsarefree The Thin Lizzy version is far superior to the Metallica version. I first heard the song as a kid on my great-uncle's old gramophone playing a scratchy 78 of someone singing the song. Of course, it's interesting hearing your name, one as rare as mine, in a song.
A great Irish band
Lead singer Phil Lynott (RIP) always played Bass
He was the leader
Various guitarists over the years
Check out whiskey in a jar
He was Black - Irish.
One of the best bass players with it! He played a custom made Fender Jazz Bass, but he had a mirror fitted to the body of his bass, so he could reflect the light to pick out members of the audience. Their stage presence and performance were epic!
Phil Lynott is still missed.....Absolute gem 🙏😍!!! The boys Phil is singing about are not them. This song always puts me in a good mood and especially this live version 🎸🎸🎸 Love your reaction 💜
I think it is them actually hehe!
@@thesuncollective1475 No, It's not. It's a gang that stayed in Phil's mom's establishment as far as I can remember. 😉
This came out right as my older brother and I came home from college for the summer, so I kinda always thought of it as our “theme song” for that summer.
Geddy Lee the lead singer of Rush is one of the best bass players ever and also played the keyboards. Though it was their GOAT level drummer Neil Peart who wrote all the lyrics that Geddy was singing.
To do with ‘Lizzy?
@@stormbringer76 Did you watch the reaction where they talked about not having seen a lead singer play bass guitar before? They have seen Rush so they probably just forgot which is something they do a lot.
That look when Amber caught the "get your knickers down" line. 😂 So many reactors miss it.
As far as never seeing a lead singer play bass... You've reacted to several other bands who have a bass-playing lead singer: Rush, The Cars, The Police, and Motorhead.

Imagine saying that now, you`d get shot.
"Get your knickers down" at 6:19 or shortly thereafter. If you're an internationally-known rock star, you can say that and plenty of women will say yes. I heard that Mick Jagger would often use the chat-up line "Let's make a baby".
One of the most underrated vocalists ever!☘️🇨🇦
Jay and Amber. Check out "Frankenstein" by Edgar Winter group. "Get Ready by Rare earth", last but not least "Hocus Pocus by Focus", you might just love it, but it will take about a week to get over!
Oh, man, seeing them react to 'Frankenstein" and especially "Hocus Pocus" would be amazing, although I would suggest listening to the album cut of 'Hocus Pocus' instead of the more common live performance, only because you get to hear Jan Akkerman's solos better. He is IMHO the most criminally unknown guitar players of the '70's. The man could SHRED.

Frankenstein Live version. Not that the studio version is not great.
Listen to Gary Moore: Still Got the Blues. He was part of Thin Lizzy for a while. It is pure emotion channeled through a guitar.
I would add Parisienne Walkways. But much of Gary moore hits were gems.

Wow!! This song is just as great live as the studio version how can anyone not like this song even BON JOVI made a cover to this👍👍👍🤟
They were so, so good. RIP, Phil. ❤

as much as I liked Journey I bet Thin Lizzy kicked their ass. Sounds like a "wish I was there" concert😎🎸🎼🎵🎤😍🎹🎉🎉🎉🎉
I love watching you two get along, and how you talk through things.
My favourite band, Phil was a true star, and lived the rock and roll lifestyle to the full. Try I’m still in love with you, songwriting perfection IMO. A real shame he died so young.
A fun experiment one day would be to listen to a traditional version of "Whiskey in the Jar," a sea shanty from the 1700s, then Thin Lizzy's cover of it, then Metallica's cover of it. Listening to those three together is a really amazing experiment in music - everyone has the same song to work with but they make it their own so they're all very different songs.
And The Dubliners first to put the song on record😀
@@giggsey100 And none of them with a single thing to do with the sea.
Thank you for playing some Thin Lizzy! If you get the chance they have a live album where they play this song then go right into the Cowboys song, its a classic!!
Everyones heard this song. These guys were international from Ireland, UK, American members. They were ahead of their time, wrote alot of hits. Saxophones were always played by Supertramps sax player.
Love Thin Lizzy! Other great songs of theirs are Whisky in the Jar, Dancing in the Moonlight, Out in the Fields, Still In Love With You, Emerald, Jailbreak (which was a double-A single with The Boys Are Back In Town in 1976), Don't Believe a Word and Waiting For An Alibi. Phil Lynott had amazing stage presence, he was also brilliant as the parson Nathaniel in Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds.
Thin Lizzy were famous for their 'Twin lead guitar' sound. Phil has an iconic voice. I loved the early days with Gary Moore (he is worth looking up too).
@2:35 that snippet of the chorus "the boys are back in town..." has been used in multiple commercials, TV shows, and movies. It's nearly impossible that you've never heard it previously.
This song came out in '76, a great year for music.
The twin guitar sound is a trademark of Thin Lizzy. They used it to great effect throughout their history. I especially loved it on their, 'Black Rose', album. 'Do Anything You Want To Do', and, 'Waiting For An Alibi', are perfect examples.
Other great Lizzy numbers are "Rosalie", "Emerald", "The Cowboy Song" to name a few; but to my mind, the best is "Still in Love with You" from the live album "Live and Dangerous"......check it OUT!
I came here to suggest "Emerald".
My wedding song!
Yes, yes, Yes!! 🙌🙌
Absolute classic just play this about midnight in an Irish pub and see what happens..It's awesome guys.

The coolest dude ever born in Ireland...Phil Lynott!
Seen these live with that lineup, front row at Hammersmith odean in London in the 80s great band and brilliant live, RIP Phil
Thin Lizzy is such an underrated band. "Wild One" from the show top of the pops would be the next Thin Lizzy song you should do. Mostly because I think Amber will really like it. It's a bit slower but the dueling guitars are still on full display.
Legend has it that if you listen to Thin Lizzy alone at night the ghost of Phil (the singer) will come to you and say "please tell my mother I'm sorry". This has happened to quite a few people over the years. I'm not sure if this still happens or if his mother is still alive.
Philomena (Lynotts mother) passed away in 2019.
@@spinsk5071 Wow. God bless and keep Philip and Philomena Lynott in His heavenly care. Probably not necessary in his Mom’s case, but for Phil the old Irish blessing is appropriate… “may he have been in heaven a half-hour before the devil knew he was dead”. His beautiful music will always stand the test of time.
"The Cowboy Song". Thin Lizzy's greatest banger. I never got to see them live, but have paid tribute at Phil's statue in Dublin.
This was one of those songs that was the back drop to my life growing up! Just a feel good fun song! Love it. Thanks guys!
Come on Rob squad! This is an everlasting rock and roll anthem. I never get sick of hearing this song and I was a youngster when it came out.

Surely it's not possible to have avoided this song? It's iconic for sure.
Phil Lynott, the singer, was originally a folk artist and primarily played acoustic guitar, but switched to bass when the band went electric.
And yes, there are few things that define the harder edge of 70s rock more than Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham's dual guitar solos crunching into each other- although I think this performance is Scott Gorham and John Sykes (and Brian Downey remains one of the most talented, and understated, drummers in Irish rock, if not ALL rock).
I agree about Brian Downey. Search for and listen to "Thin Lizzy - Song For Jimi" for a song where he simply kills it on drums. He must have snorted up a half-pound of coke right before the recording and went "Raaaahhhh!!! Let me at 'em!!!". All jokes aside - it's a killer song and one of Thin Lizzy's hidden gems (make sure you listen to the outro).
Before you post...
Do your background
Philip a folk artist? Eric Bell the original guitar player had his roots in folk..Not Philip
@@stormbringer76 : they both did. Lynott and Bell actually bumped into each other all the time while they were both busking in train stations in their earlier days.
My granddaughter’s favorite song, we sing this together. Phil keynote the most gorgeous singer I have ever seen. Scott Gorman isn’t bad either. I am so fanning out right now. Whiskey in a jar is a great one, but I like deep tracts, Phil lay ot wrote a song for his daughter and it is so sweet. Sara is what it is called.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Phil Lynott is the gorgeous singer
Sarah is the song I sang for my daughter the day she was born and every birthday since! She's 20 soon so I'll sing it again to her, she loves it!!
Thin Lizzy are an amazing band with some seriously great songs. Thoroughly recommend listening to more of them ✌
This song reminds me of the boys coming back home from college all over the country during Thanksgiving, Christmas and over summer vacation.
Mid 70's song. Another 70's hard rock group you have to check out: Foghat--"Slow Ride" (long version); Fool for the City; "I Just Wanna Make Love to You"; "Drivin' Wheel"; "Stone Blue"
This actually isn't the first time you've seen two lead guitars play a solo in harmony; the Eagles do it in "Hotel California."
For the best example of electric guitars playing in harmony, check out the classic Allman Brothers instrumental "Jessica." Seriously, it is the greatest instrumental in all of rock.
The original outlaws also had twin lead guitars, one a fender the other a Gibson. The contrasting sounds were played to perfection.
I would argue their live version of " In Memory of Elizabeth Reed " of the Fillmore East is the greatest instrumental in rock ever.
@@cesarnarro6013 certainly the best recorded live album of all. Sadly the recording engineer has passed taking his secrets with him.
Was anyone asking?
And Lynard Skynard in "Freebird"!🔥🔥🔥❤✌
You HAVE to see: Lizzy: "Dont believe a word". Bass player singers: Geddy Lee, Burke Shelley, Greg Lake, Andy McCluskey, Paul McCartney, Sting, Jack Bruce, Lemmy. Mark King. ALL brilliant.
Geddy Lee? And I'm not even a fan. You listen to Phil's bass, and that's some sophisticated stuff there; Thirds and fifth's in a melodic line. Underrated band.
@@MrRonk55 Was "Dont believe a word" not by Lizzy then? The Rush bass lines are epic, Geddy played keys and taurus pedals and sang at the same time.
My favourite band ever. Just keep on listening to them. That’s what I would recommend.
I grew up in Dublin in the 70's and Thin Lizzy were our heroes their first hit Whisky In the jar was a rock adaptation of a traditional Irish folk song and they had many hits and albums throughout the 70's, also check out Dancin' in the moonlight.
Regarding the bass, you have never checked out Sting or The Police, both as the lead of The Police and as a solo artist he always was on bass, as was Paul McCartney in the Beatles and Wings.
Thin Lizzy, Van Morrison and Horslips. My favorite Irish Rock bands of that era (then add in The Chieftains and Clannad for "trad" bands).
Hi fellow Dubliner 🤟 🇮🇪
@@taun856 I'm from the midwest, and I have a Horslips album that I got back in 79.
@@mikemaricle9941 I'm from Oklahoma and I also had their albums - now I have all of their CD's. Love 'em! They don't get the credit they deserve.
Don't forget Lemmy Kilmister. 100mph bass and 150 decibel vocals 😊
Should do "Cowboys Song" by Lizzy or "Out in the fields" by Phil and Gary Moore
One of the guitarists, wearing black shirt ,is John Sykes who actually played guitar solo in "Still the night" for Whitesnake. (Adrian Vandenberg and Vivian Campbell were in the song's official PV but they were not actually playing) Phil Lynott and John playing " Please Don't Leave Me" was good one too.
So happy you got the right version of the song. 70s and 80s band one very happy irish girl here, thank you.
Yes !!!!! finally you have got around to the suggestion of Thin Lizzy -one of my all-time favourite bands from the 70's but still holds up today .
May I highly recommend the track - Parisienne Walkways - I think you will both enjoy this track for the guitars alone.
R.I.P Phil Lynott & Gary Moore - both gone too soon.
Elton John paid a tribute to his good friend John Lennon after Lennon's death in a song called "Empty Garden" and this comes from Elton's heart.
The all time best rock and roll song!
"The Boys Are Back In Town" was on Thin Lizzy's commercial breakthrough album _Jalibreak_ in 1976. Besides this immortal classic, there's the great title song, the wonderful instrumental ode to their home country of Ireland called "Emerald" and the absolutely wonderful "Cowboy Song." You should check out each and every single one of these songs because they are all fantastic!! I would also recommend their very first hit "Whiskey In The Jar" from their 1973 debut and both "Chinatown" from the album of the same name and "Killer On The Loose." This band was a Metal band's Metal band. Some really talented musicians came from Thin Lizzy and were all respected in their field. Too bad we lost bassist & lead vocalist Phil Lynott from a heroin overdose at the much-too-young age of 38.
You should listen to Gary Moore who played with Thin Lizzy - amazing Blues guitarist- check out "still got the blues for you"
A few other notable singer bassists (off the top of my head) - Sting, Geddy Lee, Jack Bruce, Roger Waters, Les Claypool.
Mark king,Peter Cetera first I thought of.
This song is what my first ship in the Navy would play as we pulled into our home port in Charleston. They would blast it as we came around the bend and came in site of our pier. The wives and families would be waiting and would start dancing and singing along as we pulled in. Great memories!!
You must watch Thin Lizzy live in Sydney, Australia.....The Cowboy song will melt your face!
Here's a suggestion, related to Thin Lizzy:
Gary Moore, Phil Lynott - Out In The Fields
The sound and lyrics are great.
Totally agree.
Gary Moore - Military Man
