Nice driving there! With only a stage 1 (I have 034 in my '21 S5 vert) you'd easily eat up a lot more cars on the straight! Also add a thicker rear sway to tighten up the turns a little more yet keep it very steetable. Better springs if you really want to lock it down more in turns.
Dude!! I live in birmingham and Im potentially buying a 2009 S5 tomorrow to start tracking there. Its a v8 manual as well so a touch different from your setup you have
Amazing video! What are your track wheel rim and tire specs, make, model etc? I've got a 2010 4.2L 6MT S5 that I want to start doing HPDEs and the odd track days with, and I'm looking for a decent beginner setup (I've only ever done a lot of canyon runs out here in SoCal). RN I'm thinking 18-19"x 9-10" wheels with a set of one of the following: RE-71RSs, A052s, or RT660s; or should I just keep it simple for now tire wise? My only suspension upgrades so far are ECS inserts all around and a 034 rear sway bar. I opted for EBC slotted rotors and yellow stuff pads. I also went with a JHM solid shift rod kit and short-throw shifter. The Bilstein B16 PSS10s are a future coilover upgrade once I get my driving and car understanding better. Thanks in advance for any pointers!
Man you already have more than you need for an HPDE. I just ordered 034 rear end links and sway bar and plan to install those soon. For my wheel and tire setup I didn't buy anything special. My main concern was not burning through my daily's. I went 200 treadwear and 19x9.5 on the wheels. Tires I believe are 265/35. I had minor rubbing due to the offset of the track wheels initially, but after one track session the rubbing went away.
Yeah, I wanted to be sure I had the basics already installed so I could utilize them effectively once I got my ish together driving wise with an instructor @@shautohaus. Your driving was really good btw - how much instructor time have you had if any? Can you also share the make of the rims and tires you have with me? Like you I want a track setup so i don't destroy my daily rims and tires.
I'll take a look today to see if I can find the wheel and tire info in my email. If I had to do it again I would get wheels with a better offset so they were more tucked in. I love the way they look because it gives it a mean stance, but I can't lower the car because it already rubs like it said when new tires get put on. As far as instructor time, this was only my second track day so I didn't have a ton. Generally they pair you and one or two other people with an instructor. The first few sessions are generally lead follow. After that you can go out and the instructor will take turns riding with people. I think they rode with me once that day before the happy hour. Actually I have another video that is my second track day at Barber, and I found that instructor was super detailed in giving me pointers and watching me drive on track. I improved a ton between the first and second days at Barber.
I am running EBC Yellows with stainless steel brake lines, r1 concepts slotted rotors, and Castrol SRF fluid. Great initial bite, but the EBCs do fade after about 10 minutes. If changing the pads were easier I might go with a more aggressive pad for the track and a less aggressive one for the street.
@@shautohaus Brakes are the S5s weak point. I’ve done 50 or so events over the years in a modded TT and a Cayman S. Took my B8.5 to AMP a few years ago and cooked the pads and faded the fluid the first session. I ran race pads in the TT with Porsche calipers. In the Cayman I ran Stoptech 309s and they were adequate. Have a set for the S5 if I ever track it again but I turned 70 this year and have more or less decided I’m done. Your lines and instincts are very good. You’ll enjoy advanced group with open passing. BUT, There’s always someone faster. Stay safe!
this is an awesome video. Great production. Great driving! I loved the track explanation alongside the driving POV.
Thanks so much. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Great driving skills, for such a tight track, while having a longer/heavier vehicle. 👍
Thanks you. I am going again Monday. Can't wait.
Nice brother

For sure. All things on my eventual list. Next up is better rotors, pads, and fluid. Plan to record some content as I am doing the updates.
I have a 19 sportback tuned through 034. Intercooler, better rotors Akenobo pads, bigger rear swaybar and lowered 2 inches. It’s a great car.

@@ryanzarzaur that's awesome man. Barber is my absolute favorite track.
@@shautohaus Do you live around the area?
@@ryanzarzaur no. About two hours away in the Atlanta area.

Curious as to what brake pads you are using for your track days? I am looking to get a S5 sportback and plan to track it.
