DEEP CLEAN your Engine Bay without a hose #EvoIV #4g63t #episode6
Prior to attending my first car show in the Evo IV, I decided to give the engine bay a deep clean. Because of the age of the engine, I was nervous about spraying any large amounts of water, such as from a hose, so I used a combination of water, wipes, brushes, and towels to Super Clean the engine bay.

Cut the end of the suction tube at an angle...
I have been looking for a site i can trust to purchase one of those myself. The steering wheel that is..
Unfortunately this is through Facebook, but it all worked out and they were awesome to work with.
Is there a chance the airbag detonates just from messing around with the cover?
There's a slim chance, but honestly you'd have to give it a jolt of electricity or serious static. I grounded the entire time I did it.
is the diameter the same as the old one? I've heard a lot of the aftermarket Chinese carbon ones are slightly smaller.
@@stevenjaquin8218 no the size is the same from what I can tell. Very substantial and great feel when driving.

The coolant overflow bottle is still available to buy new. Part Number is MR355199.

@@MysteriousMatt89 appreciate it. It's been about 2 years I think since I've had it and it's been great. I don't use it all the time, but as a second jack, it's really useful in certain situations. If I had an air compressor always hooked up, I'd use it even more.
@@shautohaus Thanks for the update!
just swapped out my one, i didnt break the clip but one of the cables became loose from the clip hopefully not a problem, plugged everything back in shifters work fine the horn works fine and the control buttons. i just have a check engine light that didnt clear even after a drive but will get it plugged into the machine and hope that its nothing serious. what do you think anything helps?

Thanks so much. Yep contacted them on Facebook messenger and worked out great. They also have an IG now. No complaints.

Terrible advice using anything but manufacturer recommended oil like some clown is suggesting in the comment section. AE839 direct injection engines suffer from low speed pre ignition due to incorrect oil viscosity (too thick) getting past the piston rings and igniting with the fuel especially if the car isn’t brought up to operating temp. Not to mention you will void the warranty using improper oil. It’s not that complicated, use manufacturer recommended oil, more frequent oil changes won’t hurt, and don’t thrash on these until you are at operating temp which goes for pretty much every high performance car out there.
@@ayrtonm7907 thanks for the feedback. I've done 4 oil changes on this car and I only used the manufacturer recommended viscosity.

I'm from right there in the video. Was literally standing outside my grandparents house when I took it. I remember and know the taximen very well.
when you say "I should have done here is remove the airbag completly and repack it" at 14:34, what do you mean by remove completely...?? you did remove the pink airbag and pusehd back on to new cover? so idk what you referring to... as I was watching your video, i do not want to put it back together and ended up open back up later. please be little more detail so I can get it done in ONE SHOT .
@@wonjun8042 what I mean is to remove the airbag from the cover and then try to align it and put it back together. Instead of doing that I tried to adjust it while it was still in the airbag cover and that was very difficult to do.

Are you aware that the Evo IV/V/VI all share a chassis code with the Mirage sedan sold from 1997-2001 in NA? Same moldings for door and roof. You're getting ripped off buying those kinds of parts from abroad.
Yes and I also source parts from Rock Auto and local Mitsubishi dealers. If you watch my first video I mention my first ever car was a 1998 Mirage.

Yep. Was surprised myself, but came in great condition. Just took a while.
@@shautohaus all the little things create perfection
If you're interested in using some of the products I used in this video, I have links to many of them in the description.
Awesome! By the way, the Evo enginebay is generally not afraid of water, especially with a stock air filter box, and indeed if it is stock as a whole. The main thing is to avoid pressure washing and getting water under the coils and spark plug wires.
Good to know. I figured it could take water, but with the age of the engine I just felt more comfortable doing it hoseless. Particularly since so many of the electric clips and brittle and I was nervous of water getting in the connections.
Awesome video, but now I dont want to do it since Ive seen how difficult it is hahaha
Thanks man. You got it. A bunch of people have done it based on this video. It's doable. Just go slow and take your time.
Hey. I finally found the energy to do it today. I believe you could have aligned the little flat pins on the airbag with the notches on the black flanges. I also used zipties to hold the flanges together to slide the top bit with the electronics on the airbag. Then when all the flanges were in I cut the zipties. Anyway these are just tips for the next guys who do this! Thanks a huge lot for the video man! Really helpful!!!❤️
@@doctorschultz7139 thanks for sharing man. Great tips. Glad you took the plunge and hope it turned out well.
Curious as to what brake pads you are using for your track days? I am looking to get a S5 sportback and plan to track it.
I am running EBC Yellows with stainless steel brake lines, r1 concepts slotted rotors, and Castrol SRF fluid. Great initial bite, but the EBCs do fade after about 10 minutes. If changing the pads were easier I might go with a more aggressive pad for the track and a less aggressive one for the street.
@@shautohaus Brakes are the S5s weak point. I’ve done 50 or so events over the years in a modded TT and a Cayman S. Took my B8.5 to AMP a few years ago and cooked the pads and faded the fluid the first session. I ran race pads in the TT with Porsche calipers. In the Cayman I ran Stoptech 309s and they were adequate. Have a set for the S5 if I ever track it again but I turned 70 this year and have more or less decided I’m done. Your lines and instincts are very good. You’ll enjoy advanced group with open passing. BUT, There’s always someone faster. Stay safe!

@@UzumakiGarage you know I think I did, but now I can't seem to find it 😞. Been so busy this spring.
Hey I found it thanks. Super helpful.
I would also take off the side skirts to remove the foam block on the inside of them as it holds all the water which rots the corners of the car in front of the rear wheels! Just had mine taken off and has revealed very bad rust! Just a preventative measure if it’s not been removed already!
Great tip.
Thank you for not going to 18's. The CN9A/CP9A chassis looks so much better in 17" wheels. Just my opinion though.
Agreed. Honestly I couldn't even fit 18s even if I wanted to. 17s are perfect for this generation of cars.
I wouldn't say black is super rare. I've seen a handful in Canada but yes most were white or silver.
Based on what I've found of the production numbers of the GSR only ~10% were black. Agreed though that Blue and Red were the most rare colors it came in.
Also appreciate you watching and commenting. Always awesome to get engagement from folks.

Is there somewhere you can buy the nicer airbag cover with an airbag and everything already installed?
I'm not sure if you can get it already put together. Never seen that honestly. Don't think any company would take on the liability, but could be wrong.
great video! I can't separate the inflation system from the cover (as shown at 11:05), it's really hard, doesn't move one bit and I've tried with plastic tools, screw drivers and hands, nothing works. any tips?
Thanks. I'm not sure why it won't separate. Honestly, that part surprised me with how simple it came apart. Do you have a small plastic tool that's a little curved at the end like I have in the video?
Yes i got lots of them that I used, but it really doesn't even move slightly. my airbag cover is pretty dented everywhere already. Funny thing is everything else was quite easy, like the airbag came off very easily from the steering wheel

Looks like you figured out the trim parts but I used mirage part numbers and didn't have issues. Mitsubishi had the drip moulding in GA and it was 170 for both and they shipped it to a local dealer. Mitsubishi still tends to have mirage stuff. I always check them before going to eBay just in case
So I actually contacted the local Mitsubishi dealer here in the Atlanta area and never heard back from them. Left a voicemail and email with their parts folks. Will have to try again if I need large parts like this.

Don't worry, my wallet is just one giant hole with this car at the moment 🤣🤣🤣😭
nice to see that, please keep update
Nice work! You can always run a little electrical tape around those thin sockets to protect the wheel finish.
Good advice. Been using it so far and it has good clearance so no issues to date, but electrical tape is a great suggestion.
I think that width and offset are too much for the Evo 4's OEM set up. The only way to keep those rims and tyres, while trying to avoid rubbing, would be with the suspension settings being super firm, which of course will mean the ride quality may not be enjoyable at all.
What do you recommend for the 4? It may come down to new wheels and tires in the end. We shall see soon.
I'm really hoping that you won't need to try another set, but I guess you'll see how it goes, step by step.
