    What you didnt notice, is that when airbag explodes, it make airbag plastic hover break into two pieces, and thats the way how airbag jumps out. On the inside of the cover there is groove in the middle where cover is very thin and in exactly this place it will break during an accident. Now, when your airbag cover is sewed around with strong thread covered with leather, which is not brittle at all compared to thin plastic, now its unknown how airbag will behave, if it will be powerful enough to break this leather in the middle (maybe not and it will inflate into window side instead of your face?), and in case if it will rip, what injuries flying piece of leather can do to your face (maybe hit your eyes or something?). I found this video when searching if one scratched cover can be replaced with mint condition, but covering it with leather is something which I would not do on my own. If I would very need to do it, I would do small holes in leather above this security groove in cover, to ensure that during an accident this leather will rip apart in correct place without any problem.

      The leather one actually has a slit on one side to make sure it breaks apart during airbag detonation. You can see it at around minute 00:41

      @@shautohaus for me it just look like a place where leather strip is sewed to be continous because you cant just cut this shape without having any joint. And this is strong joint - i had those on my dainese leather motorcycle suit and they survived intense accident with no wear or tear. Original groove in plastic is horizontal in the middle and goes near audi sign. does producer of this cover provide video how it behaves during detonation? Its not big cost for him.

      @@shautohaus I need some way of protecting airbag cover from scratches because I have brand new car and my wheelchair scratches this part intesively and I dont want to have unnecessary resell value drop.. but this leather cover doesnt convince me its safe.

    great video! I can't separate the inflation system from the cover (as shown at 11:05), it's really hard, doesn't move one bit and I've tried with plastic tools, screw drivers and hands, nothing works. any tips?

    • @shautohaus
      @shautohaus  8 місяців тому

      Thanks. I'm not sure why it won't separate. Honestly, that part surprised me with how simple it came apart. Do you have a small plastic tool that's a little curved at the end like I have in the video?

    • @shadowofflame_
      @shadowofflame_ 8 місяців тому

      Yes i got lots of them that I used, but it really doesn't even move slightly. my airbag cover is pretty dented everywhere already. Funny thing is everything else was quite easy, like the airbag came off very easily from the steering wheel

    Did you get the horn “sensitivity” fixed? Mine is doing something similar

    • @shautohaus
      @shautohaus  10 місяців тому

      I have not, but I heard from the manufacturer that someone else had found a solution using some washers. I personally just press hard at the top of my air bag and that works. It still works, but just isn't as sensitive as before.

    • @prabhdipkang6535
      @prabhdipkang6535 10 місяців тому +1

      @@shautohaus I was actually able to find the fix, last night I did the wheel and the airbag cover and the airbag wasn't aligning properly, the left side was more pressed in than the right side. And the horn had to be pressed hard to honk.
      I took the airbag cover and wheel off, inside of the wheel there's 3 black pieces that the spring goes into, these wire misaligned. I swapped over the pieces from the OEM wheel and now the airbag sits perfectly, and the horn is back to working like before, regular sensitivity.
      The 3 black pieces can be removed, by taking the torx screw out and then pulling the piece itself out.

    Is there a chance the airbag detonates just from messing around with the cover?

  • @wonjun8042
    @wonjun8042 5 місяців тому

    when you say "I should have done here is remove the airbag completly and repack it" at 14:34, what do you mean by remove completely...?? you did remove the pink airbag and pusehd back on to new cover? so idk what you referring to... as I was watching your video, i do not want to put it back together and ended up open back up later. please be little more detail so I can get it done in ONE SHOT .

    • @shautohaus
      @shautohaus  5 місяців тому

      @@wonjun8042 what I mean is to remove the airbag from the cover and then try to align it and put it back together. Instead of doing that I tried to adjust it while it was still in the airbag cover and that was very difficult to do.

      Hey. I finally found the energy to do it today. I believe you could have aligned the little flat pins on the airbag with the notches on the black flanges. I also used zipties to hold the flanges together to slide the top bit with the electronics on the airbag. Then when all the flanges were in I cut the zipties.
      Anyway these are just tips for the next guys who do this!

    Once I've got a really great advice - if you're messing with front air-bad, DO ALWAYS lower the front seat back to the minimum. This way you will land knocked-out on the back seat, instead of knocked-dead in the front :D Do you agree?
