Only A Few Riders Have Made It Through This Unscathed

- Today we're revisiting one of the hardest mountain bike trails I've ever ridden, Magneto to Velociraptor at Sentiers Du Moulin. What makes this hard is not the big drops, and not the speed, but quite the opposite. This mountain bike trail is a combination of slow speed technical downhills mixed with some challenging trials maneuvers and slippery terrain. Of all the place I've been mountain biking, this remains one of my favorite trails

@12:44 , "Any good riders?" The delivery of that line was perfect, haha!
Under the radar dig alert...when Phil describes the invasive tree stump that has caught him and Remy in the past, one of the riders asks, "did it catch any good riders?"
Had to leave that in, it had me dying.
That part was hilarious!
I heard to too, hahaha...
Think it got lew Buchanan too lol
I caught that too. So funny
Nothing but bangers from Phil lately!
The quality of the video was really nice. Super clear!
Oh Yeah ! Then I’m a boss says Phil!
J'ai justement pensé à ta vidéo quand il a dit ça 😂
Absolutely, there are a lot of opportunities to mess up! One day I'll have to doing it in one go
Oaft that's a bit... erm... I'm having visions of the inside of an ambulance just watching this lol 😂
Awesome riding guys!
Phil is the finest XC biker in UA-cam!! Great guy, always informative, fun, and riding constantly in Canada and US!!
I don't think many have described me as an XC rider before 😁
@@SkillsWithPhilyou’re actually a gravel rider !
Oh boy! Haha i mean i did do the GT grade video in 2019!
You can definitely tell so many of these trails were designed for high BB, short wheelbase 26er bikes from the late 90s. looks super fun! I love tech trails
These trails are fairly recent, most of the trails on the mealstrom on SDM are less than 4 years old.
@@SkillsWithPhil oh wow! Theyre super oldskool!
@@draggonhedd We love the old school :-)
Which is why we keep coming back!
Great observation
I ALWAYS WALK UP THE BORING STUFF TO SAVE ENERGY FOR THE FUN STUFF! NEVER STOP...
I'm a fan of walking up hills too when to conserve energy:)
Looks so sick!!
I was there that same week! Also rode Magneto, but after it dried up a little more. I've got a video up on my channel capturing our experience. Love that trail.
I'll have to check it out, it's fun seeing other people experience this trail.
First time I'm seeing this alternate line in Magneto, still to this day you show me lines in my own trail network aha
I have a well tuned alternative-line detector!😁
Hahaha you guys
easily one of my favorite videos. so fun to watch lol
Thank you!
Love watching your videos Phil keep it up and any tips for jumps and big drops
And pump tracks
"any good riders?" lol
His delivery was perfect 👌
Nice tech stuff not easy when greasy nice work
That trail is sketchier than a Diddy party!
Yeah man magneto, thats a crazy trail
Cool. I think we have some technically harder ones here but looks really fun.
So, when is the trail starting? I've only seen you guys crossing some unridable mountain goat path.
😁 to be fair there was one trail towards the beginning that was literally named goat (Chèvre)
Saw the title and knew it was SDM before even clicking. The quebecoise are mental.
8:45 "Today on skills with Phil, we talk about di-" 😂
5:55 that turns into pure insanity bro
It's one of the coolest trails IMO.
I really need to get up to ride in the Quebec City area next season I'm starting to notice you get up there quite a bit now eh?
Our closest apple store is in Montreal if that puts things into perspective.
@@SkillsWithPhil Wow, I'd have thought there was one in Burlington/Williston/Essex/Colchester area but then I'm an Android guy...
Nice Ride Phil !! Those rocks look really slipper. How do you have your fork setup up? How far outside of the recommended weight / pressure ratio are you from the recommended settings? And what is your rebound speed set to ? I'm messing with my fork and want to try some different approaches. TIA
This looks terrifying lol
Insanely technical ride. Beautiful setting. Why not put Quebec in the notes?
0:57 Locations are always displayed towards the beginning of the video.
Some of these tracks look fun as. Some look absolutely horrible!
They are all fun :)
What kind of tires would you recommend for this type of trail expecially this wet.
Assegai
I have a bike check linked in the description where i talk about my tire choice.
Not sure what is more sketchy....wet stones or wet wood. Yikes! After falling on my back 2 weeks ago....I've been a little more concerned about not falling again. A week off work sucks!
what tires are you on for this ?
i usually dab pre-ride or post ride but maybe ill try a sick midline dab
im glad there was a trail in there somewhere, because i didnt see shit.
How are some of these trails not lined with corpses?
12:40- “Emotional damage”
Where’s this place ?
magnifique
Bruh UA-cam notified me 9 hours late
Well atleast it notified you i keep getting comments from people saying they haven't seen a video from me in a while 🤷♂️
Dude hell no, great video though
This is the kind of trail i live for :)

21:50 rip stanchion
Stachions are higher up. The lowers got scratched but that's just cosmetic.
Scratch on left stanchion 😅
that sam pilgrim like guy is nevrr out of breath
you do trails i nly dream of hitting
Don't see how you didn't pop your tires it was real bumpy
i m going next week end
Is it ok to put a coil shock on my carbon Scott Ransom
Why are you asking me and not google or Scotts customer support?
@@SkillsWithPhil I don’t know I thought you’d maybe know
I’m new to mountain biking what is dabbing?
Dabbing is when you lose balance and put a foot down, or a hand against a tree to regain balance.
There's a discipline of riding called Trials (not trails) in which there's rules that even touching a pedal or resting your handlebar is considered a half dab.
@ ohhhhh ok thank you i appreciate that, yeah definitely have dabbed a few times🫡
Can't I trail this ride without dabbing?
Sure not?
Thank You, It's now fixed... *facepalm*
Can you look at this trail without being scared?
I find that this trail isn't scary per se, but as a competitive person i really don't want to dab a foot and there are so many opportunities to mess up.
@@SkillsWithPhil thank you. I was mostly asking myself. keep up the good stuff. BTW, any trail building coming up?
remy metailer would go at 50 kmh down this trail 😂
Anyone else keep trying to wipe away that water drop? 😅.
I was so annoyed when I reviewed the footage. I try checking the lens periodically but sometimes it's easy to forget
It still was a great video.
i always rip a fat dab b4 mtbiking
dabs are garbage !! you need 6 star bubble full melt broskis
@@gmaster716 10gs of mushrooms got me riding better lol
Nope
Dude, grow your hair back you looked so cool!👍
Nah I'm good, long hair is annoying
Can we at least have the moustache back, then? 😇
Nah, I'm going to do what i want.
Anyone here been to whisler so fun also please sub😎😎😎😎
first
First while riding.
Sorry but whats a dab
It's not uncommon to get tripped up by a technical feature or caught off guard by a slippery turn and lose balance. To regain balance you might quickly place your foot on the ground or hand on a tree. This would be referred to as a dab. The term comes from the Bike Trials (not trails) which is a competitive form of rider where riders slowly navigate really technical terrain with the goal of keep their feet on the pedals the whole time.
