I have to agree with your wife 110% about the Gronk trail. It is not a blue jump trail anymore. It is very difficult for intermediate bikers like me to learn how to jump with lips that steep. Regardless, it's still fun!
Phill, you are an INCREDIBLE rider and inspiration dude. You can toggle on a dime between tech and flow like no one I've seen. Thx for these vids bro.🤘😎🤘
im 65 and enjoy your riding.....one time and only once there was a motocross race there 40 years ago......they had to shut it down because the bikes were uncovering a powerline in the ground......i remember that like it was yesterday.......as you will remember these days 40 years from now and it will feel like yesterday
Making it look easy out there Last season i had a pretty bad wreck on #11 on fort hill the first moto jump. It was near the end of the season in November and with the cold in the morning and warming up later in the day the trail got pretty slow i had a couple warning sign’s off the sleigh and shark fin but went for the moto anyways. Cased it bad and got thrown off the bike down the landing breaking my wrist and collarbone. Needed surgery on both and was down for just around 3 months. I did get over it this season it took a bunch of attempts pulling off after the shark fin but finally sent it. Hopefully i can send 13 at some point it looks like a sweet jump. Love the vids man keep em coming 🤘
Yikes that's brutal. I have a tremendous amount of respect for big jumps. The consequences for miscalculations are pretty severe. I wish you all the best!
@@SkillsWithPhil oh ya man for sure and its a jump i have hit fine for two seasons. Now i don’t take any chances if the run does not go down smoothly on any feature i pull off and try again. I am doing much better now thanks man.
You always ride the most technical. trails, love it! Where I live there are only flow trails. It's become so annoying, I find myself only riding hiking trails.
11:54 You can get a more accurate reading if you pump the pump hose up to ballpark pressure, then engage the valve, so the air in the fork doesn't have to leave to get to the pump and lower the reading
Awesome day of riding! Im not 100% positive, but I swear I was hearing a couple of loose spokes thru Trillium. I'd inspect which I'm sure you probably already do. Monster on the trails as always 💪🏼
My AC kicked on in my house and I felt like I was there haha I used to live in Indiana and I remember riding on crisp fall days like those, leaves on the ground, light flashing through the trees. Now I live in AZ and it's still 90+ out 🤣
No, not really. I don't count dirt jumpers as HTs. I just don't find hardtails to be super enjoyable, but there's nothing better than a well built hardtail.
They're roughly the same size from Hawleywood to Black Magic. The jumps on King pin are a bit smaller though harder to gauge because the lip obstructs the view of the landing more so than the other two trails.
I haven’t been down since the new high speed quad… but it looks like you rode the slow quad? Do they run both all the time? The only thing I dislike there is the slow lift, I feel like I’m at Bolton!
Yeah they've been running both lifts each time I've been there this year. I don't mind the slower speed lift, as I enjoy being able to zone out, gather my thoughts and talk with Hailey on the ride up. The other lift is gets you to the top almost too fast. I will say Boltons lift was painfully slow the last time i was there. They kept stopping it for every foot traffic chair and it literally took over 35 minutes to ride up. That really killed the fun.
I followed you for year on pink bike and yt. Just a question how many frames have you broken Races ? And just for fun ? And you have any film or pictures of them. Maybe do a video of it.
Between BMX and MTB I've broken quite a few frames, but not nearly as much now as I used to. I'm a much smoother and calculated rider than younger Phil. I don't race anymore, and when I did GoPros has absolute shitty quality and I didn't save my footage back then. I always found racing with a camera on was super distracting so I didn't. These days I don't race because I usually find the whole experience to be rather stressful and not particularly enjoyable and they're usually 3 day events which takes up a lot of time.
Ixs carves, there's a few brands using the same design, but they are simple and affordable and last longer than a bunch of more expensive gloves ive used.
I love hawleywood so fun epic want to hit fort hill so bad just so much mental wish was just lil closer too me my local mt creek 2hours 40 mins but thunder 6 hours
Funny enough, Paras actually wasn't my orthodontist, he did go through residency with my orthodontist though. They both ride together all the time and thats how i met Paras
I don't disagree with you. I grew up dirt jumping on a BMX and enjoy steep jumps, but steep jumps also require steep landings to feel right. Steep jumps with flatter landings feel really abrupt and unpleasant, and that's kind of how that trail feels now. I think there's room to play around with the shapes of the jumps, but I don't think their current form is the best, but that's my personal opinion. I'ver ridden a lot of jump trails, and there's a reason why A-line and Dirt Merchant are the best.
That beginning was really wholesome. She was very nice to ask and you definitely made that kids day. 😊
It's funny I saw the mom around a few more times that day but i don't think i ever ran into her kids!
You did it was one of the kids you talked to in your video
I stand corrected! That makes me feel better :)
Nice vid
ayeeee that's me at 37:55 - Skidmarks was an insane trail to see in person. Thanks for being super chill and approachable!
So stoked I got to meet you! Thanks for the picture! 27:10
I've been watching MTB channels since 2016, and hands down I feel like you are the most relatable of all. Thank you sir.
You made that guy's day by asking him for a tow. Great stuff.
For real. Imagine telling your buddy’s
Ya so i towed skills with Phil in on forthill today
Ya ok 😂😂😂

Not only do you completely SHED. It's really awesome to see how gracious you are to everybody! Love the channel.
Phill, you are an INCREDIBLE rider and inspiration dude. You can toggle on a dime between tech and flow like no one I've seen. Thx for these vids bro.🤘😎🤘
Wow, thanks for the kind words man.

I realized while watching this that Phil is the only one I'd watch push a bike up a hill and not exit out of the video.
Making it look easy out there

Phil, you are so humble and down to earth. Don't change!!
You always ride the most technical. trails, love it!
Where I live there are only flow trails. It's become so annoying, I find myself only riding hiking trails.
Hiking trails always look more fun to ride, they're always kind of awkward which makes them a good challenge

Hmmm never thought of doing that, but thats a solid point!
I'm with Hailey - get rid of the insane lips on Gronk. #makegronkgreatagain
Thunder is a great park IMO. A bit of something for everyone. I feel like every visit I find a new hidden tech trail I didn't know about.
I see the last 20% of my fork travel as bottoming out protection 😂
On an enduro bike or DH bike i usually leave 10mm for those oh shit moments.
Pink shirt enjoying life ! Best
I've always had a feeling you were a good dude, but now I know for sure after that opening
I was there on Sunday. One of the best days riding I've ever had it was beautiful out
Hoooly crap those are some big jumps.
Yeah the feeling of coming up to them is really something else, i find it hard to stay relaxed.
Crazy jump line!
I know right?!
Phil gotta get at yellow lens for ur goggles takes away that glare u get goimg in out of sun awesome video thunder got best dirt ever

It was actually almost 80 that day.
Phil do you ever ride hardtail mtb bikes?? Would be interested to know your opinion on them aha.
Sick vid 👌
No, not really. I don't count dirt jumpers as HTs. I just don't find hardtails to be super enjoyable, but there's nothing better than a well built hardtail.
Soo awesome trails
the cat part hits hard ngl
Hey Phil, wondering how the jumps on Hawleywood compare with say, Black Magic at Killington, or some of the larger jumps on lower Kingpin at loon?
They're roughly the same size from Hawleywood to Black Magic. The jumps on King pin are a bit smaller though harder to gauge because the lip obstructs the view of the landing more so than the other two trails.
@@SkillsWithPhil Thanks! Looking forward to checking that out next season.
U should come to Tn and got to wind rock baker creek and Walden’s ridge they are all great riding
Hey Phil can you do a video on the best mountain bike locations to ride in the winter months?
I usually hibernate in the winter hehe, but that's not a terrible idea.
I haven’t been down since the new high speed quad… but it looks like you rode the slow quad? Do they run both all the time? The only thing I dislike there is the slow lift, I feel like I’m at Bolton!

Went to the park for the first time last week. Those jumps are insane. I didn’t try them. 😂
I followed you for year on pink bike and yt. Just a question how many frames have you broken Races ? And just for fun ? And you have any film or pictures of them. Maybe do a video of it.

I wish I get as good as you someday
Shout out to whoever is working the top of the lift with the Fallout 4 soundtrack playing. Solid choice.
Aha so that's what was going on! I
Maybe i just missed a video where you explain this, but have you broken your red/yellow Force? Was wondering why you were riding the "old" one !
If you go back 2 videos, I explained the fork has an issue.
@SkillsWithPhil There you go, I only went back 1 vid, that's on me 😂 can't keep up with the posts, which is great ! Keep it up man !
WHEN were you there?! I've been there almost every weekend since July 🤣 hopefully I'll see ya next time
This past weekend!
Just curious what gloves you use? I'm going to be new and want to make sure I have a good reliable pair
Ixs carves, there's a few brands using the same design, but they are simple and affordable and last longer than a bunch of more expensive gloves ive used.
Nice video!
What type of bike do you have?
its in the description
I seen you there, didn’t want to bother you, but you should stop by HoliMont bike park. Cheers
Good advice for anyone, from Phil. A lippy jump, can't be raced. Scrub or jump. I can't scrub, so jumping it is. Which is better than being bucked 😬.
Dang thats sic
I love hawleywood so fun epic want to hit fort hill so bad just so much mental wish was just lil closer too me my local mt creek 2hours 40 mins but thunder 6 hours
Why don’t they run the high speed quad for the bike park?
They do, and that's what most people use but they also run the fixed grip lift too.
@ ok good to know! Thats sick!
As a guy raced motocross arm pump can be few things diet no sugar and hydration help alot
As a former professional downhill MTB racer, this was 100% bad bike setup.
@SkillsWithPhil agree
big!
PHIL WE HAD THE SAME ORTHODONTIST. I saw him in an old video
Funny enough, Paras actually wasn't my orthodontist, he did go through residency with my orthodontist though. They both ride together all the time and thats how i met Paras
even at our local tiny park, they took jumps up a notch or two...
patrol saw you ducking ropes at the end of the day
I'd say they have made the jumps on Hawleywood so lippy that it undermines how the trail rides at trail speed. Not sure why they felt the need.

Yooo was that Ellen Noble??
Yup, that was her!
fresca trails
Hey hun, do you want to go to the bike park with me? Ya, sure. Ok, see you at the bottom..😅😂
