    My 2011 SL550 began to exhibit the intermittent gear shifter lock problem. Lots of info and advice online about it. Some of it clearly unacceptable (like banging the shifter with a hammer to release it from Park). As far as I know, this is the only clear, comprehensive explanation about how things work. Although the example shifter is not identical to mine, most of the material applies, and I am confident I will be able to handle the issue. Thank you. And compliments on a job well done.

      Ha ! I think I saw the one with the hammer...... reminds of another video where some guy instructed folks to remove the front sub chassis to get the alternator out of the V12's... Thanks for your kind words !

    Very useful info and video. Mostly learning the Black box is Vin reg to the car, so for me its replacing that little broken plastic lever, I guess, not the whole unit.
    I've gt a CL 500 2001. Stuck in P. So it's a strip down job and new part. Five star vid, thanks

    My 01 s430 comes out of park without the key in the ignition and without pushing the brake pedal. I don't recognize that the car has a tcm in it when I use my launch creader 2.0 benz specific version. All the 15,15r and 15x turn on but 50 doesn't turn on when I zry to start it. I am thinking the ecu doesn't have a signal that indicates the car is in park or neutral. Any ideas what i can try, ive tried everything I can think of. I see that the thick black cable that goes from the shifter to the ignition and my scanner reads the eis and it says it's good no faults but it doesn't connect to most of the other modules. I know that those 5 speed tranny's have issues with the round plug that goes into the transmission could that be the the reason why the shifter is always uocked.

    Awesome video! Is there suppose to be a bushing where the shift lever attaches to the shift arm?

    Hi at 11.42 of your video does that have anything to do with starting the car? I have no crank and it's stuck in gear but that connector is out of the gear assembly. Let me know please

    • @clarkrupp
      @clarkrupp  6 місяців тому

      @@Amg641 it’s been a while since I messed with all of that. If the ECU is getting any sensor feedback that the car is in gear…, it definitely won’t crank. Unplugging the connector will cancel out the valid feedback it’s looking for

      @@clarkrupp Hmm thanks for that i will try clipping this back in and hope it cranks

      Rewatch the video.... See if you can manually move the linkage with the shifter removed

    Amazing and very educational video. I have a 2001 S 55 stuck in park. Been looking at allot of the other videos and was about to just buy another shifter and swap it out but it sounds like it’s specific to the car and won’t work. I’m pretty handy but definitely can’t do this repair. I think I can get my shifter out. Would you be willing to repair it for me? Obviously it would be a job that I’ll pay for. Please and thank you 🙏

    Any chance did you check the brake lights because I got the same problem but my brake lights are stuck on to

    • @clarkrupp
      @clarkrupp  Рік тому +1

      Did not ! Normally, there is a switch in contact with the brake pedal that triggers the brake lights. Never looked on one of these cars.
