I normally don't comment on videos but this one is basically click bait. 7 minutes of complete nonsense describing unrelated items under the hood before he even mentions the topic of the video. Once you finally see a shifter it's already out of the car. No video of removal. Not very helpful as things were already apart. What's important is steps showing how to take it apart, not talking about how you had problems and broke stuff doing your work. Should come out without breaking anything. 🤣
I wished you just showed us how you removed the panel to get the that broken part. You spent so much time on the other stuff that are irrelevant to this problem. It would be nice if you can at least make another video showing which parts needs to be removed to get to that area or just write it here.
Super! Now let me share a tip that would have made your job sooooo much easier... There is a video (google it) that shows how to get the shifter (and trans) out of P. First you remove the leather shift knob. Then while you pull the rod towards Neutral, and hit the top of the rod with a fairly heavy hammer (striking towards Neutral) and it will pop out of P. My car was stuck in P, I called ADAC (in Germany), he came and looked up the solution in the Mercedes Star Diagnoses CD and it explained about the hammer. He only had a rather small plastic hammer, and it didn't work. He was about to load my SL 500 on to the tow truck, whenI remembered that I had a heavy hammer in the trunk. I hit the shift rod with a good blow, and it popped right out of P. The next day I removed the shifter unit and sent it off to get it repaired. Please look up the video on how to get it out of P with the hammer procedure.
This video is a txt book way to piss of a professional mechanic 👏 the only elements you missed on is a description of the screw drivers you were using and talking about the weather or the crows sitting on the power line outside😂

If it's stuck in park. You can use a small deadblow and tap on the top of the shifter and giggles it out of park

2001 sl 500 cannot turn the key to start the engine key was left in the ignition for three days
If your ABC starts to fail dont waste money on it, convert to coilover shocks.
