Great video, quick note, I did this job in my 2005 SL55. In my case the new aluminum lever did not match there plastic one and didn't work correctly. I had to take and file it down to match. So if you do this job try to compare the profile of the new lever to the plastic one.
@@masood-tv in my case it was the poor quality of the aluminum part. It was around 1 or 2 mm larger than it should be so the lock mechanism didn't work correctly.
@larrydeem3071 thank you, Larry, for the reply. The reason I asked was to be able to answer questions from others in the future. I had ordered both parts from Amazon. The one which didn't fit was slightly different in a couple of dimensions and it too appeared it could be modified to fit an S500. Thx again.
I’m sorry, there wasn’t one on your unit but I have one on my unit. I finally got the shifter out but the plastic lever wasn’t cracked nor broken. Maybe the lever is not the problem. I’m not stuck in park but sometimes stuck in drive.
Where do you live? My girlfriend's father passed away and we now have his 2004 SL500. Went to back it out if garage the other say and it wont ahuft out of Park. Watched your video and seems a bit beyond qhat an art major can successfully achieve!
Let me ask you. The mechanic told me I have to be careful on how I take out the gear shifter selector because if I do it in the wrong way, I have to reprogram the car's computer. Is it true ? I can see you change the gear shift selector without any problems. Thanks for helping me.
My symptoms are different, it doesn't lock in P, but sometimes the gearbox goes into a strange mode while driving. As if it got stuck in one gear and stops switching. When stopping the car, I cannot switch from N to R or P. Only when I turn it off can I switch to P and when I start it again, everything returns to normal for some time. Can anyone suggest what could be the reason?
Thanks for the video. Very detailed which helped a bunch.
You're welcome, Jeff.

Thanks, Larry. I gave 2 part numbers and suggested to purchase both and return the one that doesn't fit as an option.

@larrydeem3071 - got it. Thx. Did you source yours from eBay or Amazon?
@@masood-tv eBay it was probably the cheapest one.

How did you move the pin that you can push in, right above that one screw at the front?
Could you give me the time in the video where the pin appears?

@@gangalee83 I have same problem, stuck but my lever is fine. How did you end up fixing yours?
Check the brake light/gear shift switch behind the brake pedal
@@alstine5233 I replaced the Transmission Conductor Plate, after I started getting a P0705 code (Transmission Range Sensor). This fixed my problem.

Hey Sean, sorry, I don't have time for commissions like that.
@masood-tv Oh, ok. I only asked because you offered to do it for someone else in a response 2 months ago. No worries and thanks for video

@eddieramirezm.1241 not true, just follow the procedure in the video and you will be good.
How much do you charge for this service?
Where do you live? I can help you do it free of charge.
