I think it wouldn’t be too harmful to have an official FFA that you can queue into. Sometimes you’re too burned out to play 1v1 or 3v3 and joining a big FFA where your chances of losing are so high anyway is chill.
I agree with your point that RTS has to become more new player friendly and more casuel focused for the people to enjoy the game with others. It is harming to promote winning as the main selling point of the game. A game is good if you don't feel bad after losing and the players have the tools to see on what they can improve or having option what else to do if not interested in going into ranked and climbing.
They have some quite radical ideas about APM and automating "repetitive tasks" such as adding units to control groups. Planning to post a new video too on the future of APM in RTS games (mainly Stormgate and ZeroSpace). Would be nice to get a bit more "strategy" and the "realtime" not being all encompassing
Dota and CS have struck gold with outsourcing the work of making custom models for heroes & weapons. Having something similar to Valves esports funding towards the events via purchased skins and battlepasses is probably a good way to go if they plan on doing tournaments of that scale. Considering the size of the studio any third party created content they can then charge money for must be beneficial. As long as they don't charge money for access, but purely for cosmetics, announcers and what ever else they can think of that doesn't force you to spend money to have access to the game mode your friends are playing at any time. Being able to enable & disable custom skins for enemy players would also be a great feature but is pretty much never available in games since it probably makes people less likely to buy skins in the first place.
That's a good point about community skins. EverQuest: Landmark was taking it a step further but, alas :( LoL has done well in terms of creating compelling skins people want without ruining the integrity of competitive play (with the exception of ~6 banned skins out of 1000s). Announcer packs were my favorite in SC2 and I hope more creative customization options like that can make their way into Stormgate
What do you think are the important decisions for Stormgate? I think a lot of us are hoping for the new SC:BW, but I'm not sure that is the best aim for the success of the game. Gamers have changed...
If they went HAM on a campaign it would be tons of work. If they focus on making a good engine. compelling gameplay and then get community map makers etc. involved and work with the community to grow the game - it can succeed (imo)
@@Ianbus123 sadly they cant even make an animated tower in center of promoting video... Its really big scope nowdays to have a good game... I work in gameindustry, its so hard to manage small team to do things right. They can make a good small rts... But good in so many ways? Its 2023, you either make it good on start or nobody cares one month later, people get back to old games and build content there. And if you are a big company it will costs you millions to maintain and improve, sorry, i doubt it will be good on a big scale.
I guess since I play a lot of older games still, I'm less concerned about the visuals at this stage, but I think a stylized look such as WoW/Fortnite/LoL takes some pressure off too? @@tomaszachar809 By the time we get out of a NDA-restricted Alpha I hope to see massive improvement in terms of animations and unit models. Did you get an Alpha invite? I didn't (not that I could make videos about it if I did!)
@@Ianbus123 you are a player, but they are developers and they care about everything and yet they have a bugged tower there :) was a small joke... As said, they will make a good game for sure! But not a great game. And i havent asked for beta key. I will see if it is worth when it will be out. I preffer singleplayer and campaign. True. 1v1 can feel a bit too pressurised at times. It is a game after all!
True words! Im all into AOE4 but man this game stuck in 2013 in aspects like social hub, monetization, replays and so on...
True. No harm in learning from other genres (like succesful MOBAs) while retaining the RTS identity imo
