been keeping up on your B58 informational videos ever since i got my 440i. thank you for posting more info about the b58 as i want to keep this car as long as my '95 honda accord
I have notice my car get slower & I had it diagnosed & it said it was the crankshaft sensor. Replaced that & still having issues. I might just need to add coolant into the smaller tank like you said..
I didn’t have any smoke or coolant smell from my exhaust, but then I had an injector fail causing a misfire, or atleast I thought that was why, but I had to take it in to a specialist and they said the charge cooler leaked internally and caused the misfire in cyl2. Now they’re saying it’s 90-95% not fixable and are saying $1000 to take it apart and make sure for sure or get a replacement engine. Rip
suprisingly when i took my car to the dealership they had left the cap open and stuffed between the side of the larger reservoir and the charge pipe. I was so mad when i opened the hood a week later.
My IAT's are shooting up 140-160f. They do drop back down by itself after a minute or so. No overheating, no coolant loss. Second coolant tank is full, doesnt seem to move. Which pump controls the small tank? Thinking one of the aux pumps (not sure which one controls it in the Supra) or a fuse.
Hello kern please may you help me I have a g32 model b58 engine so a couple of months ago I was losing coolant dramatically I took the car to bmw the done a pressure test and advised to change the radiator and a few other pipes I did that and two weeks later the coolant low sign came up again and I could hear a bubbling noise coming from the coolant I took the car back to bmw and they have done a pressure test again but they cannot see any leaks they have suggested to change the intake manifold and then re asses the situation I am worried that if I change this there might still be another issue I am praying it’s not a issue to with the head gasket the only current symptoms is coolant bubbling what do u think could be the problem as the technicians at bmw are confused themselves they cannot exactly point there finger to the exact problem
thats a crap ton of plastic hose connecting more plastic connector. No doubt within few years of expansion and contraction due to heat will cause them to crack, leak in typical BMW fashion.
great video . . . just watched your other demo of bleeding the cooling system which I found very helpful. Out of interest, why does the aircon fail to blow cold air if the low temp circuit loses coolant. I assumed the refrigerant cycle in the aircon was separate from the low temp coolant circuit and for heating . . . surely the car heater would use the high temp circuit - just interested to know. Many thanks. Also, my 2016 140 has exposed readiators and I lashed some nets to the front kidney grilles but would like something more permanent and so will look at these guards if available in the UK - a far neater solution
Is there a seal you can just replace on the cap? Guessing the caps are cheap (main or intercoolant tanks) but be cool if there was a 2$ o-ring we could just replace (McMaster Carr anyone? 😁). Edit: Actually just looked at mine (2017 440i GC). There are 3 o-rings on the main cap and one on the lower. One of the main cap seals and the only seal on the intercooler cap are def hard to get to but not too hard if you use something plastic to avoid damaging the retaining flanges in the plastic caps. You could probably order the o-rings bulk and sell a replacement seal kit (about 10$ for a pack of 100 oil resistant o-rings) but not likely cost effective for individuals with 3 different size o-rings..

Hey Mate, been dealing with this issue on my 2016 m140i . Haven ´t got the time to get it to my dealer and I am a Bit scared since I ve got mhd stage 1 on it for about about a couple hundret km. Do you think that the stage 1 map caused the coolant loss By the higher boost? The 1 series Community in german forums started a thread about the Engine coolant loss issue caused By left air in the manufacturing process. Some of them also mentioned coolant loss in the charge air System . What do you think ?
With MHD, do you know what I should look at to see the true IAT related to the intercooler? The only ones I see seem to relate to the MAF temps or Charge temps (pre-intercooler)
Quick question. This happened to me and I replaces the intercooler heat exchanger witha MAD one but I still have the same code coming up. Checked and no apparent leaks. Is there anything I have to do?? Is there a particular way to refill after installing the new heat exchanger?? I just poured the coolant into the reservoir.
I need help. My electric cooling pump for charge air is running when car is off. Pump is not stopping. I need to open and close the car 2 or 3 times to stop the pump. The pump is draining the battery. The car was imported from USA. There is no any modification done with the engine. HELP HELP
My small tank was empty so I filled it up at midnight and the next morning it was completely gone. I did a pressure test and found nothing wrong with no leaks. My ac also stopped blowing cold. What else could it be? Also my main large tank is fine though. It’s just the small one.
@@sali9875 got it fixed. Ac compressor was turning off to prevent overheating from overheating engine because water pump and thermostat needed to be changed. Then found a tiny coolant hose leak when doing water pump so got that fixed. Everything is fine now.

Really helpful video! Thanks for sharing, I had AC cold air loss today after a 3-hour driving. Let me check the small tank tomorrow and see.

Good look bro! Thank you
Thanks for the info.
Nice video as always Kern! Now I gotta go check my tank lmaoo
Thanks man!
Thanks for this informative video. Even I have only a b48 330i, but similar cooling system. 👍
Yep the concept is the same for the b-series engines
Excelente aporte. Muchas gracias...

Yes. Just don't get into boost or push it. The car will feel like it has no power even if you did

I see how it would be caused by increasing boost. You'll need to diagnose it and try to find the leak
What to change if exhaust is smoking coolant
i have this code but im leaking coolant under driver fog light side what could it be?
Where can i purchase the coolant pressure tester?
Do you have to bleed the system for the intercooler system or do you just top it off ?
Just top it off
With MHD, do you know what I should look at to see the true IAT related to the intercooler? The only ones I see seem to relate to the MAF temps or Charge temps (pre-intercooler)
It should be listed as "IAT*F" based on the mhd logs I've seen in the past. Pre-ic temps will typically be 250F+.
I have this problem now, I have a F80 with s55 engine, but I can not find any leaks and I don’t see coolant somewhere.. anyone know where to look?
check your intercooler
If I change my intake manifold do I have to bleed it? Or if I bleed coolant system I am bleeding manifold too?
