there's ALWAYS a deeper meaning in a song, even when the writer doesn't intend to put it there. lyrics are a window into the soul of the songwriter, therefore they are fair game for psychoanalysis.
Module79L They're not into metal or rock. They don"t listen to metal or rock outside of their reactions. I doubt Sori could remember riffs from Holy Wars or Master Of Puppets
TheAskald, you seem to know a lot about their lives. And by "people" I was referring to Vini only. Next you're going to tell me that a guy who knows Korn, Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden or Nirvana doesn't listen to Rock or Metal.
Module79L Dude, Vin didn't know Nothing Else Matters last week, there's a difference between knowing 4-5 songs of some metal bands and BEING INTO metal. But that's totally fine! That's because they're discovering metal that we can have their reaction

Ozzy didn't write very many lyrics but he did re-arrange versus so they better fit the structure of the songs. After Black Sabbath, he has only written the lyrics and part of the melody to one song. He had the lyrics, melody and part of the keyboards/piano to "Goodbye to Romance" which was inspired by him being fired from Black Sabbath. Bob Daisley wrote nearly all of the songs for Ozzy until Zakk Wylde joined. Ozzy continues his talent for rearranging the verses and harmonizing with keys for better results.
Aaron A. Foster Yet he screws the other guys out of their money, I use to love Ozzy, But his business practices suck, All of his solo prodjects were remastered so he did not have to pay his band members any royalties.
This was a freestyle basically. They needed to fill 3 minutes in the album . Ozzy is reading the words for the first time as they recorded. There was no rehearsal to this song.
Mike Washburn Ozzy's stuff is classic but I kinda prefer the Dio era sound and "of course" Dio's voice.

Paranoid is the most famous BS song... influenced the whole punk movement. ''the I will sigh'' part... mean he is the joke. The song is about a person that cant socially express himself. Who have not been there right?
ACTUALLY!!!!.....They needed one 3 minute song to Fill the album. lyrics are by Geezer Butler who did most lyrics for the Black Sabbath and it was made in 2 hours or so. The band wanted the album be named War Pigs but the label wanted it to be Paranoid In the interview, Geezer talks about the song, “Paranoid,” and how the album cover was chosen. “The whole story of how we created that song is funny,” Geezer said. “It became the most popular song from the album, but it wasn't something we thought much of when we wrote it. In fact, we finished the record and then the producer told us we needed one more song to finish up the album, so we just came up with ‘Paranoid’ on the spot. Tony [Iommi] just played this riff and we all went along with it. We didn’t think anything of it.” But then, Black Sabbath’s record company decided that, because they thought “Paranoid” was the best song on the album, Paranoid should also be the title of the LP. “We had originally wanted the record to be called War Pigs, and that’s what the record company was planning as well when [they] came up with the record cover, which is really horrible to begin with,” Geezer said. “We didn’t like it at all, but the label put it together, so we were stuck with it. The cover was bad enough when the album was going to be War Pigs, but when it was Paranoid it didn’t even make sense [laughs].”
The album this is from (Paranoid) was meant to be called "War Pigs" off of that song. But Black Sabbath was told that they needed to make a single for the album. Iommi made a riff and then Geezer Butler, their bassist, wrote the lyrics and later admitted he had no idea what the word paranoid meant when he wrote it. Supposedly they did that all in about a half hour. The single was released, became a hit, and then the label changed the name of the album to Paranoid because of it. The song is super popular among fans and is easily one of their more well-known songs, but it was never meant to be a masterpiece like their other songs. I'd highly recommend "Planet Caravan," the song after this one on the album. (Also, almost all of the lyrics of early Black Sabbath are written by Butler, not Ozzy.)
Without this song you wouldn't have 90% of the music you have reacted to. Tbh I don't really know how someone had gotten this far in there life without hearing this song at least over 40 times.😂
Paranoid=Quick, manic, burst of energy. It's like a pre-punk song. Hey as difficult as life can be you can't be with someone who don't see your struggle.
For those who haven’t heard this song before, judging it now after listening to so many types of modern age metal is like giving an old rotary telephone to a kid today and asking them what they thought of it as a phone. Context is everything. Black Sabbath and Ozzy are legend trailblazers in the realm of metal. Their contribution laid the foundation for what we listen to and enjoy today. Together with other giants like Led Zepplin, Rush, Deep Purple, Rainbow, ...
Khaled Akbik Very well said. Sometimes you have to grow up with the music or movie to appreciate more what it is. Like you said, often CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING : for years, that song was So Cool 😎 Forget the lyrics❗️
Geezer Butler wrote this song about himself. The reason Ozzy sings the lyrics in that fast paced flow is because they had never rehearsed it and he was reading the lyrics for the first time as they recorded it. They had no time to rehearse it because thye were low on studio time. However luckily for them that fast paced "desperate" sounding flow worked well for the song. Also this was a deeply personal, direct and blunt profession / statement made by butler concerning his depression. There is not meant to be any deeper meaning or symbolism. It's not meant to be complicated. It's a brutally honest confession. I appreciate it for that. And yes Vin, it's not of the complexity you are used to from Ozzy because Ozzy did not write it.
Paranoid, to me, has always been a song about depression. Ignore the title of the song and the meaning becomes pretty clear. Geezer Butler (who wrote the lyrics) admitted that he didn't really know what the word paranoid meant at the time, he just heard it and used it for the song title. But the meaning behind the song feels like he's talking about living in a constant state of depression to me. Also, this song was written very quickly, and thrown in as just an extra filler song towards the end of the recording. Which is why the lyrics seem very "pedestrian" compared to some of the other songs. It was basically the result of a 20 min jam session right there in the studio. It just so happened that was the song that became their biggest radio hit.
This song was written in 20 min and was just suposed to be a filler song but it got popular and they just went with it ! :) love oyu guys :* from iceland
Yeah it’s weird, although I think after a few more listens they’d appreciate it. Should’ve just gave the whole album a listen, it’s more palatable for first time listeners that way.
Seeing them perform this live was amazing. The entire show was amazing. I couldn't listen to recorded Sabbath for over a year after seeing them live. It doesn't even come close to the live experience.
Ozzy sings this song out of the brain of a Paranoid person, so it is hard to understand in our point a view, but a Paranoid person thinks not as we do. this song makes him great and rich,
Paranoid as mentioned "was written for bassist Geezer Butler who had no idea what the word meant" It brought an underground band to the notice of many. It reached no 4 in the UK charts. It also was on juke boxes in every pub in my local town and probably all juke boxes in UK. I never heard of Black Sabbath until Paranoid got into UK charts. Thank you Black Sabbath for releasing Paranoid
Woohoo! So cool to see you guys reacting to some more Sabbath! Just for your information, Tony Iommi, the guitarist of Sabbath, lost the fingertips of 2 or 3 of this fingers on the hand that "fingers" the guitar, he lost them in a factory when he was still under 20, if I recall correctly. However he didn't give up and kept practicing. Also Iommi single handedly invented metal, if you so will. He invented that heavy guitar-sound and founded the sound of metal. so yeah :D Maybe you might not like the song, but I just had to give some info here :)
r Oy didn’t he create his own tips to go on his fingers that he lost, flipped the guitar and plays left handed, also detuned string so the tension on his fingers we less the resulting sound birthing the metal tone.
Yeah, man! thats true. he made his own fingertips, played the guitar the other way and put the strings the other way AND invented the sound of metal as we know it today, all while being poor and living a worker's life in England. Damn.
r Oy Yeh i think the incident happened when it was his last day of working in the factory, he was quitting to go full time into music-I think. Im not quite sure if its correct
to be fair, they did two reviews of Maiden tunes (number of the beast and hallowed be thy name) and did beast a 8.9 out of 10. but yeah, waaaaaaaay too much Metallica and not enough Maiden. Been requesting (along with a lot of other people) for Rime of the Ancient Mariner for the past 16 days now. Hoping they seen it.
This song was written as an afterthought as filler for the record and was written in 10 minutes, don't overthink it. BTW, Ozzy didn't write Crazy Train or really any song on his first two solo albums, Bod Daisley and Lee Kerslake did and then his wife Sharon fired everyone that made them successful.
This was sooooo way ahead of its time. I was 5 when this came out but I'll bet it scared the crap out of a lot of parents listening to what their kids were listening to in 1970.
Gives voice to people dealing with depression. Paranoid? because he is paranoid about the joy other people around him are experiencing when he doesn't feel the same way, doesn't understand why he isn't feeling the same joy - asks what is wrong with me? am I crazy? why can't I enjoy life like everyone else seems to be, why is everyone laughing? why don't I find it funny too? - makes him feel paranoid. Great riff and awesome solo - pure grunge!
Ozzy just has a very unique voice though he has some technicality as seen in Sabotage and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath that he can sing very well when trying but I think he is rated so high because not only is he a "good" singer but he is a legendary frontman both on and off stage
You guys need to dig your hands deeper into the metaphorical Black Sabbath pot, their stuff immediately gets better after their third album “Master of Reality”. You guys have only been listening to stuff from the first two albums, which came out in the same year might I add, that being 1970.
Into the void !!! really great song from them ! also would truly appreciate some EXODUS reactions , you'll literally be the first ones to react to them , do METAL COMMAND, STRIKE OF THE BEAST or LESSON IN VIOLENCE !!! you'll love them vin ! pure classic thrash metal !
Abraxas Voice reviewing your comment I noticed that I miss read, I thought you wrote Children of the Grave. Children of the Sea has a much more calm kind of relaxing intro but both are great songs.
Paranoid is the most radio friendly song of Black Sabbath and that's why it's so popular. Black Sabbath - Electric Funeral, A National Acrobat, Heaven and Hell, Die Young
I'm sad that Sori had to grow up without commercial pop and rock music. Well you've been doing good job catching up! Keep up doing the good stuff you two!
Jeez, Ozzy was 22 and on drugs and it was 1970. How much you want to analyse the lyrics? The record-company ordered them to write a single, and that's what they did. Point!
I feel that your critic about Paranoid does not flow as in other critics. This one is too constipated. Just think about this. The first encounter with Ozzie by a band member, happened when he was petting a shoe down some steps!!
More than you know by Adestria.. The song explains the loss of a loved one to cancer which has so much meaning to me with having lost my mother to cancer back in 2011. Love your channel and love you guys!
Led Zeppelin HATES being considered an inspiration for Heavy Metal and will do everything they can to separate themselves from the equation. So would Ritchie Blackmore for the longest time until he started hanging around with other Metal guitarists.
This is an iconic song loved by old metal heads because when it come out in 1970 nobody had ever heard something this heavy before, yes today it seems dated but in it's day there was nothing around like it. It was pure headbanging music and very shocking to those who where not in to metal. This can not be compared to today's music but you have songs like this to thanks for a lot of the metal music you hear today because Sabbath influenced so many to pick up the guitar and pump out massive heavy riffs if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have had the likes of Metallica or at least the Metallica we know today. This is something you need to take in to consideration when reacting to old songs, music and technology has moved forward so much that when this was written and recorded it was totally new and it scared everyone hence that's why it was so popular in it's 70's heyday. Just as flower power come to an end as people had grown tired of it and needed something new this hit the airwaves. At this time in life a new genre was born, WELCOME TO HEAVY METAL, with out songs like this it wouldn't of happened !
Lol....basically you have no idea of rock music , this song was originally as a filler song to the album, but the record company loved it so much they wanted the album to be called Paranoid, it's about someone in the band they called Paranoid and he didn't know what paranoid meant, he was always miserable and thought people were after him ...but as I said it was a filler song , but became one of the greatest rock songs ever ...daftest reaction I've ever heard by the way 🤣🤣🤣
Andrew Brorherton That's what I was thinking as well. And Blackie has such a unique voice. Babylon's Burning is about the state of the world and the opening of the 7 seals. The new Stryper is pretty good as well. Still religious but not so in your face, i guess. Plus Sweets voice has toned down a notch or two, so its not so high pitched.
I feel bad for you that you didn't enjoy this song. From birth this song was apart of my life, and when I got my license I had this 8track in my truck from my dad's collection. It was part of the soundtrack of my life. Many experiences with this song contribute to why this is so important to me. I wish you could enjoy that feeling too
black sabbath is one of my favorite bands. and this is probably the most famous song by them. BUT, this song is the furthest from what sabbath actually is, what it started and what it represents. this song is like eurovision presentation of black sabbath. songs like black sabbath, war pigs, nib, electric funeral (you could react to this one, it is an amazing doom song), sweet leaf, children of the grave, snowblind, sabbath bloody sabbath, sabbra cadabra, etc... are what sabbath really is. paranoid is cool nice little radio friendly song, but it is nowhere near representation of the black sabbath.
The record label said they didn't hear a single and gave them a day to give them one. They wrote and recorded Paranoid overnight. Paranoid also became the album title.
I really wish you two would do some research before saying stuff thats so worng about the band or song. OZZY doesnt write lyrics! Geezer writes the lyrics! Ozzy only does the singing melodies. Also this song was written on the spot at the end of the recording sessions for the album, which was named War Pigs...the producers had them write a song on the spot and it ended up being Paranoid. they released it as the first single and it blew up on radio so they renamed the album Paranoid upon release. DO some research please becasue IM getting tired of hearing false info...Im not liking the channel as much as I used too.
Well I don’t think it’s really that big of s deal. We purposely don’t research songs to get the most authentic reaction possible. What does it matter what the circumstances were on the writing? We’re judging the song based on its own merits. We really on die hard fans to tell us the history of the song and we learn from them. I don’t know if you have a channel yourself but there’s no way we’d be able to produce at the rate we’re producing if we researched all the songs. Like we always say, there’s TONS of channels you can go to that will give you the response to your favorite bands you want to hear. We’re not one of them. When we like a song, we like it, when we don’t we’re honest.
Well ACTUALLEEEE!!!! lol ... becasue you said..." This came from the guy that wrote Crazy Train?"...which Ozzy didnt write that either. Ozzy doesnt write anything. Its really not a big deal, but if new listeners come here to hear these songs and possibly make a descison off your reaction and statement...well its a deal of some sort. You could do the research after you listen, or just some basic research on the band and not the song would help. Ive seen VIn say a lot of false stuff about Megadeth and Metallica too. It matters to most ppl that come here to see the reaction to songs they love.
And one last thing Id like to say is...I was not upset about your score or thoughts about the song or songs you review. No need to say "go somehwere else if you dont like it". I just want you to know that facts about the bands are important in a world that believes anything and everything they hear on the internet. And a little research and integrity about your knowledge of the bands will go a long way with your fans and will noly HELP you in the long run. Incorrect statement will only hurt the channel. Ractions and scores are irrelevant. Take some hints from fellow reactionist Alex Hefner... his does a brief research on the bands before he reacts...it doesnt hurt or shape his reaction in any bad way. Good day friends :)
You know, i've learned a lot from watching you two. I used to go to a Roman Catholic elementary school through the duration of my schooling, and it ruined religion for me. It made me think that all Catholics (and Christians) were closed minded and prude, to put it nicely. But here I see you through multiple videos, going deep into philosophy, digging into meanings of songs that I hadn't even considered. When you reacted to Ghosts year Zero, the philosophy and knowledge of other religions and philosophys like Buddhism that was coming out of Vins mouth astounded me. I never knew there were cool level headed Christians out there. Maybe Christianity is different than Roman Catholisism, in that regard, i'm not sure... but for some reason i'm now compelled to read the Bible, and look into Christianity as something to adopt into my belief system. What version of the Bible do you recommend? I was to read the earliest translation I can, because I know that some things were lost to subsiquent translations. Dude, you guys are cool. The kind of people I could chill with. Not like my ex girlfriend at all who thought that everything I enjoyed from music, to movies was the Devils work. I never knew cool Christians like you existed. Thank you for opening my mind.
I wouldn't say things are lost in subsequent translations, if you use a good version. Some of the newer version may have a better understanding of what the original Greek meant, in context, rather than the word the KJV uses. I'm not one of those that says you must use the KJV or you won't get to Heaven. Really? So no one that can't speak/read KJ English can't be saved? Anyways, personally I use an NIV version (printed in the '80s) but there are other good translations out there besides the NIV (and yes, I'm aware of some of the 'issues' people have with the NIV).
What do you recommend for something I could order off Amazon? I'd like to get a Christian Bible that's as close to the original translation (or uses that as its source material) as possible. Catholic school used to have the "good news bible"... I just want the bible Bible. No sugar coating, just as close to the original language as possible.
I would recommend a Bible that has an extreme amount of footnotes in it then, something that lets you know "this word in the original texts could also mean 'xyz' ", type of footnotes. Not sure what translations/editions to recommend, maybe Vin would have an idea?
TomForNow its sad because being Catholic myself i was taught that we were to be open minded and discuss all topics with people from all faiths, sadly that teaching either stopped or is ignored.
Interestingly, the lyrics of the last verse are often misheard. People were committing suicide (at least one), referring to the (misheard) verse: "I tell you to end your life, I wish I could - but it's too late". And honestly, this was what I understood the first time I heard the song ;) Glad I looked the lyrics up :D
This is the perfect 2 minute nugget. Perfect. Like the Stooges' Search & Destroy. Perfect. Like the Dead Boys' Sonic Reducer. Perfect. Like Holocaust's Death Or Glory. Like Maiden's Prowler. All little slabs of perfection!!!
This song actualy was written in 5 minutes...the album producer said to them that there were like 5 minutes left in the record so they wrote that and it ended being a huge hit, ozzy likes that song so much that he sings this every show since then, and the album was named paranoid after this tune
I was 13 when this song was released and first heard it when I was 16. When this album (the big black vinyl discs) was released it was earth shattering.... no other bands sounded remotely like Black Sabbath. You’re “review” is listening to this song with “today’s ears” (greatly out of context) You had to be there to appreciate it. If you spent less time nit picking each verse, each word and just listened maybe you would understand. At a time When there was only 3 television networks and Laurence Welk and Buck Owens are what we Had to watch with our parents. The music of Black Sabbath was mind blowing and earth shattering. 47 years later......I have 10,000 songs on my IPod....... everything from the Beatles, to Lady Gaga and of course the entire Ozzy Osborne and Black Sabbath catalog.... I still listen to Paranoid..... and love like I did when I was 16 Grand Funk Railroad has there own Version of paranoid also, give it a listen
Fun fact: Tony Iommi (Guitarist) lost fingertips on his left hand, and made his own prostheses so he could continue to play. He STILL uses his own prostheses (not sure if they are still the original ones)..
keep in mind that this song was made in less than an hour. The paranoid album was supposed to be called war pigs, but they were told to change the name. so they changed it to paranoid
Here you go... Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler (from Guitar World magazine, March 2004): "A lot of the Paranoid album was written around the time of our first album, Black Sabbath. We recorded the whole thing in about two or three days, live in the studio. The Song 'Paranoid' was written as an afterthought. We basically needed a 3-minute filler for the album, and Tony came up with the riff. I quickly did the lyrics, and Ozzy was reading them as he was singing."
Andrew Brorherton I shall ignore your rudeness while I acknowledge the fact that you disagree. Please be more informative and less emotional when expressing opinions.
People that disagree with my comment act like I told them that Ghost needs to be the next reaction, check again; I did not. I only suggested that at least me and other people that agree want to see one of the songs in the close future.
For the love of God we do not need more Ghost haha. They’re okay but i could never work out to Ghost, or play it at a party. There’s up and coming metal bands i’d rather hear
1970, This song was writiien as a "filler" for the album Warpigs..though the recordcompany didn't want to name the album Warpigs bacause of the war in vietnam, and they wanted to release it to the USA aswell. It is written by bassplayer Terrence "Geezer" Butler about how he felt people where treating him by just looking at him when he was stoned.
Hating me is conforming, keep trying! It's a numbers game, popular vote wins a good amount of time but not always. I'm waiting for Hypocrisy or Carcass but it might not come for a good long while.
bill seemore Popular vote wins? Really? Opeth and Btbam had way more requests than Korn and yet we got 10 Korn songs so far. Not to mention Otep. Pink Floyd got entire album out of few requests etc... I am not complaining. I don't care what they do. If I like some song I will listen to it. I don't need them to do a video about it. My point was that I am sure they saw btbam reqs already. A also saw them saying something about copyrights.
Paranoid is even in Sabbath's own words a throw away song. It was a 3 mins that they had to fill on the album, it was written and i believe recorded in around 20 mins and it became pretty much their most well known song, reached number 4 in the UK charts, which for a band with their sound was incredible for 1970's let alone in the UK at that time. Just to end here is a quote from Geezer Butler about this song "Basically, it’s just about depression, because I didn’t really know the difference between depression and paranoia. It’s a drug thing; when you’re smoking a joint you get totally paranoid about people, you can’t relate to people. There’s that crossover between the paranoia you get when you’re smoking dope and the depression afterwards." "“I used to be a cutter. I’d cut my arms, stick pins in my fingers, that kind of thing. I used to get really depressed and it was the only thing that could bring me out from it. If Sabbath hadn’t made it, I’d have been long dead. I’d have killed myself."
Albeit, one of their most popular songs of all time. It’s still a boring song. You should have chosen something more interesting, “After Forever”, “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath”, “Megalomania”. Anything really! And I’m a huge fan of Sabbath, but paranoid was written during their Lunch break and is just a filler, it was never meant to be great. And Ozzy didn’t write songs, not this one and not Crazy Train. He came up with melodies not lyrics for the most part.
Believe it or not, back in ancient times (1970), people sometimes wrote music just for fun and there didn't have to be some deep emo meaning to it...
And actually this song was a complete after thought. They needed an extra couple of minutes and came up with this within a day I believe
ye but this was written about gezzer butlers teenage depression , so it did have a meaning to it.
Also, they didn't wirte songs to get famous, they just made music because they felt like doing it.
there's ALWAYS a deeper meaning in a song, even when the writer doesn't intend to put it there.
lyrics are a window into the soul of the songwriter, therefore they are fair game for psychoanalysis.
carcar jinks Hokie pokie?
It still amazes me to this day, to find people who are into Rock music or Metal and never heard this song before. : )
Module79L They're not into metal or rock. They don"t listen to metal or rock outside of their reactions. I doubt Sori could remember riffs from Holy Wars or Master Of Puppets

once again it is unfortunate that the reviewrs above feel the need to disrespect the band who created a genre of music.
you don't know much about rock or metal, to much metalicaca you and your partner SUCK!!! SABBATH STARTED IT ALL BUT YOU WOULDN'T KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE SONG,
Fun Fact: Paranoid was written for bassist Geezer Butler who had no idea what the word meant.
And in only 20 minutes, They hated the song, They needed it for filler...LOL
Heard him in an interview explain, that it was just something they used to say all the time 😊
Ozzy didn't write very many lyrics but he did re-arrange versus so they better fit the structure of the songs. After Black Sabbath, he has only written the lyrics and part of the melody to one song. Aaron A. Foster

Chris P Bacon That's Sharon's bloodthirsty business practices. She's the business mastermind behind Ozzy.
This was a freestyle basically. They needed to fill 3 minutes in the album . Ozzy is reading the words for the first time as they recorded. There was no rehearsal to this song.
ozzy is a god!
amazing!
how come that there is an earlier version on the demo with different lyrics?
Calixtus borg maybe that was the original. I just know that this song was done and recorded without ever being rehearsed
Calixtus borg I heard a version where Ozzy is just making up the lyrics as he goes, he was just practicing how to sing the actual lyrics.
Probably THE best song that was written in the studio in 20 minutes for a filler track. That being said, they have SO much better music.
SOOO MUCH BETTER like Electric Funeral,Hand of Doom,Into the Void and the list goes on and on lol
After forver
Mike Washburn Those are just the Ozzy years.....Dio era had a BUNCH too.
Oh hell yeah man....heaven and hell and so much more. My favorite Sabbath years are the Ozzy years but I like all of em man
Mike Washburn Ozzy's stuff is classic but I kinda prefer the Dio era sound and "of course" Dio's voice.
Paranoid is the most famous BS song... influenced the whole punk movement.
''the I will sigh'' part... mean he is the joke. The song is about a person that cant socially express himself. Who have not been there right?
Yuri Guimarães . That is Correcto my amigo!!🤘🤘🤘
I think Iron Man is more famous
ACTUALLY!!!!.....They needed one 3 minute song to Fill the album. lyrics are by Geezer Butler who did most lyrics for the Black Sabbath and it was made in 2 hours or so. The band wanted the album be named War Pigs but the label wanted it to be Paranoid
In the interview, Geezer talks about the song, “Paranoid,” and how the album cover was chosen.
We didn’t think anything of it.”
But then, Black Sabbath’s record company decided that, because they thought “Paranoid” was the best song on the album, Paranoid should also be the title of the LP.
“We had originally wanted the record to be called War Pigs, and that’s what the record company was planning as well when [they] came up with the record cover, which is really horrible to begin with,” Geezer said. “We didn’t like it at all, but the label put it together, so we were stuck with it. The cover was bad enough when the album was going to be War Pigs, but when it was Paranoid it didn’t even make sense [laughs].”
that album cover is trash tier tho he's so right
You don’t have to write a book explaining why this song is great. They will never appreciate it anyway.
Simon Shankleton planet caravan is soo awesome, and the song solitude
True. Almost all of Black Sabbath's lyrics were written by Geezer Butler.
Simon Shankleton I really prefer the Pantera cover of Planet Caravan over the original.
Khaled Akbik nah. Speaking as a youngster, it’s still fresh today.
Jason Respect!
Khaled Akbik Very well said. Sometimes you have to grow up with the music or movie to appreciate more what it is. Like you said, often CONTEXT IS EVERYTHING : for years, that song was So Cool 😎
Forget the lyrics❗️
Well said
Geezer Butler wrote this song about himself.
This is my favorite Black Sabbath song! I don't care about the lyrics, I love the music. It has an empowering heavy feel to it! It always lifts me up!
Y'all want a Sabbath song you can discuss, try Under The Sun, Hole In The Sky, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath or After Forever
Syphtym of the universe (idk how to write pls correct me)
Children of the Grave.
Wheels of Confusion! prolly a song no one ever reacted to haha but its a great Song.
Or go dio, and check out computer god
Yes, much better suggestions (musically and lyrically).
Great song! Unfortunate that you didn't like it.
Roadstar1602 don't understand why they didnt
Yeah it’s weird, although I think after a few more listens they’d appreciate it. Should’ve just gave the whole album a listen, it’s more palatable for first time listeners that way.
I have to agree. They're reading way too much into the lyrics, failing to just enjoy the groove.
boy lost his balls over feminist reaction at first lirics :P
they don't like much.
Seeing them perform this live was amazing. The entire show was amazing. I couldn't listen to recorded Sabbath for over a year after seeing them live. It doesn't even come close to the live experience.
Not every song needs to be profound
Song talks about depression that's what the line "you make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry" is symbolising
had enough of these disrespectful reactions, later
Ozzy sings this song out of the brain of a Paranoid person, so it is hard to understand in our point a view, but a Paranoid person thinks not as we do.
this song makes him great and rich,
"Such a short song"
...and yet you still spend 29 minutes on it.
The Black Queen that is hilarious! They spent more time on the song then Black Sabbath took to write it. Haha
The Black Queen these guys reviewing this are totally clueless
He invented that heavy guitar-sound and founded the sound of metal.
so yeah :D
Maybe you might not like the song, but I just had to give some info here :)
r Oy didn’t he create his own tips to go on his fingers that he lost, flipped the guitar and plays left handed, also detuned string so the tension on his fingers we less the resulting sound birthing the metal tone.
Yeah, man! thats true. he made his own fingertips, played the guitar the other way and put the strings the other way AND invented the sound of metal as we know it today, all while being poor and living a worker's life in England.
Damn.
r Oy Yeh i think the incident happened when it was his last day of working in the factory, he was quitting to go full time into music-I think. Im not quite sure if its correct
So glad you guys reacted to this song. This is probably one of my favourite songs of all time. You guys rock. Much love and support from South Africa.
React to Iron Maiden - Rime of the Ancient Mariner.
Yes please!
UP THE IRONS!!!!!!!!!!!
The Metallica douchebag seems to hate Iron Maiden
to be fair, they did two reviews of Maiden tunes (number of the beast and hallowed be thy name) and did beast a 8.9 out of 10. but yeah, waaaaaaaay too much Metallica and not enough Maiden. Been requesting (along with a lot of other people) for Rime of the Ancient Mariner for the past 16 days now. Hoping they seen it.
UP THE IRONS 🤘🤘
Aww, as teenagers in the 70's we was rocking when we heard these songs, OMG it was the best thang we was ever hearing.
PINK FLOYD - SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND !!!
NOT a bad song...
and...Ozzy is often rated one of the top 5 vocalists in metal history...he is often near the top of the "best lists"
I can't put him as top 5 in history when he isn't even the best vocalist in his own band.
All that says is that people don't know what the fuck they're talking about.
Well Dio...is often deservedly #1.
Ozzy just has a very unique voice though he has some technicality as seen in Sabotage and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath that he can sing very well when trying but I think he is rated so high because not only is he a "good" singer but he is a legendary frontman both on and off stage
My all time favorite black sabbath tune. Have been a sabbath fan since 1978
Vinn my brother thank you for being so open minded and sori my sister thank you for being so kind you both are great people
Open minded? Really
I love Paranoid. Great song. :)
Hayden Rackley .how about trying Sabbath "children of the sea"
Thats a classic! I love that badass intro that it has!
In my mind and heart, a relationship is where people who care deeply about each other strive to make each others lives Easier. Not more difficult.
Black Sabbath - Children of the Grave
NIB. Nativity in black
of the sea also
It's always a joyful occasion when I see one of your uploads
Jeez, Ozzy was 22 and on drugs and it was 1970. How much you want to analyse the lyrics? The record-company ordered them to write a single, and that's what they did. Point!
Don't give a fuck what you think of this song but it is bad ass and still headbanging to it
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark (live Rock in Rio 2001)
Fear of the Dark-Flight 666
How can you not like this song? Great riff. It's in my playlist.
Iron Maiden - Rime Of The Ancient Mariner [Flight 666 DVD]
Short, sweet and to the point. And a definite example of the mythology overshadowing the content. A wonderful expression of angst and disconnect .
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell. Dio on vocals will blow your mind!
Fun Fact; This is the best Metal song of all time according to 360.000+ people just do your research.
Heaven and hell by black sabbath.
Black Sabbath - "A National Acrobat" is the heaviest song ever written. The riff is epic
Why only Black Sabbath or Judas Priest as heavy metal groundworks!? Why no Deep Purple or Led Zeppelin too?
led zeppelin videos always get taken down
Antonio Maraspin deep purple and led zeppelin are more rock than metal, thats why
Antonio Maraspin Zepplin will block the video almost immediately. Many have tried to react to them.
TCM If you want to get all technical, then perhaps they are a blues band.
If you get married, and love each other, no boundaries.
Lol....basically you have no idea of rock music , this song was originally as a filler song to the album, but the record company loved it so much they wanted the album to be called Paranoid, it's about someone in the band they called Paranoid and he didn't know what paranoid meant, he was always miserable and thought people were after him ...but as I said it was a filler song , but became one of the greatest rock songs ever ...daftest reaction I've ever heard by the way 🤣🤣🤣
W.A.S.P. - Heaven's Hung in Black.
- Babylon's Burning.
- Golgotha.
Stryper - The Valley.
Digimortal One Haven't heard Babylon Burning but the other two would be interesting to see how they react.
Andrew Brorherton That's what I was thinking as well. And Blackie has such a unique voice. Babylon's Burning is about the state of the world and the opening of the 7 seals.
The new Stryper is pretty good as well. Still religious but not so in your face, i guess. Plus Sweets voice has toned down a notch or two, so its not so high pitched.
also Chainsaw Charlie
Mertcan Bulak one of my personal favourites is Mean Man.
All great songs among many from WASP and from STRYPER
Good day. Already explained why we don’t research. It’s by design. Fans will correct in comments. Happens every day 😉
It's cathartic to watch Vin diving head first into a puddle expecting it to be a pond :D
Thanks for that my man!
These 2 are the reason why, when you are cruising down the motorway at night- suddenly there are headlights coming towards you with a honking horn...
Dio - Don't Talk to Strangers
daniel bustillo . Wow..now that is a powerful request. A masterpiece🤘🤘🤘
Dude, this song is 48 years old, one of the first ever metal songs it's got to be appreciated just for that
Blind Guardian - imagination From The Other Side
Interestingly, the lyrics of the last verse are often misheard. People were committing suicide (at least one), referring to the (misheard) verse: "I tell you to end your life, I wish I could - but it's too late". And honestly, this was what I understood the first time I heard the song ;) Glad I looked the lyrics up :D
ManOwaR - Mountains
This is the perfect 2 minute nugget. Perfect.
Like the Stooges' Search & Destroy. Perfect.
Like the Dead Boys' Sonic Reducer. Perfect.
Like Holocaust's Death Or Glory.
Like Maiden's Prowler.
All little slabs of perfection!!!
U should do Dio - holy diver, heaven n hell
This song actualy was written in 5 minutes...the album producer said to them that there were like 5 minutes left in the record so they wrote that and it ended being a huge hit, ozzy likes that song so much that he sings this every show since then, and the album was named paranoid after this tune
ACTUALLY!!!! You have to react to Rime of the Ancient Mariner or Powerslave by Maiden damn it!
At a time When there was only 3 television networks and Laurence Welk and Buck Owens are what we
Had to watch with our parents.
The music of Black Sabbath was mind blowing and earth shattering.
47 years later......I have 10,000 songs on my IPod....... everything from the Beatles, to Lady Gaga and of course the entire Ozzy Osborne and Black Sabbath catalog....
I still listen to Paranoid..... and love like I did when I was 16
Grand Funk Railroad has there own
Version of paranoid also, give it a listen
React to Killer be Killed - Wings of feather and wax, great song by metal supergroup.
"Help me with my mind" makes me think of having peace of mind, and ultimately happiness. If a person doesn't make you happy, why be with them?
Please do BRAVE by KATATONIA :)
Ozzy's version, it was recorded, in that middle bridge, he shouts, "I wanna See You, Smile Into My face!"--- "Oh Yeah!
Iron maiden-powerslave
Fun fact: Tony Iommi (Guitarist) lost fingertips on his left hand, and made his own prostheses so he could continue to play. He STILL uses his own prostheses (not sure if they are still the original ones)..
keep in mind that this song was made in less than an hour. The paranoid album was supposed to be called war pigs, but they were told to change the name. so they changed it to paranoid
Septicflesh - Portrait of a headless man (official video)
Septicflesh - Vampire from Nazareth
Septicflesh - Prometheus
Septicflesh - Anubis
Septicflesh - Virtues of the beast
Septicflesh - Pyramid god
Septicflesh - Sangreal
Septicflesh - Martyr
Чпуньк Чпуньк i second this statement, Septicflesh is amazing. Portrait of a headless man & Martyr are the more recent video releases and solid songs.
PARANOID!!! The album that got me addicted to music! This album holds a part of my heart!
Katatonia - Leaders
If his mind is already bad, and a woman is making it worse, then she's not helping him with his mind = end relationship.
Slipknot - sulfur
Avenged Sevenfold - critical acclaim Live in the LBC or studio(for full lyrics)
YES!!
Omg I'm waiting for them to do Sulfur . . Sori is gonna love it!
🤘😎🤘
Here you go...
Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler (from Guitar World magazine, March 2004): "A lot of the Paranoid album was written around the time of our first album, Black Sabbath. We recorded the whole thing in about two or three days, live in the studio. The Song 'Paranoid' was written as an afterthought. We basically needed a 3-minute filler for the album, and Tony came up
with the riff. I quickly did the lyrics, and Ozzy was reading them as he was singing."
Rob Zombie - Dragula
This song is one of the blueprints for all of heavy metal.
Nonpoint the truth please bruah help me out
Good song
divinechaos_78 thanks bro
Many polls have this as greatest metal song ever
How about some more Ghost? Con clavi Con Dio or Faith would be great :3
Idolatrine is an awesome dance track too :)
Andrew Brorherton I shall ignore your rudeness while I acknowledge the fact that you disagree. Please be more informative and less emotional when expressing opinions.
both great choices
Between the Buried and Me
Hating me is conforming Give up already. They saw btbam request 100 times.
Hating me is conforming, keep trying! It's a numbers game, popular vote wins a good amount of time but not always. I'm waiting for Hypocrisy or Carcass but it might not come for a good long while.
bill seemore thanks man
Hating me is conforming, hopefully it will happen sooner or later.
bill seemore Popular vote wins?
Just to end here is a quote from Geezer Butler about this song
"Basically, it’s just about depression, because I didn’t really know the difference between depression and paranoia.
Whoa !
React to Heaven and Hell
Pantera-Floods, Slayer-Ghosts of War, Devastation-Deliver the Suffering, Kreator - Awakening of the Gods, Sepultura - Desperate cry, Stevie Ray Vaughan - Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) - 9/21/1985 - Capitol Theatre, Passaic, NJ
Makes sense
