    Recently replaced my damaged s20+ with a s22+. Looked at both the s22+ & s23+. Ebay prices (on supposedly new phones) were e.g. $330 for the s22+ and $638 for the s23+ from the same seller. The s23+ was not worth double the price.

    #1. Good video. #2. You should probably look into modifying your tools. #2.1. The dime... I had one of the first ones. It was impossible to open without another tool. I took it apart and took a small file to the tools I was having issues with. Just work on the opening parts, make sure you don't work on the parts that need to be tight when open. AND here is the warning I didn't get, go slow it doesn't need much. #2.2. The next tools, can they be taken apart and swap things around? i.e. Can I remove the knife and put something else in place.

    • @JohnScottB
      @JohnScottB 5 днів тому

      Thanks for the comment, you're right that I haven't gotten into modifying tools yet but that sounds like fun (and a slippery slope!). Not sure if the Nextools are intended to be swapped around. I tried to remove the belt clip from the E1 but you'd need a very specific right angle torx head wrench that is like proprietary to their factory. The mini sailors are like doable.

    I have the Explorer also but don't like how rigid the back of it is. Is the Aviator's back more flexible, allowing you to hug your chest better? Thanks for your time

    • @JohnScottB
      @JohnScottB 11 днів тому

      Yes it's a little less structured than the Explorer. The design of the strap system helps with the "chest hugging" a bit as well. But if that is a priority, my Bellroy slings do a much better job of confirming to whatever contours.

    The SOG Powerpint also has the crimper tool and has a lock. The black 'plastic' parts on the inside in closed position are to release the lock but of course you can also open another tool. I would call it a mid size tool and with the 84mm size it's the same size as my SAK Recruit so it still fits in the pocket easily. In town I usually EDC the Gerber Dime but out of curiousity just ordered the Nextool Mini Sailor.

      @@JohnScottB I have both the one with pliers and the one with scissors now since they arrived last week. I must say I'm very impressed. And for that price they make excellent mini multi pliers. Great for EDC. I think even better than the Dime although that's still great too. I also bought the Roxon M3 that comes with small bits and a bit holder. But these mini multitools I will EDC but not to replace a full size multitool. The SOG Powerpint I will because it has the stronger grip and has the normal size bit holder in the handle itself.

    • @JohnScottB
      @JohnScottB 4 дні тому

      @@StevanOutdoor nice, yeah I'm super impressed with everything from Nextool that I've tried. Seems like they have great QC because the praise is pretty universal. How do you like that Roxon? I looked at it but I didn't like that you have to open the handle for access to the other tools.

    • @StevanOutdoor
      @StevanOutdoor 4 дні тому

      @@JohnScottB I must agree. I bought two of their mini knives as well with the small blade, nail file/flat head screwdriver and the scissors and find them as good as Victorinox but a lot cheaper than the alox SAK's of it. So I added them to my kits also. I have nothing bad to say about Nextool so far although I would have liked to have the key chain ring on the Mini Sailor scissor one. I personally actually like the tools on the inside because they don't snag in your pocket and don't rub holes. The scissors are even stronger and better on the Roxon compared to the Mini Sailor. On the other hand the Mini Sailor scissors version still has great scissors and has a small plier and the plier version has a small scissor. But the Roxon has the bitset I carry in my bag (tool pouch) just in case and they are good for small tasks. I carry them in my pocket organizer and can switch between them depending on where I'm going and what I'm doing.

Tone Hammer sounds much warmer and saturates with a very natural and smooth character, although it is pricier than both.

    Great review, John. The Rambler is great. I use a discontinued model called the Vagabond which adds 2 extra tools to the Rambler. If I was going to buy something currently available, I'd go Rambler or Midnite Manager (adds pen and flashlight to Rambler). Or a Jetsetter for travel. I believe Leatherman discontinued the Style and Squirt because the warranty was eating them alive on those scissor springs that kept breaking. That's enough for me to stay away. I like the MiniSailor Lite for travel. One Nextool you don't show is the Mini Flagship. It's awesome. Probably the best pliers based multitool on the market that's smaller than the PowerPint. The PowerPint is great. I added a two 10x5x2mm magnets at the end to keep it closed. It also keeps the bits locked in. The magnets don't move when I open and close the tool. One other tool of a similar size and weight to the SOG you might consider is the Roxon KS2 Elite (incredible scissors, saw, D2 blade, in line awl, in line Phillips, all locking tools, one handed tools, 4mm bit kit). It complements the PowerPint well (pliers, file, bit driver). Finally, don't sleep on the LeverGear Edge XT pry bar. It has a retractable exacto blade, as well as a magnetic bit holder, a couple of built in screwdrivers, a box tape ripper notch, and wire stripper. Very small and light - easy to carry on a keychain. Question: How do the scissors on the E1 compare to the MiniSailor Scissors - which do you like better?

      Thanks for the comment and great suggestions. I did try the Roxon KS2E to compare with the Nextool E1. Ended up returning the Roxon just due to weight. But I really liked it, otherwise. The E1 scissors are the same as the Mini Sailor Scissor, as far as I can tell. Thanks for the suggestion of the LeverGear Edge XT - looks pretty cool!

    Try this EQ for Sony XM4. 400 = 0 1k. = +2 2.5k = +5 6.3k = +5 16k. = +7 Clear Bass. = +3 or +4. Try this out. It will change your earbuds right away.

      Hi, I recently picked up the Sennheiser MKH50. I use it for video conferencing (totally overkill!) as well as youtube for an overhead boom. And I use an Austrian Audio OC18 for voiceover / music stuff.

    So u cant use Tomtoc Aviator T33 3.5L as a waist-bag ? Thanks!

      The strap is too big for most people to use this as a waist / hip pack. I certainly couldn't, and it's not close.

    Just curious but does the regular ROG Ally charger fit in the bag too? I know you mentioned charging it fits a charging cable but I was wondering if the regular brick that comes with the Ally would fit.

    • @JohnScottB
      @JohnScottB 24 дні тому

      Yep it will fit 100%, there's plenty of room depthwise for quite a lot of other stuff.

      @@JohnScottB Thanks! I will be sure to use your link if I wind up ordering it. I've been going back and forth between different slings or going with the backpack. Looks like this might also be useful for my RX100 and a small pair of binoculars on hikes. I had a Tom Bihn side effect for that but it was a little cramped.

    Great video! Are there any additional preamps you’d consider for these kind of tones in 2024? I’ve been using a Rusty Box for about 15 years and still love it, but I’m keen to explore other tones.

      Good question, if I could do this again I'd want to check out the Ampeg SCR-DI, the Mesa Subway+, maybe the Darkglass Alpha Omega. I'm sure there are others but once I switched to digital I've been using amp/cab sims in my Line6 Helix with some overdrive pedals in front to give that bit of grit (my current favorite is the Damnation Audio MBD2).

    M88 is a good choice for micing up dirty sounding bass cabs, getting a great Ampeg/Bassman grind type tone. I really like the M201 on clean electric guitar tones, and also steel-string and flamenco guitar. While I think the M201 is suprisingly good for voiceover, and even singing, I do think the SM7B wins there. Electrovoice RE-20 can give it a run for it's money, when you want clean articulate, natural sounding spoken word or singing - without added low-end warmth. A good example is the From the Basement sessions where Nigel Godrich had it on Thom Yorke's voice for the Radiohead and solo sessions. Sennheiser 441 is a great vocal dynamic too. A good example being the Bunker sessions with Big Thief.

    I have the bose ultras myself and regret buying them for how much i hate them after using them, sounds is ok not great (for price) anc is decent, charging them in the case can be such a hit or miss proposition, if you don’t have them site perfectly in the case they never charge. If I had a penny for every occasion when is fully charged and the other one is at 10% or dead. The app has always been horrible, can’t they come up with something better than this? Again, for the money this is bad, they should support multi access, i have been a long time Bose fan but these last two products really suck and as much as I hate the apple air max design (just downright weird design) moving from device to device and anc is outstanding, they are now my go to headset when WFH. Multi point access is a big deal for me but it always seems to be hit or miss lately
