I had great success with a real long 3/8” drill bit and left the headers on. I drilled a bunch of holes around the perimeter and then used a long chisel to persuade both of those damn honeycombs out. It took about an hour to get them both out. I did take the rear wheel off to get a better angle.
That awesome! If I was gonna do this again, I would just have the area the cat is in cut out and weld a replacement pipe there. But good tip there!
@@MIKESBUILDZ whoa dude! My method was effective and only took an hour. No welding… and I was a pipe welder back in the day.
Cool. I wish I did it your way instead lol 😆
Brother that's crazy.... as I was watching I saw the Nutty Club building and was like that HAS to be Winnipeg!
I grew up there and now live in FL and race in WERA, PanAm, and ASRA/CCS.
Just picked up a 2020 to retire my 05 636.
Much love man, made me really happy watching this.
Ride safe!
Let’s goooo! It’s good ol pegcity lol. I’m in EK. That’s super cool. I sold this 2020 to buy a 2010 ZX6R to rebuild lol. Be sure to check out my rebuilds on my channel. You might like it. Thank you brother. Stay safe out there champ 🫡
Thank you for sharing. I had 2 of the middle header pipe bolts stuck. And your idea of using the extra long extensions with the swivel head made it enough for me to get them loose. The joy of finally getting a stubborn bolt loose is always nice.
Glad you found it helpful! I know the feeling lol 😆. Subscribe if you haven’t already, got lots of moto contents coming to the channel.
Use a 1/2 long concrete drill bit and it makes it easy and had it done in a hour.
Possibly, as you see I went a different route that took way longer. Live and learn.
Lol, yes - 10 years later !
You definitely have more patience than I would have.
It looked like you were having the fight of your life getting the cat ripped out !
Good for you, though - that is a lot of work to go through.
Winnipeg winters are pretty harsh - so it is a good thing you have a nice heated garage to work on the bike.
Also - do you find the cops are paying (too much) attention to you now with the loud exhaust that breathes fire ? :-)
It was definitely a tough one lol. I wouldn’t did it again, lesson learnt. Oh my garage isn’t heated lol, I wish it was. I just have a small heater and wear a heated jacket when I work in there. I also haven’t been pulled over on my bike, hopefully that doesn’t change lol ✌🏽
....and that's why I got a full exhaust system...... to much labor. 😆
Haha not gonna lie the thought did cross my mind halfway through this, but the cost for a full system on a 600 and the power gains to money ratio didn’t sit well with me. Gonna chuck this up to a honest days work lol. Don’t think I’d like to do it again tho. Cheers 🍻.
I put arrow header and link on mine with Akro end can. Flashed and Now runs 124 at the rear. Smoother, much more torque low down and more HP at the top not just dying off.
0-100 mph in under 6 now. 1/4 mile mid to very low 10s.
@@bradthepit oh that sounds like a good combo! 124 to the wheel is a good number, one of the highest I’ve heard for the ZX6R. What else do you have done to achieve that?
@@MIKESBUILDZ just racing air filter, runs a tad rich tbh on AFR. Before Decat and flash was 117, so In total 7 hp increase
@@bradthepit impressive numbers. I’ve got a new bike build coming to the channel. Should be a good one.
I know you mentioned sending off the ECU to be flashed later. But after the test ride, do you think it's still necessary? I am thinking of changing mine too during winter to be ready for the next season.
I’ve been riding it and honestly I haven’t noticed any negative effects. It’s all smiles lol. She pulls harder down low, my tires keep spinning, I can only imagine how much better it’ll be when it’s tuned. I honestly believe anyone who does this should get it tuned at some point, just to make sure the bike is running smoothly and gaining the maximum power possible from de-catting it. You should, we can send our ECU at the same time, I’ve got 4 other guys down to do it.
@@MIKESBUILDZ You wont notice the difference at all specially for street riding purpose only, most guys get ecu flashed on their track bikes as they constantly on the high range of RPM and and always on the gas from there you will see the benefit of having it tuned for more gains of power and torque.
@@arjeljohnn2473 I did think about that, but I think the main reason why I’ll do it is just to make sure the bikes running properly and everything else is a bonus lol
@@MIKESBUILDZwhat about fuel economy and top end power have ether decreased
Didn’t care for fuel economy. Didn’t notice a difference. Bikes been sold tho.
I absolutely love that red and black colorway on that bike. Do you know if that design was available only in Canada? Here in the states for 2020 I think they offered a white and grey version, and an orange color if im not mistaken. I know my bike has the Pearl Nightshade Teal and Metallic Spark Black combo only available for 2021 across a range of Kawasakis bikes.
I did too. It was Custom paint scheme on aftermarket fairings. Don’t see lots of them around.
sick paint job
Thank you 😊. Sadly I sold her a couple months ago. Check out my other builds if you haven’t already. Gonna be good!
@@MIKESBUILDZ will do
You might have already mentioned this, so I apologize if you already answered this; but does this work on the 2024 model?
Yeah it does. Pretty much the same bike. Nothings changed.
Bro I have a 2014 zx6r 636 also had it D catted with a GR Moto slip on dose sound nice but no flames did you also tune your bike as I’m not sure what’s going on with mine
If you completely decatted it you should get flakes. I did not have a tune on mine. What condition is your filter in? If it’s heavily restricted, you won’t get flames. Bike needs enough air & fuel, the leftover is what combust in the exhaust causing flames & pops.
Is there any difference between a de-cat exhaust system and a full exhaust system? Which one would you recommend
Only difference may be pipe diameter and flow design, but essentially achieve the same result. One just cost a lot more than the other.
is the sound any louder/better with the cat deleted? The m4 gp slip on already is loud as is. But a full system on a zx6r was 1000$ vs 400$ for slip on so I might try to delte cat myself.
Sounds a bit louder and better for sure. I’ve sold that bike. Check out my new ZX6R rebuild. I’ve decatted the exhaust and will be fitting a different exhaust to it so the sound would be awesome.
Hiya Mike👋🏿, i bought & had fitted a full leo-Vince exhaust system to my 18 Ninja 400....for more improvements do i need to take the cat out or are cat's only located in original systems or are they in all exhaust systems original & aftermarket? Cheers from Sydney Australia 🦘
Hey! So usually aftermarket systems have no cat in them. That is something you’d be able to confirm by looking at the header. With a full system you should be getting a flash to get the fill potential of that modification.
did you get a check engine light after cat delete?
No check engine light. Gotta leave the o2 sensor connected
Did you leave the o2 sensor hooked up? Or did you have to buy an eliminator?
Hey! I left the o2 sensor in place. I plan on tuning this bike very soon via Woolish so it’ll be going soon.
So I contemplate doing this to my 19 zx6r , i want the flames i already have a sc project without the air box itll pop a little flame but if i take out the cats without a tune or power commander will i get the same flame?
Same bike. You will definitely get the same results. Mine is not tuned and has no power commander.
lol bro what way do the header gaskets go on , i took the headers off and threw my hand up with the headers to hold them like a trophy and them bitches flew away and idk which way they go back on 😂
They go on either way. Not specific orientation.
@@MIKESBUILDZ appreciate you bro
🫡
bruh thats a nice bike D:
Thank you! Check out my ZX10R build. It’s turning out great!
Did you get any check engine light or anything else after plugging o2 sensor back in ??
No check engine light. If you don’t connect the o2 sensor, you’ll get one.
What were the torque specs on the header bolts?
59 ft/lbs
Will this work on the new 2024 zx6r?
Yes. It’s practically the same bike underneath the fairings.
Did you get any kind of warning lights or anything after doing this?
No warning lights. I do have a servo buddy installed since I removed the stock exhaust for the M4 slip on.
@MIKE’S BUILDZ Thanks!
@@tannert8361 you’re welcome. Cheers!
Why was it at auction ? Was it crashed ?
This wasn’t crashed. It was vandalized.
How much louder is it
I won’t say it’s a whole lot. But you can definitely hear it more, it’s also pops more which I like.
How many pounds you took off?
Everything in the pipe. I didn’t weigh it.
I'm not knocking it but you can just get a new titanium full system and you don't have to fuck with any of this. Just take it off and put the new one on. Keep the cat in case you wanna sell or trade it in. Dealers won't take it without a cat.
Sure, I can provide you with my shipping address if you want to send me a full titanium exhaust system. Let me know 👍🏽
Is it possible to de cat without removing the header, like a really long flat head and just hammer around the edges ?
I’d say no. You could end up with more damage that way. It’s a lot of work and I would not recommend doing it attached to the bike.
