    Great video. To anyone watching this vid now, consider using a drill with a long, metal bit. We used about a 5" bit for the first piece of the cat and a 12" 3/8 bit for the second one. Still takes a while and some elbow grease but not too bad, and I'm sure it stresses the bike a lot less than a hammer and chisel/pry bar. Also, you will need a powered plug-in drill. We tried a battery powered one and it was nowhere near strong enough.

    • @PistonSlap
      @PistonSlap  6 років тому +2

      Paul thanks for that info. I'm going to pin your comment for everyone. How much were the drill bits?

    • @Paul-hc3ff
      @Paul-hc3ff 6 років тому +2

      Piston Slap they are about $14 each. We already had the shorter one so if you didn't have any drill bits you could just get the 12" and that would probably do the trick. It might be a little awkward for the first one since it's not that deep in the pipe, but it'd work and you'd save $14

    When removing the cat it is recommended to get a tune that gives the bike a little more fuel than with the cat, due to the loss of back pressure. Without the back pressure, your bike is allowing way more air into the bike, since the air moves faster out of the exhaust. Which means the bike will be running lean. No, it won't immediately kill your bike. It won't kill you bike in 10,000 miles. But it does do some extra wear to the engine, as well as make the bike run slightly warmer

    • @PistonSlap
      @PistonSlap  6 років тому +1

      Flushhed yep. It is almost like having a race header. Just a little smaller pipe and stuff. I used the tune on graves motorsports site. The I did a plug reading from the original plugs and the color is almost spot on.

    I am amazed all the unwanted stuff that comes on bikes these days. You describes the process very well. Even I could do it. I watched the whole thing and I don't even own a ZX6R. What the heck does that servo operate. Some type of exhaust vane?

    • @PistonSlap
      @PistonSlap  8 років тому +1

      The servo controls a valve in the rear part of the exhaust. I'm not sure if it's like the corvette and they use it to keep the bike quite untill you get hard on the throttle and high up in the rpm. or if it's for low end power to build a little back pressure. I didn't notice a lack in power at the bottom end when I changed everything so I going with a sound control device of some sort.

    EXCELLENT VIDEO, AS HE STATED, STONGLY RECOMMEND TAKING THE HEADER OFF, THIS IS A VERY DUSTY AND DIRTY JOB. I DID MINE OFF THE BIKE AND IT WAS A PITA. IT SEPERATED FROM THE HEADER FINE BUT THE HARDEST PART WAS BREAKING UP THE LARGE PIECES INTO SMALL PIECES TO COME OUT THE COLLECTOR OF THE HEADER.
    #1 REASON IS YOU WILL BANG THE HELL OUT OF THE CORE INSIDE THE HEADER AND THE HEADER IS NOT SUPPORTED ANY WHERE ELSE ON THE BIKE EXCEPT THE EXHAUST STUDS. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BANG ON THE HEADER WHILE ON THE MOTOR, YOU COULD EASILY CRACK YOUR HEAD!!! SINCE YOUR APPYING A DIRECTIONAL LOAD TO THE STUD. STUDS ARE STEEL , HEAD IS CAST.

    • @PistonSlap
      @PistonSlap  4 роки тому

      Piston Slap what do you mean by performance ? Do u mean more horse power or more louder? And sorry for the annoying questions

    • @PistonSlap
      @PistonSlap  4 роки тому +2

      @@ray_d8536 No, ask away on questions. Louder is not always faster/more powerful. What I mean is that that catalytic converter or "cat" as most people will call it will restrict the flow of exhaust a little. For instance, you may be wearing a face mask due to the current situation. While it is a little restrictive during normal breathing say you started running for your life with that mask on. It would be a lot more restrictive due to the amount of air you need to breathe. The same idea applies to the "cat" in your motorcycle. During normal riding, you would never notice a thing, but during a full wide open pull you could pick up a tiny bit more power because the engine is able to get the exhaust out easier. You may not feel it but could see it on a dyno. The engine is louder, is a side effect of the "cat" being removed because it acts as a muffler so to speak in the same instance.

    I have the same bike. I’ve seen the servo on my bike BUT I bought the bike with a shorty exhaust so I’m not even sure if the servo is still hooked up. Also I’m sure my cats are still in. Should I leave the bike how it is until I can get the ecu flashed or could I go ahead and remove all that stuff and flash the ecu about a week or 2 from today?

    • @PistonSlap
      @PistonSlap  5 років тому

      If you look near your right foot peg there would be two cables attached to the exhaust if it was hooked up. Most guys just remove the cables and leave the servo plugged in to prevent a check engine light. Removing the cat will not set a check engine light. Im not sure of the bike you have as far as what country your in. The euro models cam with a o2 sensor. If that is your case it might trip a light for that. It would not hurt it to run with the check engine light on for a couple weeks if ypu decided to unplug the servo box.

    I have a question please and I hope you would help.
    I have a 2016 Ninja1000sx, it has no servo but the back chamber and the cat are may be the same like yours.
    I've got Akra megaphones slip on on both sides but they don't sound as loud neither as deep.
    I'm thinking of removing the cat and the back chamber but I was wondering if the performance would be affected!! What about the O2 sensors, ECU, F1 and resting rpm? What is the best way to fix the above issues after I do that?
    Thanks

    • @PistonSlap
      @PistonSlap  7 років тому

      yazan talab I would jave the ECU flashed to delete the o2. by removing the cat ypu will loose a tiny bit of low end torque but the tune will make up the difference on the higher end of rpm scale. if you have access to a cutom tuner that is the best route for tuning.

    you didn't need to flash the ecu for the servo motor. fueling?...yes! but the servo motor all you need is the servo eliminator plug that prevents that. Heal Tech makes one and it's been amazing on my bike.

    • @PistonSlap
      @PistonSlap  7 років тому

      The servo would need the ECU flashed or you can buy a servo eliminator like you had said. With all the changes I had done the Fuel mapping was free from Graves Motorsports. I'm not sure what to say. The cat is part of the head pipe. I don't believe there is a mid pipe unless you buy a aftermarket header. Danmoto I belive is the manufacture. With other exhaust systems im not sure of like size or location. I wanted the muffler/slip on as close as possible.

    • @PistonSlap
      @PistonSlap  6 років тому +1

      Khoa Vo the catalytic converter is there to basicly clean up the exhaust gasses that come out of the engine. When the gasses go threw the "cat" there is a chemical reaction that takes place to make the exhaust gasses less harmful to the environment. Removing it will increase flow through the exhaust, which will increase performance. There are side effects. Yes it will be louder. You will loose a tiny bit of bottom end torque but gain more HP on the mid to top side of the power band.

    • @PistonSlap
      @PistonSlap  6 років тому

      The block off plates will reduce the popping through the exhaust on decell. There are a few ways when doing the block off plates to keep the Check engine light from turning on and setting a code. 1st is leaving the valve plugged into the harness, 2nd there might be a dohicky that plugs into the harness to mimic the valve. or Flash/programme the ECM to eliminate that code and disable the valve.
      All the valves are for is to put clean air into the exhaust to help dilute the gases for emissions. Hope that helps, if ya have any questions let me know.
