I remember when I first learned that Ozzy was no longer in the band, i was devastated and thought I would not listen to them anymore. That was until I heard them with Ronnie James Dio! They became, to this day, my favorite Black Sabbath lineup! Great request and reaction!
Out of all the guitarist i have heard. I have never heard any one a part from Tony Iommi who can do the almost perfect marriage of Metal & Blues. This song is a great example.
The next Black Sabbath album, Mob Rules, closes with a similar and equally good track, Over and Over, where Dio and Iommi excel once again. Country Girl from Mob Rules is my favourite song from Dio era Sabbath.
Tony Iommi. Legend. Literally an Iron Man. King Of Riffs. Crushes everything else into dust. This was recorded over 40 years ago and still sounds awesome.
Tony said in an interview that this solo was his favorite of all his solos. Dio years are fantastic with BS. Martin Birch's production of this album was really good. Other great Dio era songs "Sign of the Southern Cross", "I", "Heaven & Hell", & Children of of the Sea" and many others. Plus in 2007 until his death, they got back together under the band name Heaven & Hell, songs like "Bible Black" and "The Devil Cried" are great songs for guys in their 60's
There isn’t a bad song in this entire album. Dio Sabbath masterpiece. Nick ya need to dive into this album. What a year for Rock and Roll. Ozzy’s “Blizzard of Oz” came out around this same time period. (Might have been lay 79’) And of course Permanent Waves 80’
Hi Nick, I was about to make a late dinner and just a quick look at u.t notifications and saw the cover of this album with you.... Instant click ! Lol .... Boy just wait till you hear the title track + more of this album !!! However ... you have started and with a great ballad ...so ...here we go ....just about to play. Byee Jim X
When I was in high school, Paranoid was the album everyone fussed over, including me, but when I heard Heaven and Hell, Paranoid got pushed aside. Not that I disliked Sabbath with Ozzy, but Dio sang to a slower hard rock and was coherent to follow without looking to the lyrics in the liner.
Great song. Great album too. One of my all-time favorite albums and not a bad song on it. Check out the rest of it. It's fantastic. Peace, Nick and hope your throat is better soon.
This was great and very entertaining, Nick! I loved it, thanks! I'll definitely have to check out Symphony X, which sounds terrific! I'm a big fan of melodic metal, so it sounds right up my alley! This song was the last great track where Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward were all involved together. It also is a great example (as will be the next song involving thee most underrated singer of all time, Tony Martin) of how Iommi can play with anyone, and bring them to their maximum potential, even someone great like Dio.
Also checkout the Prog Metal band "Ark", the vocalist Jørn Lande sounds like Dio meets Coverdale, who has a solo band called "Jorn", which goes from Heavy Rock to Metal, and he's been part of many other bands, and has a project with "Sir" Russel Allen of Symphony X called "Lande/Allen" 🙂.
The sabbath stuff of the first album was probably the best day ever did in my opinion, particularly sleeping village warning. As far as Ron is concerned, rainbow live in Munich mistreated is probably the best example of Ronnie’s range, and Richie solos or fantastic and Cozy Powell drumming is off the charts.
This song always gets me. Tony is great of course, but Geezer and Bill are on fire on here. Dio is in a class of his own. Also hard agree on Symphony X. Amazing band.
Lex needs to hear this!!! One of the very best post Ozzy Sabbath songs no matter who was singing it, Iommi is on Jimmy Page level on this one, unreal solos, he is in my top 10 guitarists, no matter what anyone says. Great song! More Sabbath, try Valhalla from the Tony Martin era. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
Whatever you do, don't waste your time on the Martin era "Sabbath' it was " Sabbath" trying to be Bon Jovi and the like, in other words, pandering & piss weak, & u will never get over the crushing DISAPPOINTMENT.
@@mickblack3291 I think your completely wrong. Because Martin era songs sound nothing like Bon Jovi what so ever. Tony Martin is one of the most underrated male vocalists.
Maybe my favorite or second favorite Sabbath song without Ozzy. Iommi's playing in this sounds different to me. Usually he had a very thick deep sound and riff based. But in this one it's lighter more free flowing. It almost sounds like Alex Lifeson's style of playing. I wonder if he used a different guitar or something. So if you haven't ever heard the Heaven and Hell song definitely check it out. It's easily their most famous song without Ozzy.
By far the best bs album imo…this is a goosebump song…the whole band is on point…geezers bass drives the song , dio is as usual amazing, TI ‘s best worked solo…OMFG…from age 10 I can’t stop coming back to this…it has shaped my musical taste and is a benchmark that I compare others to. This is the lineup that shone on their merit…not gimmicks. Rip RJD…vocal god.
BOC has a song called the siege and investiture of Baron Von Frankenstein with a guest singer, l don't know his name but he is the closest thing to RJD that I've ever heard,u should check it out
I think with Ronnie coming from Rainbow, he took that influence of expression and improvisation with him to Black Sabbath and got the best out of Tony Iommi. What you need is Rainbow Live in Munich - Mistreated or Catch the Rainbow......
You guys should start doing some more songs off of this album. What a fantastic album that just one through eight are all fantastic songs. Get Alexis on here with you and review Children of the sea or Neon Nights or Heaven and Hell...etc
I'd be willing to bet that the synth backing the solo at the end has nothing to do with Zeppelin, and has everything to do with the live version of Cath the Rainbow that Rainbow did on stage when Dio was with them. I'm sure the suggestion to put that under the solo probably came from him, and I'm sure that's where he got the idea. I'm sure the note selection was coincidental and was based on the key of the solo by offstage keyboardist Geoff Nichols.
The only time I liked Black Sabbath was when Dio sang for them. Great song choice, btw. I saw the Mob Rules tour and this was one of if not the worst concert I've been to. The opening band, The Outlaws blew them away. Funny, the only other concert that I did not enjoy was Ozzy. No prejudice, I did scrape up the money for the gas and tickets. A hard thing to do at the time. I still love the two studio albums of Black Sabbath with Dio. I agree with your comments on the musicians!
I have always preferred Tony Iommi playing over Blackmore. Because i like what a player sound like more than technical ability. Stevie Ray Van is technically great. But i don’t like the sound he makes.
ITS 🤘....NOT ......🤟 I like how you caught the Stsirway to Heaven like ending. At first it sounded familiar then i got it. Takes a great ear to identify these things. 🎸 10:57
Good song, but not my favourite on this album. Neon Knight and Heaven and hell ... probably the most liked, I would guess. I loved when I once saw Dream Theater cover Heaven and Hell, great music .... and James ??? well, he is no Ronny 😂
Black Sabbath & their Record company are famous for blocking videos on UA-cam if you don't pause. I pause and I always rewind. I heard the full song and my pause was timed very good for hearing it the first time.
@@NicknLex they are famous for blocking. That just happened to be an epic part of the vocals. Just my opinion, you barley did a rewind of about 2 seconds. I wish you had taken it back a little to get the full feel. Glad you are liking Sabbath with Dio. You have one heck of a journey ahead of you if this is your first reaction.take care, buddy.
Again, you have this album and the next one; "Mob Rules" 🙂 . . . THIS album was shockingly great, when I was _just_ discovering Ronnie James Dio with 𝕽𝖆𝖎𝖓𝖇𝖔𝖜, and went out and bought the Lp. The WHOLE album is solid, the title-track put them back on the map when most were giving-up on Sabbath losing Ozzy (but he also gaining fans from his Solo album debut). I'd say Iommi was getting to stretch his guitar style, his tone was a bit "brighter" as well. Its too bad Bill Ward thought Ozzy WAS "Sabbath", so he left after the completion of the album (and dealing with his addictions), so "ELO's" Bev Bevan took over for the tour. Mob Rules is excellent as well, the closer ("Over and Over") is also a HIGHLY emotional Blues/Metal track, and Tony Iommi shines and makes his SG cry in pain even more! 2 of my favorite Dio albums (even more-so than his solo Band). I thought Dio and Sabbath created some awesome music together. There is heavier material on those 2 albums Nick, coming soon I hope! - Rest in Peace 𝕯𝖎𝕺, I'm glad I at-least saw him with his own band for a few tours \m/.
When Rob Halford was asked. who he thought was the greatest ever Rock/ Metal vocalist. Rob Halford said Ronnie James Dio.
I remember when I first learned that Ozzy was no longer in the band, i was devastated and thought I would not listen to them anymore. That was until I heard them with Ronnie James Dio! They became, to this day, my favorite Black Sabbath lineup! Great request and reaction!

Jimmy Page? 😳
Lol. Tony channeling his inner Jimmy Page in the solo...fuckin awesome!
The next Black Sabbath album, Mob Rules, closes with a similar and equally good track, Over and Over, where Dio and Iommi excel once again. Country Girl from Mob Rules is my favourite song from Dio era Sabbath.
Haha, just wrote the same thing about "Over and Over"! :D
Country Girl is the first song I learned on bass...learned it when Mob Rules first came out.
Iommi goes crazy on Over and Over.
My favourite Ronnie James Dio song is “Sign of Southern Cross”
Tony Iommi. Legend. Literally an Iron Man. King Of Riffs. Crushes everything else into dust. This was recorded over 40 years ago and still sounds awesome.
Truth.
This whole album is amazing! This was my introduction to Black Sabbath when I was 11 years old.
I might have been 1 when this Al I’m came out. Swing that I was born in April 79.
The first Black Sabbath Album. That i ever heard from start to end was Vol 4.
Comes in like Hell and fades out like Heaven. A brilliant closing song for a legendary album.
Brilliant song...Tony Iommi said this is his favourite solo....who am I to argue!!
That riff, those vocals, that solo!
Tony said in an interview that this solo was his favorite of all his solos. Dio years are fantastic with BS. Martin Birch's production of this album was really good. I agree with all of that! Well said!
You picked out quite a few bangers from the Dio era of sabbath.
One of the most underrated guitar solos. Gives almost Santana vibes. Love it.
What a voice and what a solo - intense, haunting lyrics, hard driving song. Thanks for reacting to this. Hope your voice gets better!

Tony Iommi is a guitar God, no doubt.
This was an amazing Tour ! It was also known as the "Black and Blue" Tour. " Blue Oyster Cult" toured with them.
Yes I was at that tour!
The bass and drums make this even better. 🎸
I've known this song for years and you made me realize that it's "word" and not "world" lmao
"HEAVEN & HELL" Disco escencial no sólo para los amantes del metal, sino de la música en general! IOMMI/DIO demasiado grandes!! 🤘🇦🇷
I love this song ❤
Adoro essa musica ! A mistura perfeita entre blues e metal, uma das mais tristes junto com She´s gone, Solitude e Over and over.

This is , Tony Iommi's " comfortably Numb " . It is not open for dispute or negotiations..

You need to hear Lilliac they are a band of siblings that do some Dio covers, The lead singer and the entire band love RJD.
