I can't help but wonder if Larys is at least partially inspired by Talleyrand. Talleyrand was a French noble afflicted with a club foot and was not the eldest son. As a noble who could not serve in the military, he was sent to the church, but his leanings were less religious. He even visited Voltaire repeatedly. When the French Revolution arose, he left the church, stepped away from the nobility, and rose in the French Republic. His political maneuvering allowed him to survive the terror. He was involved in Napoleon's rise to power. Before others in the French government, he stepped away to England before Napolean's fall and managed to play a prominent role in the restoration of the French royalty. He was a master manipulator who always managed to be on the winning side. Not bad for a lesser son with a club foot.
Can we just give a huge shoutout to Lyonel Strong though, the best hand of the king we've ever seen and hands down the one person I knew we could trust when this story started. Reminds me of a political savy Ned Stark
Political savy Ned Stark!! Spot on lol Ned was so tone deaf😂
First time we saw him try to talk it was Otto Hightower trying to speak over him because he knew he would spit nothing but facts and Otto hates that shit
@@drizzy3980 well. He was a northerner who never really dealt with politics. He even says things were easier in the north lil
Lol clubfoot has a fetish for ordinary feet. Lol he actually masterbates to them
Larys has character similarities to Shakespeare’s Richard III : with a twisted body, plotting dissension at court and saying “Seem the smiling FLOWER but be the serpent under it”.
It’s actually, “Look the innocent flower but be the serpent under it.” It’s a line from Macbeth spoken by Lady Macbeth. I have it tattooed on my arm.
Also extremly similar to a man called Talleyrand, minister for foreign affairs under Napoleon AND for the King who followed him. Quite impressively for a noble man at the time, he managed to survive the Revolution, the Directoire, the Empire and died after the return of the monarchy and held positions of power during all those regimes. Besides his political acumen, he used his wit to overcome the challenges he faced, one of which was the infirmity he was born with: a clubfoot
I like how the scene where he sits down with the women (his 1st scene I think) really makes the audience feel sympathetic towards him….only to slowly reveal that this man isn’t some pitiful character we sympathize with but a very complex and disturbed man capable of horrifying actions!!! Very good casting choice as well the actor portrays him very well!!!!
Just gonna hang out here, eat cookies, take notes, and see if anybody takes their slippers off.
@@sweetpotatofries99 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@sweetpotatofries99 Yea boy foot fetish all the way! Jokes aside I was thinking (I have not read Fire & Blood except for certain little story moments so hopefully I do not spoil anything accidentally) obviously there is some control & dominance going on (I could be way off) but it seems like the more he (Larys) entraps the queen into his little desires in exchange for info act the more comfortable & brave he’s becoming! I feel like this may build up to the point that he will sexually assault someone (he’s too smart for an outright attack on the queen) but maybe a random servant or something idk! I’m really curious to see what his next moves will be since the only 2 characters from House of the Dragon (so far) that give off little finger/Lord Varys type vibes are obviously Otto Hightower & Larys! The latter being very unpredictable & still unreadable in ways but I guess we’ll have to wait till season 2!
@@brandonsalisbury7182
It's absolutely a control thing with him. Anytime he could shake a little coin at a servant or sex worker and say hey sweetness, ever have your toes sucked by a lord?
He's horrible. And he's also adorable. Just a lil baby guy. Matthew Needham's use of body language is incredible. The way he changes position when Alicent walks in. From regular dude to a teenage girl seeing a boy she likes.
All I'm saying is that my feet would never hurt again and we'd both be happy and smelling of cocoa butter.
You're correct that his first scene hit me right in the empathy, though the book had shown him to be far from helpless. But I failed to change this perspective as he kept piling on the complexity and relatability in subsequent scenes, managing to be so charming and pretty that I wildly desired him despite his evil deeds. Truly an impressive performance.
I wanna hate Larys for being responsible for taking out my boii, but Larys is such an interesting character that i actually wanna see more of his antics in the show 🥺
Ohh and you definitely will ☺️ he is like the Varys x Littlefinger x Bloodraven of HOTD
Damn y’all really giving him too much credit so far
Besides the family murder he hasn’t done much but he does carry that “shiesty little shit “ vibe well
@@TeamBOBBYEE I've read the books.....
@@TeamBOBBYEE he also directly inflamed the tension between Rhaenyra and Alicent by revealing the moon tea. Which was done on purpose. And killing your family is a hell of a flex.
I thought you said Larys took out your boil but then realized you misspelled boy on purpose.
And ironically his ambition would lead to the destruction of his house, he wanted power, even if that means killing his father and brother, but the Dance of Dragons begins, he lose Harrenhal and later lose his head.
thanks for spoiling
@@jak_shoI mean the book has been out for how long now?
@jak_sho why would you watch this if you didn't want to hear spoilers?
Larys does great at using his clubfoot to appear as less of a threat.
Unlike the show where Petyr Baelish is blatantly obviously scheming and cocky, the books have him come off very unassuming and just happy to have a position despite being from one of the weakest families. Lowborn basically.
He's callous and fierce like Littlefinger, but he also has the subtlety and disarmingly passive appearance that Varys had. He's a monster who burned his (seemingly loving) family and he's also baby. I also love that it isn't about Alicent's feet. That's just a perk. It's about her discomfort. I don't know if she's clocked the fact that he could just flash a little coin at a servant or sex worker and say hey baby, ever had your toes sucked by a Lord? He's awful and I love him.
When the queen said to Larys "in all of Kings Landing, is there no one to take my side" that look she gave him was the go ahead for Larys to commit murder so Otto could be hand of the king again.
this is so unserious
She gave no such go ahead. Larys did that all on his own.
Before there was Larys Strong there was Tyanna of the Tower under Maegor the Cruel. They are stealing credit as the original badass schemer/mistress of whispers/spider. She is the original spider.
Hope for the Witch Queen of Harrenhal in s2.
Can’t believe Mikey Day from SNL is killing it playing Larys, yo. Yo
This is perfect timing. I was just getting interested to know more about larys the clubfoot
Ohh The schemer...
you guys need to advise the writers of the show, since Rhaenyra is not as perverted as the books says, they're making her some sort of heroine, when the most interesting part of game of thrones is the grayness of it's characters, or the fact that when they are morally determined they usually dies very rapidly
The brilliance of G.R.R Martin in a Dance of Dragons is how it’s told by different people.
Martin has said the Maesters and Mushroom depiction are not 100% accurate.
Do doing House of Dragons allows for flexible story telling. Changes that don’t ruin it if it veers off from the book. One example is Larys. The show depiction features one who covers his tracks. So, the historians may not know his full roll.
The "bastard" thing gets on my nerves and I think Allicent is slow or so sexist she can't think straight. I don't understand what she doesn't understand that it's Rhaenyra who is the Targaryen. So it doesn't matter if her kids are bastards, they're still Targaryens and dragon riders. When she said it was a wonder that their eggs hatched at all I literally felt my iq drop. She really just is Queen Karen. She's mad that Rhaenyra gets a different set of rules and she wants to destroy her life because she's jealous. Rhaenyra gets to sleep with young hot men in she has to sleep with old rotting viserys. Rhaenyra can sleep around and it's fine but Allicent would be put to death brutally if she cheated on Viserys.
Yeah sorry but Rhae can't don't any of that...she is breaking laws. Period. She isn't allowed to, she's just doing it. Royals can't cheat and have bastards even more so than everyone else
It does matter tho cuz the realm will kill them all for it cuz the realm is sexist and it's high treason for rhaenyra to have hazards let alone trying to put them on the throne
Bastards
But yea the Dragon thing is stupid they are half targaryens despite the rules
Re: no hot guys for Alicent, there's always gals being pals
Ah yes, we will see a lot of him in HotD. Great Character.
Based on episode 6.
He's definitely a psychopath
Nahhh he just knows how to play the game of thrones he done nothing Tywin never did
He seems to be enjoying though...and he wasn't asked to do what he did.
@@DatBoiChris420 killing father and brother? Tywin and most GOT characters are all about family and name. This dude killed them for nothing.
@@DatBoiChris420it's psychopathic. Burning your own family.. tywin in the books was also one....
Maybe Larys just happens to be friends with Melos, or maybe he's Melos's boss or something.
LAR-Riss like Var-iss , my dude
Also when Rhaenyra was banging Criston Crusty it seemed as though someone was watching them. People keep forgetting that. And Varys did not call his informants little mice! He called them his little birds! so get it right.
She probably took her shoes off and he couldn't miss that.
Varys called them his little birds
The realms most ardent supporter of peace, the true Queens confidant.
A man must play with what he has.
25:23 I thought you were gonna give it a 7/10
We have to see if Larys and Alysanne Rivers do know each other and if they really are related
They assassinated his character to just make his reasons for his actions for some sexual domination. It's so horrible and they could've make him more mysterious and interesting.
Nah u just don't understand complex storytelling his foot fetish is more than just that it is to make him feel powerful over Alicent he enjoys making people feel powerless and his foot fetish is also tied to his own destroyed clubfoot he is masturbating to the foot of a queen
Because the maesters work for the hightowers that is how she get to know about the freaking tea
House strong is pretty cool/epic lore
Little birds. Not little mice
Be originally called them his little nice in essos
What a rare occurrence a woman master of whispers ... hahaha pretty much Alexander's the great mother witch with the snake and all, what a record in the garden of eden they also caused the fall because of their dealing with a snake... probably inspired the whole thing
Am i alone in this or is this guy low key a smash? 👀
He is most definitely a greenseer.
Personally i always found the first meeting between larys and the queen to be a bit brutish an on the nose. But then again the queen did not need much of a push
You are wrong about Orel, you are confusing him with Varyamir Six Skins.
I knew I wasn't the only one that caught that!
Yes, Varamyr Sixskins was the most powerful warg of all. He had multiple animals and warged a woman.😳
didn't one of maegor's wife serve as master of whisperers during his reign. yep tyanna of the towers.
Man, that pronunciation is rough. Kinda takes all the mystique calling him Larry.
Welcome to Larry's: if you wanna knows, you gotta shows the toes.
enigmatic? come on man
I believe Alyson Rivers is Melisandre
Lmfao no she's not
Mellsandra is most like a teenager in Asshai learning all the magical shit
@@DatBoiChris420 uhhhh Melisandre would not be a teenager. She’s believed to be 400. So she would be 200 or so years in 173 ac… not saying I believe the OP, your wrong about her being a teenager. She’s used magic to stay alive…
all whispers have horrible ending
These type of characters became cornier and cornier and so predictable.
It made the main character seems dumb af by entertaining such person.
Like can we stop make comparisons from book to TV? It's redundant at this point. We all know there is a major gap. Who gives a fuck??
Evidently you do. smh. . .
Because ASOIAF fans/ world of ice and fire series’ are avid fans. We love discussing it, theorizing, and evaluating… discussing the differences is an interesting topic… and can actually help some people who’ve only ever seen the shows.
