to be honest its amazing to see you be uncomfy you are Infront of the camera as weird as that sounds, it shows you're a real and genuine person so thanks for stepping out of your comfort zone! Also im a huge YA reader so im excited to see you're new vids
i LOVE watching you and benji, and i've been waiting for who knows how long for you to finally talk about books!!! i'm also a huge reader! would love to share book recommendations some time! :)
Hi Chris. A really enjoyable first episode. I love Madeline Miller too. Both “Song of Achilles” & “Circe” are two of my favourites books. I also agree that “House on the Cerulean Sea” was such a heartwarming book. I believe TJ Klune is going to do a further book with these characters. I’m waiting to read “Under the Whispering Door”, but it doesn’t come out in paperback in the UK until next year. I got a friend a copy of the “7 Husband’s of Evelyn Hugo”, and now wishing I got myself a a copy too. I have Hanya Yanagihara’s “A Little Life”, Ocean Vuong’s “On Earth We Are Briefly Gorgeous” and Bethan Roberts “My Policeman” on my next books to read. If you like fantasy/magical realism I would recommend “The Night Circus” and “The Starless Sea” by Erin Morgenstern. She is a really good writer. I’m looking forward to hearing your other book reviews. With Benji covering plants and you doing books you guys have got my passions covered. 📚 🪴
I’ve never been into reading much, mostly just biopics of scientists lol. But the way you talk about them so excited is so contagious. I think you’re definitely meant to be a booktuber
Great recommendations. I agree with you that The Song of Achilles is a most beautiful book, the writing, the story, the context… it’s all close to perfect.
Since you're a pirate-stan, you'll love One Piece on Netflix. I never followed the manga and yet I very much enjoyed that show. Mackenyu as Zoro, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Steven Ward as Mihawk are particularly great casting choice. Would love to hear your thoughts about it.
i’ve seen a few episodes and i am really enjoying it! i’ve never seen any of the anime but the live action is pretty cool! definitely giving the pirate fantasy i enjoy
I really liked the vibe of this video it was super nice. One book that I would recommend to you would be educated, it’s a true story about a girl growing up without any schooling, and her journey to getting a phd from Cambridge. It’s one of my favorite books and is a really powerful story.
Song of Achilles was one of my favorite books from last year, I definitely agree with your 5 star rating!! I also have 7 husbands of evelyn hugo for my book to read next :) great first video chris!!
Omg I love Madeline Miller! The way she writes is like walking down a field of flowers. Every word on her pages are like the beautiful smell and colours of all these flowers, and the earth beneath. She wraps you around with her words and her analogies are so beautiful and fitting. One of my favorite quotes from Circe: "I touched the thought like a bruise, testing its ache" it's just beautiful.
Chris, congrats on your debut on booktok, haha. About what you said about pirates, same, and I would love recommendations on great books with pirates if you have some! Great job with your first video :)
I really admire you and Benji so much and books and plants are my favorites ever! I love watching Benji’s videos and I am so happy that we’re gonna get book contents from you!! Yey! You should read Heartstopper. It’s a graphic novel, but I feel like you’re gonna enjoy it. It was one of my favorite reads last year.
if you loved the seven husbands of evelyn hugo and song of achilles, i feel like you might rlly enjoy last night at the telegraph club, by malinda lo!!
Just finished The Song Of Achilles yesterday, and it indeed wrecks you! I was an emotional mess for the last 3 chapters. I need to find my own Achilles, god I'm in love with him. Their relationship is something one dreams of ❤
I loved the video Chris! And thanks for doing it spoiler free! Achilles is still on my to do and now because of you I’ll do Seven Husbands as well. House in the Cerulean Sea I have read and loved it as well. Looking forward to your next videos!
I've returned to this video after reading the house in the cerulean sea in a day to say that it is now one of my favorite books of all time. Honestly started reading it as a filler but man it was just so wonderful and whimsical and beautiful I worry I will never read something that will make me feel the same ever again
LOVED this so much. I now have so many books to read so thank you. I could just feel each book coming from you. Super touched and you are so sweet. And Benji too!
Love this video. Really helpful since I've been wanting to read more and watch less tv, but if your into pirates you should watch One Piece. I couldn't help myself from wanting to comment about it lol, but it definitely has a lot of pirate shenanigans.
We have similar tastes! I read Seven Husbands and House in the Cerulean Sea and I loved both of them. Song of Achilles is a book I own but haven't read yet, but Circe was very good. I saw from Benji's channel that you were reading Piranesi! Oh it's such a wonderful little book. I recently read Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune which is his newest book. I didn't think it was anywhere as good as House in the Cerulean Sea. I personally wouldn't recommend it.
TJ Klune is legitimately my favorite author. I highly highly recommend his Green Creek series but everything I’ve read of his (which isn’t all of his books, but around 10 of them), I’ve loved!
I really enjoyed TJ Klune’s new book, Under the Whispering Door. I just finished it and it comes in a close 2nd to Cerelean Sea. It starts a little slow, character development, but the entire second half is amazing. High recommend! Great new channel, I look forward to more.
AHHH I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS !!! i literally just finished "circe" by madeline miller, and this video convinced me to try out song of achilles too :D ALSO, i saw that you're reading mistborn: the final empire on goodreads !! literally one of my ***favorite books ever***, so i really hope you enjoy! brandon sanderson, the author, actually has a huge interconnected universe with his books (kinda like the mcu concept) which is really cool, and he's one of my fav epic fantasy authors to date! good luck with your channel, and i'm really excited to see your next videos :D
Thanks for this nice book video, Chris! I'm curious, do you have a favorite book? The house on the cerulean sea has been on my list for a while, and your review has reminded me of it :)
I so love love LOVE this!!! Finally found a great booktuber! Keep going man, I love your words about books, the way you explain them is seriously magical 🙏🏻✨
I read Circe first and loved it so much, I couldn’t wait to start Song of Achilles, but I couldn’t get past 30 pages, really bummed. The naive insecurity, neediness, hero worship, etc. Patroclus couldn’t grow out of it fast enough to hold my interest, unlike Circle who moved on sooner.
I feel like I'm the only person who didn't enjoy The Song of Achilles. Maybe because I didn't expect it to be all romance, I don't really enjoy romance. I was kind of expecting more war and politics and fighting and history with a little romance going along. But I really enjoy your videos so far and I think it's interesting if you don't always agree. Looking forward to see more of your content (:
Oh God, Song of Achilles wrecked me too. I haven't read The House in the Cerulean Sea, but I am reading Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune and... I don't know how I feel about it. I really don't like YA books, the writing seems really simple and pandering almost, and SO many gay BookTok recommends are YA... I wish there was some better... not YA... gay books, that were still like, upbeat.
great one chris. but next can you explore more on lesser known book but according to me great like Faceless, by Alyssa Sheinmel and The Love That Split The World by Emily Henry.
omg that plant behind u looks so amazing and beautiful. whoever takes care of it must be really talented
Hahaa you're couple goals. I never heard of booktok, only knew planttok. So thank you for introducing me to it. Have fun on UA-cam!
Omg i think so tooo 😁
I know right, it must be a handsome guy who takes care I wonder who
lmaoo
Very much talented haha
i’m still figuring this whole thing out / getting comfortable in front of the camera (lol) but thank you all for checking out my first video :’)
Aww we all are here for u ❤
This video made me want to read more books so you did well :D
you did amazing!! cant wait for more content!
Nahh u did well
to be honest its amazing to see you be uncomfy you are Infront of the camera as weird as that sounds, it shows you're a real and genuine person so thanks for stepping out of your comfort zone! Also im a huge YA reader so im excited to see you're new vids

Yes Chris!!! Bring books back into our lives. Books and plants simply make everyday life more beautiful!!! Love it.❤💚
I’ve never been into reading much, mostly just biopics of scientists lol. But the way you talk about them so excited is so contagious. I think you’re definitely meant to be a booktuber
and my god, the song of achilles literally DESTROYED ME🤧
Great recommendations. I agree with you that The Song of Achilles is a most beautiful book, the writing, the story, the context… it’s all close to perfect.
Omg omggg "The song of Achilles " hits harder 🥺💔 every human should read it ❤
Thanks, Chris, for the good news about Evelyn Hugo being made into a movie, and for not spoiling Song of Achilles.
I'm not really into books but bc of this video I'm considering reading that Song of Achilles one 👀
So happy you made a UA-cam channel!! Specifically a channel about books! Can’t wait for your future uploads! 🥳
Song of Achilles is one of my top five books! And if you loved Cerulean Sea (as did I), I. hope you read The Lives of Puppets, so cute!
I came from Benji’s channel and I love all of your recommendations. The Song of Achilles and The House in the Cerulean Sea are two of my favorites 🩵

Hi Chris!! I too an an avid book lover! So many worlds you can escape to! You and Benji are such great guys!! Glad to have found you both!!
Song of Achilles was one of my favorite books from last year, I definitely agree with your 5 star rating!! I also have 7 husbands of evelyn hugo for my book to read next :) great first video chris!!
you have to do book reviews with your raw reactions! like ones with your opinions on the books WITH spoilers!
When you suddenly jump here after Benji mentioned Chris' channel. LOL! Congratulations!

I loved the video Chris! And thanks for doing it spoiler free! Achilles is still on my to do and now because of you I’ll do Seven Husbands as well. House in the Cerulean Sea I have read and loved it as well.

I've returned to this video after reading the house in the cerulean sea in a day to say that it is now one of my favorite books of all time. Honestly started reading it as a filler but man it was just so wonderful and whimsical and beautiful I worry I will never read something that will make me feel the same ever again
I am trying to get myself to read Song of Achilles, but after tearing up reading the Iliad, I am not sure I would emotionally recover from reading it
It was a beautiful book!
Hey could you recommend me the translation you read? (For Iliad)
the only booktuber i am subscribed to! great first video :-)
LOVED this so much. I now have so many books to read so thank you. I could just feel each book coming from you. Super touched and you are so sweet. And Benji too!

such a nice video!
also, since you said you love pirates - I assume you've watched "our flag means death", right? if you haven't - I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Congratulations on the new channel, Chris!
